IT’S NOVEMBER 1st!
That’s crazy town people.
Well, since it’s the 1st, it’s time for us to “GET PIN-SPIRED”!
As always, I am partnering up with Shay at Mix and Match Family and Mel at The Larson Lingo and hoping that all of you will join in the fun!
This post is back to basics.
a simple post where I am using the below outfit as inspiration and
creating it myself with things that were already in my closet.
The color scheme is the same, I just swapped the scarf color for the top color.
I
really like the idea of wearing a sleeveless shirt with tall boots and a
scarf during this time of the year where it’s chilly in the mornings
but 80 by the afternoon.
It’s a nice balance.
Such a cute outfit, right?
Here is my inspiration:
So, here is my interpretation:

If you’re a scarf girl, then you will want to pay attention to this next paragraph for sure.
If you’re not a scarf girl, you need to become one. 😉
So, basically everybody needs to pay attention!

Concerning the boots, once the morning temperature dropped below 80 degrees, I brought these bad boys out, and they are here to stay.
I know this, because I get sooooo many e-mails about these boots!
As I go back through the October posts, I’m thinking that this has been my favorite month so far on the blog! I hope you enjoy the review and maybe even find something you missed along the way.
I’m just going to pull out some of my favorite parts of my favorite posts to highlight the things that I ADORE!
If you’re new to the blog, this is a great way to get a good picture of how things normally look around here. Links are included at the top of each highlighted post in case you want to hop over and see the full post! 🙂

If you know me in real life, you know that I’m wearing the snot out of THESE particular flats.
I never dreamed I would wear them as much as I do!
The Penny (HERE) is the quintessential cognac riding boot, and it is so well priced!
The Pace boots (HERE) are very similar to my TOMS.
The Helena (HERE)
is sooooo sassy! I’ve been thinking about adding a heeled boot to my
closet, and at this price, I think Helena might be coming to live with
me. 🙂
Here they are up close.

It’s just the right amount of edgy without being too over the top. And the color goes with everything.
Plus, I love the buckle detail and the heel height.

and there is a wide calf version HERE
I really REALLY love this boot, and I think it’s a phenomenal price.
The color is gorgeous, and I love the asymmetrical tapered top. Here is
another picture I found online of the Penny boot.
This is a great pair of boots.

This bootie is totally sassy. And I think I want a sassy bootie.
You know what I mean.

(not many sizes left, TOMS option HERE)
There are several more that I was happy to see on the list.
Like the Jaxen HERE.
It totally favors the Rag and Bone bootie (that is $495) but is actually affordable.
I also introduced Pinterest Told Me To gift tags for Birthdays!
We started at Nordstrom like we always do!
print tee HERE
For size
reference, I am wearing a small in the t-shirt. This t-shirt is crazy soft, I
loved the color, it fit close without being too tight, and it was longer in the
back than it was in the front.
I ADORED this t-shirt.
Similar graphic

scarf HEREARE YOU GUYS
DYING OVER THIS SCARF?
It’s an infinity scarf, and I went crazy over the cute
fringies hanging off of it. It totally styles itself (I didn’t have to mess
with it at all, just wrapped it around my neck twice). It would up the cute
factor of any outfit! It comes in 5 colors, but my favorite was this
taupe.
jeans HERE
I am REALLY loving how these are a lighter wash
than the other
MUST HAVE jeans I already have.
wedges HERE
Yep.
This
scarf is awesome. I love how it’s full without being bulky!
Speaking of
cool…
This next outfit is a little out of the box for me, but I feel like
it is totally current and on trend.
same print tee HERE
(see how
the 3rd picture shows you how it’s longer in the back? love that.)
black
and white jacket HERE
For size reference, I am wearing a large in the
jacket.
If my boobs and rib cage were a bit smaller, I totally could have
taken the medium.
Basically big boobed ladies might want to pass on this
jacket.
All other ladies should totally snatch it up!
wedges HERE
I
was totally surprised by how much I loved the bold black and white striped
jacket.
Other black and white jacket options:
1) herringbone sweater jacket HERE (with faux
leather trim)I think this one is my favorite. I love how it’s styled in
the picture with the grey jeans and the white t, but I think it would look great
dressed down with jeans (especially some of the MUST HAVE jeans or dressed up
with black slacks or a pencil skirt). THIS IS A GREAT JACKET!!!!!!
2)
faux leather sleeve jacquard jacket HERE
3) houndstooth front sweater jacket HERE
I really
love this one too.
4) tweed front sweater jacket HERE
5)
tweed blazer HERE
Tweed? In blazer form? Yes, please.
black shirt HERE
cream shirt HERE
I really liked
this shirt in both colors. Both were a small, but for some reason the black one
was shorter than the cream one. (Make sure you look closely and see how I’m
wearing a black tank under the black one it to give it the look that I wanted.)

LOOK HOW CUTE MY GRAPHIC IS!!!!
via Andrea at Simply Askew Designs |
I headed straight to Nordstrom because of my sister’s advice to to try on the
Vince Camuto dress pants that she swears by. (My sister is DARLING and dresses
so cute, but there’s something you need to know about her. She’s a 00 Petite.
I know. Gag. So, even though she told me I had to try on these pants, I wasn’t
sure that they were going to work on me since I’m not a 00P.)
Well, I’ve got
to give it to her.
These pants are AWESOME. Thank you Conner!
They are a
great material, fit well, and are well-priced for a nice black pant.
I found
a pair of pants that I LOVED, and I have 3 choices for you ladies, all by Vince
Camuto!
a) straight leg pants HERE (these are the ones I’m wearing in the pictures below)
b) ankle pants (come in regular and petite) HERE
c) plus

All 3 of the pants have great reviews!
These flowy blouses are from Pleione (the
maker of the MUST HAVE
blouse),
and I think are perfect for office wear.

These pants were true to size.
green blouse HERE / turquoise blouse HERE (I am wearing
a small in the blouse.)
The
pictures on the Nordstrom website do not do these blouses justice AT
ALL. They are much prettier in person. They are not nearly as sheer as
they appear in the pictures online, but I was wearing a nude color cami
under them in my pictures.
(The online pics have a white color cami, but I
like nude under them much better.)
to the clothes I tried on above, I thought I would also put some more basic
outfit collages together with pieces from Nordstrom.
I’ve used the same
necklace and pair of earrings all of the following outfits, and I found a GREAT
bag that is under $90!!!!!
Here’s a
classic outfit made up of great basic pieces!

and petite)
A pencil skirt is a great basic for the working woman!
This particular one has over 100 5 Star reviews and comes in several
colors!
black MUST HAVE shirt HERE
REMEMBER TO ORDER A SIZE DOWN. MINE IS AN
X-SMALL.
I cannot say enough about this shirt. I have the black and the wine
color, and the black is definitely my favorite. I’ve worn it at least 5 times
already. Shay wore her navy one for the first time on Friday, and she
immediately texted me saying she was going to be getting a 2nd color. I’m
telling you. This shirt really is a MUST HAVE!

I LOVE LOVE
LOVE this top and it has fabulous reviews online, including this one:
longer in back with a standard blouse edge. Drapy but not sheer. Button by the
neckline ensures nothing is seen that you don’t want to be! High quality,
versatile, true to size.
So…I put
this collage together to show how this top could be styled with both jeans and
dress pants.
Again, I used the same jewelry and the same FAB purse!
But
this time I switched out a pair of heels for the SUPER COOL leather
booties!

I hope this post
was helpful to all of you ladies with an office job. Please leave me some
feedback to let me know if I highlighted the types of things you are interested
in. These types of posts take quite a bit of time to do, and I want to make
sure that I am giving you information you need and types of clothing that you
are interested in!
To pull off this look successfully, the brown color (most often cognac) is always found in the
accessories. And in the above collage, it’s ALWAYS brown boots.
I used to
think that black boots were a necessity in every woman’s closet, but I no
longer think that.
If you are only going to have 1 pair of boots in your
closet,
I firmly believe that they need to be brown.
I think brown
boots are the most important color boot to have in your closet.
I’ve talked about them
before, but here are my favorite brown boots of the moment.

E-mails about the MUST
HAVE jeans.
Sheaff. ER!!!! (I feel as if you’re one of my
girlfriends, so I can punctuate your name like that!) I started reading your
blog about two months ago, and boy am I ever hooked! I have made several
purchases based on your recommendations already, but today I got my first MUST
HAVE in the mail. The Vigoss Jeans–my first ever pair and my first ever
Nordstrom purchase. We live out in the boonies and probably 3 hours away from a
Nordstrom. But oh, the wondrous doors you’ve opened for me. I’m in love with the
jeans. They are so perfectly distressed and fit so perfectly. I can’t wait to
wear these babies in public! I am buying so many more pairs of these and will be
shopping at Nordie’s (I pretend I’m old friends with them, too) again soon.
Thank you so much for PTMT–I am a huge fan and a “must-have” believer!!
🙂
Sincerely,
Lindsay Tippett
This is the thank you note you said I’d owe you
when I purchased the Vigoss Destroyed Skinny Jeans 🙂 I really liked the look of the jeans on
you and Shay, but I had not ordered them yet. Read this post and you said, “But
I’m telling you, you need to TRY THESE JEANS. Do it. Do it now.” So I did! I
just received my shipment and tried them on.
great!
I’m wearing the clean cuffed version. They are my favorite!
I wish I was
kidding when I say I probably wear the 3x per week.
For size reference, even
though I wear a 27 in other Vigoss jeans, I wear a 28 in these, and some other
readers have said the same.

e-mails about the Penny boots.
I’ve never
commented before but read every day!! I returned some boots to Nordie’s today
that I just didn’t love and decided to look for some new boots. I told the girl
I have freaky HUGE calves for my small feet and she told me she had the perfect
boot just when I mentioned I wanted to try on the Penny, which is exactly the
one she had in mind!
The zipper slipped right up over my jeans (!!) like a
dream come true – literally!! I’ve been trying to find great leather boots for
years and NOTHING ever fits!
The leather is sooo soft and comfy and they look
wonderful! Needless to say, they came home with me! I might even sleep in them
tonight! They’re also coming with me to Europe this winter – so
excited!!
Thank you thank you!!!!!

booties.
Hi Sheaffer,
I am
sure by now you are receiving tons of e-mails on all your great suggestions, but
i had to add another. I am not a shopper. Don’t misunderstand,
i love to shop, when i have the time and resources. With two young little ones
and a full time job, shopping just isn’t something i have a lot of time for.
Your blog is amazing for moms like me.
You make life easy!
My most recent purchase was the Toms
wedge.
I do not spend that amount of money on
shoes, normally. Boy has my thought process changed. You get what you pay for in
a shoe. I LOVE them. We took a trip to NYC on
Saturday. I wore the wedges simply based off wearing them one time before and
everyone elses reviews of how comfortable they are. They were amazing! I walked
the city from 10:30 am until 7 pm when we boarded the bus home. (and i was
pushing an umbrella stroller with my 5 year old the entire
day)
Another great review by you.
I am no
longer scared to buy online.
Thanks again!!
to make sure you get these socks. Really, you need to get them if you have any
booties that hit you low on the ankles.
They are the socks I wear

booties.
They
obviously aren’t for warmth, but they are necessary.

tried the cords on yourself, but I’m telling you to do it. Do it now. They are
really stretchy and very flattering. And you were right, they look good with
flats, but they look just as great tucked into tall boots. I got the dark khaki
color, and as soon as I got them and tried them on I hopped online to get the
powder blue.

legging.
There’s nothing worse than a legging that is partially see-through,
that bags in the knees after a couple of hours of wear, or that doesn’t wash
well.
So, if you are ready to rock a legging, here’s what you need to do
first:
Invest in a good pair of
leggings.
(And by invest…I mean spend around $40 instead of around
$20. We’re not talking about having to drop a lot of cash, so don’t
skimp.)
Here are some of my favorite options out there right
now:

size, they hold up well wash after wash, and they keep their shape very well

I’m ordering these. I really like how high the

with the “slimming factor” and be more comfortable.

Also, I should add that I tried on the above

actually supposed to be shorter (like it is on the model), but I liked how long
the large was on me!

Awareness month, I wanted to have my friend Tracy over to the blog today to tell
you a little about her story. I
took this picture of Tracy at her youngest daughters 6th birthday party a couple
of years ago, which was 4 years into
her battle.
She is an incredible
friend, a wonderful wife, and an amazing
mom.
AND she is a BREAST CANCER
WARRIOR.
I’m so proud to be her
friend.
Well,
pull.

aren’t worried about buttons pulling.
totally dig that. *
shirt is not straight across, it curves. This curve and the little cut-outs on
the side make it SO MUCH more flattering. *
It would
be GREAT on it’s own, with a scarf, or a simple necklace.
It could be paired
with jeans, a pencil skirt, suit pants, colored jeans, whatever.
It would be
FABULOUS layered under a cardigan or blazer.
Your closet needs this
shirt.
YOU need this
shirt
GAP that I bought a couple of years ago, but it doesn’t measure up to this. I
rarely put the GAP shirt on (even though there are SO MANY Pinterest outfits
that make me want to wear a great white shirt) because I am always afraid of the
buttons pulling (because there is not enough stretch in it). Well, good-bye to
pulling buttons!
Now I will have a white shirt for all of those Pinterest
outfits!
For size reference, I’m wearing a
small.
(After a reader sent me an e-mail, I actually ended up changing my order and getting a medium! I wanted it a bit more roomy for leggings! Thanks for the tip Kim!)
It also comes in grey!
am LOVING it in grey!
And
correct me if I’m wrong, but I NEVER would have given the white shirt a second
look online.
Thanks heavens I found it in the store and put it in on because
I never would have dreamed of ordering it otherwise.
And listen, I don’t have a crystal ball, and Nordstrom
won’t tell me how many they have in stock, but I’m thinking that this is one of
those items that could sell out quickly.
Just sayin’.
the shirts will be longer than they are on the models. I’m guessing the models
are both very tall but are still wearing small shirts.
(I
too am wearing a small, and you can see how the shirt is quite a bit longer on
me. And you can kind of see on the side view of me in the first collage how the
shirt totally covers my bottom.)
And just in case you think you don’t
need a white oxford,
I would like to respectfully beg to differ.
Please
see below collage.
(The only picture I could find the original source for was
the lady with short blond hair and the leopard belt HERE.)
Nope. You can’t
argue with the collage.
All of the women in the above collage look SO put
together and SO chic!
And there outfits are insanely simple!
The white
oxford is a power house that adds a classic touch to pretty much any outfit you
put it with!

Just wanted to send a huge THANK YOU for your ideas! I love fashion, but hate shopping. I've passed this trait on to my 14 yo daughter who is 6 ft tall and still growing. That puts her pretty much out of most juniors dept stuff since sleeve length is an issue. Your blog has been a saving grace for us! She has skinny jeans and leggings, but now she has great ideas of what to wear with them so they feel special and fashionable. And the BEST part is that the ideas didn't come from MOM. lol! She has the Penny boots (that came in a size 11, thankyouverymuch), the must have shirts in multiple colors and a pretty decent collection of scarves. You've been a godsend to us…we so enjoy your blog. Keep up the great work!

So many fun things in October! Seriously can't believe it's November. You look so cute in the pinspired look. I would have never thought to wear sleeveless with boots. I'm most excited to go and pick up the fringe scarf and white top this month! Hope you like the medium…it was the perfect length for me and I can't wait to wear it!

So my 20th college reunion was coming up and I needed a little oomph to my wardrobe so I went looking for a new pair of boots. I found some I really liked and as I was trying them on I looked at the name and it seemed to ring a bell. I sat there in the shoe department and looked up your blog and saw that I had picked out the Penny boot! Now I have what the sweet young guy at the ski shop called "athletic calves"- bless him- but I think I bought the regular ones. I will have to check on that. As an aside, I found them at Belk on sale which was the regular price at Nordstrom! I also got two fringe scarves and wore a cranberry one with the grey and black striped loft dress along with TAN lucchese cowboy boots. I thought I looked so sassy that I took a "Sheaffer style" selfie but ended up deleting it lest it get into the wrong hands!

I'm also madly in love with the scarf. I'm thinking it definitely has "must have" potential. Seriously.

I went to Nordstrom today and bought the must-have white shirt, your favorite scarf ever in oxblood, and the Penny boots! I thought I would need the wide-calf version, but the regular ones fit great, even with my boot cut jeans. 🙂 I'm sooo excited. Now if it would just drop below 85 degrees in Austin! In the meantime, I may try to copy your Pinspired outfit. Thanks for all the awesome recommendations, Sheaffer! I'm another one who likes to look cute but hates to shop. Til I found your blog, that is.
