It’s February 2nd, and it’s time for us to Get Pin-spired!
My blue gingham shirt and one of my military jackets.
I’m just going to OWN the fact that I know I am constantly taking pictures in a military jacket.
And the reason for that is simple: I’m constantly in a military jacket. 🙂
Here’s a pic of me in the jacket and my gingham shirt with my little guy.
This boy has my whole heart.
He also has eyelashes that I think must have been meant for me.
#ipromisehe’snotwearingmascara
Yep, I would say WITHOUT A DOUBT that the item in my closet that is most reached for (besides a pair of jeans) is one of my military jackets. Over the last 6 or so years I’ve collected 3 of them.
And here’s the deal. I wear all 3 of them.
They are all slightly different shades of green, and they all have slightly different cuts.
And no…I’m not crazy…I prefer the word “practical”…and a military jacket is a practical edition to your closet. Even if it’s your 2nd or 3rd one.
#notcrazy,practical
I have two that are short (one has a little peplum hem), and I have one that’s longer.
And I wear them all.
So here’s the outfit that pin-spired me today!

So, how did I do?
I wore blue gingham instead of black, because that’s what I had, but I liked it just as much.
And I wore non-distressed jeans because I CAN’T GET ENOUGH of my new MUST HAVE jeans.
SHOP THE LOOK HERE BY CLICKING ON THE ITEMS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN!
And how fun is THIS shirt! Pink gingham could really help spring up your outfit!
I wear my blue gingham soooo much, adding a pink gingham to my closet isn’t a bad idea.
Nope, not a bad idea at all.
I bet it would be so cute with white jeans!
And look at THIS grey jacket!
I love grey and pink together, and this would be so cute with the shirt above for a different spin on the look!
So my jacket that I’m wearing in my look above is from Caslon and it’s almost 2 years old now.
But lucky y’all! Caslon has a 2015 version! And it looks awesome!
AND it comes in green, grey, and camo.
Click HERE for the new Caslon military jackets (they come in regular and petite)!
These military jackets are year round jackets. You can wear them in fall and winter with a long sleeve shirt and a scarf. And you can wear them in the spring with short sleeve tees and even tanks under them! To be honest, I carry mine around a lot even in the summer because I like to throw it on in movies and restaurants.
And great news! All of the below jackets can be found in plus size HERE!
I had put the above collage in a post a couple of weeks ago after a reader questioned me about the new Caslon jackets, and last week I finally got around to getting to Nordstrom to try the new ones on!
The left and the right ones can be found HERE.
The middle khaki one can be found HERE (and it also comes in navy, olive, and grey).
They are both Caslon, but notice that the middle one doesn’t have zippers up top.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the left and right jackets.
I’m wearing a medium in the khaki jacket.
And just FYI, I’m now officially HIGHLY RECOMMENDING the grey slip on sneakers.
Yes, they were very stiff the first day I put them on…..but now I’ve worn them on 3 separate days, and now I can say they are SUPER comfy. You just have to give them a chance!

*Before I show you all of your options, let’s take a second to recognize that most military jackets aren’t cheap. But girls, your cost per wear is going to be negligible.*
This one was super soft, and I really liked the gathered detail across the back. Very flattering!
You can also find this exact jacket in plus-size HERE.

If you’re interested in one of these short military jackets, just click on it!
As I mentioned before, I also have a long military jacket, and I love that one too! Sometimes I just want to wear a longer jacket!
Here are a couple of pictures of me in my longer jacket that never made it to the blog.
(exact shirt from LOFT and sold out, exact jacket sold out) / $8 stud earrings HERE
And another striped shirt and long military jacket look!
All exact pieces sold out.
If you are interested in some long jacket options, I’ve got several great ones for you right here:
And don’t forget all of the awesome plus-size options!
And this is random, but if you click HERE there are grey and green Kendra Scott items that are ON SALE at Nordstrom! 🙂
AND…UNTIL 10:00 am EST Monday Morning, there is a FLASH SALE!
50% OFF YOUR ENTIRE FULL PRICE PURCHASE (excluding Lou and Grey items).
WOW!
Here are two things I tried on last week:
Thanks for reading my tribute to the military jacket.
REMEMBER #practical,notcrazy 🙂
Just for fun, why don’t you leave a comment saying one of two things:
1) How many military jackets you have.
2) What the most worn item in your closet is!
And don’t forget to link up!!!!

Sheaffer 🙂

I have a military jacket on my wish list for my bday this month. I love the rose colored one at Nordstrom but I am not sure if I should get the small or medium. You have both on so I am wondering how it fits. Thanks for the help!! Susan
Mix and Match Mama says
Listen, the military jacket is such a closet staple! Every girl must have one (or five). Just sayin'…
Stacy P. says
Most worn item….my black buffalo checked shirt! I think I've worn it 3 out of 7 days. ugh. 🙂 and I do have a military jacket–it's camo print from the J Crew outlet. I wear that thing all the time! But after seeing your post, I think I'll need to add a gray military jacket (and maybe one of the scarfs!) to my spring wardrobe!
And my son also has ridiculous eyelashes. What is up with the boys getting the great lashes????
Megan says
I would say that right now I have been wearing the mess out of Frye boots and denim shirts…I love that I can throw a denim shirt on over a cute printed tee! I even wear denim shirts in the summer with a pair of shorts! and I have 2 military jackets! Love them! 😉
Erika Slaughter says
I have three military jackets. They're all different styles and lengths. I can totally justify the three because they're so different. 🙂
Darcey says
What size did you get the jeans in?
Sheaffer says
Hi Darcey! My jeans are 4s. I did not size down!

Is the new Caslon as dark looking as it is on Nordstrom's site? Also if you had to choose between the 2 new Caslon jackets; which would you choose?
Sheaffer says
Hi there! It's very olive, but I would say to look at the picture of me in the jacket and that's a more true representation of the color. And I would choose the jacket with the zippers up top. I thought it fit me better. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Katelyn Sloan says
You look so dang cute in every military jacket!!
Shawnee says

First, you are so sweet to find the time to comment on my blog. I have no idea how you do it all. I would LOVE for you to do a "day in the life" type of post because I think I need your tips for time management and secrets for where you get your energy. I also own three olive green jackets (military-esque) so I completely support the #practicalnotcrazy movement! I haven't paired any of mine with stripes yet, and THAT is crazy so I will get on that ASAP!

YOU ARE the reason I own a military jacket! I saw them on Pinterest and thought they wouldn't be that versatile but you helped dispel that myth! 🙂 pippa

I really want a grey military jacket!! I love the one you highlighted here but $78 seems a little steep. Maybe it will go on sale soon? I've never owned a military jacket, only a vest. I need one!

I just bought my 2nd military style jacket from Aritzia – do you have one near you? It's a Canadian store that is starting to expand into the US. I probably wear my Hunter rain boots the most, because it rains a lot here. But I have to say, I really love them!
Chic Coastal Living says
Great little jacket that's perfect for everyday! I would even leave it in my car in case I go out to a casual dinner or movie and need a something to keep me warm. I can see why you love yours so much!
Maria says
I only have one military jacket but I LOVE it! My most worn item lately is my Sam Edelman Penny boots. They look great with everything and they are so comfy. Definitely a winter must have. I have also been living in my HUE leggings lately.
Brooke @ A Retherford Realization says
So this is completely unrelated, but I know how much you love your 'blardigan,' (to be fair, I'm wearing mine as I type this), and this weekend I was at my cousins wedding in Wisconsin (of all places!) and the Groom's best man is the nephew of the owner of Barefoot Dreams! I practically flipped out when I found out this information and struck up a conversation with him out of the blue and I start with, "Your aunt created the blardigan!". He was lost, but I caught him up with you and your blog and your terms don't worry. The bride and groom were, without saying, completely spoiled with Barefoot Dreams products and I was completely jealous, as you can imagine. I'm still trying to comprehend all this info. What a small world!
Sheaffer says
Brooke! You met blardigan royalty!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the fun story!

Sheaffer, thank you for including Plus size options whenever they are available in all of the items you recommend. I have two military jackets and have stored two that you highlighted on my Nordstrom wish list! Love your blog..and I think you are awesome! 🙂
Katie C says
Thank you SO MUCH for letting us know when there is a plus size option! Love your blog and your ideas for assembling outfits. I've gotten compliments on my blanket scarf, mixing plaid with leopard, and while not exactly your suggestion, mixing two types of plaid. I'll continue to look for some of your items in plus, and I'm *this close* to getting the snake skin sneakers! I'm an 8.5W and since they only come in M width, I'm torn between an 8.5 and a 9.
Ruth says
Hey Sheaffer! I picked up the Caslon Field Jacket from Nordstrom today and the Zella Live In leggings this past Saturday. Thanks for two more great finds!

Okay… for months I have bought and returned no fewer than 5 different military jackets never really finding the one that works for me! I knew I needed one because PTMT but was about to give up! On a whim, I ordered the Old Navy one you featured when you did your ON post last week and it arrived! I LOVE IT! It's perfect and because it was on sale it was $24! Win, Win, Win! Wearing it right now with adorable black and white gingham flannel shirt, jeans and black flats! Super cute! Thank you!!!
