SPRING DENIM | The 2 Pairs You Need

Hello, HELLO!!!  Ladies, I’m thrilled that it’s Friday and I’m super pumped about today’s post.

After -2 degree temperatures last week in Texas, we had a glimpse of Spring this week!  It got up to almost 80 on Wednesday, and it was glorious.  I even wore shorts when we took the dogs on a walk.  Texas weather is WILD, y’all.

Today’s post is chock full of amazing pieces that will help all of us transition seamlessly into Spring.  I’ve got two great pairs of denim, a military jacket, and two pairs of shoes that are all perfect to help us ease in to warmer temperatures and great spring style.

DENIM STYLE | GIRLFRIEND JEANS

We’re going to kick today’s post off with a great pair of girlfriend jeans.

If you’re a regular follower over here, you know I initially found these jeans several weeks ago, but there was limited stock and they sold out very quickly.  I felt terrible that many of you missed out, but I’m delighted to tell you today that THEY ARE BACK BABY!

These girlfriend jeans are super stretchy, soft as can be, crazy comfy, and I love the new vibe for those of you that want to add a non-skinny jean option to your closet.

My closet is full of skinny jeans and boot cut jeans, so I went on a quest to add another style to my rotation.  Over the last month I tried on several pairs of girlfriend, boyfriend, and mom jeans from several different brands.

OMG.

Y’all.

There is NO DOUBT that Wit and Wisdom is my brand.  Let’s be honest, I’ve low key known this for awhile, BUT NOW IT’S BEEN OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED. To be honest, I feel like I looked ridiculous in the other brands and styles that I tried, and I was so happy to slip back into my jeans with all the stretch and the Ab Solution technology.  I mean, life is too short to wear jeans without stretch in them.

Anyway, I’m happy to have these new now!  I’m wearing a 4 here (which is my regular size), but I do wonder if I should size down. I think I could take the 2, but I know they are supposed to be a slouchy and relaxed look, so I’m just going to keep the 4. Now that we’ve given plenty of attention to the jeans, let’s move on to the jacket.

I think a military jacket is an essential piece to have in your closet, and I own several.  Every year I try to find a great one for y’all, and this is definitely a great option.  It’s soft and comfy with just a bit of stretch.  It hits below the hips so it covers a bit of the booty, the olive green acts as a neutral, and you can cinch in the waist to give yourself some shape.  Oh, and it has a stand up collar!  For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the jacket.

How fun is this bag!

It’s a slouchy faux leather hobo, and I love the relaxed feel.  The color is a really light cognac that is perfect for Spring and Summer, and I think it’s fun that its a different silhouette than any other bag I own.

And the bandana tied to the handle adds a whole lot of style for just a little bit of money.

Let’s turn our attention to the shoes.

These neutral mules are what I consider to be a perfect transition shoe.  The back is open (but the toes are covered), and the suede materials works well for this time of year.

This loafer style mule has a pointy toe and beautiful chain detail and can easily be dressed up or down.  I love them styled casually here with my girlfriend jeans, but they are definitely nice enough to wear with slacks to the office as well.  True to size for me.

I’m wearing the tan suede, but they also come in a leopard pattern as well as a bone leather and a black leather.  I love them and think they are very chic.

This is an outfit that you can wear throughout the spring, and it’s made up of pieces that can all be mixed and matched several different ways.

Before we move on to some skinny jeans, let’s touch quickly on a couple of tips I have for how to style girlfriend jeans.

Since they are a bit more relaxed, I recommend creating a waist somehow.  I created the waist in this outfit by doing a front tuck with a tee.  You could also pair a fitted top with them to create a flattering look as well.

And since they aren’t tight around the ankles, I think it looks best to wear a slender shoe, sandal, or a wedge with them.  A chunky sneaker wouldn’t be as flattering, but this pointy toe mule is perfect.

DENIM STYLE | SKINNY JEANS

As much as I love and adore the girlfriend jeans above, I want you to know that this mama is still going to be rocking skinny jeans as well.  I don’t care what the girls on Tik Tok are saying, I feel good in skinny jeans, so no little Tik Tokkers can convince me that they’re not cool.  Ha!

I am definitely happy to have some different options, but I can’t quit the skinny jeans, and neither should you if you feel great in them.

These skinny jeans are stretchy, soft, and crazy comfy.  They are the perfect length, showing off just a little bit of ankle with sandals, sneakers, and wedges.  The frayed him is just my style and there is a tiny bit of distressing and fading.

They suck you in while somehow still magically allowing you to breathe.  I LOVE THEM.  For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4.  And remember, you can look for a similar style Wit and Wisdom pair in plus size HERE.

The striped sweater is lightweight and perfect for Spring.  I really like that it’s a looser fit, and it’s now ON SALE for just under $30!  For size reference, I’m wearing a small and it’s still got some room, so I would recommend sizing down 1 from your regular size.

The cross body tote is spacious, versatile, and a really great basic.  I chose the classic cognac, but it also comes in solid black and a black with cognac straps.  My favorite way to carry it is with the attached cross body straps, but it has handles as well.  It’s an investment at around $180, but it’s very well made and a classic style that will last you years and years.

And you guessed it, I infused some color and fun into the outfit by tying a bandana on it.

Fashion sneakers are all the rage right now, and Dolce Vita makes a great sneaker.  There are several patterns to choose from on the same link, and you might remember that I already have a white leather pair with leopard and pink accents from the same maker.

This camo design is a sassy neutral.

And the glitter backs really kick things up a notch.  Or 10.

They give a little bit of height with the platform sole, and they are padded for comfort.  True to size for me.

And seriously, how cute is the frayed hem on these jeans.

I’ve found that skinny jeans are especially great when wearing blousy or boxy tops (to help balance out proportions).   In the outfit with the girlfriend jeans, I tucked my shirt in to create a waist.  However, with these skinny jeans, I prefer to have a blousier top without any tucking.  If I would have worn this sweater with the girlfriend jeans, the overall look would have been too sloppy, but it’s perfect with the skinny jeans.

And the slim look of the jeans (with the tight ankle) can totally handle the chunkier sneaker.  It creates a nice balance.
