A LITTLE BACK STORY
Back in April, I did my first post with Walmart. Looking back, it’s funny to me how I was so hesitant to accept that first post for 2 main reasons (reasons that were good reasons at the time):
1) I didn’t know anything about the clothes from Walmart back then, and I assumed (you know what they say about assuming) they wouldn’t fit my style.
2) I didn’t know how Walmart posts would be received by y’all.
So, I hopped online to check out their clothes. And when I did, I was very surprised with both the selection and the style. (The cute factor was WAY BETTER than I had anticipated.) Over the next 2 days I also saw a handful of bloggers that I loved doing Walmart posts, and I was flabbergasted at how darling their outfits were. This was clearly a new Walmart, and my first reservation started to fade.
I signed on for the campaign, placed a huge order, and anxiously waited for the boxes to arrive. And even though I really liked the clothes I had found, I was still nervous, wondering if you ladies would be open to this retailer. I just wanted to dip my toe in and see how that first post went.
Today’s post is my now my 7th post with Walmart, so I’m clearly singing a different tune. The We Dress America Summer series has been a lot of fun for me, and I have several Walmart pieces that I’ve found during these posts that are now in constant rotation in my wardrobe. I’ve definitely found some favorites over the last several months, and we’ll talk about those items at the end of today’s post.
And here’s the best thing…not only have I been pleasantly surprised with the clothing selection time and time again, but I’ve also been overwhelmed with the positive response from y’all! Like me, many of you were initially pretty hesitant to give Walmart a chance (the first post I did fell on April 1st and more than one reader thought it was an April Fool’s joke! ha!), but I’m now pleased to report that so many readers have jumped on the Walmart train with me. Y’all are definitely freaks about the under $14 denim shorts just like me! And I’ve received countless e-mails from y’all professing your love for certain favorites that you’ve purchased from the posts, which of course thrills me to no end.
For today’s post, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone a bit, and I’m highlighting a pair of side striped jeans. Embellished jeans are everywhere these days, and these babies are definitely on trend. I’m styling them 2 ways today and am excited to hear your thoughts.
SIDE STRIPED JEANS
OUTFIT #1: DENIM ON DENIM
Side striped jeans are a bit of a departure from my regular style, but I decided to grab this pair, and I’m so glad I did! I think they are a ton of fun, and I like pushing myself in the style department from time to time.

And since I was already pushing myself with the jeans, I decided to double down and really go for it with this first look. So I paired the jeans with a denim jacket. That’s right, I really went for it with denim on denim.
white tee / colorful earring option / similar medium wash denim jacket / jeans /multicolor bracelet option / sneakers
Let’s start with the jeans. The overall fit is great with a nice mid-rise and a perfect ankle length. They have a good amount of stretch and a slim fit, without being too skinny throughout the legs (for those of you that don’t love tight jeans). They are a great quality denim and are true to size for me (I’m wearing a 4). I would suggest sizing down if between sizes.
These jeans are an easy and affordable way to try out this trend without having to shell out a ton of money! I mean, I can take a fashion risk for $26!
There’s also this same stripe in white denim and a rainbow striped option as well.
My general rule for pairing denim with denim is just to make sure that the washes are different. In the past, I’ve gone with a light wash on top with a darker wash on the bottom, but I switched it up this time.

I of course fully realize that the denim on denim look isn’t for everybody, and I also realize that the side striped jeans might be out of many of your comfort zones. But fashion is supposed to be fun, and I had fun with this outfit!

OUTFIT #2: STRIPED DENIM AND A CLASSIC WHITE TEE
If you aren’t wanting to try to rock the denim on denim look, the jeans are super cute just paired with a regular ol’ tee. But let’s talk about this regular ol’ tee.
white tee / jeans /similar black bag / black slide sandals
These tees are FANTASTIC, and they are one of my favorite items I’ve found that I mentioned at the beginning of today’s post. I have tried similar tees from several different retailers over the years, and these are my favorite. HANDS DOWN. They are a clear winner.
They are thicker than the others (I don’t need a cami with this white one), they hold up better in the wash, and they continue to look great wear after wear.
AND GET THIS. They are ONLY $8.
At this time, I only have the Arctic White and the Black Soot (which is really a dark grey), but only because I haven’t been able to snag the other colors in my size (I feel like they are always going in and out of stock). For size reference, I wear a medium, which is true to size for me in tees like this. It’s a relaxed fit, which I like. If you prefer a more fitted look, stick with your regular size.
And for reasons I don’t understand, the white tee is ONLY $3 right now. What the heck? I ordered 2 more yesterday. Because THREE DOLLARS. And because why not. And because you can never have enough white tees that you love.
One of my friends (Shout Out, Amy!) texted me about a month ago saying that her mom was in need of a good white t-shirt…this is the one I recommended.
Another look at the jeans!
And last, but certainly not least, these black slide sandals are awesome. I LOVE the wide crossing straps, and they are true to size. Such an easy little sandal to just throw on.
I really liked the simplicity of the entire look, but the side stripe sure did add a cool factor.
The jewelry is all good. I think it’s difficult to shop for Walmart jewelry online, but I really encourage you to stop by the jewelry section next time you are in your local Walmart. Almost all of the choices are under $10.
And many accessory choices are under $8, some even under $5!

FAVORITES REVIEW
I mentioned at the beginning of today’s post that some favorites have emerged for me over the last several months, so I wanted to share what those are.
Here are my absolute faves, in no particular order.
If you’re a regular reader, maybe you remember the first post I did with Walmart way back at the beginning of April. I highlighted a striped sweater (in 2 different colorways) that is still one of my Top 3 Walmart purchases to date (the other 2 being the tee and the shorts). My favorite way to wear it is with denim shorts and either sandals or Converse.
I just love a lightweight sweater with a relaxed fit. This one has a really cute split high low hem, but it’s the extra color stripes at the bottom of each sleeve that really take it to the next level for me. The additional sunshine yellow and hot pink stripes are definitely a designer touch, but they don’t demand a designer price tag. The stripes are also smaller on the sleeves and the back, which also is a nice design element
The sweater (in both colorways), both pairs of jeans, and the camo pieces are still available!

Are you dying? Because I’m dying.
These obviously aren’t something that I reach for every day, or even every week, but I do love them.
Colorful rope in complimentary colors line the body of the wedges, the toe straps are a brushed gold, and the ankle ties are a funky little polka dot. These shoes are show stoppers.
And here’s the best news…they are comfy! True to size.

These frayed hem denim shorts are in my TOP 3 favorites for sure. And as I mentioned previously, lots of readers love them too! They’ve got a bit of stretch, the fit is cute and comfy, and they ring in at just $13.92! And great news, popular sizes were sold out, but I’ve started seeing them pop in and out of stock, so check for your size again.
The frayed hem is done really well (and has held up perfectly in the wash), and they look much more expensive than they are.
I sized up to a 6 in the “pebble” and in the white, and I like the bit of extra room the size up gives because I don’t like my denim shorts too tight! If you don’t want them to have a super relaxed fit, you can definitely stick with your regular size. (My regular 4s did fit, I just loved the super relaxed fit of the 6s. Maybe that’s because of all of the dip eating we do at the ranch. Ha!)

These white denim shorts are FABULOUS too. They’ve got a bit of stretch, the fit is cute and comfy, and they ring in at just $13.92! They aren’t see thru, and I love the frayed hem. I sized up to a 6 in these, and I like the bit of extra room the size up gives. I don’t like my denim shorts too tight!

I’m a Nordstrom girl thru and thru and totally gave you the side eye when you talked about Walmart the first time. But when I was in store one day grocery shopping, I strolled by the clothes to see what all the hype was about. I picked up the tee and the white denim shorts, and I have to say, you were right. They were two of my favorite pieces this summer and they were both under $15. I might have to give these striped jeans a try!
Sheaffer says
Hey, Jennifer! I’m sure a lot of people were giving me the side eye!!! Haha! So glad you gave some pieces a shot, and so happy you love them! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lauren Meyers says
I got the striped sweater from the very first post and it’s in heavy rotation in my wardrobe too. Are the tees really that good? Are they in stores?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Lauren! YESSSS to the striped sweater. I love it so so much! And the tees REALLY ARE that good! I haven’t seen the tees in my local Walmart, but they might be in others? The denim cut offs were in my store, but everything else I’ve featured I’ve ordered online. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Brooke says
I LOVE those t shirts, too! They are awesome!
Beth says
I’m so disappointed that the jeans are already sold out in my size. They are so cute!
Erika Slaughter says
You found another set of gems…the jeans are FUN and I’m loving all the jewelry in this post!
Monica says
Hi! I was THRILLED with your first Walmart post and continue to love them! I’m a big Walmart shopper – honestly, when I pay a lot of money for things that don’t last, it makes me sad. Walmart is right on the money and their clothing seems to last much longer and those $3 white tee shirts don’t get holes in them like other’s I’ve paid way, way, way more for!
Another thing I love is that I can pick up a few trendy things and use them for a season or two and them pass on. Keep up the Walmart posts! And Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the great feedback, Monica! The tees are seriously amazing, and I’m glad you’ve found other things too! xoxo
Shay Shull says
That first outfit could and should be your daily “uniform” this fall. It’s perfection from head to toe to wrist 😉 .
Erin says
I stopped over and grabbed some $3. Tees – all the colors were on clearance
I also saw a sweatshirt from same brand for $10.88 that looks generic to the prev post of the Aerie sweatshirt you recommended.
May go back and try one if those also
Elena says
Love all the looks and terrific, affordable prices….. Now why can’t we buy these products in Canada at Walmart? Its such a shame.
Jeni says
Those jeans are ADORABLE. Pretty sure I need them.
Susan says
Sheaffer I love the jeans! And the tees are amazing. I have a few of them. Can you tell me if your colorful earrings are an amazon find? I love the Walmart and the Amazon post. And the Nordstrom and I guess all that you do! Thanks!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Susan! They were actually a Walmart find, but they are sold out. 🙁 So sorry! And thank you for the kind words. xoxo, Sheaffer
Christine Morgan says
I got the white denim shorts and live them!
Kim says
I bought the striped t shirt in both red and white and navy and white and LOVE them—just had one on yesterday. I also bought the white denim shorts and they are awesome.
Maryanne says
I have a bunch of those t-shirts and they are perfect! I like to size up and tie a knot in the bottom. They are long enough for this long-torso girl (so many shirts are just too short!) and the cut is very flattering. I just grabbed a gray one this morning for 3 bucks (!!) while grocery shopping. Their t-shirt dresses this summer have been winners, too!
Kari says
Bought the striped sweater in the grey and I love it. So cute with jeans and also work appropriate with grey work pants.
Melissa says
I love the posts, and would love to buy, but Walmart has a bad habit of always being sold out. Admittedly, always is a strong word, but in this post, I wanted the jeans, sandals, white t, and shorts. All sold out, except for the t, which cannot be shipped. It’s discouraging. I love your blog, and want to support it.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Melissa! I’m so sorry all of your things were gone in your size! 🙁 I try my very best to feature things that seem to be well stocked, but I have no way of knowing if they actually are. I know it’s so disappointing when you try to get something, only to find out it’s not available. Thanks for the kindly worded feedback! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Monica Seeley says
Earlier this summer, you got me looking at Walmart’s totes! $18 got me a cute canvas tote— a few weeks later I saw a very similar tote at Anthropologie for $68. I also got lots of compliments on my little straw bag—also $18 at Walmart. Thanks, Shaeffer!
Andrea says
i am loving your Walmart posts! Please keep them coming. I picked up the striped sweater and the camo bag from your earlier post and have loved them both. The tote fits so much and has become my airline travel bag. It fits perfectly under the seat in front and I get so many compliments on it! The sweater goes great with the frayed white shorts! We trust you and know you wouldn’t steer us wrong! 🙂
Sheaffer says
I’m about to sign next week for 3 more I think! I’m having so much fun doing them!
Nicole says
Are the white tees really no see-thru? I really don’t like to wear camis under my t-shirts, so….
And I think those white frayed hem shorts will be coming to me very soon 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi, Nicole! I do not wear a cami under this white tee, and I do under my white Madewell tee! I also do under my Caslon tee. Hope this helps! xoxo
