The Bachelor Episode 5: SHAME ON YOU Hwahan

Sorry I missed last week, although I must say it was a nice little break.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that part of me just wishes Hwahan would call it quits and just head over to Dancing With The Stars already.

This week they are in Vietnam.
And they are ROCKIN colored shorts and scarves.  And I dig it.

Alli starts talking about their amazing surrounding, and I’m seriously left wondering who Alli is.
This is Alli.
Seriously.  No idea.

1st 1:1.
Mama.
Date card says: “Are we the right fit?”
Mama says she likes him so much that it makes her palms hurt.
Huh?
I love how relaxed she is and how she just throws on a pair of colored cut off shorts and tank top.
It’s my summer uniform.
But when she was walking up to find JP, and her tank was tied to the side,
I suddenly remembered these…..
Please tell me you remember these too.
God Bless the 80s.

They hop in a petty cab and ol’ Hwahan takes her on a ride.
I would feel like I was in a stroller, but I think I would be okay with that.

They go through the streets, she gets custom fit for dress, and they buy things for their kids.

When she walks up in her dress he is all like “Dayum!”
It’s very sweet.
He gives her a rose at diner, and then they go walking around at night together.

She wants to kiss him soooooooooo bad, like soooooo SOOOOOOOOOOO SO bad,  but Hwahan declares to the camera that it’s not going to happen tonight.
Why?  Because of Cameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeela and Ben.
Um.  Hwahan.
You’ve already kissed like 32 girls, so the Cameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeela argument doesn’t fly.
You also kissed the NBA dancer who has a kid.
So the Ben argument doesn’t fly either.

This is Mama’s face when she is trying to be cool for the camera about the fact that she wants a kiss.
I love Mama.

  Poor Mama!

Hwahan!  KISS MAMA ALREADY!
I’m starting to get nervous because if Mama runs to a bathroom and starts crying, 
WHO’S GOING TO RUN AND COMFORT HER?!?
Group Date
Who’s invited?  All you need to know is that Clare is invited.
Date card says:  Can  you go with the flow?
fyi:  When her name is called out on the date card, this is how Andi looks.
And she pretty much looks like this the rest of the episode.

Hwahan tells the girls to partner up, and the one left without a partner (Clare) gets to hop
 in Hwahan’s “boat”.
I use the term “boat” loosely here.

They hop in what looks to me like the equivalent of a bamboo bowl and float down the river.
Claire and Hwahan Pablo get stuck in the weeds and make out.
Um.  Hwahan.  What about Cameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeela?
And, I hate to always be Debbie Downer, but was nobody worried that their BOWL might capsize?
I’m thinking Vietnam waters might have a snake or 2 in them.

And then totally and completely spontaneously (EXCEPT NOT) good ol’ Hwahan walks up to a “random” villager (who was no doubt contacted over a year ago by the ABC production teacm) and gets him to invite the gaggle of ladies into his home for a meal.
They help a family harvest some food, and then they eat the food they harvest.
Clare manages to sit next to Hwahan (as only Clare can make happen consistently) and he continues to give her a little extra attention.

Cut to the cocktail party.

He grabs CLARE (surprise, surprise) for the first 1:1 time and I’m pretty sure the other women on the date all shot death daggers out of their eyes directly into her heart.
Just a hunch.
He takes her to his suite (Um.  Hwahan.  You have several other ladies waiting for you ON YOUR DATE) and they hop in the pool and totally make out.
Again, I feel compelled to question why he thinks Cameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeela would be okay with him sucking face with Clare, but not with Mama.

They returned to the date after a full blown love fest in his private pool, and then he sneaks away with the opera singer.
She says that she needs to know that he sees her as a Panda in a room full of brown bears.

Repeata Por Favor?
Me no understand.
She seems sad.
So he sticks his tongue down her throat to make her feel better (and to get her to stop talking).
There’s one thing I know about this Panda:
SHE CAN WEAR A BACKLESS DRESS LIKE NOBODY’S BUSINESS.
Then he takes the assistant district attorney to the beach.
She seems sad.
So he sticks his tongue down her throat to make her feel better (and to get her to stop talking).
She stops giving the stink eye for a 1/2 a second while they are making out.
And then he gives the rose to Clare.
And I’m scared for her.
The girls all go back to their suite and dip Clare’s hand in warm water while she’s sleeping.
J/K
WAIT.
Who is that sneaking away?
That’s right girls, you guessed it.  CLARE.
And I’ve gotta say, even though I barely know Clare, I feel like this move is CLASSIC CLARE.
She declares that she wants to swim in a warm ocean for the first time.
I know it’s hard to read, but do you see that her hometown is California?
I’m going to go ahead and call bull corn on the fact that she wants to go swim in a warm ocean
 for the first time.

They run into the ocean, they are clearly making out pretty hard core, but this is where it gets weird.
She says,
“I let myself be vulnerable.  We just went for it, and I don’t regret it.  Pure bliss, in every way.”
Who knows if it really happened or if ABC is just trying to make us think it happened, but we are all left wondering if Hwahan and Clare just did the big wiggle.
I would like to go ahead and put it out there that the big wiggle would be hard to actually accomplish with the large waves that were crashing around them.

At this point, my guess is that Clare was actually talking about eating a brownie or something and that those tricky producers at ABC just edited it to their liking.  Because let’s be honest, Clare’s ROCKING bod makes me think she never allows herself to indulge in a brownie.
Let’s examine her statement again, but this time let’s assume she’s talking about eating a brownie.
“I let myself be vulnerable. We just went for it, and I don’t regret it. Pure bliss, in every way.”
See?  She could totally be talking about a brownie.

And I hate to point out the obvious, but in case she wasn’t talking about a brownie, this might be in their future.  I wonder how Cameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeela is going to feel about this.

Second 1:1
Nikki
Date Card says:  Let’s Have a Hell of a Good Time

Nikki, who I will now be referring to as Pocohontas from here on out gets told that they
 are going to repel down into a cave.

 And while looking at Nikki I can’t decide if her look is more Pocahontus….

 Or if it’s more reminiscent of Olivia Newton John in her Get Physical video.

Nikki panics, Hwahan grabs her face and tells her to stop being a baby.
Just kidding.
He doesn’t tell her that.
But he should have.

She tries to pull it together, but asks  “Should someone call my mom and tell her I love her?”
Her next quote is my favorite of the night.  When considering the possible outcomes of her choice to repel down into the cave she says:

“I either live, or I die, or I poop my pants.”
3 very plausible outcomes.

Is it incredibely tacky of me that I was kind of hoping that she would actually poop her pants?
Because THAT would have been awesome.
She ends up doing it (repelling, not pooping her pants, dangit), they make out, and then they head to dinner. They talk about her job and life in general, and I don’t know if Nikki knows this, BUT SHE FORGOT TO WEAR PANTS.  
Nikki, THE PEDIATRIC NURSE says “I wouldn’t have came here if I didn’t think I could be a step mom.”  Really?  Really Nurse Nikki?


Time for the cocktail party.
Hwahan is going to offer a toast, but instead Clare jumps in and says…
“Cheers to Finding love, being loved, and making love.”
Um. NO SHE DIHUNT.
Everybody say it with me now.
CLASSIC Clare.

And then it’s time for Hwahan to mingle with the ladies.
And he finally kisses Mama!
HIGH FIVE MAMA!
And it seemed to be a really good kiss.
Way better than the opera singer is able to offer.
I REALLY like Mama.  I don’t necessarily like her with Hwahan, but I do really like HER.
I tell you what needs to happen.
  Ari needs to throw Mama against a wall and show her how it’s done.
Claire and Huhwhan get some alone time.
She tries to be all flirty with him and reminisce about the other night.
And he TOTALLY shuts her down.
And then he basically STARTS BLAMING HER for their little escapade in the ocean!
He says it “felt weird” and that “it wasn’t fair”.
 I actually felt really badly for her.
HELLO HWAHAN!
She didn’t MAKE you do ANYTHING.  You’re a grown man and and you frolicked into that ocean on your own accord.  Don’t blame yourself Clare.

He goes to comfort her, and then he tells her to look at him like 87 times. 
Clare, I’m with you on this one, Hwahan needs to take some ownership.
He straight up tried to shame her, and I found it incredibly annoying and oogie.
TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY Hwahan.
Cameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeela is YOUR daughter, not Clare’s.  You could have spoken up.
Time for Hwahan to tearfully ship some people off.
Who leaves?
The Dog Lover.
The girl who I have no idea who she is.
The girl who I’ve seen before, but I still have no idea who she is.
The End.

    Actually, as a California girl, I totally get Clare's wish to swim in a WARM ocean. The Pacific is FREEZING. All the time. And those Converse Shoreline slip-on sneakers? Pure awesomeness! I got a pair in white with hot pink accents and I loved them so much, I ordered another pair in black with purple accents. Now I am seriously considering a gray and red pair like yours or maybe the gray and coral that you linked to above.

Your BAchelor posts are brilliant, it doesn't even exist over here anymore (no great loss though!) but these recaps completely make up for my lack of Real TV, because yeah, I'm all serious like that now, I wear tan boots and grey cardigans over lottle black dresses so I'm not in it for the joke, I only watch the news and our National Assmebly debates…. please everyone pretend you believe me 😀

    I was also going to comment the the Pacific Ocean is freezing!!! All of the time!! But loved the recap anyway! I can't stand Juan Pablo…it is obvious that he doesn't having much going on upstairs. I have a feeling we will NOT be seeing Juan's wedding anytime soon.

    Seconding the California comment–I am a Northern California native, and up here the Pacific Ocean is COLD year round. And Sacramento is nowhere near the ocean, so Clare's excuse to swim in warm waters was corny, sure, but not completely false. 🙂 Love your reviews, and really excited for the red wellies giveaway 🙂

    HILARIOUS!!! And I said the SAME thing about the ocean and the Cameeelllla ordeal. It's the Bachelor. You kiss on this show. It's what you do. You kiss all of them. If you don't want your child seeing you kiss girls–then 1. don't go on the bachelor or 2. don't let her watch. That's just my opinon though. I know he is just trying to have some boundaries and keep it classy (and I like that), but you can't make out with some girls and then pull the kid card on a few of them. It just doesn't work!

    And the opera singer can rock a backless dress like nobody's business. You are right about that!!!

    And Clare gets on my nerves with her having to be all beside JP all the time. Give me a break. LOL!

    The converse that you don't have to tie ("shoreline") runs small…..don't know why, but I tried a pair on but basically you need to size up! I have 4 regular pairs in size 7 and even the hidden wedge high tops in a size 7, but when I tried on a 7, they were too small and tight. Almost could go up a whole size if wearing socks and converse do not stretch!!!

    I seriously just about died from your recap, SO funny! And you know I just can't get on board with this Hwahan Pablo guy cause he is all sorts of confusing and he's just blah SO the other week I headed over to the Reality Steve blog to get the dirt on all the spoilers and because he makes fun of HP so much and it is so hilarious to me. This season is really a joke to me and the only thing that keeps me watching it is your recaps because they are SO spot on and just to dang funny!!! This guy just doesn't have it going on and if he uses the Cameeeeeeeeeela excuse ONE MORE time I will probably just vomit….it's ridiculous!
    On a better note, Mason in that blardigan….cutest blardigan wearer EVER!!!

    I have never responded on your blog before, but can I say that I am laughing so hard right now..that I have almost peed my pants! Love your commentary on the Bachelor. I actually went to college with Juan and it is quite funny how none of my friends remember him having such a thick accent. I guess playing professional soccer in South America change that! He was a good guy, but a total ladies man as you can already tell! Thanks for starting my day off with a good laugh!

    I kept wondering why he wouldn't kiss Renee either. She's my favorite. I'm hoping its because he respects her & just looks at the others like little hoes? Fingers crossed or her – the only one who seems to have any sense.

    I love your take this week. I totally agree that her actions are all classic Clare moves, she seems quite self-absorbed. Juan is not much better. So wrong of him to blame her like that. I was so disappointed with every detail of that situation. I am wondering when all the other ladies find out(you know they will). Now that will be AMAZING!

    I just found your blog about a month ago, and I love it! I love your fashion advice… but, I have to admit, your Bachelor recap posts are my favorite. 🙂 I'm sure it is a lot to keep it up, but I really appreciate the laughs! It's funny… Now when I watch the Bachelor, I think "I can't wait to see what Sheaffer will say about this." Oh, Clare. But, yes, shame on Huwahan. I'm hoping a little that Mama is the next Bachelorette. She's awesome and deserves way better than Huwahan!!

    I actually watched the entire episode this week…OMG! Can you say Clare is a Hoe? lol! Or at least she totally made herself look like one after that ocean stunt and her toast! Crazy! JP wasn't any better though laying all the blame on her.

    Ari and Mama = good call!! How long do these group dates last b/c I was thinking the same thing when he snuck Clare away to his suite for pool time…do the other poor girls just sit there for hours? Opera singer and backless dresses…totally rocks them. Is it weird that I started liking Nikki better after her poop comment? Totally wanted to scream at JP when he told Clare to look at him a hundred times. In fact, despite his womanizing ways and everything else that might be annoying, I was still on board with him up until that point. There is something about shaming a girl and then making her look at you that seems totally creepy and controling. But your best comment of the whole recap…brownies…yup, I think she was totally commenting on brownies.

    Why Clare didn't muster her self respect, apologize for the misunderstanding and hand him back the rose is beyond me… I would have called a cab immediately. I think they were wrong to sneak off during the group date and to hook up in the middle of the night. But still, I was very disappointed in Juan for the way he reacted after the fact.

    This is clearly who he is- he keeps saying he doesn't want to upset them and doesn't want to tell them the truth upfront so as not to "hurt their feelings" (is it me or has he said that EVERY EPISODE?)…then you find out later that something he agreed to is not at all what he wanted.

    Mama DESERVES to be the next bachelorette… I'm hoping she makes it a few more weeks and then becomes the next one. She deserves a great guy– but not him!

    I absolutely adore your blog and think the recap is better than the show itself. I'm also very disappointed in Hwahan and how he shamed Clare. Do I like her? No but she didn't deserve to be treated like that. Really changed my image of him even though he's been sucking face with all the girls anyway. And I love mama!!!! She's too good for Hwahan and I hope she finds true love–just somewhere else!

    Love your Bachelor recap posts! I wrote a post earlier this week about how the Bachelor leaves me with more questions than answers. Yes, JP is being SUCH a hypocrite for all his "I'm not going to kiss this girl (because of my daughter), but I will kiss that that girl." Uggghhh. Then this whole debacle with Clare…geeze louise, Huwahn! And how many more times will we hear Charleen say the word "organic?"

    You are so spot on with Clare. She just bothers me now. I was super excited this for this season b/c I really liked JP when he was on Dez's season of The Bachelorette; and the fact that he really loves his daughter. But I've been really disappointed in some of his actions. But I'll keep watching, especially for your recaps 🙂
