STATMENT TOPS

Earlier this week I had a conversation via dm on instagram with a reader (shout out, Liz!) about statement tops.  She messaged me to let me know she was missing me highlighting Anthro and Free People because she always loved their statement tops!  I told her that I’d ordered several statement tops from Anthro, Free People, and Madewell…but that I hadn’t loved any of them.

Let’s start with this beautiful embroidered top.  First I paired it with white jeans, BECAUSE DUH.

I took this shot to show you how relaxed and flowy the fit it is.  The top is wide, but it drapes beautifully.  And as you can see above, you can wear it out like a typical baby doll top is worn, but you can also do a 1/2 tuck like you see above on the right.  This top is a great deal at $69.  I would expect to pay over $100 for a top like this at Anthro.

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium because the embroidery at the top doesn’t allow for any give.  If a top doesn’t have any give up top, I always need a medium, so it’s true to size for me in a top like this.  All that to say, just buy your regular size.

For more of a boho look, I paired the top with my new straight leg cropped jeans.  They’ve got a bit of stretch to them, and they just make me feel cool.  They’ve got a straight leg, they’re cropped, and they have some distressing.  I LOVE THEM.  For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 27.

And I of course had to show it with my favorite denim shorts.  I’ve owned these shorts for 3 years now, and they’re still going strong. They’ve got some stretch in them and I just love the style. I own them in both a 27 and a 28. I’m wearing the size 27 here, but I actually prefer the fit of the size 28. The 28s give me a bit more length and a bit more room, which I appreciate. (I still can’t find my 28s, which is why I’m wearing the 27s here.)

HOW CUTE IS THIS TOP?  That’s a rhetorical question of course, because we all know that it is super cute.

Wanted to show you how roomy this top is too with this shot.

It’s got a little flutter sleeve, 7 buttons up the back, black and gold embroidery on a cream background up top, and the bodice has tiny little pleats all the way around.  It lays beautifully.  And again, you can wear it out and let it just hang with all the pretty pleats, or you can do a half tuck.

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in this one too, but only to allow for boobs (and my massive rib cage).  I’m pretty wide across my bust.  Again, a medium is true to size for me in a top like this.

Okay, we need a minute to talk about the sandals before we get to the next top.

GIRLS.  Get these sandals.  Get them now, before they’re gone….because they will go.

They are from Amazon and they are ONLY $18.90!!! They are totally unassuming when you see them, BUT I LOVE THEM WHEN I PUT THEM ON MY FEET.  I love that the foot bed is brown (gives a nice contrast), I love that the foot bed is comfy (with foam padding), and I love that they somehow manage to look kinda high end once they are on your feet!

I’m telling you…they are FABULOUS, cushioned, and comfortable.  They are true to size, and I honestly cannot believe the price.

So I think this is the first time I’m showing you these black denim shorts, and I think they look awesome with this black top and black sandals combo.

They are from the same maker as my favorite denim shorts, they are just a washed black!  They are essentially the exact same shorts, just in a new color.

I know all of you that already have and love  the best denim shorts are immediately putting this black version into your cart.  IT’S A TOTAL NO BRAINER for those of us that already have the other pair.

Here’s the top styled 2 ways.  It would of course be cute with white jeans too.

This top is similar to the first top I showed you color wise, but the design and fit is a bit different.  My favorite part about this top is probably the banded, gathered, and ruffled sleeves.  I love the sleeve length, the embroidery work on the top is fabulous, and the colors are gorgeous.

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in this top too.  You can see in the pics that the v is a little low for me, so I’m wearing a cami under it.  I’ve got the shortest upper body ever, so it might not be too low on you, but it does require a cami for me.  (I actually tried to exchange this for the small to hopefully combat the low v, but the small was too short on me at the waist.)  If you have a long torso, this top probably isn’t going to be for you.

It’s boxy (but it lays nicely and still manages to be flattering) with a bit of a high low hem.

If you’re still living the skinny jean life (I’ll never stop), these light wash frayed hem jeans are great for spring and summer.  The wash is PERFECT, the fit is awesome. and the step and frayed hem screams summers.  For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 27.

Here’s a close up of the hem and the sandals.  HOW CUTE IS THE HEM! It’s a step hem AND it’s frayed.  I’m here for it.

More on the sandals later in the post, but these are my cognac sandals from last year, and I think they’re going to be my cognac sandals again this year.  I tried to update my closet with a new pair, but in the end, these are the best because they are definitely the most comfy of the bunch.

MY SANDALS

If you like the black sandals above, they come in gold too. Please tell me I’ve convinced you to give these a shot.

They are true to size, cushy, comfy, and CUTE!  And just under $20!  True to size for me.

Do y’all remember the post where I showed you 4 pairs of cognac sandals?  First I thought I was keeping the embellished sandals, and then I started leading towards the buckle sandals.  But y’all, in the end, I decided that my favorite pair are the cut out sandals I already had from last year (seen below).  Yep, I took the others back (the embellished ones ended up not being super comfy and I started wishing that the buckle ones had a wider band) and decided to just stick with the sandals below (that I’ve had since last year).  Haha!

They are no longer available at Nordstrom in this color, although they are still available at Nordstrom in other colors.  But I did find them still stocked in all sizes HERE.  True to size for me.

So y’all know I got these studded wedges earlier this year.  I love them so much and they are 30% OFF right now with the code AFTERPAY.

These are pretty tall at 4″, but they don’t feel nearly that high.  They are actually pretty dang comfortable and I was able to walk around my house with ease.  And come on, they are HOT.

However, even though I love the studded wedges, some of y’all didn’t love the studs.  And I actually had quite a few requests from readers for non studded neutral wedges.  Well, I hadn’t found any I liked…UNTIL NOW!

These neutral wedges are fabulous.  The wedge is braided, there’s little white stitching details, they’ve got a great square toe, and they are a perfect neutral.  These are a lot easier to get on and off than the studded wedges, and since the strap has a bit of stretch to it, you can actually pull them off and on without having to mess with the buckle (which I totally appreciate).  I love not having to buckle them each time I put them on.  They are on the narrow side, so if you have wide feet, these might not be for you.  If between sizes, I would suggest sizing up.  UPDATE:  I was able to get to the mall today, I tried a 1/2 size up, and I would recommend that everybody size up a 1/2.  I exchanged mine.

And don’t forget about the studded crossband sandals from Target that I first highlighted several weeks ago.  When I shared them, most sizes of this neutral color were sold out, but they’re back now!  And they are just under $25!  They come in black too, and both colors are totally chic.

I found a couple more Amazon finds that are BACK IN STOCK.  Like this cute little t-shirt dress. And not only is it back, it’s also ON SALE!

It’s incredibly soft, I love the fit (not too boxy, but not clingy), AND ITS CAMO!  For size reference, I’m wearing a small.  The sunglasses, bag, and sandals are all from Amazon too….AND THEY ARE ALL SO GOOD.

And you know me, I had to show it to you with a denim jacket as well.  I’m wearing a small in the jacket and love the fit.  It’s got a little bit of stretch to it, the collar does a good job of standing up on its own (if you want it to), and it’s not too long or too short.  It’s a great little jacket and an awesome price point at just a little over $40.

If you changed the necklace, swapped out the sandals for booties or sneakers, and changed the bag to a cognac tote, you could wear this combo all the way into Fall.

The patent sandals were one of my greatest surprises last year.  If you recall, I first showed them to you in a collage.  I said they weren’t for me (because I don’t really like flip flops unless they are Havianas), but I ordered them anyway just so I could review them for you.  I gave them a great review, but still didn’t think they were for me.  And then I threw them on one day when I was running across the street to the neighbor’s house, and now I continue to reach for them.  They really are quite comfortable (the foot bed is a bit squishy), and I do love the color and the fact they are patent.  And of course they are a great option for those of you that love the look of a Tory Burch Miller sandal, but don’t want to pay the price.  These are soooo affordable at UNDER $40!
