It’s time once again for WHAT UP WEDNESDAY where we let everybody know what we’ve been up to this month! Head over to see what Shay is up to, and then make sure you link up at the bottom!
*WHAT WE ARE EATING*
Okay, ladies. I know I said a month or two ago that I was going to start exercising and eating healthy again. BUT Y’ALL. I haven’t. I’m not sure why I haven’t been motivated, but I just haven’t been. I guess we all just go through seasons. BUT NOW I’M MOTIVATED. I was supposed to start hard core last week, but life realllllllllly got in the way. So, I started this week. So far, so good.
When I get motivated and focused, I’m laser focused. I pretty much only eat lean meats, fish, and tons of fruits and veggies. I cut way back on carbs and sugars, I start drinking TONS of water, and by the end of the first week I’m always feeling better. Now, the first week is BRUTAL and I’m constantly hangry and feeling deprived…but as soon as I see even the tiniest bit of results, it’s not so bad! #soletsdothis #summerisaroundthecorner
*WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT*
A couple of weekends ago we headed to the family ranch with some friends. It was the perfect weekend, we all had an absolute blast, and I got some great shots of the kids and the pups.
*WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO*
Last week I was a chaperone on the 4th grade field trip to Austin! Due to privacy rules, this is the only picture I can post, but I sure did have a great time with this guy. I’m soaking up all these moments, because I know it won’t be too long before he starts begging me to NOT go on field trips with him.
*WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND*
I announced on Conner’s WORK WEAR post last week that she is pregnant! Her family is having a gender reveal party for her little one this weekend, and I can’t wait to see if I’m going to have a new niece or nephew!!!
*WHAT I’M WATCHING*
American Idol
This is Us
Grey’s Anatomy
*WHAT I’M LISTENING TO*
Carter and Chris are watching FAIL videos together, and they are laughing hysterically. Like crazy people. And I love it.
*WHAT I’M WORKING ON*
I have lots of amazing content coming up for y’all on the blog! You’re going to have to wait and see, but just know that I’m working very hard behind the scenes over here. I have a super busy April with lots of really great posts planned, and I think some of the are going to really surprise you!
*WHAT I’M LOVING*
Timehop.
Man, Timehop slays me every dang time. These two PRECIOUS pics popped up this past week and both of them made me teary.
*WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT/ WHAT I’M WEARING*
I’m super excited about what I’m wearing below, so I decided to combine the prompts! Do you remember this question I received in my last READER QUESTIONS post? When I answered, I teased that I had a JCPenney post coming up, and today is the day! I think you’re going to be just as excited as I am.
When you see my outfits below, you will be pumped about the idea of refreshing your Spring wardrobe without breaking the bank! JCPenney has Spring styles that will allow you to be totally on trend, while still managing to save money. Now, that’s a WIN WIN!
And get this….they have a special going on right now! Their Friends & Family Sale runs 3/28-3/31 which is extra 25% off in stores and online with code FAMILY6.
This first outfit would be great for a Spring barbecue. And after I put it all on, I realized that the white tunic, the blue denim, and the vibrant red earrings would also be perfect for a July 4th celebration!
I was immediately drawn to this white tunic online, and I loved it even more in person. It’s a crinkly fabric that is incredibly lightweight and will be able to be worn all the way into summer. It’s easy, breezy, and DARLING. Today this tunic is under $20 (regularly $44), with the code FAMILY6.
I sized up to a medium because I wanted a roomy fit, but as you’ll see in my instastories today, I could have stuck with my regular size small and still been fine. After taking these pics, I did exchange it for the small, and it’s still plenty roomy (without being too billowy). The sleeves are full length, but I prefer them rolling them up for a more relaxed look.
white tunic / red earrings / jeans / straw tote / wedges
The earrings are FAB. They are incredibly lightweight and pack quite a style punch! Today they are under $12, regularly $27, with the code FAMILY6.
And y’all. The jeans.
Listen to me when I say the jeans are good.
I LOVE THEM.
And y’all. Today the jeans could be as low as $21, regularly $49, with the code FAMILY6.
There has been a jean trend happening for awhile now where the hems are crazy. Lots of what I call “scarecrow” hems, lots of really cropped flares, lots of interesting styles (to say the least). Well I’ve tried on TONS of jeans, but until now I’ve never ventured further than a subtle step hem or raw hem.
These cropped step hem jeans are totally stylish, very on trend, really flattering, and totally affordable.
YES, PLEASE.
They come in 3 washes, and I’m wearing the “DK Ivy” in my regular size 4s.
The step hem is a little more severe than the step hem jeans I’ve worn in the past, but it’s still not crazy. And I like that the finish is a bit raw as well.
AND they are noticeably cropped, without being too cropped.
Seriously. I love them.
The wedges are great worn casually here, but they will be awesome with a sundress as well! They come in black, white, and taupe too, but I grabbed my GO TO cognac. They are true to size and comfy. With the code FAMILY6, you can get them for just under $25 (regularly $60).

Sadly, my straw tote is currently unavailable. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a restock, but until then, I’ve got some great options for you! Just click on what you are interested in:
You know how much I loved the tunic above? Well, I loved it so much that I doubled down and picked it up in the blue too. This one is the navy/white stripe. I love it with white denim, but it will also look great with regular denim. I’m wearing it here with another pair of wedges, but it will be just as cute with a pair of Shoreline Converse.
blue tunic / yellow earrings / straw tote / white jeans / wedges
I’m wearing a 5 in the jeans, which is pretty typical for me in junior’s sizing, although I sometimes wear a 7. The wedges are more casual than the ones above, and they don’t have an ankle strap for those of you that just prefer to slip them on and off without messing with a buckle. These are also true to size and comfy, and they come in black.

I feel like it’s now my mission to try denim jackets from all brands and retailers, so I of course wanted to grab one from JCP!
I have to say, I love this one. It’s a very light wash that’s a really great color for Spring and Summer. It’s over sized without being boxy, and it’s not stiff at all! I’m wearing a medium here, which is the same size I wear in my much beloved denim jacket, but the medium in this one fits quite a bit bigger. It’s both wider and longer, but I didn’t mind the fit. I could definitely wear a small for a more fitted look.
Today the jacket is UNDER $30 (regularly $64).
embroidered tee / denim jacket / yellow earrings / white jeans / wedges
The embroidered tee is a really pretty green with white and pink accents. I’m wearing my regular small. It also comes in navy, white, pink, blue, and purple.

You saw 2 of these 3 earrings in the outfits above, and you will see the 3rd pair (the white pair) in my 2nd post in this series. I’ll be wearing them with this dress in the olive color (although the chambray is super cute too)!
Y’all know I love a good statement earring, and these are bold and affordable…especially with the FAMILY6 code! Just click on the link to see how much they will be today!
yellow earrings / red earrings / white drop earrings
So, are you as impressed with the JCP Spring items as I am? #causeimrealllllyimpressed When you want great style at a great value, don’t forget turn to JCP as a great shopping option!
Thank you to JCPenney and ShopStyle for sponsoring this portion of the post.
*BONUS QUESTION: FAVORITE EASTER SIDE DISH*
A couple of years ago, one of Chris’s extended family members (Love you, Sue Sue!) let me know about a recipe she had made. She told me it was called “pineapple casserole”, and I turned up my nose at the thought. I mean, I love pineapple…but in a casserole? No thank you. In an effort to convince me of how delicious it was, she listed off the ingredients. It didn’t convince me. It did quite the opposite in fact.
HOWEVER….a couple of weeks later I was headed to our annual Christmas party and recipe exchange at Shay‘s house, and this recipe popped into my head. I’m always looking for unusual recipes (so I can hopefully win the contest!), and I was pretty sure I couldn’t get any more unusual than this.
WELL. People initially scoffed at the idea of a pineapple casserole, just like I had.
And then they tried it.
And then they loved it.
And then I won the recipe contest that night.
The End.
Click HERE for the recipe. It’s the perfect Easter side dish because it goes perfectly with ham!

Shay Shull says
Every time you call them “pups”, I think of Erika. Hahahaha!
Narci says
Love all those earrings! And your pineapple casserole is one of my faves!
Leiah F says
Just bought those gorgeous red earrings and when I went to check out, imagine my delight when there was a black version that I “might also like.,” Well, duh. Into the cart they went. Thanks for all the time you spend finding all the wonderful things for us.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Leiah! I love the black ones too…but black earrings just disappear into my hair. 🙁
Wendy says
Sheaffer, I made this pineapple casserole you posted awhile back and my guys loved it!!! Your posts are so great. And, I’m loving my new Kut from the Kloth jeans. Have a fantastic day!
Sheaffer says
So glad you loved the casserole, Wendy! Isn’t it weirdly delicious?!? 🙂 And I’m thrilled to hear you are loving the jeans like I am! In fact, I have a bonus post tomorrow about them!!! xoxo
Karis says
Thank you for doing a JcP post!
Sheaffer says
It was fun! I’m having a great time starting to branch out and find awesome things at other retailers…especially ones at such an affordable price point. You aren’t going to believe my post next Monday, so stay tuned! 🙂 xoxo
Lisa says
I ordered the white shirt! I think it’ll be perfect for my trip to Cancun in a few weeks. And I couldn’t pass up the red earrings either. Honestly, never considered JCPenney, so thanks for that! The pineapple casserole has peeked my interest. It does sound odd!
Alisha Wilson says
Sheaffer, The color of the green top in your pictures looks a lot different than the JCP website pics. Is it more of a brighter green in person, than the mossy looking green on the website?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Alisha! Gosh, color is so hard for me. This isn’t going to be much help, but I would say it’s not as drab as it appears on the site, but maybe not quite as bright green as it appears in my pictures? Light really messes with the coloring of items, so it’s hard to say. I hope this helps a little! xoxo
Angie Clark says
You are just adorable and all these clothes look great on you! I just placed an order and I can’t wait to get those show stopper red earrings!
Sheaffer says
You’re too sweet, Angie! Thank you so much! xoxo
Brandie Rodgers says
Remind me how tall you are please! I love the step hem jeans on you but they look much more cropped on the model. I’m 5’8” and don’t want them to be too short!! This is my first time commenting but I’ve been a reader for years!!!! You have done A LOT of shopping for me over the years!! A LOT!! Thank you, friend!
Brandie
Sheaffer says
Hi, Brandie! I’m 5’4″. Thanks for the sweet words for the blog and being such a loyal reader! I appreciate you so much! xoxo
Mother of 3 says
I love JCPenney! I have 6 pairs of jeans from them and as they wear out I only plan to replace them with as close to the originals as I can find.
Sheaffer says
So good to know!!!! Thanks for the comment! I really do love the denim ones from this post! xoxo
Leah says
What is the nail color you’re wearing in this blog post? I can’t tell if it’s a red or pink or a pinky red but it looks like a great spring/summer color. We are similar in coloring (hair and skin tone, etc.) and I have a hard time with trendy nail polish colors. I see beautiful nail colors on other people but they never seem to look as good on me with my skin tone. In the future, would you mind to include that in your posts?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Leah! It was from the salon, and I don’t remember. So sorry! I will definitely try to remember to do this! xoxo
AMY says
It was a totally rainy day here so I stopped by my local JCP and they were having a Black Friday in May sale and the prices were amazing! There were lots of cute things and I saved more than I spent. ; ) I totally have them back on my radar thanks to you!
