Friday Favorites: Sam Edelman Cognac Sandals & Summer Outfits

It’s Friday, so y’all know what that means!  It’s time to link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to let everybody know what some of my favorite things are right now including several styles of Sam Edelman cognac sandals. And I’ve got a ton of cute summer tops to share with you!

SAM EDELMAN COGNAC SANDALS

Cognac sandals are ALWAYS a must for my Spring and Summer wardrobe. The pair that I chose for myself this year (#2) are now sold out in the most popular sizes, and I have readers that are still looking to purchase a sandal. So, I thought it was a good idea to review the options I had at the beginning of the season.

When I started looking for a pair this year, I started with Sam Edelman, who is pretty much always my GO TO for a flat sandal.  I found 3 online that I ordered, and then I saw 1 in store on Friday. My plan was to order several, photograph them side by side, choose 1 for myself, and hopefully make it easy for you ladies to choose a cognac sandal as well.

I will say, if you already have a great cognac sandal, they all come in additional colors as well.

Here were the 4 that I concentrated on.  Do you immediately have a favorite?

OH! I almost forgot to report on comfort!  All 4 of them are comfortable.  #iwontwearashoeifitsnot  And I would suggest sizing up a 1/2 size in all of them.

1.  two strap slide sandal (comes in 10 colors!)/ 2. strappy sandal (comes in black too!)/ 3.  slide sandal (comes in 9 colors!) 4.  cross strap slide sandal (comes in 5 colors, including a cool silver!)

And here I am wearing them all side by side.  Is your favorite still the same?  I will say, all 4 are awesome, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

I prefer a richer cognac, so my favorites were automatically #2 and #4, just based on color alone.  And as luck would have it, those styles were my favorites too!

SIZING TIP:  I ordered and am wearing a 6 1/2 (my regular size) in 1, 3, and 4.  However, they all seemed a little short, like my toes or my heels could hang off at any moment.  I got #2 in store on Friday at Northpark, and when the salesman brought them to me, he brought the 6 1/2 (that I had requested) AND the 7.  The 7s were the winners for me, even though I’m always a solid 6 1/2.  The salesman explained that all of the Sam Edelman sandals with this foot bed tend to run a bit on the small side.  So again, I would suggest sizing up a 1/2 size in all of them.

I also have these slides in orange and ADORE them.  I’m giving you this 5th option because they come in cognac too!  I went with my regular size in these because a half size up were too wide for me.  So, my favorites are #2 in the above collage, and these are now my 2nd favorite option!

FAVORITE SHIRT IN A NEW COLOR

I’ve got some great news!  I know lots of you were devastated (we are all a little dramatic! ha!) when this top sold out earlier this week.  Well, they can’t get it in this colorway again, but it’s now available in a blue colorway!  Limited quantities available in this one too (the red one sold out in 2 hours), so don’t delay!

Pair the blue one with red earrings and either white or denim shorts, and you are still all sorts of festive for July 4th.  I can hardly handle the cuteness.   The stripes!  The embroidery!  The rick rack trim around the neckline and sleeves!  I LOVE IT ALL.

Now, the blue one hasn’t arrived at my house yet, but as a reminder, here’s what the red one looks like so you can get an idea of the fit.  I sized up to a medium in this top, but I think a small might fit me too.  They are going to send me a small in blue, so we’ll see which fit I like better.  If you don’t have a large chest, I think it would definitely be okay to stick with your regular size.

This top is just too dang cute.

MORE EASY SUMMER OUTFITS

So I’m guessing everybody knows by now that in the summer, my most worn clothing item is definitely my favorite denim shorts.  Sure, I wear my white jeans some, my favorite 4″ LOFT shorts some (I have khaki and navy and they are both 40% OFF right now), and a different pair of frayed cut offs….but most often it’s this cuffed distressed pair you see below.

So, summer dressing is super easy for me because all I need on most days is a cute top and some accessories.  {Next week I will be sharing some nicer shorts outfits…but today it’s all about easy outfits with my favorite denim.}

This top is a bright and vibrant red color that I love.  The light and airy fabric and relaxed fit make this a perfect summer top in my book.  And I of course wear the best strapless bra in the history of the world with it.  Yes, that’s the bras official title.  #givenbyme

I’ve paired it with turquoise and yellow here, but if you pair it with blue and white, you’ve got a great top for July 4th!  For size reference, I’m wearing a small (which is true to size for me).  I’m wearing my regular 27s in the shorts, but for sure size down if between sizes.  The shoreline converse are true to size as well.  Click HERE for my favorite no show socks I wear with the converse.

When I ordered this tank I wasn’t sure I was going to love it since it just seemed kind of blah.  But I wanted a navy tank, so I gave it a whirl.

WELL.

It’s soft as can be, hangs just right, is totally flattering, has the cutest little pleats across the back, and comes in several colors.  For size reference, a small was good on me.  And you know I wear my wooden rainbow tassel pretty much any time I can.

I’ve got another gauzy off the shoulder top for you!  This one is a gorgeous white with pretty embroidery up top and a very flattering ruffle.  You’ll see this top on me sometime next week, but you need to make sure you size down.  The small was quite big on me, so I feel confident the x-small will be a better fit.  It comes in black too.  This is another top that could be a great 4th of July outfit.  The embroidery definitely leans pink, but you could help it lean red with accessories!

CASUAL SUMMER OUTFIT OPTIONS WITH WHITE JEANS

So I mentioned above how white jeans are also on rotation for me during the spring and summer months…so here’s some white jean inspo!

You first saw this top on last Friday’s post paired with my favorite denim shorts for a more casual look..and you can also see how it looks worn ON the shoulder (as opposed to off the shoulder like I’m doing here).

I know lots of you were so disappointed when the orange halter I featured from the Gibson x HiSugarplum line sold out, which is why I was extra excited when I found this one!  It’s cut a bit on the slimmer side, so I had to size up to a medium for enough room in the chest.  I was drawn to this blue floral, but there are several solids and another floral to choose from as well.

Full disclosure, I didn’t end up keeping this next top for myself because I found one in my closet from a couple of years ago that’s very similar..but I love the stripes and the fact that it’s a short sleeve button up!  It’s a great match with white jeans, but it’s good with denim shorts too.  It’s oversized, so I would recommend sizing down 1 size. I also saw this one while browsing around yesterday that has a front tie and a more muted stripe.

Reader comments typically come in waves.  It’s really strange how it works.  I’ll have a post here or there that doesn’t really inspire many questions or comments..and then I’ll have a post that really fosters tons of dialogue.  The $25 and UNDER post from several weeks ago was one of those posts.
