UPDATE: I finished up this post on Thursday afternoon and scheduled it to publish on Friday at 5:00 a.m. as usual. Then, last night I turned on the t.v. at about 10:30 (after Chris called from out of town and told me to do so) and saw a nightmare unfolding. I’m sure everybody has heard by now, but at the end of what was supposed to be a peaceful rally in downtown Dallas, snipers targeted police officers. 11 officers were shot, and 5 of those have died. Details are still unfolding this morning, but please pray for Dallas. Pray for the police force, the families of the officers that lost their lives, and the medical teams that are still working to save some of the other injured officers. Pray for the world.
My cousin Carrie’s husband is a Dart officer and was working the scene last night. He called her at 9:00 p.m. and told her he loved her, and then she didn’t hear from him again for 2 hours when he was finally able to text her “I’m good.”. She was so grateful for those two little words and we are so thankful that Keith is okay. Keith finally returned home this morning, but my heart just aches for the families whose loved ones did not return.
The rest of my post is being published as it was written.
It’s Friday, so y’all know what that means! It’s time to link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to let everybody know what some of my favorite things are right now!
FAVORITE #1: JUICE CLEANSE UPDATE
So y’all. I started my JUICE CLEANSE on Wednesday morning. I got up and was a little nervous. I weighed (UGH), took a pic of all the pretty juices lined up, and then started!
Here I am all cuddled up in my blardigan getting ready to crack open the first juice. The first juice was reallllllllllllly yummy. Juice #1 is called Sweet Spin and is a combo of kale, spinach, pineapple, banana, mango, and rice milk. I was nervous with this one because I HATE bananas, but it wasn’t overpowering at all, and was just really tasty! I loved it! Juice #2, the Spicy Lemonade was also good (basically lemonade with cayenne pepper.) A reader had suggested to freeze #2 for a bit to get it slushy, so that’s what I did! It was a good tip! I drank Juice #1 at about 6:30 and Juice #2 at 9:30. I then popped Juice #3 in the freezer to get it a little slushy as well before heading to meet friends at the pool. I drank #3 at the pool at around 11:30, and I have to say, I wasn’t a fan. It wasn’t sweet enough for me, and it was kind of pulpy, for lack of a better word. I drank it, didn’t gag or anything, but I didn’t think it was good. At about 1:30 I started getting hungry. I was also starting to experience a faint headache (I sometimes get headaches when I wear a pony tail and or a ball cap, and I was wearing both…and it was incredibly hot outside), so we headed home. I popped open Juice #4, the Chia Berry, at about 2:30 and it was absolutely delicious!!! I was looking forward to Juice #5 as well (the Island Coconut) and knew I was just going to have to tolerate Juice #6 (X-Treme Greens)…but I thought loving 4 out of 6 juices was pretty good.
But this is when things started going down hill. I couldn’t shake the headache, but I didn’t want to take Advil (I wasn’t sure how it would effect the cleanse and I don’t like taking Advil on an empty stomach), so I decided I would catch a little cat nap to try to get rid of the headache. I slept from about 3:15-4:00, but when I woke-up, the headache was really bad. I took 3 Advil, and an hour later, the headache was still there. We decided the headache might be from the cleanse (I’d read a small number of reviews that mentioned headaches), and just in case it was from the cleanse, I decided to eat a little something. I roasted some butternut squash chunks because I felt like it was still really clean and wouldn’t ruin the cleanse. I ate them up, BUTTERNUT SQUASH HAS NEVER BEEN SO DELICIOUS, but I still had the headache. I went back to sleep from 6:00-8:00. That’s a lot of napping! When I woke up, the headache was still there, but it was much more manageable. Still, just in case it was the cleanse, I had some chicken noodle soup, and finally started feeling better around 9:00.
In summary, I have NO IDEA if the headache was due to the cleanse or completely unrelated! It kind of felt like a sinus headache feels (lots of pressure), but who knows! However, it was bad enough that I’m going to wait until next week to do the next 2 days. Chris is planning on doing it next week as well, so I will just do my last 2 days during his 1st 2 days. I’m hoping the headache was just a huge coincidence, and that next week I’m able to complete the final 2 days in a row! When I start up again, I will obviously be hyper aware of headache signs and won’t let it get so bad if it is related. If you’ve done this cleanse, I’m very interested in your thoughts, so please leave a comment!
FAVORITE #2: Still Loving SUPERGOOP
I’m still using and loving my products c/o SUPERGOOP . I’m using the lip balm here. I’ve never had a problem with my lips burning, but I enjoy how moisturizing it is! I’ve also started to use and love the refresh setting mist and the body butter. Y’all, the refresh setting mist is SO COOL. It’s basically sunscreen that you can just spray over your make-up. It’s light and smells really great. If I’m at the pool, I don’t typically have on make-up, but it’s still a fun way to reapply sunscreen, which I am super diligent about, especially on my face. If you are somewhere that you are wearing make-up and need to reapply sunscreen, this is the perfect product for you! Click HERE and click on the stars so you can read the reviews to learn more about it. The only negative review talks about the sprayer clogging, but I haven’t had that issue yet. Apparently, shaking it really well before each use will help combat this problem.
Again, here are the products I’ve used so far and really loved.
FAVORITE #3: OLD NAVY PAJAMAS
Old Navy is often hit or miss for me. Well, I went yesterday, and it was a big ol’ HIT! I am LOVING my new pajamas, sadly they are getting close to being sold out online, but maybe you’ll have luck in store. I also got several pairs of THESE shorts on SUPER SALE.
french terry pajama tee (True to size, I’m wearing a small.)/ french terry lounge shorts (I sized up and am wearing a medium.) / all Old Navy pajamas found HERE (I especially love all of the sleep short options!)
FAVORITE #4: THIS SHIRT, THESE WEDGES, AND MY NEW CROSSBODY
Tuesday night we had a date night with some of our good friends, who just happen to be our neighbors! The 8 of us had a great time at Mexican Sugar (YUM! Check it out if you’re local)!
I thought this new top was fun and flirty for date night and I got to take my new wedges out on the town! And I was excited to get to use my new cross body c/o FashionABLE. It’s a great size and a beautiful cognac color. I don’t have a group pic, because with 4 girls, we couldn’t all agree on one! Ha! #typical
off the shoulder ruffle top / BEST STRAPLESS BRA EVER / fringe hoop earrings / wedges c.o. Sole Society / sunglasses / turquoise bracelet stack c.o. Accessory Concierge/ similar jeans (dark wash, by same maker) other jean option (not distressed) / cross body bag c.o. FashionABLE
I know you’ve seen them on here several times before, but my turquoise beaded hoop earrings are definitely a favorite! They add such a punch to so many outfits! And they pair perfectly with my bracelet stack!
Here’s the indoor shot for those of you that prefer it. This bag is gorgeous!
Get The Look For Yourself Here. Just click on the pic you are interested in, and you know I recommend THIS as the BEST STRAPLESS BRA EVER. Sadly, the thumbnail pictures have a glitch and the Sole Society price is wrong (the real price is $79.95).
Since my specific top is almost sold out, I thought you might want to check THIS one out. It’s cold shoulder instead of off the shoulder, but I thought some of you might actually prefer that! It looks like you could probably wear a regular bra with it (you can find my favorites HERE and HERE)!
Off the shoulder top options:
FAVORITE #5: NEW VIGOSS JEAN OPTIONS
I named Vigoss jeans a MUST HAVE almost 3 years ago now. Since that initial pair of jeans, I’ve bought and LOVED several additional pairs of Vigoss. The last two pairs I highlighted (the pajama jeans and the summer jeans of 2016) sold out almost immediately and never restocked. Boo! So, when I saw these three new pairs last night online, I knew I had to bring them to your attention. I went ahead and ordered all 3 for myself so I could do a thorough review for you. I ordered a 27 in all of them because they all say “true to size”. We’ll see if that’s true or not. #fingerscrossed
grey released hem skinny jeans / thompson cuffed jeans / chelsea destroyed skinny jeans (love the back pockets on these!)
FAVORITE #6: MISSION REGAR LEMONADE STAND
My friend Courtney and her hubby Josh at MISSION REGAN recently announced their LEMONADE STAND PROJECT! It’s a super cool idea and a really fun way for you to get your kids involved in giving back to those in need both locally and globally! Click HERE to see how you can be a part of this exciting project starting today through August 15th. It’s such a great way to teach kids that helping others is the best!
If you don’t have kids, you can click HERE if you would still like to participate by giving. And if you have an extra minute, I would like to encourage you to learn more about why Mission Regan was founded and what it’s about by clicking HERE. I’m going to go ahead and issue a tissue alert because the story is so sweet and such a beautiful illustration of God’s providence.
FAVORITE #7: DREW’S RECOVERY
Once again, I want to thank all of you for the continued prayers for Drew. You have been so dedicated to pray so faithfully, so I of course want to make sure you are updated on his progress and the new prayer requests! Drew is doing well (you can read specifics in the latest CaringBridge update), and Jill once again writes so beautifully about where they are in the process of returning to their new normal. Click HERE for the most recent update. Here are the new prayer requests in Jill’s words: We kindly ask that you continue to pray for Drew’s healing and recovery. Pray that he does not experience any additional set backs and that there are no medical surprises ahead. Finally, we pray for all the families out there that are still in the middle of their medical crises. We crossed paths with so many precious children that were barely holding on to their delicate little lives. We pray for their comfort and healing and we pray for their families who are tired and terrified. I pray that all of our hearts remain open to their pain so that we can minister to their needs and pray their prayers.
This was Drew right before he broke out of the hospital! 🙂
FAVORITE #8: NEXT WEEK IS THE ANNIVERSARY SALE!
Okay girls, NEXT WEEK is EARLY ACCESS for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If you want to shop with all of us early (starting on Thursday, July 14th), you need to make sure you go ahead and sign up for a credit or debit card so you can have early access! I know FOR SURE that there is a blardigan in the sale (even though it wasn’t in the catalog), and I have it on pretty good authority that there might be a baby blardigan as well. If last year is any indication, these will sell out during the pre-sale because so many people STOCK UP for Christmas gifts. Two years ago I gave one to my mom, my mother in law, my sister, my sister in law, and a grandma! I got 70% of my Christmas shopping done with one click and it was AWESOME. And last year I gave one to my 7 year old son! I’m telling you, this gift spans the ages. 😉
Remember, I’m going to be your PERSONAL SHOPPER during the sale and do everything I can to just make it a whole lot of fun! Check here Thursday morning to see many of my FAVORITE FINDS and let me lead you through the sale! Click HERE to see what a post from last year looks like if you want to get an idea for how the posts will look.
Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see y’all back here on Monday!

I hated that you felt bad on Wednesday!! I was, however, happy to make you laugh with my Phoebe story :). And listen, I need those PJs. Like yesterday.
Erika Slaughter says
Oh girl!! We parted ways after cleanse #3. I’m so sorry! I hope next week is better. But your date night outfit was on point!!
TrishR says
I’ve done a very similar cleanse and think that headache could be part of the ‘detox’ process. I remember when I did mine, there was information provided that lead you through a few days of prep – basically slowly taking things out of your diet like caffeine, sugar, animal proteins, etc. and loading up more on veggies and fruits. I did that and, while I can’t say I didn’t have any headaches, nothing was as bad as you describe. Just something you may want to consider the few days before you start it again. Good luck!!
Karen Stoltenberg says
I haven’t done this particular juice cleanse, but I have done another one. I had bad headaches when I did it as well, but I am prone to headaches. I agree with Trish’s response from above. I believe it can be part of the process, the headache can be a result of your body being cleansed from toxins. It was brutal, though. I can totally relate to what you went through.
Christina says
This news about the shootings in Dallas is terrible. Praying for everyone.
I’m so excited that there might be a baby blardigan in the sale. It’s mine if there is!
Cameron says
Hi Shaeffer. I am doing the same cleanse and am on day 3 today. I also had a terrible headache on day 1. Really painful. Also felt nauseous. Thought I might die. I ended up eating some roasted zucchini that night, took Advil, etc and nothing helped. I went to bed feeling awful and decided this cleanse was not for me. I woke up on Thursday with no headache and decided to have a cup of coffee (the pamphlet says you can do this) and drank the first juice. Yesterday was totally different. I felt great all day. Drank my juice every 2 hours. Worked out like usual. The only time my tummy growled was late last night. Also, I was eating really clean for several days before the cleanse started. I hope your next try will go better. I do like the juices for the most part. Not a huge fan of the lemonade and the pbj is a little odd- picture drinking a pbj sandwich. Good luck with the 2 days!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Cameron! Thanks for the insight! I’m hopeful that I’m able to tolerate day 2 and 3! So happy to hear that after that first day you were okay. Did you lose weight? I was hoping to be down a couple of pounds after it! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Cameron says
Make sure to drink a lot of water. I mean I am drinking TONS. I will let you know total weight loss tomorrow morning. I am in the middle of 21 Day Fix ( I think you may do Beachbody workouts as well) so this is day 8 of that.) I am trying to reset, cleanse, lose a few pounds, and tone as well. Somehow without realizing it I gained weight over the winter. UGH. Hoping all of this sets the tone for healthier me. The hardest part for me was when my husband brought home delicious smelling pizza for him and the kids last night bc obviously I am not cooking!
Cameron says
One. Measly. Pound. But I had heard from a lot of people that cleansing does not really lead to weight loss. I do feel “lighter” and less bloated. My measurements have changed since July 1 but that may be due to 21 Day Fix. By the end of Day 3 I was pretty much over it and just wanted to go to bed. Juice 5 and 6 were green and I really had to force the last one down (while holding my nose as my youngest laughed). I did not have any headache after Day 1 and did not cheat at all. Today I have eased back in with fruit. I’m glad I did it! Can’t wait to hear how your day 2 and 3 go.
Gigi says
Okay Ladies, my juice arrived on Friday and I chickened out after Sheaffer’s post and put it in the freezer. I think I’ve worked up the nerve to start tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Diane says
I’m guessing the headache was from the cleanse. I haven’t done this one but I typically do a detox every winter when my autoimmune issues flare up and I feel like crap for the first few days, kind of like having the flu: headache, body aches, tired, sluggish. I typically take activated charcoal, which seems to help. Good luck!
Gigi says
So…………. my cleanse is scheduled to arrive today. Yikes! Praying the next 3 days are headache free!!!! So nervous!

Are the Sole Society wedges $48 or $79? They are listed on the site for the higher price but if they are only $48 I wanna snag them!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Danielle. There seems to be a glitch with the thumbnail pictures and it is reporting everything from Sole Society is that price. They are $79 at this time. So sorry! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
cassie {hi sugarplum} says
I want that terrycloth pj set NOW! You look so young and cute with your juice. And praise GOD for Drew!!! xoxoxo
Narci Dreffs says
Girl, that Black ruffle too and crossbody is precious!!! Love!
Dawn says
I love your comment about the four of you not agreeing on a picture! Every summer, 3 girlfriends and I have a cottage weekend and take lots of pictures. Trying to agree on which filter to use and finding one we can all agree to post is always hilarious!
I’ve done some cleanses and fasts before, and always have a bad headache the first day. I agree with others that I think it’s your body detoxing from caffeine and sugar. Good luck next week!
Ashwini Karnik says
Question on the blardigan..I ordered one yesterday…Is there a way to get a price adjustment once the sale starts? I do not have a Nordstrom card!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Ashwini! The blardigans in the sale will be different colors than the ones that are now available, so they won’t price adjust. My best advice would be to return the one you just purchased and then purchase one of the anniversary sale blardigans at the reduced price. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Courtney Willis says
Thank you so much sister! Appreciate you spreading the word about Mission Regan and the work we are doing! Praying for Drew!
Amanda says
Let me tell you, I was up until 2am (with a 6:30am wake up time) watching the news. As the wife of a law enforcement officer, my heart is breaking. Waiting for those “I’m ok” texts in the midst of a tragedy is the hardest thing. While we haven’t had anything this extreme happen locally in our town (in NC), we’ve had minor things that have kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for that text or phone call to know he is coming home safe.
Prayers to all affected by this tragedy. Loss of life, in any form, is never easy.

Prayers to Minnesota and Louisiana as well
Sheaffer says
Most definitely, Sharon! The entire world needs prayers. May God be near to ALL of the broken-hearted. xoxo, Sheaffer
Sara Kornfield says
Thanks for acknowledging Minnesota and Louisiana as well in your last reply- I know you are close to an offer in Dallas, but I was still surprised to see no mention of Alton Sterling or Philando Castile in your post.

Hi Sheaffer,
I did that exact same cleanse at the end of May and did not make it past day 1. I was miserably hungry and queasy. I thought juices 3 and 6 were unbearable to drink. My good friend successfully finished the cleanse (all the while miserable), and she only lost 1 pound. Totally not worth the misery of the money spent. And there is a lot of research that shows that cleanses aren’t necessary or helpful. Like you, I read the rave reviews on the Jus by Julie site. After experiencing the cleanse myself, I am doubtful of the authenticity of those reviews.
Amy
Sheaffer says
Hi, Amy! There were close to 500 reviews on YELP as well, and a great majority of them were very favorable! I’m going to try it again on Monday…fingers crossed! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jen says
We are birthday twins, and I also had a debilitating headache on Wednesday. It was so bad I couldn’t get out of bed and my husband had to take a sick day and take the kids. Never in my life have I had a headache that bad! Maybe it’s a birthday twin thing.
Also – I did a juice cleanse like that once, and also only made it halfway through the first day even though the juices/smoothies were delicious. I think it’s because I didn’t ease into it for a day or two beforehand.
And – love to all of our country and our world. The only way to combat darkness is with light.
Samantha says
When I read your original post about the cleanse I ordered it. Its’ coming next week. I’m trying to lose 20 lbs. The first 7 came off very easy but it’s been a struggle with the next 3 lbs. I have 10 to go and thought a juice cleanse might help. I’ve never done one before. I’m glad to know in advance that I may get a headache the first day. And I appreciate all the tips. Luckily I have been eating VERY clean for almost 2 months now on my diet so I’m hoping that will help me through the cleanse.
FYI I bought the Barefoot Dreams jersey wrap you had mentioned awhile back. I live in Memphis where it’s ridiculously hot outside so every store, theater, restaurant, church, etc keeps it absolutely freezing cold inside! I keep the wrap in my purse all the time because I always forget to bring a jacket (it’s over 100 outside who thinks of bringing jackets!). I dress for the outdoor temp but then I go inside somewhere and I’m shivering. When I pull it out of my purse it does look like a wrinkled mess but the material hangs very nice and doesn’t look wrinkled when I put it on. It’s also light enough that it doesn’t take up too much room in my purse or weigh a ton to carry around all the time! Just thought you might like to know.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Samantha! I think the clean eating will have totally helped you prepare for the cleanse! I went out to eat at a Mexican food restaurant and drank the night before! Ha! Great tips about the jersey wrap, thanks for sharing. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jessica says
Totally random question. If I apply for a Nordstrom card on July 14th will they give me early access that day? I want the early access and earn the $20 note by spending $100 on the first day you open the card, but I only plan on spending that kind of money at Nordstrom right now during the anniversary sale! Is it usually same day approval?
Sheaffer says
Hi Jessica! Last year I remember that several people did this. Some were granted access that same day, some had to wait a couple of days. I think it just depends. Sorry I’m not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jenny says
Did I miss the post about the Special Moms event?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jenny! I talked about it, but the nominations will start next Friday and last through the weekend! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Becca says
As a police wife, not hearing from your husband is the most helpless feeling. I can sympathize with your cousin and all those families who waited to hear from their loved ones.

The Juice Cleanse: I used this same company for a juice cleanse about two years ago and I loved it. There was one creamy juice that had a vanilla milkshake flavor with a touch of cinnamon, and I was convinced that I wanted that drink every night for dessert for the rest of my life. There was one juice that tasted like mowed grass that I hated, but other than that, I thought it was very manageable. I was happy I did the cleanse, and it was only the first day that I was really hungry. Your body just gets used to it and adapts. I worked all three days of my cleanse and didn’t feel cranky or mean, which was a definite fear when I began. 🙂
Love the cleanse, love the company! Hope you have great success!
