Hey there, it’s Carmel from Our Fifth House, and I’m thrilled to be included in this Closet Confessions series! I believe every space deserves to be stylish, and I especially believe in the power of a well styled closet. A pretty space motivates you to keep that space clean, neat and organized……….at least it does for me……..mostly. 😉 I won’t pretend my closet looks this orderly all the time, but most of the time at least.

I agree with you 100% on this. I cleaned out my closet several months ago and organized it REALLY well…and it’s still clean! Usually I clean it, step back and admire my work, and then it looks like FEMA should come in by the end of the next week.
But a REALLY good cleaning and organization made me work hard to keep it looking good!
Welcome to my closet. It’s not huge, but it is a decent size walk-in. I have to share it with my clothes-loving man (yes, they do exist), so staying organized is the key to the success of our marriage to keeping it from utter chaos.
As you can see from the photo above, we share our closet space pretty evenly. My man gets the top rack, and I get the bottom.
I installed a drapery rod to use for my hubs collection of ties, and I gave our basic shoe shelves a little campaign-style update with the help of a gold sharpie.
Carmel. I have no words.
You made ties look like art, and you made an inexpensive shoe shelf look like furniture.
Color me jealous impressed.

I make the most of our relatively small closet footprint by using as much of the vertical space as possible.
This molding shoe shelf is pure genius. You should have a blog. Oh wait…
To give our closet a little bit of fun I used a bunch of fabric scraps to “wall paper” one wall.

What is the item in your closet that you have the most of?
I have quite a lot of animal print………shoes, belts, skirts, scarves, blouses, purses………I’m a big time fan of animal print. Leopard is after all a neutral…..am I right?! I shared this shot on instagram a few months ago…………..who you callin’ an animal print lover? 😉 Clearly I’m obsessed!

What is the single most worn item in your closet?
Right now this black romper from Old Navy is in heavy rotation. It goes with everything and is super comfy. I even wore it on a recent trip to Disney World.

But I’d have to say, the single most worn item of all time would have to be my Old Navy Rockstar skinny jeans. I literally wear them all. the. time.

If everybody that knows Andrea listens closely, I’m pretty sure we can hear her choking on her hot tea and subsequently ordering some converse for her and Griffin and calling her monogram lady on speed dial. Seriously, I give her until the end of the day.

I’ve literally had these short UGG boots since before my kids were born. I think I got them right after I got married………which was almost 14 years ago! These boots have seen me through a lot – ha! (And yes, even my workout wear is in animal print! I told you it was an obsession!)
I don’t own a pair of UGGs. Actually, I should probably say that I don’t own a pair of UGGs YET.

I tried on THIS pair of jeans from the Junior’s department, and I think they would be perfect for tall boots and tunic tops and sweaters. They are very body conscious, and would tuck very nicely into tall boots without any jean scrunching.

Wow, Carmel, your closet is fantastic. I have seen moulding/bars/etc used as shoe racks but wasn't sure how well it works. Is it silly to ask if you have problems with the shoes falling off?

I bought those STS jeans and love them! I tried on the skinny cargos, too, but they looked funny on me. I wanted to love them because the fabric was so soft, and I loved the color, but they were a no go. I'm going to the website to check out the v neck with arm patches now! 🙂

Sheaffer my Blardigan came in the mail yesterday and OH MY WORD it is amazing! Feels like heaven and seriously looks so stinking good on! I got the cocoa midnight….I am picturing it with black tank, black leggings, black booties, and gold accessories. Chic and comfy! My blardigan came yesterday and I LOVE it!!! I do have a question about it though…I'm 5'3 so a bit on the short side and it barely covers my bottom. In the pictures it looks way longer than what I received, do you think it's possible mine is defective? It's pretty long in the front and I could wear leggings underneath but I feel like I would constantly be pulling it down to make sure my backside is covered. Thoughts?

Hmmmmm. Mine is definitely shorter in the back, but I would always wear something long enough with it underneath that I didn't feel like I always had to worry about tugging things down. Hope this helps!

I have gotten so many great home ideas from Carmel over the years – her gold polka dot ceiling, gold rub n buff to jazz up standard accessories, I even took a page from her mantle and wrapped a jaunty scarf around our own animal head, "Big Horn," because hers was so festive. I was so happy to see the oversized grey sweater on your blog today! I had already ordered and received it for my 20 y.o. daughter. Great minds think alike!!! It is beautiful in person. I ordered a "small" and it fit me perfectly and I normally wear an 8. I do all my shopping online and I've found that Nordstrom's True Fit has been a game changer! It's way more fun getting the right size the first try!! It is spot on especially when ordering jeans/pants! It will not only suggest a size but on a scale of 1-5 stars of how well it will fit YOUR body style. Helpful when switching between clothes w/junior sizing versus womens. I don't know if this has ever been addressed. but do you find that the same size blardigan fits differently in different colors? I got both a cocoa/midnight & cocoa/white in small. The midnight one is much shorter and seems to fit better. I noticed on pictures you've posted that the cocoa/white is somewhat longer on you too. Just wondered if you've noticed that or not? I really like the cocoa/white but it just doesn't fit as well 🙁

Hi Susanne! I had never noticed that, but looking at the pictures it seems that you might be on to something! Sorry I'm not more help. If you wash it and dry it all the way on hot it might shrink up just a bit for you!

I just had to tell you that I washed the cocoa/white blardigan on hot and then dried it on high until it was super dry and it did shrink up–quite a lot actually. It fits so much better and is not as long! Just wanted to post this so other people know that the blardigan will definitely shrink (if you want it to!)
