Today’s post is sponsored by Walmart and ShopStyle. The product selections are my own, and I only highlight and promote pieces that I truly love. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Sheaffer Told Me To!
Y’all, it’s the last week of July, which makes me want to bawl.
The end of the July means Summer is coming to an end, and I’m just not ready to see it go. During the Summer we stay up late, we sleep late, we do tons of fun stuff with friends and family, you’ll always find us grilling out and in the pool, and we go to the ranch a lot. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…WE ARE GOOD AT SUMMER.
I know that some mamas crave the schedules and the routine that going back to school brings, but I am NOT one of those mamas. I much prefer the pace of summer without any reasons to stick to bedtimes and deadlines. Still, it’s coming, and no amount of kicking and screaming is going to delay it. And just to be clear, the kicking and screaming is mostly from me. Ha!
SO. I’m going to start getting my act together around here! Last week I focused on some NEW BACK TO SCHOOL OUTFITS for Carter, and I’m excited to share them with y’all today. We’re lucky this year that his backpack, lunchbox, and water bottles are all still in great shape. And we purchased his 5th grade school supplies in a bundle from the school at the end of the school year (ALL THE PRAISE HANDS), so we are good to go there too.
All he needs this year is a shoe and wardrobe refresh! He’s grown quite a bit recently, so almost all of his current clothes are a wee bit small. Enter, Walmart and their GO BACK BIG campaign! Walmart is going to help make the dreaded transition back to school as easy as possible for mamas and as painless (and fun!) for kids as they can.
Let’s all GO BACK BIG!
BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHES THAT WE BOTH LOVE
When you are basically replacing an entire wardrobe, the prices need to be good. And while I don’t enjoy shopping for folders with 1 pocket and 3 brads, binders with no pockets and a 1 1/2″ ring, a 7 pack of clear glue sticks, and hand sanitizer without alcohol (WHY MUST SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS BE SO SPECIFIC???)…I do in fact enjoy shopping for clothes for the little man!
Luckily, the only real opinion that Carter has about his clothes right now is that they are as comfy as possible. Sure, there are a couple of popular brands that he likes, but his main focus is comfort. Which I of course appreciate.
I found a line of clothes for him at Walmart that we both love, and I cannot believe the prices. If you have young children in your home, I strongly encourage you to check out the Wonder Nation selection.
The pieces are cute, comfy, well made, and well-priced!
v neck tee / hoodie / pull on shorts / sneakers
You know how the not much more time for fun panic always sets in at the end of Summer? We started feeling it last week, so we headed to Top Golf.
We love to go there as a family, and the little guy has improved so much since we first started going, and he’s now got a good little swing. He also loves the arcade downstairs, which made the perfect colorful backdrop for me to grab a couple of pics of him in his new duds.

Carter is pretty easy on his clothes, but he has friends whose mamas complain of holes in the knees of jeans and busted out toes of shoes. For those of you whose kiddos grow like weeds or destroy their clothes when playing, y’all are going to love the price point of this line.
This tee is on sale for ONLY $4, the hoodie is on sale for ONLY $6, the pull-on shorts (gotta love elastic!) are under $9, and the sneakers are under $16!
He comes by his love of elastic waistbands honestly. The apple doesn’t fall far, y’all.
All the clothes and the shoes are true to size.
v neck tee / hoodie / pull on shorts / sneakers
These sneakers are just UNDER $16, so I know they will appeal to those of you that are constantly replacing them because of wear and tear, or just because your kiddo’s feet are growing like crazy!
I grabbed these sneakers for Carter because I liked the look of them, and luckily he loves the comfort level. They are very lightweight, and do you see the heel? That’s like a thick band of elastic, so they fit like a glove! They also come in toddler sizes HERE.

I think the clothes are cute, and Carter thinks they are comfy, so that’s a WIN!

So about a week after Top Golf, we planned a full day of fun with some friends. Yep, full blown panic had started to set in.
First we headed to Urban Air so Ben and Carter (soccer buddies) could hang out. They played trampoline dodge ball for 2 1/2 hours straight. Sara (Ben’s mama and my friend) and I just parked ourselves at one of the tables and made sure we laid eyes on the kids every half hour or so. They had a fantastic time.

We broke up to do some errands for a bit and eat dinner at home, but then we met back up at the movies to see Toy Story 4. Carter’s love language is the McKinney Movie House and Eatery, but we convinced him to try the new Cinemax this time (to save a couple of bucks). To be honest, we both missed the Movie House. He loves the comfortable seats, the chicken strips and fries, and the ranch. I love the soft pretzels with the cheese dipping sauce. Just purely fyi.

In between the trampoline park and the movies, we headed out on the front porch to grab some pics. It’s the same outfit as when we went to Top Golf the week before, but we just switched up the colors! Instead of a blue tee with grey shorts, now he’s wearing a grey tee with blue shorts.
Here’s the deal…If Carter finds clothes that he deems comfy enough for everyday wear, I like to grab multiple colors if possible. I got all 4 colors of the shorts, so we are just going to be mixing all the tees and shorts for lots of different outfit combinations.
This is going to be his “uniform”.
In addition to starting to panic and pack in all the fun, this is also about the time every Summer we start having conversations again about school and what the most important things are to always remember.
We of course want Carter to get good grades, but we focus more on the amount of effort put forth, the attitude, and the consistency.
We also always emphasize respect for teachers and kindness towards other kids. Kindness is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING we can teach our children, and they learn the most by watching us. That’s some pressure, mamas! Let’s all lead by example!

Like I said, Carter thankfully didn’t need any lunch or school supplies, but I did pick up some more clothing basics that he needed desperately:
*this 10 pack of socks (We lose socks like it’s our dang job over here.)
*two 4 pack packages of undies
*this rain jacket in Sooner red that’s on sale for ONLY $12 (Carter is on Safety Patrol at school and definitely needed a new raincoat.)

Also, just because the kid sometimes has to wear pants with a button or zipper or a shirt with a collar, here are some other things I grabbed for him. Maybe we’ll snap some pics of him in these things for a future post. He wore the blue shorts and the navy shirt to a family reunion a couple of weeks ago and looked so sharp!

And really, don’t worry mamas! Whatever it is that we need for our kiddos, we can most probably find it at Walmart. Their inventory is huge, they have free shipping on orders $35 or more, and let’s not forget about their free curbside pick up service! Let Walmart be your 1 stop shop for all things BACK TO SCHOOL! Let’s GO BACK BIG!

And last thing, did you happen to catch my post yesterday? It was with Walmart as well, and I featured a pair of side striped jeans that were super fun to style, so I did so 2 ways! Hop over to the post to see me style them with a plain white tee (which happens to be my favorite plain white tee from any retailer) and black slide sandals, and with a denim jacket in look #2 for a full-on denim on denim fashion statement. I took a fashion risk on the post, and I ended up liking it!
A huge thank you to Walmart and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

Please excuse me while I cry a minute over the fact that our kids are going into 5th grade. Sheaffer! Weren’t they just babies?!?

My son is like yours and won’t wear things if they aren’t comfy. My daughter either, actually! Totally grabbing those tees and shorts in all colors too. Thanks for the idea.

Carter could just not be any cuter! The girls are going to be chasing after him…if they’re not already!

Walmart has definitely stepped up their game….Carter is getting so big and is such a trooper for taking pictures. Now if Walmart would only start to make some of these shoes for adults we’d be golden. Have you seen some of the girls shoes…so cute!!
Kim says
Amy I bought a pair of girls Wal Mart block heel suede sandals yesterday for ME—if you wear a small shoe size you can do it!! Girls size 5=Women’s size 7.

This is off-topic from this blog post, and maybe you address this along time ago, and I didn’t see it, but you haven’t been posting about this season’s bachelorette and I’m just curious as to why!?!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Deanna! I just took the summer off, I’ll be back for the next season! xoxo

You asked why school supply lists have to be so specific. As a retired teacher let me try to explain. Glue sticks just walk away or lids get lost and they dry up. A binder with particular size rings? Teachers are making multiple copies of papers for students, it will be more efficient and students will be better organized if binders are the same size. Many classrooms have limited storage space. Teachers have learned what they need to make the best of that space.
Having said all that, I recognize that some supply lists are ridiculous. My biggest want as a kindergarten teacher? Decent pencils. The cheap ones won’t sharpen and they break easily. Do you have any idea how LONG it takes a 5-6 year old to sharpen a pencil? Multiply that by 20 students in a class and it is a wonder anything else gets done. In my kindergarten, I kept sharpened pencils in a can to grab, and students just had to trade in their broken one. (By the way, there is no pencil that can compare to Ticonderoga ones, they are the best!)
