$500 WARDROBE BASICS from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
Let’s start off with a question from Monday’s post. Do you remember Sarah’s question?
I’m not a cardholder, but I’ve got $500 to spend once everybody can shop! I’m loving all your posts, but I’m having the hardest time deciding what to get. I’m a stay at home mom with two little ones under 3, so it’s a lot of time on the floor and running around town with them. I really just want to get a ton of basics that can kind of be a capsule wardrobe for fall and winter. What do you recommend?
Thanks for the great question Sarah! This was a really fun challenge for me! Now, full disclosure, my math skills need work. Apparently the below collage totals $526.90. OOPS. I picked my collage items carefully and thought my total was $503, well apparently I had left the scarf off when trying to get to my total. I didn’t notice until the collage was already made. So, the basics below are $500+ a scarf. Me getting the math wrong is SO me. Sorry, y’all!
Every single thing in this collage is a wonderful basic that can be mixed and matched. Even though some of the items are higher priced (like the denim jacket and the blardigan), I fully believe you will wear them so stinkin’ much they will be MORE THAN WORTH IT. I picked booties that I didn’t personally buy, only because they were $20 cheaper. However, I think they are very cute! I love the studs!
I’m telling you, everything in this collage will be a work horse in your wardrobe.
1. fleece tunic / 2. ankle jeans (I got the petite!) / 3. basic white tee / 4. relaxed black tee / 5. must have denim jacket / 6. black sneakers / 7. hooded blardigan / 8. studded booties / 9. blush tee / 10. long sleeve striped tee / 11. joggers (plus size joggers HERE) / 12. scarf

Now let’s move on to some NEW items/outfits!
Outfit #1
First up, this short sleeved turtleneck sweater in a fiery red!
Now, you’ve seen these jeans in lots of other outfits I’ve already shown…and you saw this sweater in grey when I was trying on things in the Nordstrom dressing room, but I decided to order the red for myself!
I loved the vibrant red with the dark wash of the jeans and the leopard clutch! I’ve had this clutch for about a year or so now, I get so many compliments on it, and it’s ONLY $45!
Sizing Tips: I’m wearing my regular small in the sweater and it’s still quite roomy, so size down if you don’t want it quite so relaxed. I’m wearing a 4P in the jeans because I wanted them to hit me mid ankle. The booties are true to size.
short sleeve turtleneck sweater /leopard clutch/ earrings /wit and wisdom ankle jeans / cognac heeled booties
This short sleeved sweater is super soft, it comes in 5 total colors, and I love the slouchy turtleneck.
If you’ve been following the blog for awhile, you know I’ve been a loyal fan of Wit and Wisdom for several years now and their Ab-solution technology. They have lots of jeans in the sale this year, but these dark wash ankle jeans are one of my favorites. I went with the 4P (I’m 5’4″) because I wanted them to be perfect for booties, and I like when a tiny bit of skin peeks out from in between the top of the boot and the bottom hem of your jeans.
These are ONLY $44.90!
Outfit #2
Next, these camo skinny cargo pants. When I photographed these pants on Tuesday, they seemed to be pretty fully stocked. When I was linking everything last night, most sizes were sold out. I’M HOPING LIKE CRAZY FOR A RESTOCK FOR Y’ALL. But if they don’t come back in camo, they do come in a plain olive green.
Sizing Reference: I sized up to a medium in the tee (for a relaxed fit), I sized up to a medium in the jacket, and I’m wearing a 27P in the pants (and I’m almost 5’4″). The booties are true to size.
white tee / short necklace / long leather tassel necklace / must have denim jacket / camo pants / cognac booties / frye bags in sale this year
I will talk about this denim jacket until my dying breath. I named it a must have almost 5 years ago, and I still reach for it ALL. THE. TIME. #youmusthaveit It’s not part of the sale, but you must have it. It’s stretchy, comfy, and can be worn during all seasons.
white tee / short necklace / long leather tassel necklace / must have denim jacket / camo pants
The booties are a perfect cognac color, and I love the buckle and tassel detailing. They are a great height, comfy, and true to size.
I loved the whole outfit.
And then I switched it up a bit here. I took off the white tee and jacket and subbed in the grey fleece (which is one of my Top 10 items from the sale). I have on my regular small, and it’s still roomy, so size down if between sizes.
grey fleece/ long leather tassel necklace / must have denim jacket / camo pants / cognac booties / frye bags in sale this year
And a close up of the pants. The reviews are mixed in these, but I really like them! They are a bit higher waisted than I would like them to be, but that’s the only complaint I have. I had to go with the petite, because at 5’4″ the regulars were realllllly long on me.
Outfit #3
One more new outfit that I’ll photograph for my post next Friday, but you get to see the outfit plan today!
I have a regular 4 in the jeans, but I would size down if between sizes. I sized up to a medium in the shirt, but I pretty much always size up in button up shirts. The shirt is quite thin, but I liked how it was super light weight.
Madewell plaid shirt / boot cut jeans / leopard clutch / cognac booties / necklace / earrings / blingy bracelets

NOW IT’S TIME FOR A REVIEW OF OTHER FAVORITE ITEMS THAT ARE STILL IN STOCK!
Starting with…
MY TOP 3 EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Favorite Find #1: Natori Briefs
THESE UNDIES. Get them. NOW. #itsforyourowngood
Fyi: They are called “girl briefs”, but they are for women!
OOOOOOHHHHHHHHEMMMMMMMMMMMMGEEEEEEEEE. The ONLY UNDERWEAR I WEAR now are these in the sale and these Soma no line undies. Even if you wear thongs during the day, you should totally wear one of these choices at night. Seriously, y’all. THESE ARE GOOD. A big ol’ high five to the readers that suggested I try them a couple of years ago. Here’s how it’s going to go: you are going to first order between 1-3 pairs….and then slowly but surely you will replace your entire underwear drawer.
And just for fun, let’s just pretend that that’s me in the graphic below.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Favorite Find #2: Natori Bra
Another essential is this bra.
If you don’t have one, GET IT NOW. You’ll thank me, and your girls will thank me. It’s the best bra I’ve ever owned. I named it a MUST HAVE a couple of years ago, and I know soooo many of you are believers now too! If you doubt me, just check out the online reviews! The cups are perfectly rounded, it has just the right amount of lining, and the material is oh so comfy. And look how pretty the straps are! I know the price might be shocking to some of you, BUT TRUST ME. Just try it, and I promise that you will feel badly for mistreating your boobies all these years.
Click HERE for the bra! If you are a smaller chested gal, THIS IS THE ONE to get. Smaller chested ladies swear by it and the reviews are fantastic.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Favorite Find #3: The Blardigan
If you aren’t a cardholder, I know you’ve been holding your breath that a blardigan would still be available during Public Access! It’s quite simply the most cozy item you will EVER put on your body.
The baby blardigan is pretty much sold out…but the hooded blardigan is still available! The cut, the fit, the hood, and the pockets are all great! And I know a lot of you have commented in the past that the arms are snug on the other blardigans, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem with this one!
I hear that a lot of ladies like the hooded blardigan the most. It’s the longest (totally long enough to be worn with leggings), it’s hem is straight across, it has a hood (duh), and it has pockets too. I wear this one when I want to be cozy at home, and I wear it around town.
Sizing Tips: I’m wearing the x-small/small.
hooded blardigan / white tee / earrings /star necklace/ wit and wisdom jeans / adidas sneakers/ no show socks
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Favorite Find #4: Zella Leggings
Last thing under Everyday Essentials. HIGH WAISTED LEGGINGS fom Zella. Once you wear them, you will be sooooo annoyed when you have to put on the regular waisted ones. In fact, you’ll find yourself doing laundry just so you don’t have to wear those stupid non-high waisted leggings. Seriously.
Click HERE for all of the high waisted leggings in the sale (different lengths, colors, and designs).
But if you get only one pair, get the basic black.
I already have 2 pairs of the basic black, so this year I got the grey cropped!
I ADORE THESE HIGH WAISTED CROP LEGGINGS. They come up above my belly button, and they suck me in like crazy, while somehow still allowing me to breathe and be 100% comfortable. THEY ARE MAGIC. Once I tried the high waisted option, I have never purchased the regular rise again.
SIZING TIPS: I’m wearing a small in both the sweatshirt and the leggings. I normally size up in Zella tops, but I didn’t have to this time.
sweatshirt / high waisted crop leggings/ no show socks / adidas sneakers
And here’s the side by side so you can see the huge waistband. #itgetsthejobdone

MY BEST OF THE BEST SALE ITEMS THAT ARE STILL IN STOCK
Several of my favorites this year have already sold out (I’m looking at you Caslon wedge sneakers and Adidas sneakers), but I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see other favorites of mine seem to be holding stock! I want to review these IN STOCK items for you now so you aren’t wasting time with items that only have 1 size and/or color available.
ZELLA JOGGERS
I cannot believe these joggers are still in stock (although I saw two sizes disappear between yesterday morning and late last night). Also, I didn’t realize this before, but they come in plus size too.
Look how cute they are with a white tee and my must have denim jacket! (Click HERE for a jacket that is similar and in the sale.) I think the joggers are so flattering on. I got my regular small, but others are suggesting to size up for a more relaxed fit.
white tee/ denim jacket / joggers / adidas sneakers
And here’s the picture for those of you that prefer the side by side.
white tee/ denim jacket / joggers / adidas sneakers
SOFT CASHMERE PONCHO
This poncho is luxurious. It’s just plain yummy.
It comes in this beige or a grey color blocking, and it’s just so dang chic! It’s regularly $149, but the SALE PRICE is just under $100! It is completely open on the sides, and I will put it up on stories today so you can see exactly what I mean.
Sizing Tips: The poncho is one size fits all, I sized up to a 28 in the jeans, and the wedge sneakers are true to size.
cashmere poncho/ white tee / earrings / star necklace / AG jeans / wedge sneakers
SNAP WRAP/ WATERFALL CARDI
This wrap thing was a departure for me, but I’m so glad I tried it. I know lots of you are going to absolutely freaking love it.
The site is calling it a “jacket”, but I think of it as more as a wrap/cardi combo. You can wear it snapped close (the snap is up by the neck), or you can wear it open like a waterfall cardi. It drapes beautifully worn both ways, the fabric is soft and dreamy, AND IT HAS POCKETS. Look for it to be shown on instagram stories today! It also comes in black and a merlot.
I’m definitely going to try to style this with tall boots and the Spanx faux leather leggings I ordered from the sale (lots of people are talking about the camo ones too)!
Sizing Tips: I’m wearing a small in the wrap and there is plenty of room. I’m wearing a 4P in the jeans and the booties are true to size.
wrap cardi combo / basic white tee/ earrings /short necklace/wit and wisdom ankle jeans / cognac heeled booties
COZY FLEECE TUNIC
The nice people over at Gibson sent me this as a sneak peek before the sale went live, and I knew it would be a crowd favorite for sure. Gibson does COZY FLEECE sooooo well.
The grey is a great basic, but I’m totally crushing on the gorgeous magenta color (and I included it in the $500 challenge collage)! It comes in 6 total colors, so there’s something for everybody. I love both the high low hem and the exposed center seams.
Sizing Tips: I’m wearing a small, and there’s plenty of room. If you want it more fitted, I suggest sizing down. I’m wearing my regular 4s in the jeans (size down if between sizes) and the booties are true to size.
And good news! This top comes in plus size top!
cozy fleece tunic courtesy of Gibson/earrings / kut from the kloth jeans / cognac heeled booties
Ladies. Pay attention here.
Wit and Wisdom Itty Bitty Boot Cut Jeans
These have been a favorite of mine going on three years now. Here’s what I love most about these jeans: I truly feel like they make me look 2 inches taller and 10 pounds thinner. Um, YES PLEASE. I pulled an old pic, and if you are on the fence, you are going to need to TRUST ME on these. They are so good.
I’m wearing a 4 Regular in these boot cut jeans. I’m almost 5’4″, wearing a heeled bootie, and they are the perfect length for me. I think the picture on the site makes these jeans look terrible. It seems that the very tall model is wearing a petite, and man is it all wrong.
These jeans are truly awesome. And get ready, girls! Based upon a conversation I had with a follower over last weekend on instagram, my entire post next Friday is going to be outfits with just different Wit and Wisdom jeans!

NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE SHOE REVIEW
I bought 4 pair of shoes in the sale this year when I went shopping on opening day. Two of them are pretty much sold out (the Adidas sneakers and the Caslon wedge sneakers)…but two are still available! And I love both of them!
HEELED BOOTIES
The color of these booties were what initially drew me to them (but they come in 2 other colors as well). Last year my heeled booties were taupe, and they were a bit dressier, so I was super pumped to find these. I love the height the heel gives, but they are comfy and super easy to walk in.
These were true to size for me.
Click HERE for the heeled booties.
FLAT ANKLE BOOTIES
I always get a pair of relatively flat ankle booties. I tried on several pairs this year, but these were head and shoulders above the rest! They also come in black. They are VERY comfy and will be great for both Fall and Spring. I love this neutral color, the deep cut out (so flattering), and the dimension that the design gives.
I recommend sizing down a 1/2 size in these.
Click HERE for the flat ankle booties. Mine are the “foxy” color.
HEELED BOOTIES
I didn’t get these for myself because I still love my Vince Camuto heeled booties from the sale last year….BUT THESE ARE GOOD Y’ALL. If you need a dressy bootie, look no further. The heel is definitely thinner than last year’s version, but they are still comfy. Size down a 1/2 size in these.
TALL BOOTS
I’ve had people ask me about tall boots, and there aren’t many to choose from in the sale this year.
I saw these in person, tried them on, and loved them…I just didn’t need them because I still love my tall boots from last year.

MY FAVORITE SALE FIND HAS RETURNED!
I don’t know how I missed this, but one of my absolute favorites from last year is IN THE SALE!
This baby is lined with a fleece like material that is crazy soft (and warm), it has a small cowl neck that drapes beautifully, and the back has these pretty little feminine pleats that give the top a lot of style.
It comes in 2 other colors, and I’m wearing a small. It’s definitely over sized, but let’s be frank, that’s what I was pretty much looking for. The sizing does seem a little more roomy this year, so you might consider sizing down.
I truly cannot say enough about how soft and comfy this top is. And you really need to see what the back looks like(with the tiny little pleats!).

LET’S TALK BEAUTY SALE PICKS!
A NEULASH VALUE PACK IS IN THE SALE and STILL IN STOCK!
The pic on the left is of my sister’s lashes. She’s the one who told me I HAD to start using Neulash. The picture on the right is me. I received several DMs wanting to see MY lashes after showing my sister’s so often, so here you go! Even though I haven’t showered and I’m wearing a nightgown and a men’s fleece, I threw on some eye makeup to show y’all!
I’m not as diligent as I should be about using the Neulash, but I’ve still had great results!
My Bobbi Brown pallette and my GloPro Microneedling tool (2 of the VERY BEST VALUES IN THE SALE!) arrived last night, and I can’t wait to start using them today!
That’s it for the items today ladies! Let’s all have a glass of wine and take a nap!!!! SHOPPING IS HARD! SPECIAL MAMA GIVEAWAY!
Today is the day to nominate for the Special Mama Giveaway! If you’ve been reading for awhile, you know that every year I take a very special mom (a mom of a child with special needs) on a $1,000 shopping spree to Nordstrom during the Anniversary Sale!!!!! Well, after many requests to do so, I’m now going to open it up to special mom’s everywhere! In year’s past you had to be local so I could take you shopping, but this year, I’m just going to send a $1,000 Nordstrom gift card to the winner!
So…enter your friend, your sister, your neighbor, yourself……..JUST ENTER! All you have to do is leave a comment with the mama’s name you would like to nominate. You can just say her name, or you can leave a tribute of sorts telling her why you think she’s so special!
Let’s celebrate these VERY SPECIAL MAMAS! The winner will be announced next Friday, and I will immediately send an electronic gift card!
These are the first previous 4 winners. I’m so excited to add a 5th face to this very special winner’s circle!!!
{Here’s a little background: While working in the schools as a speech therapist, I really developed a heart for the moms of the kids I served. These mamas were completely selfless, and their dedication to their children was a beautiful and inspiring thing to witness. They rarely treated themselves to anything because their sole focus was always on their kiddos. I had the privilege of observing these moms for years, and because one of my student’s mom recommended doing something like this years ago (love you, Candace!), I now treat a very special mom a couple of times a year. Goodness knows these moms deserve a little something special!}
GOOD LUCK, EVERYBODY!!!!
Jennifer Alfonso says
Thank you Sheaffer for all you do! I love reading your blog and have many staples in my closet because of you 🙂
For the Special Mama Giveaway: it feels kinda selfish nominating myself but here it goes 🙂
My now 18 year old son, Vincent, has autism. Vincent was diagnosed with autism in 2003 when he was 2 1/2 years old. Back then, a lot wasn’t really known about autism. My husband and I tried to find our way through the massive puzzle of autism. It was difficult. At the time, we also had our newborn daughter, Olivia. To say that we were stressed is quite an understatement.
When Vincent was 3 years old, he was enrolled in a Special Education Preschool at our local public school. There he received speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and specialized instruction. All his teachers were amazing and Vincent slowly started to catch up developmentally.
When Vincent was 5 years old, my husband and I made the decision that we wanted Vincent to be enrolled in a general education kindergarten class versus a special day classroom. We believed that he could be pushed academically and socially in a general education environment. At his Individual Education Plan (IEP), half the team believed Vincent wasn’t ready and the other half (us and his classroom teacher) pushed for general education. Vincent was enrolled in a general education kindergarten class that fall.
Vincent being in general education was not easy. It was hard. Sometimes it was frustrating. A lot of work went into making sure his needs were met. Every school year, I would ask to meet with his classroom teacher early so I could explain his diagnosis and we would discuss what strategies worked best for Vincent. Homework took us twice as long. Vince was happy and did very well in general education. In fact, he far exceeded any of our expectations. Sure he wasn’t the brightest student in the classroom but he held his own and was very happy.
Only once in his academic career did a general education teacher suggest to us that maybe Vincent would do better in a Specialized Classroom. Her reasoning being that in a Specialized Classroom, all the teachers were trained in autism and could provide more support. I must admit, that hurt. As a parent of a child with special needs, my first thought was the teacher didn’t want my son in her classroom. Really there was no indication that Vince should move classrooms. After my initial hurt feelings were set aside, I realized that the teacher was just afraid of Vince’s diagnosis of autism. Together with the site educational specialist, we helped provide support and guidance to his teacher.
Fast forward to today. Vincent just graduated from high school. It seems surreal when I think back to when we first started on this journey. In the beginning, I cried a lot out of fear, frustration and anxiety. Now I find myself crying out of happiness and relief. Vincent’s very first IEP goal was how to eat from a spoon. Vincent now has a 3.2 GPA and walked with his classmates to get his high school diploma on June 13, 2018.
Just recently, we learned that Vincent was accepted into the College 2 Career Program at the San Diego Community College District. It is a specialized program that provides students with tools needed to complete college coursework and prepare for employment. We are beyond excited that Vincent will be attending Mesa College in the fall. Again, when we first started this journey, we had no idea where this would end.
Vincent is a success story. He is an example of how a team worked together to ensure his academic success in spite of his diagnosis of autism. It was a team that consisted of school (San Diego Unified School District), community (San Diego Regional Center) and my family that supported Vincent throughout the years. Every single person at school from his classroom teachers to his bus drivers and everyone else in between (education specialists, speech therapists, specialized education aids, school nurses, principals, and his classmates) played a huge role in his academic success.
I am so lucky to be his mom!
Sheaffer says
Jennifer! This is not selfish at all! You are a wonderful mama to a wonderful son, and you deserve to be entered!!!! Good luck and congratulations to Vincent! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sarah Kelly Brown says
Beverly Kelly!
My mom is a rockstar. She is a mom of 4 (3 of us are adults but the baby is 10 years old), grandma of 1 (so far), wonderful wife and daughter. She takes care of her family all while homeschooling my sister, running her own business, taking care of my elderly grandparents (who recently moved in with my parents), and volunteering much of her time to her church and local foster care. She has also beat cancer twice along with other health issues. She doesn’t take nearly enough time for herself but totally deserves to!
Thanks for all the Nordstrom picks.. ordering today! 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi, Sarah! Your mom sounds awesome! I often wonder how somebody can balance so much. Only with God and amazing family support! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Shaye Dodson says
I would like to nominate my sister, Natalie. I am the older sister but I definitely look to her as my role model. She had 2 premature babies, the second one who was severely special needs. He was born at 24 weeks & only weighed 1 lb. & 13 oz. He was in the NICU for 6 months & even after he came home, he spent most of the first 3 years of his life in & out of the hospital or he was home bound. Even during this difficult time my sister & her husband decided to adopt a little girl. So for the past 6 years she has been at home taking care of the 3 of them & this fall, she is finally able to return to work now that all 3 of them will be in school. She is a school teacher & is excited to be back in the classroom but after staying home for the past 6 years, 3 of which she was home bound with her son, her wardrobe is lacking. This shopping trip would not only help her feel good about getting back in the work force but it would also be a special trip just for her & something she more than deserves. Thank you for considering her!
Sheaffer says
Natalie sounds amazing! Wonderful nomination, Shaye!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Melodie says
My friend Donna Thomas who is mommy to a little down syndrome girl from China. They felt the call to a special needs adoption after raising 3 girls and becoming empty nesters.
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the nomination, Melodie! Donna sounds very deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sunna O says
I would like to nominate my neighbor and friend Janice Smith. She has 6 kids and 2 step kids and the youngest one, who’s just turned three, has special needs. She is a wonderful and completely selfless mama who does everything for her kids. With a big home like that she doesn’t have a lot of downtime and I’m sure she would enjoy a shopping spree at Nordstrom. I would have to go with her to make sure she buys something for herself and not just stuff for her kids 🙂
Thanks for hosting this!
Sheaffer says
Yes, Sunna! So many of these deserving mamas need to treat themselves!!! Janice sounds awesome! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Alison B. says
I nominate my sister, Jennifer. She has an autistic son. She has many challenging days and she would be so deserving of this shopping spree! Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Alison! Thanks for the nomination. Jennifer sounds very deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Margaret says
I don’t have a special mama to nominate but I want to say these ladies above are ALL winners in my book!!
My winner from the sale are the Wit and Wisdom skinny ankle jeans which I got in 2 colors!
I also got the skinny cargo pants in olive and really wanted to love them but didn’t. The flaps on the back pockets were just too big. So back they go and the search continues for a pair of olive pants/jeans with good back pockets-hopefully to be found before school starts!
Chelsey says
Sheaffer, I used to work in the lingerie department at Dillard’s and SWEAR BY Wacoal, Natori, and Chantel! I always grab some during the anniversary sale because generally those brands don’t go on sale unless the item is going bye bye. Huge believer in “you get what you pay for” and I don’t like skimping when it comes to the girls! And I think I’m going to finally try those undies!
Kathryn says
I want to nominate my friend Marian DeMott, who is a mom of four (girl 17, boys 16, 13, 11). Her 13-year-old son has Cystic Fibrosis, which requires dozens of pills and supplements daily along with breathing treatments. CF doesn’t give the parents or the patients days off – you have to be vigilant every single day in order to manage the disease. Even then, sometimes it gets ahead of you, requiring hospitalizations, but [knock on wood] he hasn’t been in the hospital lately. She and her husband have to live with the fact that their child has a life-threatening illness, but their faith is super strong. Marian is the most GENEROUS person on the planet, always doing for others, and never ever complains. Her oldest child is about to be a senior in high school, and her second (who has a peanut allergy that they have to be careful about!) is a junior, so the next couple of years will be busier than ever, and certainly more costly. It would be fabulous for her to have this neat opportunity to get some new, fun pieces for her wardrobe, and it would give a boost to a very busy, loving, faith-filled, and SPECIAL mama. Thanks Sheaffer!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kathryn! Marian sounds like an incredible mama and human. Thanks heavens for their faith! xoox, Sheaffer 🙂
Andrea Tillotson says
Nominating: well, I’m nominating myself. I’m a Stay at home mom and the mom to a 13 yr old with autism. He’s a great kid, but every day is a challenge. With therapies, Dr visits, etc., there’s not much left for shopping. Most of my clothes are from Wal-Mart.
This would be a treat, to say the least. Thanks for your consideration.
Sheaffer says
HI, Andrea! What you just said is exactly why I started this giveaway. All of you special mamas give everything you have to your precious kids, and you rarely have anything left for yourself. Good luck in the giveaway! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Gigi says
Hi Sheaffer,
I would love to nominate my friend, Kelly Trent. Kelly is an awesome mom to 3 boys. Her oldest son, Tyler, is in a fight for his life against osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. The video below is only 4 min. long and tells the story far better than I can. It features both Tyler and Kelly telling the story of how the cancer was first discovered in 2014 and how they continue to fight it even now as a new tumor was recently discovered.
http://www.rileykids.org/stories/videos/meet-tyler-trent.html#.W1H4tWepWUk
While the story is about Tyler, we mothers know that there is nothing more difficult than watching our children suffer. Kelly’s strength comes from the Lord, and those of us who have had the privilege to know her and pray for her through this battle are awed and encouraged by her faith. Both Tyler and Kelly are using every day to spread the word and raise money for cancer research so no one has to go through what Tyler is now going through.
I would love to encourage Kelly in this small way. Thank you for offering this shopping spree. All of the moms being nominated are certainly well-deserving!
Blessings,
Gigi
Sheaffer says
Hi, Gigi! Kelly sounds amazing and Tyler is SO INSPIRING! I just watched the video and was so impressed by Tyler and his mama! Thanks for the wonderful nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Sheaffer!! I ordered my first blardigan, the hooded one, this morning (at 6am PST) and by the time I got to work it was already sold out in the small size! I have a surgery in the fall so I ordered it for myself as a treat to wrap up in :). Thanks for your recommendations, I love reading your blog!
Wanda Williams says
Hi Sheaffer! I am going to nominate myself, Wanda Williams.
My son is Ryan, age 22. He was born with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, ocular motor apraxia, verbal apraxia with dysarthria, and a splash of autism to flavor the mix.
He is fun loving, stubborn as a mule, and gives me a run for my money most days.
He went to PPCD, Kindergarten, and 1st grade in public school (Northwest ISD), but we have homeschooled ever since. He has worked with some wonderful SLP professionals at UT Southwestern and UNT, and he uses a DynaVox communication system.
During Christmas season, he always requests a trip to Stonebriar Mall, where we take selfies with the Nordstrom entry decor. There is also CPK, so …. ya know #ulteriormotives.
I have to tell you, on those days I need a break, your Bachelor/Bachelorette reviews are the best. Girl! So funny! Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Wanda! Ryan sounds awesome, and you so very deserving! Good luck and thanks for the sweet words! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kristin says
I want to nominate my sister, Kiley. She has a special needs child – 6 years old – and has had 20 surgeries in her short little life including cranial vault surgery, a shunt, multiple eye and shunt revisions. Macy is developmentally delayed, homebound, and nonverbal. My sister has sacrificed so much of her own including giving up her job to stay home with Macy, missing many family and friend functions for fear of getting Macy sick and the financial hardship that this has brought to her and my brother in law with numerous doctor visits and therapy appointments.
I, too, am a Speech Pathologist. What you are doing for these special mamas is AMAZING! So thank you for what you are doing Sheaffer!
Sheaffer says
Well, Kiley sounds amazing! Thanks for the nomination, Kristin! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Natalie Brouse says
I’m nominating myself 😉 My oldest, Ezra, has autism. Sheaffer, you always make everything look cute! Thanks for doing this for a special mama!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Natalie! Good luck!!! And thanks for the sweet words! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Rachel Kinneberg says
Does the blardigan go on sale a different time of year. Got my first today in the mail and now I want several colors. I live in ND so its cold most of the year and I will totally wear it out all the time. All the moms above sound amazing.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Rachel! I’ve seen one color go on sale here and there, but it’s always random. So glad you love your first blardigan! And yes, all of the moms are so deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Katrina says
So excited that you opened you special mama giveaway to those of us that aren’t local! I feel a bit foolish doing so, but I am going to nominate myself.
My special daughter just turned 16 a few weeks ago. She was born with a very rare genetic disorder called Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome. She is nonverbal and relies on a combination of gestures and a voice output device called an Accent800 (her “talker”) in order to communicate. In addition, she has global developmental delays, especially her fine motor skills. I will never forget the day that I sat there at the local CDSA with my precious 9 month old firstborn, and they told me that she was severely mentally retarded and referred us to an overwhelming amount of specialists and therapists. It was like I had been kicked in the gut and had the wind knocked out of me. A few weeks later, Dr. Rubinstein himself called from Ohio to confirm that she did indeed have Rubinstein-Taybi. I could not grasp how my baby was not going to walk until she was 3; and that she might never use her voice to speak. But over the years, all of the speech, OT and PT visits; IEP meetings, and specialist visits became our normal. Over the years, the “typical” milestones became less important and we learned to celebrate the tiny victories along the way. She took her first steps just before her third birthday and hasn’t slowed down. She may be nonverbal, but she always manages to let us know what she needs/wants. That little baby is now a sweet, loving, funny girl who is getting ready to start high school in a few weeks. And she’s still a child at heart, who loves her Bear in the Big Blue House, Wiggles, Signing Time & Elmo videos. She loves therapeutic horseback riding, swinging and swimming. She does great at school and has even made the honor roll several semesters. She adores her little brother and our cat (in fact, our cat’s name is motivating her to try to use her voice to speak and is one of the only intelligible words she can say!)
It has not been an easy road; however I’ve discovered that parenting a typical child isn’t necessarily any easier than a special needs child- it’s just a different set of challenges. In fact, I often joke that it is my typical 11 yr old son; rather than my daughter with special needs, that is most likely to make mama reach for a cocktail lol….
Sheaffer says
Hi, Katrina! I’m so happy that you nominated yourself. Your daughter sounds absolutely amazing, and your comment about your other child driving you to drink made me lol! 😉 Good luck in the contest, I know you are very deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Samantha Oakleaf says
Oh, how I love your blog! I, like the first comment, feel out of place nominating myself, but I hardly ever treat myself to anything so nice, so here I go!
I am the mommy of five beautiful babies, four sons and one daughter, aged 7, 5, 5, 5, 3. My middle three kids, two boys and a girl, are triplets. I have never worked so hard, as I did to carry them to as close to full term as possible. However, they were born seven weeks early. Since their birth, we have had countless physical therapy sessions, continuing speech therapy, and now weekly occupational therapy. My sweet three all have a form of sensory processing disorder. They are unique in their needs, but it takes all of our family to help them get their sensory needs met.
I little pampering for me would be such a nice and sweet treat!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Samantha! TRIPLETS, 5 kids total, and special needs. Wow!!! You are definitely an incredible and very special mama. This mama of 1 has no idea how you do it, but you inspire me! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kaci says
I *loooove* Zella leggings and always get them, BUT I’ve read that they switched up the material and they’re a big no go this year. I’ve already ordered mine, but did you try them this year? Was it different fabric? Were they see through?!?! I think I’ll just cry if this is true.
Sheaffer says
I got the cropped ones, Kaci. Are they saying the Live In Leggings are different than the cropped? I love my cropped ones! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Rene Kiser says
I’m so excited you’ve opened up nominations for people outside McKinney! I would like to nominate my daughter Jessica. She has 2 girls with one having autism. She never gets to do anything for herself or by herself as she is constantly going to speech therapy or OT or many other appointments for sweet Hadley. Life is going to get even more crazy as she is pregnant with twins! It was a total surprise for a pregnancy but especially twins. Must be what happens when you have to take antibiotics while on birth control pills. LOL. Her pregnancy is very high risk as she’s already been diagnosed with placenta previa and is at risk for preeclampsia as she had it with both other pregnancies.
Thanks so much Sheaffer for all you do and for all that bossiness!!!! ❤❤
Sheaffer says
Jessica sounds like an amazing mom and very deserving! Thanks for the nomination, Rene! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Monica says
I would like to be considered for the giveaway please. I have a 3 month old son and 3 year old twin girls. One of my girls was born with a severe congenital heart defect. She spent the first 6 months of her life in the hospital. She has developmental delays due to her extended hospitalization as well as a stroke. She just had her 5th open heart surgery last month. Our days are filled with medications, monitoring vitals, doctor appointments and multiple therapies (PT, OT & ST). She is my miracle baby and she is doing well at the moment.
Thank you for hosting this generous giveaway.
Sheaffer says
You sound like a wonderful mama, Monica! So happy you entered! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lara Kessler says
I would like to nominate my friend, Tracie Ewing. She has two girls- the eldest, Alexa has a chromosomal deletion and has many special needs. Tracie puts so much love and compassion into caring for Alexa while also trying to make sure her other daughter is able to have as much of a regular life as possible. She ended up taking a job at our church because of the flexibility it gave her to attend Alexa’s doctors visits. Tracie has such a kind and wonderful heart and I know she would be thrilled to have a shopping spree just for her. Thank you so much for all you do, Sheaffer! I love reading your blog 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi,Lara! Tracie sounds awesome! Thanks so much for the entry (and the sweet words)! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Norah Randles says
My frInes Abbie Smith might be the MOST DESERVING special mama you could ever choose. She is a full time working Pediatrician in my practice whose oldest son was born with Down’s Syndrome. Her husband recently quit his job to follow their dream as a couple and start a nonprofit called Hopes Story to support families who are given the prenatal diagnosis of Downs Syndrome by their Ob. My friend was never offered this support as they only found out Noah had Downs Syndrome on the day he was born.
You would never know about her daily struggles of raising a child with special needs as she only speaks of the joy Noah brings to her and her families life. She recently had her third son and I am amazed daily how she keeps her house running and yet continues to care for other children and their families as if she has no other worries in the world.
Abbie is the most self sacrificing and Christian person I know. Not only does she deserve a day for her, you will be forever affected by meeting her and hearing her beautiful life story!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Norah! Abbie and her husband both sound like incredible people and parents!!! Thanks so much for the nomination. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Katie Brenning says
I am so thankful that you recognize these mamas every year. I have been wanting to nominate my best friend Kristi McCoy for years, but we aren’t local. This year is the year. Kristi is an amazing mom to Matthew. She fights tooth and nail to get the best care she can. Matthew requires nursing care 16 hrs a day and the other time is for Kristi to cover. She is so selfless for her children and deserves to have a shopping spree for herself! Thanks again!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Katie! Kristi sounds like an awesome mom and very deserving. Thanks for the nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Melanie Gaeta says
I would like to nominate my friend Kwashawna. She lives in Baltimore. She was in the foster care system in her youth. She had two children while still a teenager. She is a devoted mother. She has been unable to work because she has a special needs son. He has a list of diagnoses including ADHD and Tourette’s. He is that tough to love kid, because his behavior is often violent and unpredictable. She advocates for this child tirelessly. His treatment and care are a constant struggle for the family, but they do so lovingly.
She had a knee surgery this past year and really struggled to self care through her recovery. I would love for her to experience the joy of the Nordstrom sale. This is not something that is even on the radar for an inner city, former foster child young mom raising a child with special needs, but she is so deserving of this.
Thanks for all you do!
Sheaffer says
WOW! Kwashawna sounds like one amazing mama!!! Those of us with typically developing children have absolutely no idea what a day in the life looks like for a mom like Kwashawna. Thanks so much for the nomination. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Pam says
Sheaffer, I would like to enter myself but also my son. He is 21 years old and diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 2. He is a special young man and he and I have a strong bond. The autism journey has not been an easy one. He was abused by a teacher at age 4 and we went through a long due process, but we were able to get him the supports and services he needed as a result. He did well during elementary, middle and high school academically; socially he struggled. My son is going to be a senior in college this year and will graduate in June 2019. He is a political science major and hopes to work as a legal assistant in a congressman or senator’s office. His interest is in Health, Education and Welfare. I worked at non profits for 15 years supporting and guiding other families through the special education process. Two years ago I started my own family support and educational advocacy small business. I would love to go on a shopping trip with my son. He will be graduating, going on interviews, dating and needs to look sharp. 🙂 I would love to share this with my whole family (my husband and I just celebrated 30 years of marriage and I have a 27 year old son (also on the Autism Spectrum). Thank you for your kindness and for recognizing and remembering special needs parents. Pam O’Brien
Sheaffer says
Pam! What an awesome story. I love hearing his career goals and I know it took a lot of work from both of you to get there! And awesome job starting the advocacy business. Good luck to you! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Trish says
There’s no way I could put into words all the reasons my amazing friend Meg Smulski is more than deserving of a special treat!!! Her beautiful, sweet, funny, charming, and perfect daughter Cam (Cammy, or Little Cam b/c my husband is Big Cam. It gets confusing in group texts! Ha!) has Downs Syndrome. Even though this came as a surprise at delivery, it hasn’t held anyone in their family back. Often using the hashtag “yes we Cam”, Meg is regularly proving to the world that there is nothing “down” about little Cam.
Cam’s older brother is a wild and crazy (totally typical) 5 year old boy. To say the least, Meg has her hands full. She does it all with grace and humor, and makes motherhood look so easy.
I would love to see her have a special shopping day that’s all about her for two main reasons: 1) what I just said above, she makes it look so easy. Those are the people that need special attention, care, and A BREAK!! 2) she would never spend $1,000 on herself. That extra money would go to her kids, or therapy, or a class she wants to take to learn more about how to meet Cams needs. She’s my hero ?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Trish! Such sweet words for your incredible friend. Meg sounds awesome and Little Cam sounds precious! Thanks so much for the nomination. xoxo, Sheaffer
Karis says
I want to nominate my mom! She selflessly cares for my adopted 25 year old brother. He’s blind, autistic, and has several other developmental challenges. He will never live on his own, and while her life hasn’t turned out as she expected (probably didn’t expect to be helping her grown son go to the bathroom for the foreseeable future), she never complains. For our entire lives, she has put others before herself. Instead of spending money on herself, she spends it on fun or necessary things for her kids, her friends, or even strangers. I would love for her to have the opportunity to treat herself for once!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Karis! Your mom sounds amazing and incredibly deserving of a treat. Thank you so much for the nomination. xoxo, Sheaffer
Beth Ann Atkins says
My name is Beth Ann Atkins & I selfishly nominate myself.
My 10-year-old daughter has a very rare form of epilepsy that currently has no treatment options. It is called Sunflower Syndrome & her brain seizes the entire time she’s in sunlight. We’ve had 4 doctors so far tell us that there’s nothing they can do for us, but as a mama, I will never take that for an answer & will fight for an answer until the day I die.
She has the sweetest personality & doesn’t know a stranger. She is friends with everybody & tries her best at all she does. She has rather severe learning disabilities & as a teacher myself, even I am at a loss most of the time in how to help her.
God entrusted her to me & it’s my job as her mama to fight for her & give her the best quality of life as possible! On top of that, having a 6 year old son, & being a third grade teacher myself, life can get a little hectic & stressful but God has big plans. I just know it 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi, Beth! I’m so happy you nominated yourself. Your daughter sounds absolutely precious, and it’s obvious she’s lucky to have you as her mama! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Nancy Alarcon says
Every family is special and unique, ours is because our mother, Linda, made a choice when she was just 21 years old to become the mother of a sweet baby girl with Down Syndrome. She may not have given birth to our sister but she is her mother in every single aspect. She raised Stacey alone with help from her family until she met our father four years later. As time went on our family was created. Our parents raised us with an extremely special individual. Our mother’s selfless acts made us all better people because Stacey is our sister. Challenges with Stacey were far and few between, up until this past year when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Our mother never left her side through all of her treatments. We are not sure if we know of any 21 year old today that would have done the same thing that our mother did. However, we are thankful that she did because we were able to grow up with the most amazing person. There are a lot of amazing selfless women, but none of them could hold a candle to our mother. We would love to see her win this because it is not often that we see her do anything for herself. Thank you so much for holding this contest!
Nominated by her two daughters Lauren and Nancy
Sheaffer says
Hi, Nancy! Oh my goodness. Your mom Linda is no doubt an incredible mom. What a selfless act to choose to be a mama to this baby at such a young age. I hope Stacey is doing well after treatment. Thanks so much for the nomination. xoxo, Sheaffer
Nancy Alarcon says
Thank you so much for your kind words! Stacey is doing well..she ended her treatment only a few weeks ago! My mom and I love to read your blog..especially your Bachelor recaps! You are hysterical!!
Sheaffer says
WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!
Trish says
Let’s try this again… my previous submission wouldn’t post! So here’s an abbreviated version: my wonderful friend Meg Smulski is showing the world daily how wonderful her daughter Cam is. Cam was born with Downs Syndrome and brightens every room she enters. Meg is an incredibly successful, hard working mother. I’d love to see her spoiled at Nordstrom!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Trish! Beautiful words about your friends Meg and Cam! Thanks for entering Meg! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Erin Haskins says
I would like to nominate my amazing friend, Alison Hudson! Alison has 4 beautiful children: Riley, Caroline, Abby & Maggie. The amazing thing is they are two sets of twins!
Riley and Caroline were both born prematurely, with cerebral palsy. There’s not enough space to explain how much love, time and devotion Alison pours into the care of her 2 oldest children….all while being sure to not neglect her 2 youngest girls who are SO loved, too!
Alison quit her job to be a full time momma. Every day is spent caring for her children. It would be awesome for her to receive this gift so she can “care” for herself, too!
Thank you for allowing me to recognize my amazing friend!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Erin! WOW! Two sets of twins, and two with intense medical needs. Alison sounds so deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer
Michelle Branighan says
I nominate April Ducuing. I met her when I was looking for an organizer for my home . We spent plenty time together so got to know her pretty well. She is a single Mom with a special needs child. Her paying job is Organzing but her real job is standing up for children that don’t have a voice. She’s spent countless hours at her school board trying to make sure her child has the best shot in life he could have. On top of all this, she is now primary care giver to her ailing Father. She has a full plate and I have no idea how she doesn’t it. This Momma could use a little happy in her life for sure. She’s one of a kind.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Michelle! April does sound like she’s “one of a kind”. Great nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer
Kauti Nicholls says
Hi Sheaffer,
First off, thanks for all the Nordstrom sale recommendations! I just received my order yesterday and am so happy with everything 🙂
I want to nominate my bestie, Jess. She has a medically fragile, special needs daughter who is non-talking, non-walking (weighs just 35 pounds). She and her husband have been her sole care-taker–loving and nurturing her day and night (I don’t think they’ve had a full-nights sleep since she was born 12 years ago!!!) They spend their days in and out of doctor offices/hospitals and allocate so much money towards medical costs. She is such an incredible momma! One would think this type of trial would make someone bitter and angry, but Jess is so full of love and compassion to all. She is completely selfless, so funny, and the greatest friend I could ever ask for. You would love her! Sadly, she moved away from the great state of Texas a couple years ago….but we still keep in touch via text/snap and look forward to your Bachelor recaps every week! Thank you for hosting this giveaway Sheaffer! xo
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kauti! What a wonderful tribute to your friend!!! Jess sounds awesome. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer
Laura Stone says
I would like to self- nominate. My 11 year-old daughter has autism and ADHD. We live in a rural town where access to care is very limited. Most providers are out of network for my husband’s employer-provided insurance, or they do not take insurance. This has been a frustration we have dealt with since she was four. However, quite possibly the biggest frustration for me is people not understanding why she behaves the way she does because she looks “normal.” My daughter struggles daily at school and in social settings like church. She has never been able to participate in organized sports or organizations like Girl Scouts. I have followed your blog for the past five years, and every year I am so impressed with your special momma give away. It means so much just reading about the other moms and knowing someone truly understands how difficult raising a child with a disability can be.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Laura! Insurance can be so incredibly frustrating, and I hear all the times from mamas that describe how looking “normal” often invites lots of judgement. I’m so glad you nominated yourself! xoxo, Sheaffer
Courtney Linder says
Coming out of the shadows to nominate myself (awkward!). My son (11) is autistic along with several other qualities attached (ADHD, processing disorder etc). I have been homeschooling him for the past few years mainly due to bullying. I am so proud of how hard he tries and his heart, I am a blessed mom. Graham loves to code and build computers, recently learned to wake surf and is trying karate this year (HUGE milestone). Thank you, Sheaffer for the spot light for special needs moms!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Courtney! Graham sounds awesome and so do you!!!! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer
Ellie Duhon says
Hi Sheaffer! I’d like to nominate my mom. She selflessly cares for my 18 year old special needs sister, who is unable to do most things for herself. She will never live without my parents, but I have never heard my mom complain. Amongst raising my sister, myself, and another little girl, my mom is a hardworking nurse. One day around 2 years ago, when she was working in the NICU, a drug-addicted baby with no family came in. My mom took it upon herself to take this baby in to our family, to care for him. As things turn out, we will be adopting my new brother next Thursday. My mom always thinks of others well being before herself. She is strong, brave, and inspiring. I think it’s time to spoil her! (Also it will work perfectly, because we are moving to Dallas next week!)
🙂
Sheaffer says
Ellie, your mom sounds like an amazing person. What an inspiration she must be to all who know her. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 😉
Katie Augustine says
Entering my neighbor and friend, Amy Coolidge. She’s a mom of three that have a very rare genetic disease. Her days are difficult and her husband travels. I would love to bring a smile to her face.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Katie! You are the 2nd entry I’ve seen for Amy! Good luck. xoxo, Sheaffer
Jane Humphrey says
I know a mom who didn’t give birth to her daughter but has stepped up to care for her as if she had. Her daughter is severely handicapped after a drowning accident as a young toddler. Her father was broken by it but Emily came into their lives and loves them fiercely. They have a blended family with 4 children between them and Emily does everything in her power to make this family whole. I have seen her cry, laugh, and speak passionately about what her daughter needs to get thru the day with less pain and a smile on her face. Emily is truly an angel and I would love to see her win. She does so little for herself while giving everything she has to her family.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jane! It sounds like Emily is such a blessing to her new daughter. So deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer
Deon Peel says
Amy Coolidge definitely deserves to be spoiled. She has 3 children with a very rare genetic disease. The youngest is the sweetest boy but requires attention 24/7. Amy stays at home to take care of the children while her husband travels and is out of town 4-5 days a week. So basically she is a single mom. Amy is the strongest woman I have ever seen. She never ceases to amaze me with her patience and innovation to take care of her children.
So I proudly nominate Amy Coolidge.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Deon! Thank you for the nomination. Amy sounds so deserving!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer
Amy says
I also would like to nominate Amy Coolidge. Everything Deon said is spot on. Not only does she take care of her 3 kids but she still finds room in her heart to lookout and helps others. She is more than deserving!
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the nomination, Amy! xoxo
Angela Shaw says
I would like to nominate my friend Amy Coolidge. She is an awesome mom to 3 children who all have special needs.
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the nomination, Angela!
Jill L says
It feels funny to nominate myself but here goes 😉 I am the mom of a very active 9 year old daughter. Laura was born 9 weeks premature with multiple birth defects including a congenital heart defect (Truncus Arteriosus being the primary defect), a congenital limb defect in her right leg (Tibial Hemimelia – a 1 in 1M occurrence) and a tethered spinal cord. So far in life we have been thru 2 open heart surgeries (at least one more will be needed in the next few years), her right leg amputated through the knee at age 3 1/2, and several other surgeries to correct defects.
I love my girl with all my heart and she just kills me when she says “Do you know who the best Momma in the world is? You are!” I try not to dwell on her heart condition but there are nights it does keep me up especially when she gets sick, so hard to tell if it is just the regular old stomach bug or could it be something more sinister.
I do not hold her back one bit, she has taken dance lessons for the last 4 years, swim lessons for the last year and we regularly go to the park so she can practice her “ninja warrior” climbing skills. People who know me say she takes after me that we’re both strong-willed – I say it’s just plain old stubbornness, not self-confidence from me.
Thank you for doing this contest and all the nominated above deserve to win! There are plenty of times we special needs moms put on a brave face, because we know we don’t have any other choice sometimes.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jill! Well, Laura sounds AWESOME and so do you! I love that she seems to just take life by the horns!!!! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sharon Sykes says
I want to nominate my friend Amanda Ravetta. She is mom to Luke and Eli who has Down Syndrome. She had no idea her son had DS until the day he was born. And the way the doctor told her, her son had DS made her and her husband even more upset about their son’s condition. They soon learned that Eli would be a complete joy to their family. So, she has made it her mission to educate others about Down Syndrome and how it isn’t the devastating diagnosis that will ruin your life that most people think it is. Her page is https://www.facebook.com/RaisingEli/ . She supports other families when they first receive the news their child or unborn baby has this condition. She leads the Down syndrome guild in her area to provide fellowship and community for other families who have a child with Down syndrome. She works tirelessly to help others. AND she also works as a realtor to fund all the therapies her son needs which aren’t cheap! She also recently lost some weight doing Keto and looks amazing. It would be so fun if she could go on a shopping spree to find some cute clothes! She is an inspiration and so deserving! Here is her FB page: https://www.facebook.com/RaisingEli/
Sheaffer says
Hey, Sharon! What an awesome facebook page, and what a gift to be helping families who have just started walking the path. She sounds so deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sharon Sykes says
I’d also like to nominate Becky Daily who does live in McKinney. She is amazing. She is a bio mom to three boys, one who has a condition (I don’t know the name) where he needs life long care. He is wheelchair bound, can’t communicate very well and is in the hospital frequently as he seems susceptible to illness. But Becky is also a mom to three adopted boys! Two from Korea and one from China with no arms! Most of us would have said “my plate is full” but not her and her husband. I believe she also homeschools and she used to teach a parenting class for some of us moms. She gives so much. It would be wonderful for her to be treated to something like this!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Sharon! Yes, I’ve heard about Becky before! I believe she goes to our church. What an amazing mama and awesome testimony. Great nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer
Paige says
Hello, I would love to nominate a friend, Maria. Maria’s daughter, Sarah, is now 15 with downs syndrome. When Sarah was born they knew she was going to have down syndrome, but they never expected all of the medical issues that were coming their way. Sarah was born with a hole in her heart and needed surgery almost immediately. She was given a pace maker around this time as well.
Along with Sarah’s heart issues, the doctors knew her lungs were not properly working and giving her enough oxygen. They came to the conclusion that Sarah would need a trachea. From her trachea Sarah is unable to speak really and can only make noises and has to try extremely hard to even say the word yes. Sarah has learned a lot of sign language because of this and so have her parents, Maria and Dave. When someone has a trachea it acts as their air way and is constantly becoming full of mucus. Almost 10 times a day Sarah must be suctioned by machine to clear this airway in order for her to breathe. Sarah can never not be with someone who knows how to take care of her at all times because if her airway is cut off, she can’t breathe. A nurse goes to school with Sarah everyday provided by the school district, but when a nurse can’t come in, Sarah is left not going to school that day and either Dave and Maria have to skip work to stay home with her.
Sarah sleeps hooked up to oxygen and dehumidifying machines while she sleeps. A nurse, covered by insurance, is at the house overnight almost everyday to watch Sarah while she sleeps and make sure she is okay. Unfortunately when there isn’t a nurse, which is around 3 times a week, Maria or Dave have to be up all hours of the night watching Sarah and making sure she is breathing fine. They also may need to suction her multiple times throughout the night.
When your young all you want to do is jump in the pool and splash around with your friends. With her trachea, Sarah cannot swim or get any water in the hole that sits where her chest and neck meet. Going to water parks Sarah can only sit in a few inches of water and maybe go down a baby slide that won’t splash her. We once had 6 people blocking the spraying water on the slide just to make sure Sarah could go down safely and not miss out on the fun.
Aside from all of her medical issues, Sarah is now in high school and living life to the fullest. She is the sweetest girl you will ever meet and never does she ever complain about anything. I told her once my ankle was hurting and her way of replying to make sure I was okay was to run to the fridge and grab me an ice pack.
Maria is the most selfless woman I know. Everything that she does revolves around Sarah because she is the number one priority. Never does she complain about not being able to go somewhere because she knows Sarah won’t be able to do it. Rarely do Dave and Maria get date nights because not many people are skilled enough to watch Sarah. She does everything possible to give Sarah the best life that she can afford. And I know if she won this she would want to spend every penny on Sarah.
Sheaffer says
Maria sounds amazing, and Sarah sounds like such an incredible kid. What a sweet tribute to your friend! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Can I nominate myself and two other ausome moms who have been my tribe on my autism journey (Shannon and Nicole)?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Michele! Yes you can! You just need to leave separate entries for each mama! This one can be your entry. Leave the other’s names in different comments and you’ll be all set. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Elana Boomsma says
I would like to nominate my sister in law, Katherine. Her 4 1/2 year old son has a disorder of the corpus calosum (connective pathway in his brain he was born with). As a result, he is completely non-verbal and has hours and hours of pt, ot, speech, and behavioral therapy every week. He works very hard to overcome his challenges and my sister is his champion. She advocates for him, cheers him on, cries for him, includes him, and loves on him like a true mama bear. I’m so thankful God chose her to be his mom, as she is truly the best for him. She balances this with also having a 6 year old daughter and holding down a job as a hospice social worker giving counsel and therapy to those nearing the end of their lives. She has so many heavy things on her plate yet is always there with a smile, an encouraging word, and an offer to help with my own kids!! She NEVER goes shopping and would therefore greatly appreciate this gift card to Nordstrom’s and a chance to look super cute while she goes about her busy days!! Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Elana! Katherine sounds so incredibly deserving of a treat like this. Such a nice tribute to your sister in law. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Becca holt says
I would like to nominate one of my best friends, Jennifer Conklin. She was an extremely hard-working and busy wife & mom of three young teens when the Lord placed on their hearts a desire to adopt a special needs child. Fast forward three years and they have now adopted three young special needs children from China. Jennifer is the one who first introduced me to Nordstrom when we were much younger and has always loved fashion. We used to enjoy shopping together, but these days she spends her days working with doctors and fighting insurance and managing dozens of weekly appointments and therapies for her three young children. Jennifer is one of the most humble yet most deserving mamas that I have ever known and she would appreciate this more than you know.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Becca! You friend Jennifer sounds incredible. Thanks for the nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer
Victoria Pilgrim says
I would like to nominate my neighbor and friend Amy Coolidge. She has three kiddos and all have varying degrees of special needs. The youngest being the most prominent. She amazes me daily with how she just goes with flow and takes a lot but keeps on smiling! She has such a beautiful heart and she so deserves this! It takes a very special heart to juggle all she does and all with a loving heart!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Victoria! I believe this is the 2nd nomination for Amy! She sounds awesome! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Vicky says
I have been following you since your blog was “Pinterest told me to” and I love love love all you do! I know there are so many other deserving special needs mammas which was one reason why I haven’t nominated myself in the past few years. I am the mom of a very special 4 year old boy who has a genetic disorder called Tuberous Sclerosis, this disease develops brain tumors that cause him to have epilepsy along with developmental and learning delays. Although he is non verbal and suffers from seizures daily he is a fighter! He is a sweet & loving little boy who not only shows me strength but gives me strength everyday! Thanks for the opportunity to be nominated!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Vicky! I’m so happy you finally nominated yourself!!! You are obviously very deserving! Good Luck! xoxo, Sheaffer

Hi! I’m a speech-language pathologist for a small public school, and every mama that I work with is special, but I’d love to nominate the mother of one of my very special students. I work with an amazing little guy who will start kindergarten in a few weeks. I have worked pretty intensely with him and his family in the last few years as they have come to terms with an autism verification that represented a shift in what “normal” would become for them. My little student has made incredible progress in the last 12 months through applied behavior analysis and pivotal response treatment with me. He is so smart, even though he is nonverbal! I send his mom videos of our therapy sessions, and the two of us laugh and cry together through every milestone he meets. Alyssa brings him to school outside of his regular school sessions for extra therapy sessions with me, and twice a week she drives him 20 minutes away for extra therapy sessions at the local university—year-round! On top of taking care of her son’s busy therapy schedule, she is a stay at home mom who also meets the needs of her two other children. She never seems to get discouraged or impatient during this busy and sometimes emotional stage in her life with three young kids, one of whom has special needs. She is always smiling and counting her son’s victories, cheering on both him and me through the daily grind. She is so selfless, and while I wish you could give a shopping spree to every mother who is nominated (because they never rest and never give up on their babes), it would be so amazing to see this special mom from the middle of Nebraska get a little pampering before another busy school year revs up. Thank you for your generous heart that goes out to these super moms. Not many people understand the sacrifices these moms in particular make on a daily basis to give their children what they need for maximum success. Bless you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Cindy! Well, my goodness. This mama you are nominating sounds very special indeed. And very deserving! Love that you’ve had such a hand in her son’s progress. I have memories burned into my brain (in the best way) of times I’ve celebrated and cried with mamas as well. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer
Kelli says
I would like to nominate my Mom, Patsy. She is the most giving woman alive. She will not pay much for well anything because she wants to make sure she has money for others that might need it. My grandfather is in hospice and she has stayed by his side – doing things most daughters don’t even want to think about doing for their father. I don’t know if she has even ever stepped foot in a Nordstrom so I would love for her to have a chance just once in life to have a little luxurious shopping. I am a teacher so my salary doesn’t lend it self to doing that for her! Thank You!
Sheaffer says
Pasty sounds like a wonderful mama and daughter! Thanks for the nomination, Kelli! xoxo, Sheaffer
Natalie Pounds says
Hi Sheaffer,
I’d like to nominate my good friend and coworker Abbie Smith. Abbie is the mom of 3 boys and her oldest has Down Syndrome. She is also one of the best pediatricians I know who cares for her patients as if they were her own children. Abbie is truly incredible—she exudes patience, grace, love and dedication. She and her husband have started a non profit to try to help other families who are starting to navigate their journey after finding out their child has Down Syndrome. Their goal is to provide hope and a real life story to an otherwise uncertain, scary diagnosis for new parents.
Abbie is so very deserving of this special shopping spree! She is the definition of grace and a true blessing in my life and the lives of those she encounters.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Natalie! I think this marks Abbie’s 2nd nomination! She sounds amazing and truly deserving. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Tammy Williams says
I know a mom! I’m currently working with a sweet mom of three to find a new home. Her middle child, age 4, has a very rare disease (I’ll add the name as I had never heard of it and it’s tough to remember the spelling). Jackson is legally blind and has a number of issues that require frequent medical attention and medications that are very costly. Due to his condition and being in and out of the hospital, she is unable to work. Dad is amazing too and works very hard but with so many medical expenses it’s hard. That coupled with the fact, they are not from this area, I’m sure makes it more challenging for her. I recently met their gorgeous children and they all just melted my heart. You can just tell this is a wonderful and deserving mom and her sole focus in searching for a home is that Jackson will access to great schools and a backyard suited for his tactile toys and safe to run and play despite his severe vision loss.
I’ve talked to them about Kids Incredible and they may even start attending our church which I’m super excited about.
I’d love to see her receive such a precious treat. It would not only be a warm welcome to our city but I’m sure it would be very appreciated.
This is a wonderful giveaway Sheaffer!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Tammy! You friend sounds like a very deserving mama for sure! Thanks for the nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Elana Boomsma says
Hi! I would love to nominate my sister in law, Katherine Claxton, for the special mama giveaway. Her 4 1/2 year old son, Joshua, was born with a disorder of the corpus callosum (connective pathway in the brain). As a result he is completely non-verbal, developmentally delayed, has hours and hours of PT, OT, speech, and behavioral therapy each week (and he’s absolutely PRECIOUS!!). In addition to the obvious emotional and logistical weight of this, Katherine has a 6 year old daughter and works as a hospice social worker, counseling and walking families through the final stages of life. She carries a very heavy load which can take a toll but she is somehow always there with a smile, an encouraging word, and an offer to help me with my kids! She is the ultimate mama bear: advocating for, shedding tears for, championing, truly seeing, and loving Joshy, and also does a beautiful job teaching her daughter empathy, patience, and to never give up on someone. As a result, her daughter is growing up to be as beautiful as Katherine is. I would love Katherine to get chosen because she doesn’t have time to go shopping for herself. We were just teasing her the other day that she is wearing the same old denim skirt that she wore before she met her husband! I would love for her to have a shopping spree at Nordstrom’s and to be able to get some cute (non-Target) clothes for herself for once!! Thanks so much for doing this for these special mamas!!!?
Sheaffer says
Well, Katherine sounds like an amazing and very special mama! Thanks for the nomination, Elana! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lauren Rankin says
What a wonderful gift you are giving Sheaffer. As you know the last person we mamas of kiddos with special needs take care of is ourselves. My older son Avery struggles with Autism and the passion/fight/advocating never ends. To add insult to injury, in 2007, when my sons were just 4 and 2 I learned from a baseline mammogram that I had Breast Cancer. Seven surgeries, 18 months of Chemo and 11 years later I can report that I am Cancer Free. To this end, when I was diagnosed in 2007 the only thing I could think about was surviving for the sake of my son. I had to get better so I could be there for him, because, let’s face it – nobody loves you like a mommy. Thanks for your thoughtful consideration and all the best.
Sheaffer says
Oh my goodness, Lauren! I’m so happy to hear you are cancer free! 7 surgeries? I cannot even imagine. I’m so glad you entered yourself and wish you luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Suzanne says
Hi, I’m the mom to 5 amazing kids and one grandbaby. The youngest two are mine through adoption from China. My sweet friend directed me to your site, so I guess it can’t hurt to enter! My youngest entered our family almost two years ago, has cerebral palsy and is now 10 years old. He is a sweet boy whose smile can light up a room. He had never been to school before joining our family, so we homeschool he and his sister. They both have some extra needs which make learning at home the best option. It isn’t the easiest way to do it, but as moms, we do what is best for our kids. We also have lots of therapy and doctor appointments. My idea of a shopping spree is unlimited time at Target alone! I’m not sure what I would do with the opportunity to shop for myself at Nordstrom!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Suzanne! I’m so glad you entered yourself, you sound very deserving! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sarah Troendle says
I would love to nominate my friend, Abbie Smith. Abbie is the mother of three young boys. Abbie’s oldest son, Noah, has down syndrome. Abbie and her husband, Rick, have devoted their time and talent to supporting other families whose children have DS. They have started Hope Story, a nonprofit organization that provides counsel to DS families. Abbie is incredibly kind and selfless and I would love to see her win this prize!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Sarah! Somebody else nominated Abbie too. She and her husband some amazing. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Leslie N says
I’d like to nominate myself.
I have a little boy who is 6 years old and has a genetic condition called Fragile X. He was diagnosed right before he turned three. Now three years later I’m starting to feel like the fog of our diagnosis is lifting and I can start to really care for myself again. For the past three years we have just been surviving and I’m ready to start thriving.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Leslie! I hear all the time from moms that the first several years are just a blur. You’re just trying to keep your head above water. I’m so glad you are nominating yourself and starting to feel like yourself again. xoxo, Sheaffer
Caroline Tew says
I would like to nominate my sister Ansley Baca. She’s a single mama of 3, her oldest son Landon is 15 and is Autistic. She has done such an amazing job raising these kiddos. It’s so hard for her to find time for herself between working full time and raising these kids. I want her to know how special she really is and how much I look up to her!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Caroline! Sweet tribute for your sister! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Vanessa warren says
I’m a single mom of three girls and my youngest is sensory processing (spd) times have been trying with her, but she has come a long way with therapy in school and therapy Once a week. My kid is so smart, sweet and very challenging, but she is my baby. I fight for her and with her , but I wouldn’t change her no matter how life challenge us with her is .

Michelle Smith says
Hi Sheaffer! Love your blog! Love your choices of clothes! Saves me a ton of time that I don’t have. Plus shopping in a store with my ASD son is soooo hard. So I would like to nominate myself, Michelle Smith, mom of 5. My oldest had epilepsy with 2 brain surgeries and Leukemia a few years back. God walked us through those challenges and then blessed is with our youngest who is 3 now. Jack has non verbal autism. Every day is a challenge for my whole family. But we are growing and learning so much. And wouldn’t trade him for the world!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Michelle! Thank you so much for the sweet words. You sound like an awesome mama of 5! I’m so happy to hear your oldest is doing well now after Leukemia. That had to be so incredibly scary. Jack and all of your kids are blessed to have you. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer
Don Carruth says
What an awesome giveaway! I’d like to nominate my wife, Karlea. She is the mother to our four amazing kiddos. Our oldest has autism and is on and IEP. And we also have two more on IEPs for ADHD. She works tirelessly all year to ensure the kids are getting the best therapies and interventions in and out of school. Dealing with the school district has been particularly rough this year, but she has warriored on, and our kids are so blessed to have her.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Don! So sweet for a husband to come on here and nominate his wife! Karlea sounds awesome and very deserving. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Cassandra Parker says
I would like to nominate myself. I am a single mom to a 4 year old boy with nonverbal autism. He is a ball of energy and keeps me on my toys. This road has been long and rough but we have persevered. He has many challenges in his short life but his constant infectious laugh and smile have made the days brighter. I am immensely blessed to have him in my life. We spend our days shuffling from school, work, therapies and we are constantly on the go. This isn’t the life I dreamed of but it is the life I have. Jacob is my reason and everything I do is for him.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Cassandra! I loved your words about Jacob. And yes, he is your reason for everything. I’m glad you entered and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I love reading your blog and buying recommendations!
I’m nominating my sister Kathleen Crum. She is mother to two boy she with one on the way. Her almost 12 year old son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2. He is so dear to us all and she does everything she can to get him all the help he needs. Her second son just turned 3 and was diagnosed with autism last year. Knowing what to look for she has been helping him in every way possibly since a young age. She works hard for her boys and deserves a little pampering. Thank you for doing this for all the special mammas!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Dawn! There have been several mamas nominated this year who have more than one child on the spectrum. My goodness that is hard. Thank you so much for taking the time to nominate her! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Pennie says
This is the third year I have nominated sweet April Kwan. April is a God send to so many people including her special and amazing daughter Ella. Ella has spinal bifida. April has raised this young girl to be fierce, confident and a role model to so many other young girls her age. April and I have followed you for years. She’s a Nordy junky and she deserves this so much!!!!
Sheaffer says
Thanks so much for the nomination, Penny! And for being persistent!!!! April sounds amazing and very deserving! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lee Anne Stone says
Hi Schaffer!
I want to nominate Ryan McLaughlin from OKC! She is in in flipping belieavable. She has an older son, Conner who is 13 who is awesome and she lost her daughter Ellie from a rare disorder a few years ago. Her son Henry suffers from PANDAS and her other daughter, Lucy, has the same genetic disorder her sister has and will pass soon. They are in and out of the hospital all of the time with Lucy and sometimes Henry. They adopted a beautiful baby girl about a year and a half ago and she is a bright shining light in their lives!
Ryan not only tirelessly serves her family so well but she serves other families dealing with children who have abnormal genetic birth dioraers and she started a 501c3 called “Hope link” to be able to help other mamas out there going through what she has been through and is going through realize they are not alone. She is simply fantastic. She never does much for herself so I think this Nordstrom gift card would be a huge treat for her.
Thanks for reading those feel free to reach out to me for more information!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Lee Anne! Ryan obviously sounds like an incredible mama and just an incredible person. Thank you so much for the sweet nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lindsay Wagner says
I would like to nominate my mom, Laura Mill, who has a son with special needs. She is the strongest person I know and her positive attitude and faith have never waivered, despite the many challenges that have been thrown her way.
This is such an awesome giveaway that you are doing!
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the nomination, Lindsay! You must be so proud of your mom! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Melissa Muntz says
I think it’s so wonderful that you do this! I am nominating my mom, Paula. Both of my younger brothers have special needs, one with autism. I really don’t remember a time before the diagnosis, and I likewise can’t remember my mom doing much of anything for herself throughout my childhood. My youngest brother has presented a lot of new challenges since he turned 21 a few years ago and aged out of the school system. Like many people with autism, he doesn’t handle change in routine very well and did not love the big changes that came with graduating. There have been regressions, violent outbursts, and lots of other issues. As hard as all of that has been for him, it’s been 5 times as hard on my mom. A parent needs to be with him 24/7 which means my mom is now working night shift in order to be home with him during the day while my dad works. Every single day she operates on only a few hours of interrupted sleep. She doesn’t complain and her biggest worry and stress is how my brother is feeling. Life has thrown her some serious curveballs and she has taken all of it in stride. She deserves a break and a treat more than any person I have ever known.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Melissa! You must be so incredibly proud of your mom. And your mom must be incredibly proud of you too. I should also think about doing a contest for siblings too. I know your life was altered as well, but I hear so many stories of such love and grace that pours out of these siblings. Y’all deserve some recognition too! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Melissa Muntz says
Aww that’s a very sweet thought! As a sibling, I feel like I’m never doing enough to help my parents. Thank you again for doing this, it’s been so fun reading the comments. So many deserving mamas!
Sheaffer says
It’s obvious you’re a wonderful sister, Melissa. xoxo
Carrie Welborn says
I am nominating myself, Carrie Welborn. I have a 10 year-old daughter with cerebral palsy. She has a variety of other struggles as well, but those labels don’t define her. She teaches me every single day what it is like to be an overcomer. I am in awe of her drive, perseverance, and work ethic. In addition to raising her and my spunky 5 year-old son, I am a second and third grade teacher. I pour everything into kids from the time I wake up, to the time I fall asleep. There is not much time left for me. I have followed your blog for years and I’d love the opportunity to shop with you!!!! I read through all of the submissions and I only wish I could win the lottery and provide for every single one. So many deserving Mamas 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi, Carrie! I feel the same way and wish I could shower every single one of you with much deserved love and treats. Carrie sounds like an awesome girl! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Timmy Parnell says
My mom doesn’t know I’m on her page, but she was just telling my dad about this and I wanted to nominate her. We have 4 boys in my family and my older brother Mikey has autism and can’t talk. He is 18. I’m 16 and my other brothers are 21 AND 14.WEe drive her a little crazy sometimes. My parents take very good care of him and my mom has made many sacrifices for him. She always puts us all before her own needs, and hardly ever does anything for herself. She has always been involved in all his therapies ,doctor visits and the past few years have been extra hard because of puberty, you know how that is. It’s extra hard for a person who can’t talk and express their thoughts. He sometimes becomes aggressive, and she loses a lot of sleep. She really loves to shop, but never really gets things for herself. She always buys things for us instead. I would really love to see her win a surprise like this so she can be happy and look beautiful. Thank you. From Timmy.
Timmy Parnell says
I forgot to put her name Barbar Parnell.
Sheaffer says
God it, Timmy!
Sheaffer says
Timmy!!!!! This is so sweet of you to nominate your mom. I really hope you show her this because I know it would make her heart so incredibly happy. I can guarantee your mom not only worries about Mikey, she worries about all of y’all too. Please show her this so she can know that she’s doing an incredible job. Good luck!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Renee says
I would like to nominate Stephanie Erbacher. She is a wonderful mother to a beautiful daughter who has spinal muscular astrophy. I have been calling her a dear friend for almost 9 years when I met them while working for the muscular dystrophy association. Stephanie is such a role model who advocates for her daughter Rylie and is so strong no matter how many surgeries she may go through. I know first hand how much she puts her children first and never thinks about herself.
Thank you for hosting such a wonderful opportunity for these mamas. God Bless you Sheaffer
Sheaffer says
Hi, Renee! Stephanie sounds like she’s a wonderful mama, so thank you for the nomination! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Samantha Neal says
Hi Sheaffer! Thank you for doing this awesome give away! I would like to nominate my friend Alison Hamilton. We met when our oldest were just babies. She is a selfless person and wonderful friend. About two and a half years ago she was driving with her three children ages 6 weeks to 4. Another driver ran a red light and t-boned Alison’s mini van on the side where her 6 week old was in her car seat. Elise’s brain was badly injured in the accident. The extent of baby Elise’s injuries are still unknown because she was so tiny at the time of the accident. Elise has made great strides through the help from various therapies and her super mom. Alison is not only an advocate for Elise, but also all special needs children. Thank you for considering her for your give away!

I would like to nominate my sweet sister, Mckenzie! She has always been my best friend and we were so excited to welcome her new baby into the family last year. After an uncomplicated pregnancy, his birth and weeks afterwards uncovered many complications. He has been diagnosed with a syndrome that requires many doctor, hospital and therapy appointments. My sister has never waivered in her faith, loves that precious boy with all of her heart, and knows that God made this sweet boy just for them to raise! I am so proud of her as a Mom and know she would so appreciate this shopping trip!

Barb is the most giving person I know. She goes without to provide for Lucas and her 14 year old son. I don’t know of anyone that is more deserving of this gift. She has the best attitude and outlook considering the odds Lucas is up against. He is the cutest, happiest little boy we have ever met. I am proud to call her my friend. We are so lucky to have them in our lives. It would be an amazing surprise if she is picked. Here is the page for her son: https://www.facebook.com/prayersforlucasrcdp/

Brigid Smith says
Erin Scherbinski!
She and I danced together in high school and she was always such a genuinely sweet gal and ended up marrying her high school sweetheart. Their middle daughter has Dravets Syndrome, a severe seizure disorder that has stunted her development to the age of when she suffered her first seizure (3months). Erin left her job to stay home and oversee the extensive care needed for her daughter. She has since welcomed another sweet baby girl into their family and started her own blog “Heres to Momma” to highlight budget friendly clothing (even when her own budget doesn’t allow her to purchase it!). She also uses her blog as a way to highlight the realities of motherhood and reminds us all to give ourselves grace, no matter our circumstance!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Brigid! Erin sounds like an awesome mama! I’m going to have to check out her blog! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Courtney Royal says
Hi Sheaffer! First off, I love you! I have literally have laughed out loud/cried over your Bachelor/ette blogs. Second, I would love to nominate my sister in law. Her little boy, Parker, just turned 3 years old. When she was pregnant, the doctors told her that her blood work showed she was a carrier of a recessive gene called the SMA gene. Something no one in our family had ever even heard of before this. SMA stands for spinal muscular atrophy. This means that if you and your husband are both carriers, there is a 25% chance that your child will develop SMA (there are 4 types). Her husband found out he was a carrier and then they found out Parker would have SMA. Before I get into the type Parker has, I will explain a little bit about SMA. It means that the neurons that tell your muscles to move start to die off and therefore the individuals are unable to move. It not only affects movement but it affects respiratory issues as well. As I mentioned earlier, there are 4 types. Type 1 is the most severe and most babies do live until about 6 months old. Type 2 usually begins after 6 months and most of these babies will never crawl, walk, etc. Praise the Lord, after Parker was born they found out it was Type 2 and not Type 1. Up until 6 months, he exhibited normal movement but after the 6 month mark, he began to physically decline some. He would fall over when sitting up and he could no longer do tummy time (where he would be able to prop up on his arms). He has never been able to crawl or walk. Honestly, the Lord just protected him, we know he could have lost much more strength and we are so grateful for the strength the Lord gave him. At an SMA conference, they saw others with Type 2 who were on feeding tubes. When you look at him, you see the cutest, sweetest, and honestly one of the smartest kids I have ever met. Thankfully, there was a new drug approved about a year ago so now Parker is gaining strength with every treatment. However, the new drug requires that they drive two hours every 4 months to get this treatment. Parker has to be put to sleep every time they go and they take some of his spinal fluid out and insert the medicine. Parker is in a wheelchair right now but it’s really amazing how much strength he has already gained from these treatments. We contribute all of this to the Lord’s continual protection over him. Allie and Bryan (my bother in law and sister in law) take him every 4 months for treatment but they also have him in horse therapy, occupational therapy, and some pool therapy. This little boy is a busy and happy boy. His parents do not complain and only see him as a blessing and an opportunity to show God’s continual grace and goodness. However, I know it is taxing at times. It is a physical challenge for Allie to pick him up and carry him or to bathe him but Allie makes sure that just because he has a physical handicap that does not stop him from experiencing everything that other 3 year olds experience. We were just with them for our family vacation and they carry him anywhere they need to, they have a stool for him to sit on so he can play putt putt (golf is his favorite). There are so many deserving moms who could use this special treat and I hope you consider this sweet family!:)

Hi, Courtney! Allie and Bryan sounds amazing, and I know Parker is so lucky to have them in his corner. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful tribute and for the nomination. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer
Tiffany Winkler says
Hi I have 2 nominations. One is a Frisco fb friend Jennifer (Jenny) Beeson who has 4 kids and 2 of them are special needs. The oldest is 12 non verbal autistic with a very rare syndrome (Phelin McDermid syndrome). The youngest is 4 and has a different rare syndrome (tattonbrownrahmansyndrome). He had brain surgery as a baby for fluid on the brain. They were told he probably wouldn’t walk or talk but he has defied the doctors. Jenny is a behavioral therapist and is awesome. I would love to bless her.
The other nomination is for my cousins wife in California, Manya Bohannon. My cousin is pastor of a small church in Southern California. He and his wife had their 2nd baby on June 4th (full term). He is in the hospital and will remain for a few more weeks. He was born with cleft palate, recessed chin, missing kidney, plus they determined his brain didn’t properly fuse in utero. They’ve determined his syndrome is Emmanuel Syndrome (as my cousin said Emmanuel means God With Us so being told their child has this syndrome is just a reminder God is with us). It’s a 1 1/2 hour round trip from their house to the hospital and they have been making that drive daily all while trying to care for their 3 year old son. They do not have a reliable vehicle and have had to do a short term lease. As pastors they are doing Gods work but their congregation is small without a lot of extra money. Anyway I would love to bless Manya as spending money on clothes especially post pregnancy is probably not on her priority.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Tiffany! Both Jenny and Manya sound incredible. Thank you so much for the nominations, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Stephanie Mashia says
My name is Stephanie and I am the lucky mom to a beautiful 11 1/2 year old girl named Sydney. I am a single mom, by choice, so we don’t have a lot of money. So, I give her what I have, which is my love and my time. I coached her softball team for 5 years while she could still play, I lead her Girl Scout troop, I am her room mom at school. Since I had Sydney, I still work full time, but it is at a job where I make half the money that I used to make. However, it affords my the flexibility to do so much for and with Sydney. So, about our story….
I’ve always noticed little things about Sydney’s physical limitations. She was always a slow runner, she had very little arm strength, could not climb or hang on the monkey bars like her friends, she couldn’t jump more than a inch off of the ground and she took stairs very slowly. I had the PT at school observe her, but she didn’t come back with much helpful info. Everyone kept telling me that she was just slow and she’d have a growth spurt and grow out of it, but as a mom, you just know when something is wrong. I was getting nervous about her going to middle school and the increase of what would be asked of her physically, so I brought her to a pediatric therapist to have her evaluated. She could tell right away that she was not where she should be strength-wise at her age and with the activities she was involved it. Her pediatrician agreed and sent us to see a pediatric neurologist at Yale. Things moved pretty quickly from there. He ran some blood tests and checked her ck levels. He mentioned so things that it could be, but I wasn’t ready to hear them. When he called me personally at 8am the next morning, I knew it wasn’t great. He told me that here ck levels which should be between 200-300 units per liter, were closer to 8000! She most likely had muscular dystrophy. She was only 9. The next steps were genetic testing to narrow it down. More blood work, which is excruciating. A few days before Christmas 2016, my mom came with me to get the results. It was confirmed to be limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2C,a progressive muscle wasting disease, with no current cure. What does this mean for my little girl? She stopped playing softball, because she was just too easily fatigued. She stopped riding horses because it was becoming increasingly difficult for her to get on the horse and they worried about her ability to stay on the horse. She was once so outgoing and happy, now she looks on with sadness at kids who can run and jump and climb and get on the floor, none of the things she can do anymore. It breaks my heart. She is still mostly mobile, but she falls a lot. I worry about her getting picked on or losing friends because of her limitations. I do my best to let her do as much as she can for herself and treat her like any other kid. We have great friends, who are kind and patient with her. I don’t do much for myself, because I feel like it’s selfish. Plus, we don’t have a lot of extra money, with the medical bills, but we have each other and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. This is a lovey thing you are doing Shay. You have a lot of deserving mamas to choose from, you can’t go wrong.
Sheaffer says
Stephanie, you sound like a wonderful mama, and I know Sydney is so lucky to have you as her mom. Good for you for knowing something wasn’t right and for relentlessly pursuing a diagnosis. I’m so happy you entered yourself. You are no doubt very deserving. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Hi, Luann! Thanks for nominating your sister, Marianne! She sounds awesome! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Allison Leatherman says
I’m a quiet follower usually, as I used to live in Dallas but now live in Colorado. This amazing giveaway brought me out of the shadows! My best friend in high school gave birth to her second child in 2002 just five months before I adopted my second child. They named him after one of her husband’s close friends, who had died during the 9/11 attacks. Three weeks after he was born, he started having seizures. Very, very long story short, he was diagnosed with hemimegalencephaly. Basically, one half of his brain only functioned to cause seizures. This a rare diagnosis, and the best treatment is to literally remove one half of his brain. You have to wait as long as possible in hopes the functioning half learns as much as possible. The problem is the seizures become so constant it’s a difficult balancing act. At the age of six, Sully’s seizures were so frequent they performed the hemispherectomy. Removed half of his brain. This surprisingly can produce really great results, and for the first year, Sully did great. Unfortunately about a year after the surgery, he started having problems, and doctors in Atlanta (his original surgery was at Johns Hopkins) had to go back in. He’s never been the same since. He is a loving child but unfortunately will never walk or talk. He turned 15 last year. Tracey and Jason and big sister Macy are the most loving family. They always have just rolled with the punches. Punches that most people never get up from. They have just completely adapted their life around Sully, from day one. Tracey is a flight attendant for Delta and has been from the day she graduated from Alabama. She’s always kept her job because of the constant good health insurance that they have so desperately needed. I wish I could describe her sacrifices over the last 15 years, but as a teacher of special needs, you can imagine. She has a layover in Denver on July 30, and it’s the first time I’ll have seen her in many years. I could take her shopping!!
Sheaffer says
Allison, what a beautiful tribute to your friend Tracey. I cannot imagine going through trials like this with your child. Sully was obviously blessed with incredible parents. Thank you so much for the nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Mandi Davis says
Wow, I’ve read through so many comments with tears in my eyes. What some amazing rockstar momma’s you have as readers here!
I’m going to also nominate myself, Mandi Davis, (as silly as I feel) but what an amazing giveaway this is!
I am a sahm to 3 girls, 11, 8 and 3. My oldest Addie, who is 11, has special needs. Her diagnosis of apraxia and sensory processing still doesn’t full answer our questions as to what exactly is going on with her. But I received wise words from a dr one day after so many rounds of testing and everything coming back again saying “that’s not what it is”, and she said “eventually you have to stop asking what, and just start asking how?” How can I help her be the best she can be? And it really changed my perspective. Would I love to have an answer, yes, but its also okay that I don’t. We also make sure she knows that her abilities aren’t what define who she is and what she is called to be. She is a beloved child of the King and He has big plans for her life, she has already touched so many in our area, school, church. I’m blessed to be her momma and have a front row seat to watch her story unfold.
Sheaffer says
I’m so happy you nominated yourself Mandi! You and Addie both sound amazing! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Courtney Bassett says
I’d like to nominate my supervisor at work, Nashema Hatten. She has 2 kids–her oldest child is Autistic and she is expecting her 3rd in October! In the past 7 months I’ve worked with her, I’ve watched as she and her family finished repairs on their home after Hurricane Harvey, battled their son’s school and school district as they tried to displace him, take on 3 new roles and an avalanche of changes at work (our company went through a major reorganization). And more.
The work we do is hard (we’re therapists) and yet with Nashema as one of our leaders, it’s much easier- she’s an unbelievably stabilizing force- patient, level-headed, firm when she needs to be, get’s things done, caring, thoughtful, considerate, and loves to laugh. I know Nashema loves what she does but she’s also carefully chosen her jobs so that she can be available whenever her son may need her- which he often does. And every time I get the opportunity to see her in action as a mom, or be reminded of all that she does and all the she is outside of our office, I am in awe of her!
All the mama’s out there deserve this- and I’m so thankful that you’re doing this give away! I just had to throw Nashema’s hat in the ring!!! She is an awesome momma and person!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Courtney! What a wonderful tribute to your friend, Nashema! I hope she gets a chance to read what you said about her. She sounds amazing. Thanks for the nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Donna Boyle says
Hi Sheaffer, You’re amazing for offering this giveaway.
I’d like to nominate my co-worker Ann Marie. She has three children with special needs. One of her sons was born with Propionic Acedemia and has been on a feeding tube all of his 8 years of life, never eating or drinking by mouth. He’s also mentally challenged and mostly nonverbal. Her second son was born with insulin dependent diabetes. He requires blood sugar monitoring 24 hours a day. Her daughter was just diagnosed with an illness that will require a daily injection for the next eight years. To say the least, her life has been beyond challenging. She works full time and doesn’t ever take time for herself to shop for clothes, although she desperately would like to. She devotes all of her time and energy to maintaining the health of her three children 24/7, 365 days a year.
Thank you for considering my friend. And God Bless all Moms (and Dads) of special needs children.
xo
Donna

Cara Freeze says
Hi! Feels weird nominating myself but oh well! ??♀️ My daughter, Olivia, is 15 months old. At 10 weeks pregnant, we found out she had a rare chromosome disorder (come to find out, it’s SO rare that she’s the only person ever recorded with her exact condition-crazy, huh?!). She was born 6 1/2 weeks early. Spent almost 3 months in the NICU. Home for a few months and then spent 45 days in the PICU. She has a trach, gtube and on oxygen. Doctors never expected me to carry her as long as I did and they didn’t expect her to survive in the NICU! She has defied all odds and is our little miracle. ? Life definitely isn’t easy and there’s a lot of stress involved but we feel very blessed to have her. Her story has touched so many people already and we pray God uses her in big ways! Thanks so much for doing this for special needs moms. You’re so sweet and thoughtful. And thanks for letting me share a little bit of Olivia’s story! I have loved reading all the comments from other moms on here. So many inspiring stories and moms!
Thanks for all you do!

She is a biological mom to 2 and mom to 3 beautiful, adopted down syndrome kids from Ukraine. 2 years ago, her husband divorced her, leaving her to raise 4 children (1 is grown and married) on her own. I will never forget what Michele went through when she learned of her babies diagnoses and continues to go through as MC grows. I just recently discovered your Instagram page and have loved looking at and admiring your clothes. I was so excited to see your Instagram post today about giving away this gift card, but I was even more excited to come to your blog post and discover your are a fellow SLP! I was an SLP working in the school system for 4 1/2 years before I quit to stay at home and care for my sons. My oldest son is diagnosed with ASD and my youngest with a language disorder. One of my biggest fears before I had my children was having a child with autism. I knew from experience how hard these families work and the struggles they face. So when my oldest was diagnosed, I felt so scared, but I knew that God had led me to this career path for a reason because He knew I would need these tools to care for my own sons. My sons are higher functioning, and I still have fears about their futures, but there is so much love and joy in our lives that I wouldn’t change a thing about them. Thanks so much for recognizing the special needs mamas out there!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Lauren! I love that you are a fellow SLP. Yes, working with these families so closely definitely gives us a front row seat to the sacrifices the families make. I’m so happy you nominated yourself, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer

Hello my name is Trever Jones and my wife reads your blog and loves loves loves the Nordstrom. So I love that you are doing this contest! I officially nominate my Jasmine Jones. We currently have 6 children. Our youngest 4 are all adopted from foster care and all 4 were drug exposed in the womb. They are all labeled as special needs and they do all have behavioral and developmental stuff they are dealing with but it could always be worse. Our 2 year old is by far the worse off. He has a chromosome deletion that has caused seizures, eating issues, developmental delays, and will never walk or talk. He is the greatest thing that could have ever happened to us! He is such a happy kid and shows us now matter what life deals us we can always smile! My wife has stayed home with our kids ever since our first was born almost 13 years ago. I have never seen a woman work so hard, love so hard, and fight so hard for her children and the children of others. Now to top it all off about 2 years ago she went back to school to get a degree in social services to help moms who struggle with drugs. To hopefully get them back on track to be better moms and heal from their addictions. So I hope with all my heart she is able to win this contest because I truly believe that their isn’t a woman who deserves it more. I know I’m biased but she truly is an amazing woman, mom, wife, and friend. God bless
Sheaffer says
TREVOR! I’m so glad you popped over to nominate your wife! Jasmine sounds like an incredible wife and one amazing mama! I hope you show her your nomination, because I know it will make her heart swell!!! You and the kids sound like you are certainly lucky to have her, and she sounds very deserving of a treat. Both of you are an absolute inspiration to us all. God Bless!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Diane Spaulding says
Hi Sheaffer! First of all I want to thank you for recognizing all these special mamas who work so very hard for their special need children. I would like to nominate my sweet daughter, Amberly who has a seven year old autistic son named Joey. Joey was diagnosed when he was three, and Amberly went straight to work trying to find him services and special classes that would help him. She tried so many different therapies! After a few years she decided to go back to school and get a degree working with young children with special needs. Working full time because she had to, and taking classes she just finished her first year teaching at a low income public school. She wants to help parents who have been given similar diagnosis’ of their children…. and the education has helped her with our sweet Joey! Now let me tell you about my sweet boy. He has blond hair and big blue eyes and oh how I love him! His path has not been easy…we have a few words and the early years of trying to understand his wants, needs and boundaries have been so difficult. Through it all Amberly has been his biggest advocate and strength. We had three hospital stays this winter due to seizures ( common in autistic children) and as strong as she has been, the seizures are her kryptonite. My girl will cry…Hopefully we have him on the right dosage of meds. Through this all, I have been blessed. I have a strong wonderful daughter who loves her son and fights like a warrior for him! I also have the sweetest little boy who gives the best kisses and hugs and looks into my eyes with the worlds most beautiful smile. How blessed am I?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Diane! You must be so proud of your daughter and the incredible mother she is to Joey! Thanks for nominating Amberly, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Aimee says
First of all I wanted to thank you for blessing a mom with a shopping spree! I am a teacher, and I thought I knew how hard it was to have a special needs child. That was until my sister gave birth to her daughter. My sister, Julie, is the most selfless person I know. She gave birth to her daughter 5 years ago and had no idea the road that was ahead of her. Her daughter was developing slower as a baby. They diagnosed her as having low tone. My sister put her career on hold to care for her special needs daughter. She takes her daughter to OT, PT, vision therapy, speech therapy, every therapy that is offered. Her husband works out of state so everything falls on her shoulders. Her daughter is now headed into kindergarten in a special class. She does not talk or walk, but she bring so much joy to our family. Everything my sister does is for her daughter. This shopping spree would be such a blessing to her! Thank you for the opportunity.
Blessings,
Aimee
Sheaffer says
Hi, Aimee! What a sweet tribute to your sweet sister. Julie sounds like one very special mama. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kimberly Skeeter says
Hi Sheaffer:
What an awesome contest you are doing! So Special!!!!
I would like to nominate my best friend, Sarah!
She is a fantastic mother of 3. She has twin boys who are 12 and her youngest who is 10. Her youngest, Nathan, has Autism. Sarah gives of herself freely and selflessly….not only to her family, but the community as well. She and her husband both teach at the local high school. (Also our alma mater….we go way back 🙂 Sarah teaches Special Education. Additionally, they both coach at the Varsity Level. Softball and Baseball. So, this family spends so much of themselves on their boys and the young people in our community. It would be so amazing for her to be able to spend on herself for a change!
Thanks for all you do!
Kim
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kimberly! Sarah sounds awesome, and I’m so happy you nominated her! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Brooke Waldroup says
Hi! I would like to nominate my friend Leah. She is the mom of 2 special needs boys, girls and boys soccer coach and co-youth group leader with her husband.
This is her story….(from the blog she uses to update on the boys miraclesformalachi.com)
“In February 2013, after just 24 weeks of pregnancy, God decided that it was time for Malachi to be born. Malachi came out without a heartbeat at just 1 pound 12 ounces. After 15 long minutes of CPR he began to fight, and hasn’t stopped since! The oxygen deprivation caused his brain to hemorrhage on both sides resulting in Grade 4 bleeds (the worst on the scale). We were told that Malachi’s quality of life would be very poor and we were given the opportunity to discontinue life saving care. Jake and I have always felt that Malachi’s future rests in the hands of God and we chose life for our son.
Our road is not easy and Malachi has many challenges. His main diagnoses include Hydrocephalus with a VP shunt, Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, Cerebral Palsy, Cortical Visual Impairment, Epilepsy, Severe Reflux, and multiple orthopedic abnormalities. He has had 12 surgeries and several hospitalizations but has continued life with a smile on his face. Although he is very cognitively and developmentally impaired, he is still a very intelligent little boy who can express his likes and dislikes and communicate in his own way. And Malachi loves music with a passion.
In November 2017 we welcomed baby brother Levi into the world at 34 weeks gestation. Shortly after his birth he was taken to the NICU where they discovered he has paradoxical vocal cord dysfunction (also called bilateral vocal cord paralysis) causing his vocal cords to close every time he breathes in. They also discovered several small areas of brain damage leading to a diagnosis of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. We flew Levi to Cincinnati to try several experimental procedures to avoid a tracheostomy. After 15 procedures and surgeries and a 4.5 month stay in the NCU it seems that we have succeeded but his journey is still far from over as this is a long term medical issue.”
Leah is the most amazing mother I have ever known. She loves her boys unconditionally and finds the good in the worst of storms. She never does anything for herself, and I mean never! She bought a new dress for a soccer banquet a couple years ago and I don’t know that she has bought anything new since. Her days are filled with therapy appointments for the boys or soccer practices and games where she brings them with her. I don’t know when she sleeps or bathes! She is simply amazing and deserves to win this plus so much more. Her faith in God is inspiring to thousands of people who follow their story.
Sheaffer says
Oh my goodness, Brooke! Leah sounds so incredible. Her boys sound lucky for her to be their mother, and I love how even through all the trials of her life, she continues to love on others around her too. Thanks so much for the nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lisa Roberts says
I have started and stopped posting three times now over the past couple of days, but, in the name of self-care, I am going to go ahead and do this. I nominate… MYSELF.
I am mom to Luke, a 9 year old with severe autism, and Kate, a 5 year old chatty cathy who talks enough for her and her brother. 😀 Before I spent my days cleaning messes, wiping faces and buns, and driving kids to and from ALL THE APPOINTMENTS, I taught high school English for 11 years. I stopped just before Luke started kindergarten so I could focus fully on his development and progress, and also to take care of his sister. I don’t regret answering God’s call to do that, but I will say that in that time, I feel like I’ve lost some of my spark. With my youngest starting kindergarten soon (in 27 days, THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR MERCIES. THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING), I feel like a new season is coming for me to get my groove back. What better way to do that by stepping out of all of the C9 Active Wear (that I may or may not be active in) and into some awesome new duds from Nordstrom?
Thank you so much for doing this! You will greatly bless the lucky lady who wins. 😀
Sheaffer says
Hi, Lisa! I’m so happy you finally decided to nominate yourself! And yes, THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR MERCIES. 🙂 I lol’d. You sound very deserving, so good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Tracey Sandmeyer says
Hi! I am loving your blog and am so thankful to my friend Betsy for telling me about you! You’ve brightened this teacher’s summer for sure!
I’d love to nominate my friend Michelle Quinn. She is the mom of 4…her 3rd child, Aidan, was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal abnormality shortly after birth and she has endured this hardship along the way (he is now 9)….even adopting a 4th child despite all of her son’s needs. She is so devoted to her family and has left her profession as a speech pathologist so she can constantly run Aidan from appt after appt….Michelle has a hard time getting away and doing much for herself. As her best friend (like a sister), this has been difficult to watch because I know she hurts deep down…but she does her best to smile and serve others. A shopping spree would absolutely blow this momma away! Thank you for all you do and what a generous offering to a very deserving population!
Sheaffer says
Hi,Tracey! Thank you for the nomination and the sweet tribute to your bestie, Michelle! She sounds awesome! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Cassidi says
This is such an incredible giveaway, thank you for being so loving and thinking about these special mama who so rarely have a chance to think about themselves.
I want to nominate my sister, Cheyenne, who is an absolute warrior and shows a strength that I can’t even imagine possessing.
When she was 6 months pregnant with her second child, she became incredibly ill, the doctors couldn’t figure out what was causing her infection and after a turn for the worse she was air-vac’d to the nearest NICU hospital and underwent an emergency c-section. Baby Parker was so small, but like his mom, he’s a fighter, and after a month in the NICU he was able to go home. My sister worked tirelessly during that time to take care of her older daughter, go back to work so she could take her maternity leave when he was finally able to come home and drive to and from the hospital an hour and a half away to spend as much time as possible with baby Parker and to deliver the breast milk she’d pumped.
Once he was home, he did so well, eventually Cheyenne had to go back to work. I’ll spare you all the details, but one night while she was at work, the person caring for Parker shook him too hard, he was without oxygen for 20 minutes and most doctors did not think he would make it and if by some miracle he did, he would most likely be a vegetable. My sister never gave up and like I said, Parker is a fighter. He spent 2 months at the children’s hospital, but was finally able to go home. He just turned 4 and is the most amazing, loving child and has come so far. He can now walk on his own, knows his colors and is making tremendous strides. Neither of their lives will ever be the same, but my sister makes sure to do everything she can for him and her other kids.
She was recently let go at her job and instead of being frustrated or upset, she picked herself up and started an in home daycare so she is able to spend more time with Parker and provide a safe environment for other kids who need it. She is truly incredible and deserves a chance to spoil herself because as most moms do, she always puts herself last.
Thank you again for being so gracious!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Cassidi. Your tribute to your sister Cheyenne is absolutely heartwarming. And Parker sounds like an absolute doll. Cheyenne sounds like a super special mama and very deserving! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Stephanie says
It feels super weird nominating myself, but here I am. I have a young adult son who has developmental disabilities and has spent the last year in/out of the hospital after being diagnosed with cancer (osteosarcoma). I would love to just spend the day out at the mall and have a coffee. Thanks for this opportunity for whomever wins. We are grateful for your fun, daily posts.
Sheaffer says
I’m so glad you nominated yourself, Stephanie! No doubt you are deserving of a little treat! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jaime Hampton says
I’d like to nominate my friend, Melanie, who is honestly the hardest working mom I know! She has 5 kids, 2 of whom have special needs. Her 4 year old son, Elliott, has Down Syndrome her 2 year old daughter, Emory, has Spina Bifida. Melanie spends so much time getting everyone to therapy appointments, school, doctors visits, etc. Emory has had so many health issues and has had 4 surgeries and several hospitalizations in her short life. As if keeping up with the kids wasn’t enough, Melanie is a nurse and is studying to be a nurse practitioner while also renovating a house to be accessible for Elliott and Emory.
I’m constantly inspired by the energy and time Melanie puts into making sure Elliott, Emory, and her other 3 children have the absolute best care. She goes out of her way to make sure all of her kids have equal opportunities for success and is also constantly helping other moms in similar situations by giving advice and equipment.
I can’t imagine a more worthy recipient of this prize!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jaime! Well, Melanie sounds awesome and so deserving! Her kids are no doubt lucky to have her. Thanks for the nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Amy Timm says
I’d like to nominate my co-worker Karla. Karla’s daughter Chloie has CP and is non-verbal and confined to a wheelchair but Karla is amazing Mom who will go Mama Bear on anyone who isn’t treating Chloie with all the respect and love she deserves. She has gone toe to toe with school officials, paras and God help you if you are using a handicap parking spot illegally. She handles tough situations with such grace (and sass) you can’t help but love her! She wants Chloie to have the same opportunities as every other child her age. Karla works full time and manages a household and more! She is very deserving of this as she doesn’t often have time to treat herself and some retail therapy would be great and I guarantee she would share the wealth (Gift card) with the family and friends.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Amy! Karla sounds like a firecracker, and I love it! Thanks for the nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jenna Posherstnik says
I would love to nominate my friend Misty Watts! She was my sons preschool teacher and she made working with 20- 3 year old’s look easy. It wasn’t until later I found out that she had a daughter that is non verbal and autistic. PLUS two other children. She never complains and would go from caring for all of our kids during the day to doing everything for her child at all other times. It’s not every day you meet someone that has that demanding of a home life and still wants to help everyone else’s children as well. She is an INCREDIBLE person and deserves the world! Thank you so much for all that you do for these wonderful mommas!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jenna! Misty sounds incredible and so very deserving. Thanks for the nomination, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 😉
Stephanie McKeever says
I’m nominating Sandra Peoples. She carries the burdens of so many special needs families and had a child of her own who has autism (and other diagnoses) who keeps her busy. She is a resource to many, including me. I am thankful for her friendship.
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the sweet nomination, Stephanie! Good luck to Sandra! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I would like to nominate my bestie since childhood, Alison, who is an amazing mama to two kids, one with special needs. She is endlessly patient, loving and supportive of her whole family and thinks twice before buying anything for herself. She deserves some fun!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Betsy! Thank you for nominating Alison! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Ashley Camilli says
I would like to nominate myself as well as a fellow special needs mama.
I gave birth to my lucky charm this past St. Patrick’s day and we spent the first 67 days of her life in the NICU. Saylor has undergone 3 surgeries thus far and she has more to go… she was transported via medical flight to Texas Children’s to have heart surgery at just 6 weeks old. We have since learned that Sweet Saylor has CHARGE syndrome and almost every system in her tiny body has been affected. We are home now loving on her everyday and navigating life with 16 different doctors as well as many therapies. I’m happy to say she is doing well… we have a lifetime of challenges ahead, but I’m sure she’s going to knock every one of them out of the park. The other mom I would like to nominate is Elin Cartier. She is the wondermom to a sweet special girl name Holly who has Down’s syndrome. She has been someone who has provided me with love and support as we navigate our new journeys.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Ashley! I love Saylor’s name, and my goodness she sounds like a trooper! So happy you nominated yourself, and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer p.s. To nominate Elin you have to pop in and leave another comment. I use a random number generator to pick a winner, so everybody has to have a separate comment! xoxo, Sheaffer
Gosia Sergi says
I would like to nominate my sister, Kasia Lanzarotta. Kasia is the most selfless, dedicated and loving mom and she deserves all the recognition (which she would never ask for or expect). My nephew, Niko, has cerebral palsy and Kasia has spend the last 13 years ensuring that Niko has the best doctors, therapists and teachers. Her love for him is the true definition of a Mother’s love and I strive to be more like her everyday. She is his biggest fan and advocate. She is his motivation. She is his best friend. Through years of fear and heartbreak, Kasia’s outlook on life has been nothing but gracious and thankful. She always put herself last and has no idea how incredible of a human being she is. Parenting is hard. Raising kind little humans is hard. Parenting a special needs child comes with a set of struggles so raw and agonizing. Thank you so much for doing this and recognizing the sometimes invisible heroes.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Gosia! Kasia sounds like one amazing mama and so incredibly deserving of a little treat! And Niko sounds like a great kid. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Katie Barrett says
Hi, Sheaffer! Your special mama give away is one of my favorite things about your blog. As an educator, I have had the pleasure of working with and knowing MANY moms of specials needs kiddos who are amazing and I could nominate them all. However, i want to nominate our dear friend Rachel. Rachel is the BEST mom to her daughter Maila. Rachel and her husband learned upon Malia’s birth that she has Miller Deiker Syndrome, which is a type of lissencephaly (often called “smooth brain”). You can read all about it here http://www.maliamoore.org., but some of her greatest needs involve daily seizures, regular respiratory procedures, and tube feedings. Maila was not expected to live past the age of 2, but thanks to the amazing, sacrificial love and care that Rachel and her husband provide Maila and the support of great doctors, Malia celebrated her 10th birthday this summer! Rachel and her husband are amazing caregivers and put Malia’s needs above their own daily. Although Rachel is a native Texan, they now live in Costa Rica and work very hard to provide a therapist for Malia and to meet her many medical and physical needs. They work to raise awareness about lissencephaly, and Rachel has formed friendships around the world with other moms whose children face the same disability. They encourage each other, share ideas, and work to raise funds to support lissencephaly research. Rachel rarely treats herself (for example, she only gets her hair cut once a year when they come to the US to visit Maila’s grandparents!). She deserves this Nordstrom treat so much! Thanks for taking time to celebrate and honor moms of special needs children.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Katie! Wow! Rachel sounds nothing short of amazing!!!! I’m so happy you nominated her, and I wish y’all luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Tiffany Perez says
I’m nominating my friend, Sara Mota. With 2 kids who both have special needs she selflessly works day and night finding new ways to help them. Her children are amazing. They both are non-verbal and this mama sees many times a day how her kids love her and thank her, but this gift to shop for herself would be such a thank you for all she does!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Tiffany! Thank you so much for your nomination of Sara! She sounds like an awesome mama who is very deserving! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
April Piggott says
I am nominating my sister in law, Lisa Schneider. Her daughter, Myah, was born prematurely at 26 weeks and has spinal bifida. She has 3 little guys already at home and is the best mama ever! This would be an amazing gift for her as they have endured a lot these past few months with her and her husband splitting time between the hospital and home. Thanks so much for such a cool idea!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, April! Lisa certainly sounds like a deserving mama! Thanks for the nomination and good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

She is the sweetest kid around and I love her more than words, but life is definitely challenging at times! Hi Sheaffer!
I am always SO touched by your kindness and thoughtfulness towards special needs mamas! My precious 8 year old, Luke, is on the autism spectrum. He is our joy, keeps our family grounded, and our hope alive. We have been blessed with so many wonderful therapists turned family along our journey. I am 100% positive that you were such a blessing to the families you worked with as an SLP! Thanks for the ways big and small that you make others feel special!

I would like to nominate myself. I have two boys and one is 7 and has autism, a developmental delay, and some other disabilities. This would be an amazing thing to win to be able to get some clothes/shoes for myself and my hubby and boys. Thanks for doing this. It’s so kind of you.
Sheaffer says

Tricia Innes says
Hi Sheaffer! I wanted to nominate myself. I have a 10 year old daughter who has Down Syndrome. She is a bright and beautiful little girl who thinks she is a grown adult capable of doing everything. She challenges us everyday in the best way…to be better humans.
As challenging as Holly can be I am so incredibly lucky to be her mom. She makes me and my entire family better people.
Thanks for the opportunity and thank you for being a special person to love kiddos with special needs.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Tricia! Holly sounds like a great kid! I’m so happy you took the time to nominate yourself, good luck!!! xoxo, Sheaffer
Olivia says
Hi Sheaffer,
I want to nominate my awesome mom Shelly! She is a stay at home mom of 3 and also a mom of a child with autism. She has always sacrificed for us kids growing up! Two out of three of us kids are adults now, and then the youngest (who is on the spectrum) is in his teens. I know that it would make my mom overjoyed to win this, and she really does deserve it for all that she does! Thanks so much, and also thank you for doing this, and offering all these awesome moms a chance to win this!
Sheaffer says
Such a sweet nomination for your mom, Olivia! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Patti Killingsworth says
Hi Sheaffer! Thank you for doing this for the true unsung heroes amongst us! I want to nominate Jennifer Chesser whose daughter ( now 3 years old) was born with both orthopedic and neuro deficits in both legs. She is now able to stand with bracing, special shoes, and a walker. She is the cutest thing ever but Mama spends her days and nights taking her to therapy classes and doing all sorts of leg exercises. Like you said , there is no time for anything but focusing on this child. I hope she wins!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Patti! Thank you for nominating Jennifer! Her daughter sounds precious, and she sounds like a very deserving mama. Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
