My friend Lisa and I have been besties since 2005. We met as first year speech therapists in McKinney ISD and became fast friends. Then our husbands became friends, then we had kids, and now we are more like family than friends.

Lisa’s hubby was taking this picture, but we love him too. 🙂

Lisa’s brother is going through a cancer battle right now and needs financial help to keep fighting, so I wanted to try to help by sharing his needs with this community.
Here is what Lisa wrote about her brother…
Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts, hopeful spirits, and a deep faith in God to ask for your prayers and support for our brother/son, a loving husband to Lydia and devoted father to two beautiful children, ages 8 and 13.
Justin is a devoted follower of Christ, and his faith has remained incredibly strong throughout circumstances that would test anyone beyond measure. We believe God is walking beside him and his family through every step of this journey, and we continue to pray for His healing, comfort, guidance, and peace.
After building his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), he made the decision to serve our country by joining the FBI. Throughout his years with the Bureau, he received multiple accolades recognizing his dedication and outstanding work. As the sole provider for his family, he continues to work whenever he is physically able, often pushing through tremendous pain, sickness, and exhaustion. One of the most beautiful examples of his determination and love is his commitment to coaching his son’s flag football team. Even on days when he is barely able to walk, he finds the strength to show up for his son. Sometimes, that means coaching from a chair because standing is simply too difficult. Yet he continues to be there, encouraging the boys and making memories with his son.
On February 10, 2025, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor, and we were encouraged when the surgeon achieved clear margins and his bloodwork showed no evidence of disease. We were hopeful that this chapter of his journey was behind him.
Unfortunately, on July 28, 2025, during a follow-up surgery to reverse his colostomy, doctors discovered additional cancer in his peritoneal wall, the lining within his abdominal and pelvic cavity. This devastating news changed everything.
For the next four months, he pursued an integrative oncology approach, determined to fight this disease. When his cancer markers began to rise, he made the difficult decision to begin chemotherapy in March 2026. Despite ongoing treatment, his tumor continues to grow, and his cancer markers continue to increase.
Recently, his surgical oncologist shared the heartbreaking news that his prognosis was estimated at just 4–5 months while continuing chemotherapy.
Hearing those words was devastating. Even in the face of this heartbreaking news, we are holding tightly to our faith. We believe God is not finished writing his story. While doctors can provide their medical opinions, we believe our Heavenly Father alone knows the number of days any of us has on this earth.
Following this devastating news, he and Lydia began researching other treatment options. On October 22, 2026, he received confirmation that he had been accepted into the Hope4Cancer Treatment Center in Tijuana, Mexico.
He and Lydia plan to travel there on October 29, 2026, for three weeks of intensive therapies, followed by continued treatment once he returns home.
We believe God has opened this door, and we are choosing to move forward in faith, hope, and prayer as he pursues this next chapter of his fight. We know the road ahead will not be easy, but we believe every opportunity to pursue treatment and spend more precious time with his family is worth exploring.
Over the past year and a half, the financial burden of surgeries, treatments, medications, and medical bills has been significant. As the sole provider for his family, the financial strain is especially difficult. He has continued working through pain and exhaustion whenever possible, all while trying to care for his family and fight this disease.
Now, the cost of traveling and receiving treatment at Hope4Cancer adds another significant financial challenge. We are asking for help to make this treatment possible and to ease some of the financial burden so he and Lydia can focus on what matters most: his health, their children, and the time they have together.
If you feel led to give financially, any amount will be deeply appreciated. Every donation, no matter the size, will help support this journey and allow the family to focus more fully on his care. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would also mean so much to our family.
More than anything, we ask that you pray for him, Lydia, and their children. Please pray for healing, strength, peace, wisdom in every treatment decision, and guidance for everyone involved in his care. Pray that God surrounds their family with comfort, courage, and unwavering faith through the uncertainty ahead.
We are trusting God, believing in hope, and taking this journey one day at a time. ❤️🙏

Here’s a little peek at Justin and his precious family…

These are words from Lydia, Justin’s sweet wife…

So now that you know a little bit about Justin and his family, we of course would love your prayers.
And if you feel led to give or led to share, I wanted to provide you with a couple of different ways to do so.
Lisa (my friend and Justin’s sister) set up a Go Fund Me for Justin’s treatment HERE. The family has been so overwhelmed by the response thus far, and I’ve been blown away at how even $10 and $15 donations add up. Truly, every little bit helps.

Or you can donate directly to Lydia at her new Venmo that she set up specifically for donations for Justin’s cancer treatment. I know this family well, and you can trust that they will use your money in the way that it is intended.

Come back tomorrow for a life update from me that will help explain why my posts have been so infrequent lately.
And remember, if you can’t help financially, the family would love and appreciate your prayers! Justin and his family know that they serve a big God, one that can still MOVE MOUNTAINS!!!
