Happy Wednesday, Everybody! It’s time to join up today with Shay and me to let everybody know WHAT’S UP this fine Wednesday!
Let’s get right to it!
*WHAT WE ARE EATING*
We’ve been grilling like crazy over here and having shrimp poppers every week.
Chris makes them and they are so delicious. Very easy…but super time intensive, so be prepared.
Ingredients Needed: jalapenos, a block of cream cheese, shrimp, Italian dressing, bacon, toothpicks (When out of toothpicks, we skewer them.)
Directions: Half the jalapenos and scrapes out the seeds (while using gloves), then soak them in water for a bit. Spoon softened cream cheese into the little jalapeno boats, pop a shrimp on top, and then wrap it all up with half a slice of bacon. Make sure you just use 1/2 a slice, because a whole slice won’t cook through. Once they are all wrapped up, put a toothpick through them to hold them together, cover them in Italian dressing, and let them marinate for several hours. Chris throws them on the grill and leaves them on for about 20 minutes. Just take them off when the shrimp are pink and the bacon is cooked through (we like the bacon somewhat crispy). OMG. They are soooooooooooooo good.
I’m sorry we only have the picture before they had been grilled, because they are gorgeous when ready to eat. (Chris snapped a picture to send to some of his friends to make them jealous that they weren’t with us.) He marinates the leftover shrimp in Italian dressing also and throws them in a grill pan as well. When the poppers come off the grill, imagine warm and melty cream cheese oozing out of the poppers and perfectly grilled shrimp and bacon with some great char marks. They are definitely one of our favorite things to eat. Carter loves them too!
*WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT*
I’m missing my girls! I will never take for granted a girl’s night dinner ever again. Give me my girls, some queso (and guac!), and a good margarita…and I’m happy!
*WHAT I’M LOVING*
I’ve talked about Old Flame Candle Co once before, but it’s time for another mention because of a GORGEOUS new candle they sent me. But first, I want to give you some background on the company again.
Kasey is one of my besties from high school. Kasey is the other brunette in the picture below, and that’s Jill behind us, another bestie. I’ve got over 20 years of friendship with these girls, and I love them like family.
Well, Kasey’s sister-in-law, Jaclyn, started a business last year that is quickly growing in popularity. I think it’s so unique and totally genius, so I wanted to make sure y’all know about it. Here she is with her darling family! That’s Jeff (her husband), Kasey’s brother.
Old Flame Candle Co. takes hand-picked, uniquely vintage vessels and turns them into incredibly chic candles.
See? GENIUS.
They are designers and sell only the loveliest vessels that they would place in their own homes. From petite candles to giant statement candles, they work with dealers and pickers across the United States, Canada, and Europe to offer a totally unique shopping experience.
Their merchandise is constantly updated with one-of-a-kind pieces so be sure to follow along on Instagram to see all of their latest treasures as they come in. Jaclyn was sweet enough to send me this candle last year. She and Kasey hand picked the perfect treasure for me, and I love it. There’s a hand poured candle in the pink and white sugar dish.
Well, when I tell you they started to grow quickly, I wasn’t kidding. They were picked to go to the Magnolia Silobration over Spring Break. They were of course THRILLED and spent a ton of time and money preparing for the Silobration. They stocked up on inventory, poured sooooo many candles, drove to Waco, got their booth set up, and then the event was canceled at the very last minute due to Covid. Of course they understood, but that didn’t keep them from being heartbroken. And as you can imagine, their very small business was left with an over abundance of inventory (thousands and thousands of dollars worth).
So, when they sent me the GORGEOUS candle below, I knew I wanted to highlight the company again!
They offer 6 unique signature scents and 3 revolving seasonal scents, which are all listed on their website. This particular candle is filled with their cardamom and grapefruit tea. AND IT IS HEAVENLY.
If you have a hard to buy for lady in your life, this is such a wonderful gift idea. The pieces are so unique and lovely!
Click HERE to see the vessels they currently have in stock.
I cannot describe how beautiful my vessel is. The colors! The design! The shape! The size! I love every inch of it
They name all of their candles, and I’m also IN LOVE with Gretchen and Amelia too. The idea here is that after the candle has been burned, you can either get it refilled (click HERE for their refill service), or it will just take on a new life as a beautiful piece of home decor. Gretchen would make a beautiful holding place for bracelets and Amelia would be great for a little plant or just displayed on it’s own. So yes, these candles are considered to be part of the luxury candle market, but you aren’t just getting a candle! You are also getting a beautiful piece of vintage home decor that you can enjoy forever!
All of the vessels all come with a little tag just like this, tied with some beautiful ribbon. And seriously, look at the gorgeous colors and detail on my candle.
I hope you will check them out, and I know that they would be so appreciative of any and all support.
Follow them on facebook HERE.
Follow them on instagram at @oldflamecandleco
And please check out their gorgeous website HERE. I want to leave you with some beautiful pictures of some of their vessels and of Jaclyn preparing the candles.

*WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO*
We spent Memorial Day weekend at the ranch, and we had 1 day of glorious weather. And man, we lived it up on that day. We had the best time with our little family even though it would NOT. STOP. RAINING.
This right here is our favorite space on the land. I love how this little road is covered with a canopy of trees.
*WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT*
As you can see from the collage below, the Blank NYC denim shorts are a favorite of mine. I’m wearing them in the above picture with Carter too. Let’s be honest, I’ve been wearing them pretty much non-stop for 2 years. (And just FYI, I’m totally laughing at myself, because not only do I seem to have a favorite pair of denim shorts, I also have a favorite couple of poses. #notamodel #neveryclaimedtobe #thisisalligot #lookstraightahead #orlookdownandtothesidewhileholdingbackhair #andALWAYShaveoneleginfrontoftheother)
WELL. I’ve got some great news for y’all! They now come in this GREAT LIGHT WASH for summer! And they are ON SALE! They are on their way to me (they just hit the site yesterday), so I will show them on me next week. I’m just not sure they will be left then.
I’m guessing these are going to go pretty fast in the most popular sizes, because everybody that has and loves the regular denim are going to snatch these up too. Click HERE.
*WHAT WE’RE DOING THIS WEEKEND*
Not a clue. I’m thinking grill and pool time in the backyard IF THE WEATHER permits. #stupidrain
*WHAT I’M WATCHING*
I’ll say it again, I’m completely addicted to Songland. In my opinion, it’s the best show on t.v. right now.
*WHAT I’M LISTENING TO*
Right this very second? Carter and Chris are playing foosball upstairs and are doing some pretty epic trash talking. Carter just said, “Not a chance. Good try, cowboy.”
*WHAT I’M WORKING ON*
I have a couple of posts that are coming up that I’m really excited about. One is a Father’s Day post with Academy where I’m hoping to have lots of precious pics of Carter and Chris doing what they do at the ranch.
I’m also scouring different sites for THE BEST UNDER $40 finds. So far I’ve got these Sam Edelman braided sandals in red , and this neoprene pool/beach bag (I love the bright blue with the orange interior). Oh, and my friend Alli texted me about this red swimsuit, insisting it was the best swimsuit she’d ever put on her body (and it has fabulous reviews). So yeah, I ordered it.
*WHAT I’M WEARING*
Okay, ladies! I’m super excited about some Target finds I have to share with y’all today. Now, here’s something you need to know. I’m not a die hard Target shopper. I’m going to give that a minute to sink in, and I hope we’re still friends after I admitted that. Haha! I typically prefer HomeGoods for random home decor items (like throw pillows, blankets, platters, etc.), and I find Target clothes to be really hit and miss.
HOWEVER.
I placed a big Target order since I’ve been having trouble finding pieces I love lately, AND Y’ALL. Target FLOORED me. They are really hitting it out of the park right now!
Check out this outfit! The top, the bag, the shorts, and the sandals are ALL FROM TARGET.
eyelet blouse / sunglasses / sea green earrings / fringe raffia bag / distressed denim shorts / sandals
I fell IN LOVE with THIS TOP the moment I saw it. And then I put it on AND I BECAME OBSESSED. This lilac color is gorgeous (it also comes in mustard and white). The puff sleeves, the little ruffles on the sleeves, and the eyelet are all so sweet and feminine. It’s a great top.
It feels special, and it’s only $24.99. And it’s 100% cotton.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small. Definitely size down if between sizes. The top itself is cut pretty large, so I will always wear a 1/2 tuck with it to give me some shape.
The eyelet holes are pretty open and I figured I was definitely going to wear a cami with it. Although you of course could wear a cami (and maybe should depending on where you are going), I actually didn’t feel I was exposing anything by not wearing a cami.

I mean.
Look at that sleeve.
And look at that bag.

Let’s have a moment with the shorts. They are $18 and they have fantastic reviews. They are very distressed, but I dig the look. I totally recommend sizing up 1 (I’m wearing the 6s). The fabric is soft with a bit of stretch.

I just totally love the whole look.

All right, ladies! I’ve got a lot more Target finds for you, so settle in!
I love the red here, but it also comes in blush and blue. Both the red and the blue would be great for the 4th.
The top is very soft and flowy, but it lays very nicely. I’m wearing a medium because I needed the extra stretch in the chest. If you don’t need extra room in the chest (I often have trouble with buttons pulling), stick with your regular size. The shirt isn’t stiff at all , and it definitely has some give to it. The material is lightweight and perfect for Summer.
I think it’s very cute, HOWEVER….I haven’t washed it yet. Several reviewers mentioned that it shrunk up quite a bit in the dryer, so I would recommend hanging it to dry.

Here’s a close up front and side view of the shorts.

This gauze shift dress was an “almost” for me.
I need a medium in the chest, but I need a small everywhere else. I feel like if I could have squeezed my boobs into the small, I would have loved the fit and the length of the rest of the dress. As it is, I thought it was a little too tent like, and y’all know I love a good shift dress. AND this dress has pockets. If you don’t often have trouble with dresses being too tight in the chest (I do have this trouble often), you might want to give this dress a try!

This navy floral cover up is precious. The print is very tropical, the cut is flattering, and I love the blue and white combination. I pretty much always get 1 cover up and 1 swimsuit from Target every single year. I feel like cute and affordable swim wear and cover ups is where they really shine! I’m wearing a small and there’s still a lot of room. If you want a closer fit, size down. I like my cover ups to be billowy.
Okay.
I’m taking one for the team here, y’all.
I showed this green floral swimsuit on the Target model last week on Facebook letting y’all know I bought the suit and loved it on. I got a handful of requests to see it on me. So here goes.
I enjoy full bootie coverage and leg holes that aren’t high cut at all. This suit really delivers on both counts. It also has ruching around the waist that is quite flattering and a nice big ruffle up top that’s fun and flirty. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium, which is standard for me in swimsuits.

This black swimsuit is cut the exact same way and has the exact same fit. It’s actually one of my suits from last year and I loved it, which is what prompted me to grab the green one this year. Because if you find a swimsuit that works, you freaking stick with it. #amirightladies

Here’s the eyelet blouse again from above.
I wanted to show you that it could be easily dressed up, so I styled it with black tie waist shorts and leopard sandals! The black pair is great, but I read a couple of reviews saying the coral is slightly see thru. I could see that because the material is thin, but there are no sheerness issues with the black.
The tie waist is very cute and I love the pockets.
For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I would normally buy a small in elastic shorts like this, but after reading the reviews I went for the medium and I’m glad I did! They are wonderfully comfortable and don’t pull at all.

This shot gives you a nice up close look at the eyelet pattern. But again, I don’t feel it’s completely necessary to wear a cami under it. I do think a black cami under it with the black shorts would dress it up even a bit more and be a nice look.

Here’s the eyelet blouse yet again. Yep, I’m a fan. Remember to size down, I’m in a small here.

This set is totally cozy, a gorgeous color (lots of choices), and has a perfectly slouchy and relaxed fit. This is exactly how I want to look and feel when I’m lounging around the house; not sloppy and totally comfy.
I’m wearing a medium in the hoodie and a small in the shorts, and I like the fit in both.

*ONE MORE THING*
One of my very favorite tops from last year is BACK IN STOCK! And it’s ON SALE! And with the code SHEAFFER25 you can get an additional 25% OFF. The code makes this top ONLY $34 (regularly $59).
embroidered top / $16 sunglasses / my favorite earrings / Michele watch ON SALE/ bracelet set / favorite denim shorts / reversible cognac tote bag / shoreline converse
I have it in several colors, but this combo is extra darling. I’m quite sure it’s going to fly off the shelves at this sale price, so don’t delay. I’m wearing a small and it’s still a relaxed fit.

Aren’t those Target shorts good?? I’m still impressed with mine every time I put them on!
Sheaffer says
They’re stupid good.
Kim says
Love your style! Where is your striped shirt from that you are wearing with Carter in your favorite spot at the ranch?
Sheaffer says
Thanks, Kim! It’s Madewell, but it sold out before I could ever talk about it. So sorry! 🙁
Lauren says
I’m not usually a Target girl either, but I am today. Getting the eyelet shirt, the shorts, the cover up, and both swimsuits. Thanks, Sheaffer!
Shay Shull says
How freaking cute is that floral swimsuit?!?! And now, I want poppers before 9:00 AM.
Natalie says
Those candles are gorgeous. My mom and my sister are both so hard to buy for, so I’m definitely going to have to check them out.
Melissa says
i have been reading your blog for years and i know i have said in the past how cute your toes are, I am weird like that, but please frame that pic of you and Carter at the ranch cause mamma has some kick ass legs!!!
Sheaffer says
Well good gracious, Melissa! You’ve made my day. I do not have any memory of anybody commenting on my toes, but I’ll take it! Haha! xoxo
Dara Mascianica says
Hi Sheaffer! What size did you buy in the red swimsuit?
Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Dara! A medium!
Jeanne says
Writing down the recipe for the Shrimp Poppers now! Question, do they go on the grill in the pan you marinade in (if so covered or uncovered), or are the wrapped jalapeno’s being put directly on to the grill? They look delicious can’t wait to make!
Sheaffer says
We put them right on the grill, Jeanne!!! Enjoy!
Keri says
Hi Sheaffer, well I finally ordered your favorite denim shorts in the light wash! I had been stalking the dark blue ones, and could never commit. Then I saw the light wash yesterday while I was “window shopping” online. Today’s post convinced me to finally order! While I usually size up in shorts, I stuck with my usual 26’s from some of your older posts on how these fit. Hopefully they fit since everything is still closed here in the SF Bay Area. Also I totally sympathize with the needing to size up in dresses to get the chest to fit properly. Me too! It stops me from buying dresses all the time because then they just look like tents.
Laurie S says
Carter is getting tall – watch out mama! And the red ruched blouse has caught my eye… I think I need it, And please send the rain to California- we need it. We will give you our heatwave. Lol
Christa Liso says
Sheaffer, I just love your style and your blog! I am possibly the worst shopper of all time. I have zero patience for looking through clothing racks or pages of clothing options. Your blog has been so helpful! Thanks for all you do! 🙂
Sheaffer says
This is such a compliment, Christa! Thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to write such sweet words! xoxo
Katerina says
Gosh I am obsessed with the look and sound of those shrimp poppers – what a fabulous combo of flavours and colours – yum! And those Target finds are really fabulous – well done!
