Splurge Vs. Steal #2: The Kimberly Necklace

Back in August I did my first SPLURGE vs. STEAL post for the Madewell Cognac Tote bag,
and it was a big hit!

Today, the SPLURGE vs. STEAL post is dedicated to the Stella and Dot Kimberly Necklace
that we all know and love.
If you’ve been reading this blog since the beginning, you’ve probably seen it no less than 100 times.
NOW LISTEN GIRLS.
If you already have the Stella and Dot necklace and paid full price for it, THAT’S OKAY!

That’s what I did too.
And believe you me, I we got my our $$ out of it.
If I did a cost per wear analysis for myself, we’re probably talking like a nickel per wear or something ridiculous like that.
So, if you already have it, don’t kick yourself for paying full price for it.
In my opinion, the necklace was worth every bit of the $89 I paid for it.

HOWEVER.

In the collage below, Stella and Dot is on the left and Accessory Concierge is on the right.
I would be hard pressed to tell you the difference.
It looks like the Accessory Concierge version is maybe a teensy tiny bit wider.  Maybe.
But without getting out a ruler, it’s hard to know.
And I have no idea where a ruler is.
While we’re on the subject, I also have no idea where Carter’s Sperry’s are since the move…but that is  neither here nor there.
I was afraid that the Accessory Concierge version was going to “feel” cheap.  I’m not sure what that means, expect that I was maybe expecting it to be really light and just feel different.
Well it’s not light.
And it doesn’t feel different.
I’m telling you, I agree with the dentists.
This is a freaking good knock-off.

If you can afford the Madewell tote that’s all over Pinterest (it’s $168), then go for it!
It’s classic, well made, and probably worth every single penny.
 I think it
would be totally worth the splurge, but if you don’t want to spend that
much on a bag, I have an alternative for you that I found online at
Nordstrom!

*The look-alike tote is reversible, so you can get the cognac color by either ordering the black, gold, olive or oxblood and just turning it inside out!

get SO many compliments on it! You just can’t beat $48 for a great bag.

The Madewell tote is obviously higher quality, but for $48, this Nordstrom look-a-like is a really great substitute.

    I love that necklace. I have it in the steal version too. There are items I like to splurge on and items that are best to save on. So these posts are amazing!!! I love the bracelet too! About the pea coat – do I need to size up a size because it is a junior? Thanks! susan

      I have no idea how many they had in stock. When I decided to do the spurge vs. steal post I did reach out to see if they had plenty in stock, and they said they did! I didn't ask what "plenty" meant. I've already e-mailed to see if they can re-stock and if they will honor the discount! I'll keep everybody posted. Fingers crossed!!!! 🙂

    So this Kimberley look-a-like post is BRILLIANT and makes me extra happy because I had been eying the Stella one for months and could not justify the $$. When on vacation in Missouri this summer I spotted a look-a-like in a boutique for about 1/4 the price. I ABOUT FLIPPED! I got the last one and I am still giddy about it months later. 🙂

    In regards to your questions about whether you should make the splurge vs. steal a regular thing – I definitely think you should. I really enjoyed this post, and while I love most of the stuff that you post on the blog, I don't have the budget to be able to afford even half of what you post – so anything cost saving gets gold stars from me.

    ALSO – I've been thinking this for a while, so I might as well say it: I really wish you posted a blog post more often (every day?)! I love reading your posts but always wish there was more!!! 🙂 I'm sure that it takes a lot of your time to do every post and so maybe an every day thing is just not feasible, but you can't blame a girl for wishing/hoping, can ya?

      I'm not sure Mrs. M, I moderate comments and publish groups of comments throughout the day whenever I heave time to check, but this is the first comment I'm seeing from you?!? I've heard before that sites like very jane as well as others (group dealz, etsy, etc.) have had knock offs too, but I've never seen them in person and I have been told that the necklace quality was questionable. Since I actually had seen and touched the Accessory Concierge version, I felt comfortable passing it on as an option!

    So fun to see a splurge/steal post. I don't understand the crazies on FB complaining about AC stealing the design from S&D. That's between the two companies anyway. I think it's nice of you to share this with your readers who may not be able to afford the S&D version. Don't let the haters discourage you. Sounds like the ladies who have bought the 'steal' version are very happy about it. Focus on that 🙂

    Although the two do look alike, one can tell that the steal looks yellow. Stella and Dot makes quality jewelry that can be worn for a long time! They also use quality materials to ensure your neck won't turn or akin won't be irritated! While the steal price is tempting…you get what you pay for and if replacing it is what you want, go for it! If quality is what you want, host a party or become a stylist. Then you can get it free or at a discounted price! Good luck with your steals!

      Stella Dot jewelry is good quality which is why it's $89. This is a steal and it's good enough for me because I honestly don't know how timeless this design is. Alhih SD's jewelry is beautiful, it is still on trend, costume jewelry-I have many pieces of "real" SD that I love but I have had some pieces break, some pieces not look so great after a year or so. Not everyone wants to host a party and beg their friends to buy some expensive jewelry so they can get a discount or free pieces (although I've done it). She's offering her readers a way to buy or even just try this style at a great discount.
