Today isn’t about clothes or shopping, it’s about something that actually matters.
Today is MANDA MONDAY.
And the post today is all about my precious friend Manda.
Manda is 33 years old, and tomorrow she is going to start fighting cancer.
For the 3rd time.
 
Manda first battled and beat cancer at the age of five years old. Two
weeks after giving birth to her first child, at the age of 28, the
cancer resurfaced, resulting in the tough decision to amputate her leg AND undergo treatment and begin the fight once more. Now, five years after winning her second
battle with cancer, Manda will have to face this terrible battle again
for the third time. 
Manda’s cancer is an extremely rare form of Sarcoma, but her family has determination and hope to beat it again. Above all,
she has faith and an overflowing amount of prayer and 
encouragement from
so many touched by her story.
Manda is a wife to Aaron, and a mom to 5 year old Aiden and 1 year old Miley.
She is also a daughter, a sister, and a friend to many.
And she is one of the kindest people you will ever meet.
Manda is BRAVE and FAITHFUL and she knows she serves a HUGE God.
But she is also of course scared about going through all of this again.
So let’s gather together and do everything we can to help Manda beat this!
So what can WE do to help?
Well, lots of things!
Those of us that are closest to her have formed dozens of committees to make this fight a little less overwhelming.  We’ve got a committee for yard work, meals, child care, grocery store runs, special projects, child pick-up, fundraisers, etc.
But there are also lots of things that those of you that don’t personally know Manda can still do to help.  And I know Manda and her family would be so appreciative!

First and foremost, we can all PRAY LIKE CRAZY.
We would like to encourage you to put her on your prayer list, put her on your prayer lists at church, and pray on behalf of this sweet and precious family.

Right now we are praying that her appointment today with her Naturopath goes well (this past Thursday she had an appointment with her doctors at MD Anderson and on Friday she had an appointment with her oncologist in Dallas).  
We are praying that her appointment today GIVES HER HOPE!!!
Other immediate prayer needs:
That the surgery to put in her port (for the chemo that starts tomorrow) goes well this afternoon.
That her heart (which is weak from previous treatments) will gain strength.
That when making the final decisions on her new treatment plan, there is clarity with both doctors and family members.

As you can see, there are so many different avenues for all of us to help Manda.
Manda would be so incredibly grateful for even the smallest of gestures.
Let’s all join together to help Manda fight cancer AND BEAT CANCER again!
I just know that Manda is going to be completely overwhelmed with the outpouring of prayers, love, and financial support!

A couple of Friday’s ago, just a handful of days after Manda got the diagnosis, our friend Narci moved up her scheduled session with Manda’s family so they could get their annual pictures done before she began treatment.
Our Bible Study group decided to show up at the end of her pictures to let her know once again that she was not going to be going through this alone.
Manda knows that we are all on her team!
(Thank you to Narci’s friend Emily for coming to take pictures of our group.)
We are Manda’s cheerleaders and her prayer warriors and we will be doing anything and everything we can to help her on every single step of this journey.

But she can always use more cheerleaders and prayer warriors.

    Prayers for Manda and her family. No more cancer. My dad had a heart transplant that led to Lymphoma. Chemo, radiation and stem cell transplant, he's back. God is great and heals us inside and out.

    Manda, You are one tough, amazing, and inspirational woman. You got this. You kicked cancer's butt when you were only 5 years old. Let the love from God and your huge group of amazing friends give you peace while you fight it again. One day at a time. Just take it bit by bit and stomp right over it as you have done before.

    Sending prayers for peace and strength. What a beautiful family and supportive group of friends! My 8 year old daughter Maddie is battling a rare sarcoma for her second time. She too was first diagnosed at 5 years old. Manda, you are so brave and strong, my sweet girl will be fighting right along with you!

    WOW!!! While the Lord has called Manda to walk a difficult road, He sure has blessed her with a family of THE BEST friends to walk it with her . . . Love you Sheaffer!     Prayers for your friend. Lots of them. I lost my sister to cancer at the age of 39. She was an amazing Mom to 3 beautiful kids, a wife, a friend, and the very best sister anyone could ask for. She was all a woman of Christ, as a co-pastor with her husband. Amanda reminds me of her. I can see the kindness in her eyes and the sweetness in her smile. May God lift her up and give her the strength she needs to beat this once and for all. Stay strong, Amanda!!!!

    Father God, my heart is just breaking for this family. It is so hard to not know the "whys." Lord, encourage Manda today. Help she, her family and her friends feel your presence today so there is not doubt its you. I pray you give the Drs wisdom in treatment and the family discernment in decisions.

I will be praying for Amanda and her family, that they would feel his presence go before them, stand beside them, and guard their back. I will also be praying for you and your group of friends, that you would be strengthened emotionally as you pour yourselves out for your friend.

    Thank you for this post, Sheaffer. As a Mom of a cancer survivor, this really hit home. My son is 18 now and doing well. He has been cancer-free for many years, but to say that I never think about it coming back would be a lie. It's always there, but I don't let it overwhelm me. FAITH OVER FEAR, right? I know how much it blessed us to have the support of our friends and family…and even from people we didn't know…during my son's treatment. All that you and your friends are doing for Manda…it DOES make a difference. Bless you. Prayers for your friend.

    My heart breaks for your sweet friend and her family. I know the hardship of a mother with cancer. My mom first had breast cancer when I was 11, went into remission, it came back in her lymph nodes, she went into remission, and then it came back in her lungs and she ultimately passed away when I was 18. No child should have to deal with losing a parent. Manda is so lucky to have such amazing friends like you all who are praying for her. My thoughts are with her and her family and hoping that her treatment cures her once and for all. She is a fighter! She can beat this.

It really is the best medicine, but so often we get blinded in the midst of life's storms that we forget to use the remedies (prayer, meditating on scriptures) that are most accessible to us.
