Well girls, it’s 2017. HOW IN THE WORLD DID THIS HAPPEN? How are we half way through Carter’s 2nd grade year? HOW? WHY? I’m going to need everything to SLOW IT’S ROLL for just a bit. #pleaseandthankyou
So we ended 2016 on the blog with a bang by naming a new MUST HAVE. (Click HERE for the post in case you missed it on Friday.) And today I’m talking with Nordstrom about two simple sweater and jeans looks…both shown with THE NEW MUST HAVE BOOTS. I’m wearing the same jewelry, the same jeans, and the same boots….I just changed out the cream sweater for a black sweater. Nothing ground breaking here, but all of the pieces I have on today are great staples to have in your closet.
Let’s start out with the cream sweater. There’s nothing fancy about this sweater, just a basic cream color that’s not too fitted, and not too over-sized. I’m wearing a small, so it’s true to size. You can’t get much more classic than a cream sweater, jeans, and riding boots. I styled it with gold jewelry and topped it off with a fun fringe bag.

And for those of you that prefer the non-selfie shots….we managed to grab one of those for you as well! I’m absolutely loving my new jeans. More on those in just a second!
Get the look for yourself here by clicking on the item you are interested in. Remember, there’s confusion over what color my boots are. I ordered the “cookie dough” color on the far right, but the boots I received were the color above. I would have thought that I just got the wrong pair of boots shipped to me, except for the fact that lots of other readers and online reviewers had the same experience I did. I would say about half of the people say their boots seem to be the true “cookie dough” color, while the other half say their color is similar to the boots I received. I loved the boots so much, that I ended up keeping them in spite of the fact that the color wasn’t what I was expecting. Yes, they’re that good.
And now for pretty much the exact same outfit, but with a black sweater. Again, a closet staple that everybody needs. Personally, over the years I’ve added 3 black sweaters to my closet that are always on consistent rotation: a classic crew neck, a v-neck, and a turtleneck tunic sweater. They are easy to dress up or down, and they go with pretty much everything.

Here are some other black sweater options, since my exact one is sold out.

And in case you want a close up of any of the above items, I’ve got you covered! First up, the jeans. I get a lot of reader requests for jeans that aren’t distressed. THESE are my favorite boot cut jeans (without any distressing) that I’ve had for awhile, but I haven’t had a pair of non-distressed skinny jeans I loved that I could recommend to y’all…UNTIL NOW. THESE SKINNY JEANS are Vigoss, they have some good stretch to them, and not only are there no holes…there’s not even any distressing! SCORE! They tucked into my tall boots very easily…and since they hit me right at the ankle, they are also good for booties, flats, and converse. Now, I know a lot of you let the junior’s sizing scare you, but don’t. These are a perfect mid-rise…..not too high, not too low…and you won’t be tugging on them all day. I’m a 4, and the 27s were perfect on me.
The fringe bag also deserved a close up. It doesn’t have a lot of structure to it, but I liked the slouchy vibe. The braid and fringe details are a lot of fun (and make the bag look really expensive). In fact, one of the online reviewers said she had a friend mistake it for a Chloe bag! It’s also got a great lining (see pic online), and I love a good lining.
And of course the boots. Also with a super fun lining! If you want to know more about the boots and what other people think about them, click HERE to check out my facebook post where a ton of readers commented professing their love. Not only do they look great, but all the girls were going on and on about how comfy they are. One girl said she walked over New York in them, and one said she walked all over Europe in them! I’m thinking that’s a rousing endorsement!
And just for fun, I have the above outfits in a side by side for you, with THIS military jacket thrown over the top. If you order this military jacket (it’s a great one), be sure to order 1 size down. I like that it covers my back side and that it has a fun collar that stands up!
So that’s it for outfits today, ladies. But before you go, I have a very important question: Do you remember what’s going down tonight? It’s THE BACHELOR premier with Nick! Ahhhhh! See you back here on Wednesday for my recap! Click HERE if you are new around these parts and want to see what these Bachelor recaps are all about! Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!

I ordered that cute v-neck sweater with ruffles last week. It shows it should be delivered this week. I’ll keep you posted!! And those boots…all the heart eyes, friend! XOXO I miss your face!
Jessica says
Did your rayne necklace tassel fall? Was wondering bc I’m thinking of purchasing but didn’t know about quality
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jessica! I actually bought my necklace without the tassel, but they no longer carry it. I have a necklace with the tassel too (in a different color), and I prefer that one. I’ve had the tassel necklace for over 3 years, and I’ve never had an issue with it. And it dresses everything up! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I love your blog! Just wanted to comment that I love your selfie pictures. I feel it’s more personal when I actually see your face. It’s like we are friends without ever meeting!
Sheaffer says
Awww, thanks Vanessa! That’s very sweet of you to say! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Love it! !
Holli says
So I commented on your fb last week that I tried these boots and returned them because of the calf width. I absolutely adored everything else about them so it was SO hard letting them go! Well..I saw your comment about the adjustable buckle and decided to give them another go! Why didn’t I notice that?! I’ve given up on finding the perfect fit for my calves. Bummed that the price is a bit higher than when I originally got them during Black Friday, but at least they were still on sale! 😉
Sheaffer says
Hi, Holli! I hope the buckle works for you!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Christina says
Hi..I am considering the the cream and/or black sweater (it’s about time I bit the bullet and got better staples)! How do you think this would do with a shirt/blouse under it?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Christina! I personally don’t do that very often (I can’t seem to do it well without looking bulky), but I think it would be great for that because it’s a little bit roomy! I have a couple of friends that do it all the time and it always looks great on them! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Oh man! I have the Halogen cashmere sweater sitting in a shopping cart. It’s a very similar cut to this sweater and I love Madewell! If you had to choose between the Halogen cashmere or this Madewell sweater, which would it be? I’m curious if you’ve had any pilling problems like the reviewer mentioned.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kelli! I prefer the Halogen because it’s not as chunky. I haven’t had any pilling problems with my Halogen sweater, but I haven’t had it that long. I’ve only worn it 3 times so far. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I have another pair of Vigross jeans. I think they were called The Jagger. While I love them because they are SOOO comfortable, they are still a bit big in the waist which makes them sag. I had ordered one size smaller so now I’m wondering if I need to order two sizes smaller in this jean. Are they really soft and stretchy (like the Jagger jeans)? Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Vanessa! They aren’t as soft and stretchy as the Jagger (the ones I call the pajama jeans!), so you might still be okay! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I ordered the boots last week, and I can’t wait to get them in! Thanks so much for the recommendation!
Rachel Miller says
I have a Nordstrom question! I ordered some rain boots for my daughter for Christmas, but they were too small. I sent them back by mail to exchange them, but they credited my account and then recharged me the higher price. (I had purchased them on sale.) Is that their process? I was hoping they would just do an even exchange. They’re the same boots just a different size.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Rachel! I’m pretty sure if you call their customer service line that they will credit you the difference! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
