It’s not flannel….it’s very pliable and breathable.
It will be easy to layer under jackets because of the fabric.
5 Different Ways to WORK a Plaid Shirt!
Here’s a breakdown of what you are about to see:
1) with leggings and tall boots
2) with flare jeans and booties
3) with skinny ankle jeans and leopard flats
4) with cuffed skinny jeans and booties (same jeans as #3)
5) outfit #4 with a military jacket thrown on top
I think Outfit #1 is my favorite of all the outfits. Because I felt like I was in pajamas.
That’s a win in my book.
The leggings are several inches too long on me (which is good news for you tall girls, I’m 5’4″), but since I only wear mine with boots, I just cuff them up without any problems!
Get The Look For Yourself Here. Remember, my leggings are the graphite heather. I recommend them over the black!
OUTFIT #2:
This time I did a 1/2 tuck with flare jeans and ankle booties!
plaid shirt (I’m wearing a small.)/ flare jeans (I’m wearing a 27, so I think they are true to size.)/ similar booties (love these)
jewelry: earrings / arrow necklace / signature necklace (antique gold finish)
long necklace not yet available / bracelets not yet available
And remember, I talked about THESE BOOT CUT JEANS (just under $60!) on Friday…and MANY readers commented that they already own them and adore them. If you don’t think you are quite ready for a flare jean, just get a great boot cut!
Then I threw on the the shirt with a pair of ankle skinny jeans and kicked up the sassy factor by pairing the plaid with leopard flats! Pointy toe leopard flats at that!
Years ago I never would have mixed plaid with leopard (in fact, I remember buying my leopard flats and wondering if I would ever wear them), but MAN WAS I WRONG. Love my leopard flats.
similar distressed skinny jeans / similar pointy toe leopard flats / leather tote (use code PTMTSAVE10 for 10% OFF)
My tote is the St. Anne tote in the Florentine Leather. (Barrington is still having issues with their links. Sorry!)
jewelry: earrings / arrow necklace / signature necklace (antique gold finish) / long necklace not yet available / bracelets not yet available
Remember, this isn’t just my name, it’s my actual signature!
Mine is the 16″ chain in the antique gold finish (the material is resin).
And lately I’ve been layering my dainty arrow necklace with just about everything!

And here’s the pair of similar (minimally) distressed skinny jeans I found.

OUTFIT #4:
I took the skinny ankle jeans from Outfit #3, cuffed them, and paired them with some neutral booties.
Easy switch out of the shoes, but the booties and the cuffed jeans changed up the look!
similar distressed skinny jeans/ similar booties (but these have a little dip in the front which makes them great for dresses and skirts as well)
jewelry: earrings / arrow necklace / signature necklace (antique gold finish) / long necklace not yet available / bracelets not yet available
It’s the same outfit as #4, but I just threw on THIS jacket to show how it looks layered!
So, this jacket is awesome.
No, I’m not keeping it for myself (because I already have 2 long ones like this…don’t judge….one has a sweater back and one is more like a rain parka…they are very different) :), but I’d received a handful of e-mails asking for an affordable military jacket that was currently available that covered the rear end.
I saw this one online, it was affordable at $64, and I really liked the gathered back and the fact that the waist was adjustable.
Now, you should know this. When it arrived, it was rolled up into a ball and tied up.
I have no earthly idea why it shipped like this, but it did. So it was a wrinkled mess when I first took it out of the ball…but after hanging for a bit, the wrinkles did fall out.

I would normally wear a small in a jacket like this, but I saw that it said a “medium” was considered a 5-7 (even though I think a medium would normally be considered a 7-9). So, I ordered the medium. A small would have definitely been too small across the back and in the chest, so I definitely needed the medium.

So that’s it for today girls.

Puffer vests are also hard to find this year. Last year I feel like they were everywhere! And I wanted a pink one ?
Happylife38 says
Yes, thank you: I agree 100%. And I am so tired of Northface and such only offering hot pink ones. For years all I have seen is hot pink. I want a lighter pink. And the puffer is not puffer quality as it used to be either. I have browsed every site…and nothing 🙁
Candace Wall says
I love the plaid shirt with the leggings! It is so darn cute and comfy! I purchased the STS jeans from the Anniversary Sale, but I also love the look of the Loft flares. In your opinion, having tried them both on, what is your favorite fit? I love your blog and thanks for the information. ( I am having technical difficulties with my connection, so sorry if this was sent multiple times! haha)
Sheaffer says
Hi Candace! Hmmmm…they are different. The STS are much more stretchy, and I actually like how they are super fitted…but I feel like the LOFT ones might hold up better. Sorry I'm not more help!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂 p.s. Thanks for the sweet words about the blog!

Shaeffer, my dear, you know this….Nordstrom offers free hemming! Go get those leggings hemmed 🙂 Its one of the best things about shopping there! Xoxo

I'm dying… so I bought that exact plaid shirt last week and agreed that it was the absolute perfect plaid shirt- the flowy material, button tab for the cuffs, comfort,…. but I had second thoughts about it due to the length in the back (I'm 5'3") as it just went so low in back, like a dress (is the back length not too long on you?) So I had Nordstrom tailor the length and I've been having second thoughts about it all weekend (yes these things haunt me when I lie in bed at night..shhhh…) and coincidentally what do I see featured on your blog this morning but the exact shirt! And you're about my height and you're rocking it! So after reading your post crazy me calls up Nordstrom saying "Stop the alteration!" and lucky me they haven't started it yet. Whew!! That was a close call. So picking up my shirt today and will see if it the length works with my different outfits too 😉 I also tried it with charcoal leggings and I have those exact Frye boots (which I love) and it is a great outfit. And so comfy! I will definitely try pairing it with my leopard flats- so cute! (My hubby won't get it 😉 ) I also tried on that exact military jacket but didn't get it, but now that I see it on you I think I will have to go back and get it! The Hinge military jacket is also great and it's a bit heavier. Oh, and thanks for the heads up for the price matching of the Phillip Frye boots! Can't wait to get them. Do I sound crazy? I am. Just found your blog recently, love it! But girl my wallet needs a break! Lol P.S. love the long horn necklace, perfect with the shirt 😉
Sheaffer says
This made me lol! THANK HEAVENS! I think you'll be happy with it without the alterations!!!! 🙂

Hi! Love your blog. Thanks for styling us all. 😉 I was wondering if you could do a bridesmaid/wedding edition? I think it would be fun for you and Shay to highlight bridesmaid jewelry or special items just for wedding. Like if you were to go back and get married again… how would you style your ladies? As a newly engaged gal, I would love any tips in the planning process and I am sure other girls would enjoy as well! Thank you. 🙂

Hi there! Hmmm…..let me think about this and see if I can come up with something!

does the shirt run true to size?
Sheaffer says
Hi Jill! Yes, it's true to size! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
ABBY says
Are the skinny jeans skinny enough to wear with the Frye boots? Or do you have a good recommendation on jeans to wear with tall boots? I am dont feel very comfortable in leggings and I'm in the market for new jeans to tuck into taller boots. I purchased some of the Vigoss jeans you have linked to and love them. Especially because I wore a smaller size than normal 😉 Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi Abby! The jeans I'm wearing are sold out (they are AG), but I think the ones I linked do look skinny enough to tuck into boots!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 😉

Heather P. says
I bought the plaid shirt! And I love your blog 🙂 I saw one review on Nordstrom's site that says the shirt shrunk. Just curious if you've laundered yours yet & if you noticed any shrinkage?
Thanks!
Heather
Sheaffer says
Hi Heather! I dry cleaned mine (but I dry clean a lot of my clothes that I technically don't have to), so I didn't have any shrinking issues. Can anybody else comment on how this does in the wash? xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sarah Baum says
Do you know when the long necklace will be available? I am dying over it, love it so much! Love your blog!
Sheaffer says
Hi Sarah! I have bad news. 🙁 they found out that the aren't going to be able to produce the necklace. So sorry!!!!!
