Today is Part II of JEANS with Nordstrom. See Part I HERE to check out my 3 favorite blue jeans. Today I’m talking about my grey and black jeans! We all know I’m a jeans girl and wear them almost every single day, but I do like mixing it up with white, black, and grey jeans as well! With a pair of skinny ankle cords and/or camo pants thrown in for good measure…but that’s a post for another day. And just FYI, there is going to be an entire post dedicated to the MUST HAVE leggings and tunics in the next couple of weeks, so get ready for that!
Today, let’s start out today with my black jeans.
BLACK JEANS
Here are 3 e-mails I’ve received over the last month after I first posted about the jeans. I think it helps to see what other people think about items as well! They are all great, but this first one is my favorite!
e-mail #1: Hi Sheaffer! I’ve been following your blog for a couple of years now after my mom recommended it to me. My mom, my 3 sisters, my aunt, and my 2 cousins all follow actually. It’s a lot of fun that we share this together! 5 out of the 8 of us own the ab-solution black jeans. We range in age from 23-62 and sizes 2-12 and they work on all 5 of us that have tried them! These jeans are amazing and we are all so glad that we found them! Brittany S.
e-mail #2: First, the Wit and Wisdom black jeans When I took them out of the package, I thought they didn’t feel like jeans at all, more like stretch pants. As I approach my 55 birthday, I want to avoid the term “stretch pants” at all costs. When I tried them on, I really liked the way they felt. They felt like jeans but they didn’t cut or bind anywhere. I wore them to church yesterday and let me just say there was some extra praising going on because of those jeans. You know you are hitting the mark when your sweet young 20 something new mom friend tells you the jeans look great and wants to know where they came from. Being tall with a long inseam, I buy most of my jeans from the Gap since they have tall lengths. I have two pair of Vigoss jeans that you recommended and love them too. These jeans will definitely be in constant rotation! – Patty
e-mail #3: Sheaffer, I have to thank you. Because of you I have found my absolute favorite pair of jeans! The weather here in PA is finally cool enough that I could wear them and I cannot express how much I love them and how comfortable they are. LIFE. CHANGING. I love how thin they make me look and how I just feel “sucked in” all day. They look fabulous! Thank you so much! Susan
Thanks for the e-mails, girls! I love hearing about when people love things just as much as I do!
So…let’s get to some outfits with these magical jeans. 😉 Here’s a simple outfit with my new favoite top (in sphinx). I’m wearing a 4 in the jeans, so I think they are true to size, but they are very fitted. If you want a bit of a looser fit, then I suggest sizing up. I’m wearing a small in the top, so I think it’s true to size, but it is very blousy. If you are worried about that, then size down.

If you missed my first review on this top …the best thing about it is that I’m NOT doing a 1/2 tuck here. It’s MADE THIS WAY! Twisted, drapey, short in the front….and long in the back!

So let’s talk a bit more about THE JEANS. Again, I’m wearing the 27 (4), so I think they are true to size. The tag is still on them in the picture because I was trying to decide if I needed to size up (they were very snug when I first put them on)….but they have so much stretch in them, that I decided to keep the 4 (in case they stretch with multiple wears). They SUCK YOU IN in all the right places, and they will just make you feel great! (Flats HERE, but only 3 sizes remaining. Similar pair HERE with 2 sizes left.)
Here’s a black jeans outfit that I’m looking forward to wearing once it’s cool enough! I LOVE pairing chambray, black, and cognac together…throw in a pop of red and turquoise and some leopard and I’m over the moon!

So the black jeans are from the brand Wit and Wisdom. If you didn’t see my first post about them, you need to click HERE really quickly to learn about the Wit and Wisdom jeans with the “ab-solution” technology. You can see me in the black skinny jeans, but all of the jeans in the collage below have the technology! Click HERE for the facebook post where lots of readers profess their love for these jeans! People are BIG OL’ FANS of this brand.
Click HERE to see all of the jeans currently available. Two of the jeans in the below collage are no longer available…but there are some new ones available!!! Holly – did you hear that? Maybe you should add a new pair to your collection! 😉

Okay, time to talk about grey jeans!
GREY JEANS
So, sadly my grey jeans are just about sold out (it happened this week when they went 50% OFF), although I do see sizes re-stocking here and there. So don’t necessarily look at the rest of this post for my specific jeans, just check out the kind of outfits you can put together with grey jeans. Because Caslon’s grey jeans might be close to being sold out, but the grey jeans from Wit and Wisdom are still well stocked!
Click HERE for the grey Wit and Wisdom jeans (seen directly below). Some reviewers say true to size, some say they run a little small. If they fit like the black ones that I have, I tend to agree. My size 4 black jeans are quite snug. My size 4 itty bitty boot cut jeans are much more comfortable. So, if between sizes, you might want to consider sizing up. Just read through the reviews and decide what is best for you!
Here I am in my MUST HAVE shirt (ON SALE for ONLY $27.90!) and grey jeans. I felt like the entire outfit was very slenderizing, which is always a plus! You can see the shirt with the 1/2 top on the left, and worn like a tunic on the right.

Here’s a close up of my jeans. Some some they are true to size, some sized down. I got a 27P, but they are now out of petites. These jeans would be very easy to hem, and I think it would definitely be worth it if you needed a shorter length. Also notice the SUPER cute black booties c.o. Sole Society, but also available at Nordstrom. But again, click HERE for a similar pair of grey jeans that are fully stocked (and have awesome reviews)!
You saw this top on me with blue jeans on Wednesday’s post, but I knew it would look great with grey jeans too! I didn’t have time to throw the outfit on, but look how cute it’s going to be together! I absolutely love grey with pink.

I have a couple of old pics as well with my grey jeans. I want you to see how versatile these are!
This is this year’s version of the MUST HAVE Shirt! For size reference, I’m wearing a small. In previous years I’ve sized down to an x-small, but I went with my regular size this year. Now remember, in year’s past, I’ve highly recommended the black. I’m hesitant to recommend other colors because most of them tend to show way too many wrinkles. But this year, this deep purple color spoke to me. When it arrived, it was covered in wrinkles, but I threw it in the dryer by itself for about 10 minutes, and it came out looking great! And just fyi, although I do dry clean mine, several readers say they wash theirs on delicate, pop them in the dry for several minutes, and then hang to dry the rest of the way.
I’m loving how the light taupe bag really brightens up the outfit. Mine is sold out, but I think I like this one even better HERE.

And another older shot….this red cardigan sweater is definitely another favorite. For size reference, I’m wearing an x-small. I loved it paired with grey, leopard, and cognac…for what I think is a perfect fall look! And the tee is perfectly slouchy and drapes perfectly, without being sloppy (and ONLY $24!). I’m doing a 1/2 tuck in this pic, so it’s longer than shown (but still not long). I sized up and am wearing a medium in the tee.

Remember this outfit? The poncho IS NOW ON SALE! It’s sooooo soft, and I think it’s going to be very versatile. I like it because it’s not boxy like a lot of ponchos out there. It drapes nicely, is very soft, and is actually very flattering! And if you notice, the light bag is brightening up the outfit again!

And my last outfit! A simple fall colored tee with black booties!

Well, I hope I made a case for the versatility of grey and black jeans. You’ll certainly be seeing them in a lot of future posts, including some additional looks on Monday. A huge THANKS to Nordstrom for sponsoring this 2 part series on jeans! Hope ya’ll have a great weekend! The little fella turns 8 tomorrow, so we have big plans to celebrate our sweet boy all weekend!

Those black jeans are so cute!! Love them! Also, can’t wait to celebrate our sweet Carter!! So exciting!!

I bought the black jeans, and everything you say about them is true. I’m one of the fans! I have grey jeans from last year, but I’m excited about all of the outfit ideas from this post! Thank you!
Erika Slaughter says
You’re working those new tall boots! They are darling! I can’t wait to see you in person with those beauties. I had a hard time focusing on the jeans because the booties distracted me. 🙂
Erin says
So many cute items in this post! I have a pair of dark blue Wit and Wisdom jeans that you posted about a long time ago and love them! I am really loving your sister’s work wear posts! I think it would be fun to see her take some of the items you post about and show them in work appropriate outfits. For example the twist front top with slim fit black pants and high heels. Or the must have Pleone blouse with a skirt or slacks. Keep up the good work even though my checkbook hates it!
Sheaffer says
Great idea, Erin! Sadly, the twist front top won’t fit her (she’s so tiny), but I can certainly do it with other items! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I have the wit and wisdom grey jeans and highly recommend them. They look great, fit perfectly, and are a fair price.
melodie says
I think it was 2 years ago that i bought a pair of wit and wisdom from your recommendation. And i believe they were boyfriend jeans. When i first put them on they looked great. I could not have gone a size smaller…they started snug but cute. But 5 hours or so later they had stretched too much to even look cute anymore. So i washed and dried after each wear to shrink them back to the perfect fit. After 4 wears the button popped off leaving a hole. Since i was already disappointed in the stretch and how they needed to be laundered after each wear, i took the opportunity to return them instead of doing an exchange. I haven’t tried wit and wisdom since then because i felt like the quality was questionable. I want to like this absolution line…but do they stretch out like the others? I want my jeans to fit consistent for at least 2 or 3 wears. But i won’t spend $100+ on them.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Melodie! So sorry that you’ve had a bad experience. 🙁 I don’t own a pair of Wit and Wisdom boyfriend jeans, but it’s possible that I highlighted them one day for sure. I’ve had a pair of dark wash skinnies for over a year, and there are holding up great! I probably wash them every 3 wears or so, and I’ve never had a problem with them. These with the ab-solution technology are completely different, so you might want to give them a try to see if you love them! Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jennifer says
I have both the black and grey skinnies with the Absolution and booty lift technology (amazing!). Love them. So I’ll be pinning several of these looks for inspiration once it cools down a little bit more here and I can break out the jeans and boots!
Kim says
I have the twist front blouse you are wearing in the post and love it. I just bought mine though and haven’t worn it yet. Can you tell me if it is okay to wash in cold water instead of dry cleaning it? Mine seems to be pretty wrinkled out of the bag so I am planning to use a cool iron on it. Do you have any advice on that?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kim! I will dry clean mine, but tons of readers say they wash their LUSH tops with great success! Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Erin says
I was so excited for this post! I have gray jeans from last year, but need to hem them. What would you suggest? Right to ankle for flats, then rolled once for booties? Also, I have several of your Pleione must have, and I’m trying to see what the difference is on this years…no pleat in front? Run smaller? I haven’t tried the Lush must have because I read here that some people thought the arms were small – and I love the knit arms on the Pleione SO much I didn’t want to chance it! But what would you suggest? Branch out to Lush or stick with Pleione…thanks!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Erin! About the hemming, I would suggest right at the ankle for flats and then depending on the height of your bootie, you might do a double cuff…or you might just do a tiny turn up just the size of the hem! I’ve last track of which Pleione shirts are from which years, so I can’t really comment on the difference..but I think you’re right that the pleat. And I don’t think it runs quite as large this year. Concerning the LUSH shirt, the arms aren’t tight on me at all, and it’s just a totally different look. If you want to get a color, I would recommend the LUSH shirt because the colors don’t wrinkle like the Pleione ones do!
Erin says
Thank you!!!
Cariann says
I loved this post! You are darling and you’ve helped me branch out and try new things, making my wardrobe much more fun. Thank you so much!! I was able to snag a pair of the Caslon grey jeans. Can hardly wait for their arrival. XO
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the sweet words, Cariann! So glad you got a pair of the jeans. You’ll love them! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kelly says
Is your Kendra Scott necklace yellow gold or rose gold? It looks yellow on my computer screen but I can only find it in rose, so I think my screen is distorting the color. Also, I ordered the absolution jeans in both black and gray from the Anniversary Sale and I absolutely love them both!! I have only worn designer jeans for a number of years and was very hesitant to try these, but you sold me on them so I decided to give them a shot. Well, I love them and my wallet loves them even more!! So thank you!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kelly! It’s rose gold! So glad you love the jeans!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I bought the Lush twist front shirt today in fig, I absolutely love it! I don’t think I would have ever tried it on if I hadn’t seen it on you first, thank you!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Lisa! I got the fig in th email, and it’s definitely my favorite one! The color is so pretty! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I may or may not have “accidentally” ordered the must have shirt. Or at least that’s what I’m telling my husband. 😉
