One of my favorite things to do on the blog is show you several ways to style an item. I know it’s so easy to get stuck into outfit ruts, so I think it’s quite helpful to be given ideas for new and different ways to wear things.
Usually I take one piece like a shirt or a pair of shoes, and I show you multiple ways to wear that piece.
Today is a bit different because I’m going to focus on a base outfit with black jeans and a simple grey sweater. You’re going to see that outfit, and then you are going to see that base outfit styled 2 additional ways.
OUTFIT #1: BLACK JEANS AND GREY SWEATER with NEUTRAL ACCESSORIES
The base outfit today is simple and made up of two basic pieces that most of you probably already have in your closet: a pair of black jeans and a grey sweater.
But even with the base pieces, I mixed it up a bit.
I think most people would initially think to style the sweater and jeans with black booties and a black bag, which would of course look great. But to make it a bit more interesting, I styled them with a neutral pair of shoes and a fun striped bag.

This grey cashmere sweater is lovely and can be thought of as an investment piece. It’s on the expensive side, but I think the quality makes it worth it.
You might remember that last year I bought the crewneck version in both black and camel, and I wore the absolute heck out of both of them. They are great on their own, and they are perfect for layering as well.

The striped cross body bag is adorable. It’s small, but big enough for my phone, some makeup essentials, and a card case with my license and credit cards. I got this back in the Spring, but it’s proving itself to be a year round bag.

You will see this bracelet combo in all 3 outfits in today’s post.

This “tan camel” is just the neutral I was looking for in a great pair of neutral wedge sneakers, but they come in black too. They are very easy to get on with the side zip and heel tab, and the the comfort level is ON POINT. I think a wedge sneaker like this is an essential part of a Fall wardrobe. True to size for me.

So, take a good look at the base pieces (that you probably already own). Now I’m going to show you two different ways to style them…

OUTFIT #2: BLACK JEANS AND GREY SWEATER with “LEATHER” JACKET AND FUN SNEAKERS
This is the same base outfit, but funkified a bit with a drape front faux leather jacket and cool sneakers.

A couple of years ago I invested in a real drape front leather jacket that I grabbed on super sale.
I love my jacket, but I realize that not everybody would want to invest in a piece like this, so this drape front faux leather jacket is a great option. It’s lightweight, super soft, and has some give to it as well. And I love how it lends some edge to the outfit. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

THESE SNEAKERS just might be my favorite item I’ve added to my closet this season.
They have all the bells and whistles that these designer sneaks do at a much more affordable price point. They are also insanely cushy and comfortable. I’m a big ol’ fan. I’m wearing my regular size, but if between sizes, I would size down a 1/2. UPDATE: Now that I’ve had them for a bit, I would definitely recommend sizing down a 1/2. They’ve stretched out a bit, and I wish they were a little more fitted now.

I feel like this outfit is very New York.
But maybe that’s because I’m from Texas. Haha!

OUTFIT #3: BLACK JEANS AND GREY SWEATER with CAMO JACKET AND NEUTRAL BOOTIES
Y’all have seen this camo jacket several times before, but I’ve always styled it with a white tee and blue denim. I thought it looked great layered on top of the black and grey, and I’m totally wondering why I’ve never thought to do it before. Sometimes when I do these Style It Again posts I definitely push myself to come up with new ways to wear things!

This camo jacket is another favorite addition to my closet. When I saw it online, I wasn’t interested at all. When I saw it on the hanger, I decided to give it a chance. After I slipped it on, I fell in love and ended up bringing it home with me. The hood is removable, so if you take it off, you have a more classic camo military style jacket.

It looks boxy and shapeless on the site, but that’s not the case at all! The waist can be cinched in and out, which really helps with styling. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. I would suggest sizing down if between sizes.

The blush pink hood and drawstrings add interest without being too cutesy or too pink.

These neutral block heel booties in “tortilla suede” are GORGEOUS. The color is beautiful and the stacked block heel is the perfect height (says 3 1/2″, but doesn’t feel that high at all). They are easy to walk in and quite comfy for a heeled bootie! I love these with skinny cropped jeans, with my boot cut jeans, and they’ll look good with Fall dresses too. True to size for me.
I love this last look.

I hope today inspired you with new ways to wear your simple grey sweater and black jeans. Get creative! Pull different pieces out of your closet that you might not have paired up before, and just see if it works. You might surprise yourself!
Right off the top of my head, here are a handful of other ways to wear the same base outfit:
*with OTK black boots (these are just under $100) and a black tote (under $40!)
*with a denim jacket thrown on top
*with a leopard belt and cognac booties
A huge thank you to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

I can’t get over how much I’m a fan of those sneakers!

What is the Amazon brand of Wit and Wisdom jeans?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Pamela! Democracy! I do find that I like Wit and Wisdom more. The Democracy jeans often have a different design on the back pockets..or sometimes even like a little button thing….and the Wit and Wisdom aren’t that much more. Just my 2 cents! xoxo
