I was going to wait until Friday Favorites to talk about this, but I just couldn’t.
Yep, I was too dang excited.
About a scarf.
But not just any scarf…..a MUST HAVE SCARF.
That’s right!
We’ve got another Pinterest Told Me To MUST HAVE girls!
Cue the oohs and ahhhhs!
the cardigan is old from GAP :(, elle earrings c/o Kendra Scott HERE, jeans HERE (loving my first designer jeans so much and they are still on sale!), nude patent flats HERE.
It’s $24, and I’m used to paying $18-$20 for a scarf, but I didn’t care. This scarf is totally worth the extra 4 bones. I showed serious restraint and only ordered the red.
They would make PERFECT Christmas gifts and AMAZING teacher gifts!
It’s soft, it’s cozy, it’s voluminous, and it totally styles itself.
I want to marry it.
And have cozy scarf babies with it.
I’m hoping it is WELL-STOCKED, but they wouldn’t give me any information over the phone. There could be 20 in each color. Or there could be 2,000 in each color. We have no way of knowing.
And just because I feel a public obligation…check out these next 2 scarves also…
they would both be GREAT for you to wear during upcoming family pics!
Always great to pile on the layers in pics!!!!
Click HERE for the red plaid infinity.
This one is light and airy, and perfectly voluminous!
Click HERE for the leopard infinity. $20.
So soft.
And it’s leopard.
Nuff said.
Okay….let’s get to today’s post!
Today we are talking about NYDJ.
Huh?
What’s NYDJ you ask?!?
Well, when I was initially asked by Nordstrom to talk about the brand NYDJ, I had never heard of the brand.
At least I thought I hadn’t.
I thought it stood for New York something, but when I realized it stood for “Not Your Daughter’s Jeans”, I realized I had in fact heard about it!
When I realized what NYDJ stood for, I was intrigued,
and I knew that some of you ladies would be interested!
The readers of this blog range from girls in junior high all the way up to grandmas. Grandmas who are super stylish I might add. 🙂
I’ve received e-mail after e-mail over the last year or so from some of my older readers asking me to highlight a pair of jeans for them. A good quality jean that wasn’t low-waisted….that wasn’t from the junior’s section….and that didn’t look like mom jeans.
Enter NYDJ.
I told Shay I was going to be doing this post and she texted me the following pictures from her
In Style magazine the very next day!
What’s that?
Look and Feel 1 size smaller?
Um…..What woman doesn’t want that?
I had never tried the jeans myself, but I was interested in them, and thought this would be a perfect way for me to try them out and give an open and honest review about my thoughts!
So, that’s what today is about! Thank you Nordstrom for giving me a little nudge to do so! 🙂
wanting a pair of grey jeans anyway!
The color is gorgeous, it’s a great fit, and at 40% OFF it’s a great deal too!!!!!
I tucked a cami into the jeans so you wouldn’t have to see my belly….you’re welcome….but I wanted you to see where the jeans hit on my waist.
These jeans are quite a bit higher than my normal jeans, they covered my pooch, they had a perfect amount of stretch in them to make them super comfortable, and the color was great.
I did realize immediately that at 5’4″ I totally should have ordered the petite for myself.
They were way too long to not cuff, but they weren’t really made to cuff, so they looked a little awkward with the booties.
To be honest, I didn’t love the jeans on me, they were just too high waisted than what I’m used to.
HOWEVER.
I did LOVE the fact that they met the requirements for great jeans that so many of you had e-mailed me about!
I knew I had readers that would want to know about these jeans!
And sooooo many of the styles of pants available from NYDJ (see all of them HERE) have incredible reviews.
This particular pair has 110 5 STAR REVIEWS!
AND THEY COME IN 9 COLORS!
I called Shay and I told her the jeans weren’t really for me, but that I thought they would fill a need out there for some of the ladies who had been e-mailing me.
Her in-laws were in town visiting for Kensington’s birthday, and her mother in law said she wanted to go to Nordstrom. When Shay asked what she was looking for, she told her NYDJ jeans!
She had purchased one pair online, had loved them, and purchased 3 more pair that weekend.
It’s all she wears now!
So, this gave me an idea.
I thought I needed to pass them on to my mom and see what she thought about them.
She keeps my sister’s baby during the day, she’s on the floor a lot, and she’s constantly telling me how she’s always yanking her jeans up
Well.
SHE LOVES THEM.
AND LOOK HOW DANG CUTE SHE IS IN THEM!!!!
Can we just take a minute to cross our fingers that I’m going to get this woman’s genes.
Hold on to your low waisted jeans girls, because I’m about to tell you her age.
She’s 67!
GO MAMA!
By the way, when I called to ask her if I could share her age, she told me to say that she was 72 and then everybody could could go on and on about how good she looks. Ha!
I told her I needed a waistband shot, and God bless her, she complied. 🙂
She also said that she had no idea how hard it was for me to get these shots until she had to do it herself!
I think she looks amazing.
And HELLO.
She is ROCKING black, brown, and grey together.
High Five Mama!
She’s wearing her 2014 MUST HAVE SHIRT, her Kimberly Necklace (don’t buy it today, I have a splurge vs. steal post coming up next week!!) and her Melissa Frye Button Boots .
Isn’t she just as cute as can be?
Early this morning 2 sweet readers left comments that I thought I should highlight so you wouldn’t miss them:
I’m like Shay’s mother in law. I tried a pair last year and now it’s
all I wear. I actually have 5 pair. 2 dark denim jeans, a colored pair
(caramel), a pair of cords (wine)and a pair of the black pants. I’m 54
and I tell all of my friends about the brand. Some of the dresses and
other pieces are a little to pricey for me, but I’m willing to pay the
price for the jeans because I feel like they are made for me. And I
actually do feel like I look smaller in them.
Anonymous
During the anniversary sale I took a chance and bought a pair of NYDJ
jeans and love them. I didn’t know about the “look one size smaller”
feature, but they are super comfy. The waist/tummy/hip fabric does fit
snugly, but not in that traditional way that makes you wish you bought
bigger jeans or would lose a few pounds. And the snugness doesn’t
encourage muffin top. They’re awesome jeans and I love them.
Gwen L.
Do you want to get the look for yourself? Well, here you go…
NYDJ grey jeans HERE
(some NYDJ grey jeans that are a little bit lighter and on sale HERE)
Frye Melissa Button Boots HERE
Kimberly necklace HERE
gold hoop earrings HERE
I actually liked these better, but needed a petite in them also, which they didn’t have in store.
For size reference, I did find that both the grey pair and this dark denim pair both ran true to size. I wore a 4 in both of them. Sorry, but this NYDJ sweater I tried on is now sold out. 🙁
Thanks again to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
I love a sponsored post that makes me step out of the box a bit and try something I might not have tried otherwise! I hope all of you ladies that have been searching for a pair of jeans like this will give them a try. If you do, please take the time to e-mail after you
get them to let me know what you think.
Also…if you are already a NYDJ fan…please leave your thoughts in the comments!
One more comment to share with you that I got on facebook this morning:
I know many will think these are just for older people! .
However I am 49 years old and so many pants/jeans have me tugging ALL
day long like I’m pulling my pants up. These are super stylish with so
many designs with a higher waist but not mom jeans!! I have the pants,
jeans, and cords. Highly recommend and you can stop tugging all day!
Kari R.
Before you go, I thought I would leave you with some other NYDJ pieces that are currently available.
As you will see in the shop the post feature below, NYDJ has more than just jeans (make sure you scroll to the right to see the purple colored blouse that I love!).
And they have a nice sized plus-size selection also (found HERE).
Ooooh! And I almost forgot to mention their cords found HERE.
See y’all back here on Friday for a great Friday Favorites round-up!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

I know I should go on and on about the scarves…and then the jeans…but seriously, it is your mama that stole my heart today! I mean, COME ON! How cute is she?!?! I know, I know…I know her…but seeing her in those jeans…eeeks! The cuteness! She looks so stinkin' good! I want those genes too :). Such a good post Sheaffer!

I love the ones that your mom is wearing and I don't have grey jeans yet.

Your Mum is 67? She is so lovely!! How lucky you are to inherit her genes. Please tell her that she dresses beautifully and looks much younger than her age. I am 43 and hope to look as happy & trendy as her when I am 67. Go Grandma! From Louise.
p.s. Your part of the fashion post was great too 🙂

I love those scarves you posted. I was looking for something for my kids' grandmother ( my ex m-i-l) for Christmas and I think that scarf will be perfect for her.
Thanks for another great post, and I'm glad to hear things so far are going well for Manda. One step at a time. One day at a time.

Your mom is gorgeous!

I bought my first pair of NYDJ at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in August. Love them! Honestly, I had a little trouble convincing myself I was old enough to wear them (48) but after 3 kids I have a pooch and these fit great! They are very high (up to my bellybutton) which I don't love, but with an untucked top, they are great. My butt looks high and tight and they are slim through the legs. Fit like a skinny jean but I can breathe! My super-chic friend complemented me the other day asking the brand. I have the Super Skinny jean in dark wash. Awesome!
Carper says
Hey Sheaffer – the NYDJ blouse looks more red than orange in your pictures – but it looks pretty orange on Nordstrom's website. Is it closer to red, or closer to orange? Thanks.
Sheaffer says
Hi there! I believe the colors is "paprika", so it's really an orange-y red. So sorry I'm not more help!

Sheaffer 🙂

I seriously want to marry you! Although my husband might not appreciate that!
Would you ever be able to do a post on outfits for work? I work full time but want to be cute. I don't have to wear suits or anything. Some cute work pants maybe? I'm ordering the 2014 must have shirt-I think that is so perfect for work. Can wear with necklaces, scarves and blazers!
Sheaffer says
Hi Jessica! I have done a couple of "WORK IT" posts in the past, and I have another one tentatively scheduled for November 12th. Sorry it's so far away, but my blog calendar is jam packed this month! I will try to squeeze it in sooner!!

I am intrigued by these jeans! I'll be near a Nordstrom the beginning December and will have to try these on! No Nordstrom near me (boo!), so I'm keeping a list of things I want to check out in the store when I'm there!
Thanks for the info! And your mom…oh my! She looks wonderful! Good genes for you girl!!

Oh thank heavens you have a splurge vs steal on the Kimberly necklace coming up! I have been lusting over that necklace for a while but at $90 I just can't bring myself to do it! I knew eventually there would be a similar, cheaper version. I can't WAIT!
Laura Fuller says
I will be trying these on with my fashionista mother-in-love for my birthday shopping trip! I haven't had a pair of jeans I love in years…

Your mom is gorgeous!! I have been hearing about those jeans for several years and haven't ever tried them. Maybe one of these days. I'm 51…something about them being called NYDJ makes me feel old so I've been avoiding them.

So looking forward to the necklace splurge vs steal. I want that necklace. Yeah!

Thanks for sharing this on the NYDJ – I had heard of them, but never thought about trying them on until now. I am 43 and love stylish clothes, however I am really long waisted. I have a horrible time with the low cut jeans – always tugging at them. And most shirts are never quite long enough to suit me. I wish some department store out there would cater to the long waisted gal and keep their price point in check. Thank goodness for the few stores out there that carry talls – even if you can only get them on-line.
kristinwithani says
Your NYDJ thoughts? It's 100% because you are young. There comes a point when, as a woman, the jeans need to go back to a smidge higher. It's just appropriate. I'm not talking high-waisted mom jeans! Just a bit more age-appropriate. I'm 43 and picked my first pair of NYDJ at the Salvation Army in Dallas a few years ago. I LOVE THEM! They are crazy comfy and so well made. I've since gotten a few pair of cords from Nordstrom Rack. Again, love them so much. They have a crazy amount of stretch in a good way and the whole pockets-sewn-to-zipper thing is genius. Why aren't all jeans that way?
Lana says
Your mom is so beautiful – and you definitely look like her – so the genes thing is covered :)! Thanks for reviewing these jeans – I'll try some on next time I'm at Nordy's. Like someone else said above, the name has totally thrown me off in the past. Have a super week!

Your mom is the cutest!!!! She looks great in those jeans…she looks great in all of it!! And the entire Sugarplum family will be sporting Manda tees in a few weeks!! xo

Yep, that scarf/scarves are a must have for the fall and winter….now if it would just feel like the season! UGH!
cgordon says
Great article! However, I noticed that you have Band-Aids on the backs of your heels in the last set of pictures. Please tell me it's not from wearing your Vince Camuto ballet flats because I just ordered 2 pairs of them! 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi there! I'm laughing so hard! No worries…definitely NOT from the Vince Camuto flats. They were from a pair of flats that I wore once and promptly returned because OH MY OUCH!!!!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
Ashley says
I just got my Vince Camuto flats and they gave me horrible heal blisters the first time I wore them. BUT they are really cute and have tons of cushioning for a flat, so I will endure the painful process of breaking them in. :-). And also LOVE the red scarf!! Thanks for giving us facebook fans a heads up last night. I ordered mine right away!
Sheaffer says
I'm so sorry Ashley! I didn't have to break them in, they were comfy right off the bat for me! Do you think you might be in the wrong size?
And yes…that red scarf is amazing. Can't wait to get it (although I won't be able to wear it yet since it is going to be in the 90s today!) Ugh!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
cgordon says
Oh thank goodness! 🙂 Ha ha!!! Thank you for replying.
cgordon says
Oh my goodness, 90's?! Where do you live? It's in the upper 50's here today in Indiana, but very rainy, so a scarf will be great. 🙂
cgordon says
I received my Vince Camuto 'Ellen' flats today and mine are also bothering me Ashley, but not on the heels …. on the top corner by my big toe. I originally purchased size 8 1/2 and they were slipping off of my heel, so I went for the 8's and they are TIGHT. I do have wider feet. I am hopeful they will stretch and this will work its way out, but I'm not sure? In the mean time, ouch!
Sheaffer says
I'm so sad that you girls are having trouble with these flats! I just love mine so much! Mine are a couple of years old now. I wonder if they've slightly modified the design or something?!?
cgordon says
Sheaffer, do you feel like yours have stretched at all? I am wondering if I should attempt to see if they will stretch while wearing around the house or if I need to return them. Thanks! 🙂
Tiffany {A Touch of Grace} says
