Happy Monday, everybody! I’m in Boston with my girlfriends right now, but there’s still lots that y’all need to know about today.
And if you LOVE the BEST BLACK PANTS EVER as much as I do, you need to listen up.
HECK…
Even if you don’t love the BEST BLACK PANTS EVER, you need to listen up.
Why, you ask?
Well.
Because the best black pants ever have a brand new cousin.
The cousin is made out of the exact same glorious stretchy fabric….but she is a teeny tiny bit higher waisted and doesn’t have a belt. And although I happen to love and adore the belt on the best black pants ever (I think it defines the waist nicely!), I know that some of you didn’t like the belt.
So here’s the deal…
I love the best black pants ever (obviously), and I love these new pants too.
But even if you don’t love the best black pants ever, I think it might be possible for you to still love these new pants.
I know the pattern is hard to see (they are not solid black like they appear in this picture), so there’s a flat lay in a minute to give you a better idea of the pattern and color
Here’s what they look like on…
Still incredibly stretchy and incredibly flattering, but a bit higher-waisted and without the attached belt. I’m wearing the regular 2, just like I do in the black pair, so definitely size down. They are perfect for the office and church.

Here’s a different view. (Pay special attention to the bracelet. It’s gorgeous and 40% OFF right now!)
black sweater / favorite earrings / bracelet (40% OFF right now!) / plaid pants / tweed bag / black pumps
I had several people ask if you could wear booties with the black pants, so I thought I would try them with this pair. It’s a much more casual look, but I like it!
black sweater / favorite earrings / plaid pants / black wedge booties
You’ll see in a minute that although this plaid doesn’t actually have any camel in it, camel still works fine with it. Although I’m going to be honest…I think black, grey, and red work better.
camel cashmere sweater / favorite earrings /bracelet (40% OFF right now!) / plaid pants / tweed bag / black pumps
If you look at the pants close up on the right, you can kind of see the subtle pattern.
camel cashmere sweater / favorite earrings / plaid pants / tweed bag / black pumps
And here you can see them paired with red!
red sweater / favorite earrings / plaid pants / black pumps
Please ignore the dog hair that I didn’t notice when taking the picture. #welcometomylife
Here’s a close up that gives you a better look at the plaid. See how it has the muted red running through it? You can see how grey would look great with them too…better than camel actually.
I happen to love the pattern…but if you don’t like the plaid, the pants also come in a really small tone on tone check.
And just as a reminder….here’s the pant that started the whole frenzy.
They truly are THE PERFECT WORK PANT. And even though I don’t work in an office, I’m so happy to have a pair of pants like this in my closet. EVERYBODY NEEDS A PAIR OF CLASSIC BLACK PANTS. And if they look amazing but feel like pajamas, EVEN BETTER! The fabric has a nice weight to it, they don’t show wrinkles, and I love the built in belt. AND LADIES. THEY ARE SOOOOOOO INCREDIBLY FLATTERING. I feel like a million bucks in these pants. Oh, and they also have the Ab-solution power mesh panels! The belt is made out of the same stretchy fabric that the pants are, and I love how its presence helps to define my waist.
SIZING TIP: This is important. I would definitely suggest sizing DOWN. I’m wearing the regular 2s (not petites). I’m almost 5’4″, and I’m always a solid 4, but I definitely needed the 2 in these. Really, size down. I know sometimes people are hesitant to do this, but if you don’t size down, you won’t like these pants. So please, give them a fair shot and size down.

CAMO LEGGING OUTFITS
These are the camo leggings I showed y’all last week, but I’ve paired them here with both a black turtleneck and a hot pink turtleneck sweater. These are my Walmart sweaters, y’all! They are the ones I showed you back on this Snakeskin on a Budget post. I’m sooooo sad that they are just about sold out, but I still wanted to give you outfit ideas for those of you that have already purchased either the leggings or the sweater.
And use can still use the code FALLFUN to get 55% OFF the bracelets!
black turtleneck sweater / deep grey camo leggings / bracelets / black sneakers with gold accents ON SALE
SO. CUTE.
I said last week that the leggings aren’t necessarily great for working out because I didn’t think they would stay put during high impact work outs, but they are perfect for lounging around the house and running around town. (UPDATE: A reader left a comment on the last post that she actually does wear them during high impact work outs and loves them!) They are high waisted AND THEY HAVE A SIDE POCKET. And they’re just dang cute. Lots of readers have expressed a desire for leggings with pockets, so here you go! I’m wearing a small.

The camo leggings are cute with the pink too!

And just as a reminder, here’s how you saw them last week: super casually with a sweatshirt.
The sweatshirt might be my favorite of all the Amazon sweatshirts I’ve featured thus far. It’s the perfect length for leggings, I love the split hem, I love the weight (not too thick, not too thin), and it’s just wonderfully cozy! I’m definitely ordering it in a 2nd color because all I want to do is wear the one I have.

I had a Tuesday post last week that I’m afraid some of you might have missed since it wasn’t on a regular post day. Click HERE for the post. These black wedge booties went with me to Boston, so you’ll be seeing a lot of them very soon. TONS of readers that already had them assured me that they were great for a trip where there would be a lot of walking.

Timehop continued to tug at my heartstrings this last week.
Check out precious 3 week old baby Carter and a super young baby me. Haha! And look how short my hair was!
1 year old Carter
I MEAN! LOOK AT THOSE EYES!
I think he was 4 here.
Or maybe he was 3 above and 4 here.
**********************************************
More Timehops pictures. This is Carter with Buddy just last year. Sweet boys.
And this is Carter with both of them this past weekend. Carter and Chris went out of town, and he sure was glad to see his pups when he returned.
********************************************************
Halloween night was a lot of fun, and inflatables were EVERYWHERE!
And how funny is this. Carter isn’t actually big on candy, but he does like Hershey’s, Twix, and KitKat. After some classic candy trading, he was happy with his KitKat haul. Haha!

Okay, ladies. This next story is going to warm your heart.
Chris’s grandmother (his dad’s mom) has been in a nursing home since last year. SHE LOVES IT. Like she realllllllllllllllllllly loves it. She lives in a small town, knows everybody in the town, and everybody knows and loves her. Last Christmas Eve, our little family picked her up and took her to the Christmas Eve service at her church, and it was like we were there with a celebrity. I kid you not. People lost their sweet little minds when they saw her. She has touched many lives over the years, and her love of people shines through. And because of that, people love her BIG.
Well, her nursing home had a pageant. And no surprise to us, SHE WON.
And y’all. As the winner, she advanced to the pageant in Waco.
The nursing home paid for her to get her hair and her nails done, and then she traveled to the big city of Waco to represent Mexia.
And she of course won that too.
Again, we weren’t surprised. But we sure are proud!
So, here she is, SENIOR QUEEN!!!!
She reads the blog every day, so this is her official shout out. WE LOVE YOU, G’MOMMY!!!

SOMETHING SPECIAL
And these original acrylic 8×10 paintings on canvas aren’t just darling, they have special meaning! The artist is Bridget Mottl, who blogs at Windgate Lane (and happens to be my friend!).
B paints these beautiful ribbons with her whole heart, and each ribbon serves a reminder. The ribbon signifies how once upon a time, people tied ribbons around their fingers to remember something. B’s beautifully painted ribbons serve as a reminder to pray. And what makes them extra special is that while painting, she prays for the person that is receiving the ribbon. So not only does the ribbon serve as a reminder to pray, but they also serve as a reminder that somebody is praying for you. And not just B, if given as a gift, the ribbon should remind you that the person that gifted it to you is praying for you as well. Which is so sweet and wonderful. When going through something difficult, there’s nothing better than knowing you are being covered in prayer.
For a limited time she is doing semi-custom colors, but also has a certain amount pre-made. They would make such sweet gifts for the holidays or for someone that’s been going through a tough time like the loss of a loved one, a hard diagnosis, etc. And for $25, they are an incredible deal for original art!
You can contact Bridget at [email protected] or through her website.
B’s precious family has been going through their own difficult times lately, so in addition to blessing your friend (or yourself) with one of these precious paintings….you would also be blessing B and her sweet family.
Blessings all around!

WHAT I WORE
I’m going to share a handful of outfits that I’ve worn recently. This outfit is a favorite.
I was at first hesitant to pay almost $100 for this cashmere sweater, but I’m constantly reaching for it. It’s actually the same one I have in camel as well. See the camel one styled 3 ways in this post.
And remember, you can still use the code FALLFUN to get 55% off the bracelets.
black cashmere sweater /must have earrings / sunglasses / raw hem cropped girlfriend jeans / camo strap/ black faux croc bucket bag / Amazon mules with gold buckle / bracelets
This distressed sweatshirt is a lot of fun, and the inside is so so soft. It looks designer, and you’ll never guess where it’s from. I’m wearing a medium. If you want it slouchy, definitely size up. I’m wearing a 4 Petite in the jeans and the camo wedge sneakers are true to size.
distressed sweatshirt / favorite earrings/ bag strap / girlfriend jeans / camo wedge sneakers
This sweater is from last year, but it’s BACK IN STOCK! It’s one of my favorites, so I’m so happy to see it back. It’s actually the same sweater you saw in Friday’s post in the coral red color. It’s just a great sweater. Not clingy at all, can be worn with a 1/2 tuck or out, and just a really good relaxed fit.
striped sweater / similar AG jeans / hoop earrings / black wedge booties

OUTFIT PLANNING
I found this flat lay on my phone, and I don’t think I’ve ever shared it. It’s just a great black on black look, accessorized with leopard and cognac. It’s classic and sassy.

A COUPLE OF BEAUTY FAVORITES
I’ve done several beauty posts in the last several months (with Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Sephora) and I’ve really enjoyed trying new products and finding new favorites. My Macy’s beauty post went live last month on a Sunday (because of a sale), so I’m afraid many of you missed it.
I highlighted several products in the post, but now that we’re over a month out, favorites have emerged. They are two new products that I’ve become pretty passionate about, so I want to talk about them again in case you missed that first post.
The NYX Pore Filler IS MAGICAL. It’s truly a game-changer. One reviewer who struggles with large pores said it was like “grout for your face“, and I was SOLD. I now use it every single day I put on makeup. I absolutely love it and am SO IMPRESSED with the results this product gives, and I truly feel like it smooths/minimizes the large pores on my nose. It IS grout for my face. And I’m here for it.
I’ve started using this primer as more of a spot treatment (all over my nose), and I continue to use the Smashbox Primer on the rest of my face.
And get this. It’s just $14. I would pay three times as much for this product and feel like it was worth every penny.
My other favorite from Macy’s is the NYX Butter Gloss and it’s almost too good to believe. First of all, IT’S $5. FIVE DOLLARS. It goes on soooo smoothly, it’s not sticky at all, and it just feels really good on. It’s got a silky feel, and it’s very moisturizing. I wear this over lipstick to add shine, but I also wear it on its own for just a sheer and shiny lip. Over the last month I’ve found it’s the gloss I reach for the most, especially when I’m not wearing lipstick and just want a little color and shine. I have “deep nude” and have considered ordering other colors to try, but instead I just ordered 2 more tubes of the deep nude.
I also like the Tarte Glossy Lip Paint, which is almost like a lipstick and lip gloss in one. It’s super pigmented, it stays on, and it’s shiny too! It’s thicker than a normal gloss, but it’s still more the texture of a gloss than a lipstick.

YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS POST
I’ll be recapping my girl’s trip on Friday, but if you missed last week’s post where I planned outfits, click HERE. I got so much great feedback on it, and I’m so lucky to have readers that take the time to leave encouraging comments. THANK YOU!
Lots of great leggings outfits, jean outfits, and even some fancy outfits too. I also shared my suitcase, my travel bags, and my travel skincare.

OH! One more thing for you today!
Gingerbread cookies, snowflakes, Christmas trees, and polar bears all come together for a DARLING pair of thermal pj pants. And I love the hot pink band around the waist and the ankles.
For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in the top and a small in the leggings.
cozy top / thermal leggings / memory foam slippers
Whew. That’s it for today. Happy Monday, y’all! Make it a great week!

Oh goodness your G’mommy is precious!!! Thanks for finding this adorable pair of plaid pants! I have been looking for a pair this season. Enjoy your trip!!
Diane says
What a great post. So many good outfits and the pictures of Carter then and now (love his love for his good dogs) and Chris’ grandmother!!! She is beautiful enough to win a pageant in New York City and it sounds as if her heart is equally so. Thank you for sharing her story!!
Enjoy the rest of your trip and safe travels.
Rikki says
Chris’ Grandmother is sooooo precious! Seriously, what a little cutie pie! Congratulations to her!
CHRIS says
I ordered the rainbow bracelets: two big and two small. I love the way they look. But, they are SO distractingly heavy if I try to wear all four together. Kind of disappointing. I’ll wear the bigger ones by themselves. Or the two smaller together. But more than that and it is like carrying around a kettlebell, Just want to mention in case anyone was wondering…
Sheaffer says
So sorry they are too heavy for you, Chris! I wear all 5 together, and although heavy, I’m not bothered by them. xoxo
Jenny says
Sheaffer, I got the black pants and love them but they are pulling apart at the seam on the bottom. I didn’t size down but definitely could have. I have also purchased the Wit and Wisdom skinny jeans and the thighs were so thin and rubbed through! I looked on Nordstrom website and there were a ton of people with the same problem. Have you noticed any issues with them or heard that from readers? I love the fit and the pants but I haven’t had the best quality. I promise my sizes are right and I am not just crazy!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jenny! I haven’t had any issues with quality with either the pants or the jeans! The pants are obviously new to me, but I’ve washed all of my jeans a ton and they still look and feel great! Xoxo
Laurie S says
Love the story of G‘Mommy winning the Senior Queen title!
And, about the dog hair, don’t you know that golden retriever dog hair makes the best accessory to any outfit? The darker the outfit the better… lol. I used to keep a tape roller in my car, in my work bag, at my desk…
Sheaffer says
They’re worth it! ❤️
Jennifer Willoughby says
Here’s a musing for you! Carter and friends came by my house trick-or-treating. It was well after 7:00. I was letting kids pick what they wanted. I had full size giant Pixi Sticks, full size Air Heads, Ring Pops and M&Ms. He was the FIRST ONE after well over an hour to pick the M&Ms. I was losing all faith in the kids and them not picking chocolate. I was so excited he picked them! Why? I don’t know! He probably thought I was some super crazy old lady!
Sheaffer says
That’s so funny, Jennifer! Hershey’s is his candy of choice. He doesn’t eat many sweets, but he does love chocolate! Xoxo
Kim says
Wow! So much inspiration and ideas! Was still recovering from your girl’s trip post because I loved all the outfits and now there’s this!! So many exclamation points, but well deserved 🙂
Gail Elizabeth Wilson says
i have the two belted plaid Wit n Wisdom pants from the Anniversary Sale and have worn both to work the past few weeks. They are comfy, cute and above all, SO different from my dark skinnies that I live in. I can’t wait to try the non-belted style!
FYI, I got my camo leggings in the mail Saturday. I opened them yesterday, took them out and said to my husband, this must be a toddler’s size Small because the legs were soooo tiny. He said to just try them…and I did…and WOW! I want to quit my job so I can wear them every day!. The pockets are life changing – no more putting my phone in my waistband during dog walks and have it slip down my pant leg (awkward!!) 🙂
Sheaffer says
So happy you love them!!!!
Gail Elizabeth Wilson says
I forgot to ask, is there still a discount code available for the camo purse strap? Thank you!! 🙂
Sheaffer says
Not at this time. Sorry, Gail! Xoxo

How did I not put it together that you are related to Sara Sims! I grew up in Mexia and Mr. Sims was my elementary school principal. He would let the little boys that were getting in trouble put on his boxing gloves and box it out at recess. He died when I was a junior in high school and it was like we all lost a dad. My high school boyfriend was the first recipient of the R.Q. Sims Scholarship and we were so proud for him to receive such a worthy accolade for graduation.
Mrs. Sims was our librarian at Forest Glade School when we were in 4th grade. Ross Elementary in Mexia was overflowing, so they moved our 4th grade class out to Forest Glade and we were bussed back and forth every day. Mrs. Sims would read to us each week and there was something just magical that happened when she entered the room. Everyone was so excited, but we knew to be quiet and respectful so that she would read to us. Her famous poem was Pippa’s Song. To this day, I hear her voice saying, “God’s in His heaven, all’s right with the world.” That little verse will stay with me and encourage me until I die. I don’t know if librarians still read to kids at school, but it was my favorite part of fourth grade. Sara Sims is MOST CERTAINLY the QUEEN of whatever she is a part of!!!
I still remember thinking how much they loved each other. For kids that did not have ideal homes, they were such a beautiful example and ALWAYS so positive.
Gosh, I am just in a puddle of tears this morning thinking about how wonderful the Sims family is. I loved worshiping with them at First Baptist Church, Mexia. I can still remember that they sat very near the front on the left side and Mr. Sims had a gentle smile to his serious face, but Mrs. Sims was always cheerful and smiling.
Thanks for sharing the update on Mrs. Sims. Please tell her that Tamra Nelson Walker loves her dearly and I still visit with Anna Schuster Kantor, Mitzi Fountain Eves and Joanna Hill Willard and we remember the Sims family every time we are together.
I suppose that your husband is the son of one of the boys since the family name. I always thought the Sims children were movie stars!!! I graduated from MHS in 1985, so they were all ahead of me in school, but you know how you always look up to older, popular kids!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I love your blog even more now!!!
My daughter is getting married in McKinney next year. I have been meaning to reach out for recommendations for things to see/eat/do in McKinney for our out of town family. And yes, we will have guests from Mexia at the wedding!!!
Have a great trip with your girlfriends! I am old for your group, but I think of you all as my friends and you all make me smile. I love how close you all are. That is a treasure, so keep it up. Your kids leave home and start their own lives, so maintaining close friendships is really the key to a long, happy life!!!
Hugs to YOU, Sheaffer SIMS!!!
Sheaffer says
Tamra!!!!!! Oh my word!!!!!!! I am also in a puddle of tears over here. I love her dearly and have always known she’s an incredibly special person, but I loved hearing your words and your memories. And my goodness, I wish I would have known RQ. I will definitely be sharing this with her and cannot wait to see her reaction! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I sent your comment to my husband and I’m sure he will call her today to tell her! Xoxo

‘Good people’ does not begin to express this family! Love y’all!!!

Sheaffer, can you help a California girl out? I love your looks with a black or camel sweater and dressy pants or jeans, but those sweaters are just too warm out here. I like the polished look of a sweater, and after kids, they’re more flattering on me than a tuck or half tuck.. Can you help with some similar looks that are appropriate for what we call “Fall” out here?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Monica! I will definitely keep my eyes peeled! xoxo
Eileen Bradshaw says
Congratulations to your GMommy—- senior Queen.
Monica Seeley says
Sheaffer, Chris’s grandmother is adorable! Thank you for sharing!
Can you help a California girl? I like the black or camel sweaters you’ve been featuring— especially the ones featured with the dressy pants in this post. But they’re a little too warm for what we call “Fall” here. I would be so grateful if you could find some lighter sweaters that work out here but keep that look. Thank you!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Monica! I definitely will! But even though they are cashmere, they are actually pretty light and not crazy warm. I will keep looking for some more affordable options, so I’ll keep you posted on those! xoxo
Monica Seeley says
Thank Sheaffer! I wanted to share this cute sweater from Loft that gives me the look you were showing, but also keeps me cool. Despite some so so reviews, I thought I’d try it, and I’m so happy I did! The main complaint in the reviews was that it was flimsy or see-through, but the black certainly does not have that problem.

if you haven’t tried Issac Mizzrahi 24/7 pants, they are amazing. It fits much better with my price point. I bought one pair and went back for 4 more. They sell them on QVC and they are the best pants I have ever worn. I love your blog! 🙂
