May Top 12 and Charlie Update

Today’s post is one of my favorite posts each and every month. Today I’m going to share your Top 12 picks from May (with a BONUS #13)!

But before we get started on today’s post, I need to give y’all a Charlie update. Y’all. We cannot believe how well he is doing. He is an absolute angel. First of all, I want to thank all of you for the sweet and encouraging messages, and most of all for the prayers. They mean so much.

He’s not messing with his incision at all (if we are in the same room with him, he’s not even having to wear his cone), he’s eating great (we think he was STARVING before the surgery because there just wasn’t any room in his stomach for food), and he’s getting around very well. We’re even taking 3 short walks a day because he really wants to get out.

We still need prayers that the pathology report come back with good news, but we are incredibly hopeful that it’s going to be clear!

Not surprisingly, many of y’alls top picks are in my top picks for the month as well. All of the items I’m featuring today are items that I added to my own closet, and because of that, they are items that you will continue to see on the blog (as long as they are in stock). And what’s extra great about this favorites list is that all of the items are under $100, the majority are under $80, several are under $60, and a couple are under $30! The picks that made this month’s top list are from mainly from Nordstrom with only 1 item from Amazon.

And I think this is the first time that this has ever happened, but 4 of the items on May’s TOP list were also on April’s TOP list. 1) ruffle sleeve tee / I’ve shown this ruffle sleeve tee this month in both white and orange, so it’s no surprise it made the Top 12 list. And when the orange one went on sale last week, y’all started grabbing it like crazy.

And I showed it in this vibrant orange as well. The tee is so soft, and these ruffles! This is the only color on sale, but it also comes in black, white, turquoise, and light pink. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

And these shorts! They are a lightweight linen with pull-on styling, so they are super comfortable. The perfect rise, the perfect elastic waist with a functional drawstring, and the perfect length. The link says they are a 4″ inseam, but they definitely seem longer on. They’re classy and casual, but they can easily be dressed up or down. I have super similar ones that are neutral that I love, so the navy seemed like a no brainer. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium for a relaxed fit.

2) longer denim shorts / These denim shorts have a 7″ inseam, and I love them. They’re from Wit and Wisdom, so they have the AbSolution power mesh that we’ve all grown to love, and they’ve got some stretch like we’ve become accustomed to as well. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4.

I’m completely smitten with this pointelle sweater. The site calls this color “green finch”, but I would definitely describe this sweater as a yellow and not a green. It’s 100% cotton, lightweight, breathable, and a fun look for summer! The pointelle pattern is sweet. It also comes in pink and white. For size reference, I wear a medium.

3) eyelet peasant top / This eyelet peasant blouse is really sweet and a perfect summer blouse to style in lots of different outfits. It’s 100% cotton and lined, with the cutest little eyelet pattern. The neck is a flattering scoop neck, and I really like the little flutter sleeves. This top is airy, roomy, and kind of romantic. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

These patch pocket denim shorts are from Wit and Wisdom, our favorite denim brand (#9 on the list), and they have the signature fit and stretch that we’ve all fallen in love with. And although you can’t see them with the shirt worn out like this, they’ve got really cute oversized patch pockets on the front that do show when you do a half tuck. For size reference, I’m wearing a 4.

4) turquoise earrings / If you’re looking for the perfect summer earrings, I found them last month, and I’m still wearing them allll the time. They are super lightweight, and I love that they combine the textured raffia with beautiful turquoise beads. I’M SERIOUSLY IN LOVE and will be wearing these all summer long. The blouse is fabulous too.

As you can see, I wore these earrings in tons of outfits this month…

I’ve been loving all of the tie-front tops that I’ve been seeing all over social media, but most of them show a lot more skin than this, and that’s not my vibe. This linen blend tie front top is more modest because only the top tie shows skin. It is a boxy fit, but y’all know I happen to like a boxy fit. And the fluttery peplum hem is just my style. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

I think this is the 3rd year for me to be wearing and loving these distressed denim cut-offs. However, since they are both short and distressed, there are lots of places I wouldn’t wear them. They are what I affectionately refer to as toddler shorts because of the elastic across the back. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

Everything about this dress is special, but I love the color combo, the square neckline, and the rickrack trim the most. It’s pull-on styling, which is pretty much a requirement for me in a dress. I find if a dress zips up, it almost always doesn’t on me. Haha! The back on this one is elastic, so the sizing is forgiving and the dress is comfy. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

This embroidered top is absolutely a favorite new find! I think this black is festive, but I also really love the pale powder blue option. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, and the embroidery and rick rack is just so much fun. The deep v and the longer sleeves are very flattering. I love this top. This eyelet top has near perfect reviews, and I totally understand why. It’s darling. The fabric has some weight to it, it’s fully lined, and it’s not stiff or itchy at all. The eyelet is pretty and feminine, and the flutter sleeves are just lovely. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

This flutter sleeve top also has a pretty eyelet pattern and a split neck, but it has a swingy fit. The green is also gorgeous. It’s a beautiful Kelly green and would look amazing with white jeans. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

This fabulous dress that is beautifully made and UNDER $40. It’s 100% cotton WITH POCKETS, has a great little split neck, subtle puff sleeves, a drawstring waist, an eyelet pattern, and a ruffled skirt. Oh, and it’s fully lined! It’s DARLING. I fell in love with this vibrant “bright red tomato” (a red/orange combo), but it also comes in classic black and white. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I needed a medium for the chest, but a small would have been fine otherwise.

This floral flutter sleeve blouse is one of my new favorite finds. I think it’s absolutely darling. The little posies that are scattered all over the top are precious, and I’m in love with the pleating and swingy fit. The banded collar, the button up-styling, and the little flutter sleeves all come together to make this great top. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

These twill patch pocket shorts are a little bit unexpected with the color and a lot cute! 😉 They have the same fit and stretch as the denim patch pocket shorts you are going to see in a minute, but these are twill. The olive color still functions as a neutral, so you can style them with lots of different colors. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4. I would suggest sizing up for a more relaxed fit.

If you’re packing for a beach vacation, I love how this straw tote looks with this sundress. This is a really great bag for a trip, but it’s also great for everyday use.

It’s an empire waist with smocking across the back and sides. The pleated bodice is unique, and the tiny little pleats fall so pretty. It’s a gorgeous dress.

The bodice of this gorgeous dress is smocked, it has little flutter sleeves with scallop detailing and eyelet cut-outs, there’s a little pleated ruffle at the waist, and the eyelet detail is carried throughout the skirt. It is 100% cotton and lined. I’m in love with this vibrant hot orange color, but it also comes in plain white and it’s beautiful. The white one screams summer, and it could also be a great choice for a bride for a shower or luncheon. The top is very forgiving because of the smocking, so I was able to size down. I’m wearing a small.

I’ve got another shirt dress that works on me! The reviews are excellent (almost 250 reviews with the majority being 5 stars), and while it comes in 3 solid colors, I absolutely could not resist these pinstripes. The fabric is lightweight, but it’s not too thin. It’s substantial enough that it doesn’t require a slip. I feel like this is a dress that lots of y’all would love to have in your closets, and right now it’s on sale for right at $20. For size reference, I’m wearing a petite medium.

Click HERE for the self-tanner that I swear by. I love that it’s a mousse that goes on with a color, so you can see the application which is key! It applies very evenly, but if you miss a spot, you can immediately see that and correct it. And you can see that the color is a golden brown and not too orange at all.

I love a crisp cotton poplin dress. Always have, always will.

This mini swing dress is DARLING. It’s a navy background with a lilac flower pattern that is both playful and pretty. The dress is actually made to be off the shoulder, but I don’t love wearing dresses off the shoulder because I think that highlights my already broad shoulders. As you can see, you can definitely wear it on the shoulders as well, which is how I will be wearing it. However, when worn on the shoulder, it does make the dress shorter for sure so you will want to keep that in mind.

For size reference, I’m wearing a petite medium. The medium is pretty short on my 5’4″ frame (especially when worn ON the shoulder), and it definitely couldn’t be any shorter. If taller than 5’4″, you should probably get the regular instead of the medium.

This dress is adorable and looks much more expensive than it is. It is very well made, 100% cotton, and fully lined. It has a pretty square neckline, sleeves that have a tiny bit of flare and length, and a nice relaxed fit. At 5’4″, it’s a bit longer than I typically like a dress, but that’s great news for you taller ladies. I would definitely suggest sizing down in this one. I’m wearing a small, and it’s still plenty roomy through the thighs and hips. If I didn’t need the room in the chest, I might even be able to size down to the xs. I thought this Kelly green was so fresh and fun, but it also comes in white, black, and a red/orange.

Gosh I love a shirtdress. Sadly, they don’t usually work for me because they often pull across the chest, but not this one! In fact, I would say this one is oversized and you should consider sizing down. I’m wearing a medium here, but I will be exchanging it for a small.

It is quite short, so if you’re over 5’6″, you are probably going to need to pass on this dress.

Wear it with sandals doing errands all over town, but you can also dress it up with wedges!

9) patch pocket denim shorts / Y’all know I wear these other denim shorts from Aerie allllllllllllll the time, but this patch pocket pair below is a great option for denim shorts with a bit of a longer length and no distressing. I’m wearing my regular size 4.

This babydoll top is DARLING and UNDER $30, y’all. This is the navy blue, but there are so many colors that I love. In fact, this is one of those pieces that I can see lots of people buying in 2 colors. It’s 100% cotton and the contrasting piping really makes the top. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

This striped v-neck sweater is from Boden, one of my very favorite brands because all of the clothes are vibrant and adorable. Now Boden’s price point is often a bit high, but I often find that the clothes are worth it. Several of my favorite pieces over the last several years are actually Boden pieces because they always feel special. This sweater is 100% linen and very lightweight. It’s basic t-shirt styling, but super elevated.

10) linen drawstring shorts / Let’s talk about the shorts! I mean, I’m not getting any younger, and I knew I wanted to add some shorts to my closet this summer that weren’t denim cut-offs. These are just what I was looking for!

They are a lightweight linen with pull on styling, so they are super comfortable. The perfect rise, the perfect elastic waist with a functional drawstring, and the perfect length. The link says they are a 4″ inseam, but they definitely seem longer on. They’re classy and casual, but they can easily be dressed up or down. These are the “flax”, but they also come in white, a blue stripe, and a pink stripe. I think the flax is perfection. I’m afraid that the white might be too sheer, but they are worth a try if you’re specifically looking for a pair of white shorts. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium for a relaxed fit.

I’m wearing them here with a classic button-up for a totally chic look. And great news! The button-up is ON SALE! This is a great closet staple that will look fabulous styled in lots of different outfits. I’m wearing a small in the top, so I would suggest sizing down for sure. This cap sleeve sweater is a perfect transition piece for spring temps. It’s a medium weight and truly perfect for warm spring days and cooler nights. It is soft, well made, and runs true to size. I’m wearing a medium for this slouchy look, but you can size down if you would prefer it to be more fitted. This is the brown, but it comes in 8 color options.

I think this top looks like a $130 pick from Anthro, but it’s $29.99 from Amazon. The quality is top notch, it has excellent reviews, and it comes in 6 color options. The body is a great ribbed knit, and the sleeves are gauzy perfection. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

11) ecru jeans / Y’all know that these ecru jeans are in my Top 3 finds for the year, and they’ve been on y’alls Top 12 list several times as well. Fingers crossed they are still on sale! They are actually a great year-round jean because they look awesome with booties in the fall and winter, but they look just as great with wedges and sandals in the summer! I love the fit and the frayed hem. I’m wearing my regular size 4.

This floral flutter sleeve blouse is one of my new favorite finds. I think it’s absolutely darling. The little posies that are scattered all over the top are precious, and I’m in love with the pleating and swingy fit. The banded collar, the button up-styling, and the little flutter sleeves all come together to make this great top. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

I’ve been loving all of the tie-front tops that I’ve been seeing all over social media, but most of them show a lot more skin than this, and that’s not my vibe. This linen blend tie front top is more modest because only the top tie shows skin. It is a boxy fit, but y’all know I happen to like a boxy fit. And the fluttery peplum hem is just my style. 12) raffia sandals / To be honest, I’m completely smitten with these sandals. The texture! The buckle! The scalloped edge! It’s all soooo good! True to size for me. They also come in a neutral, a coastal blue, an olive green, a dark rose, a buttercup, and a coral. The names don’t do the colors justice, you need to click over to see them.

The reviews are FANTASTIC (there are 170 reviews and almost all are 5 STARS), and they are UNDER $100.

And here’s the deal… Like I said, I actually purchased these last year. However, even though I still LOVE THEM, I went to get a new pair of sandals this year because that’s how the blogging business works. I find new items and talk about them. WELL. I tried on no less than 10 pairs of new sandals, and I didn’t like any of them even half as much as I like these.

They’re fabulous. End of story.

I’ve got another cap sleeve sweater, but this one has the cutest retro floral pattern. This is the apricot version, but it also comes in black, caramel, olive, navy, and a really pretty blush. I LOVE THESE PANTS. They are a lightweight linen with a little bit of texture. They’re flowy and cropped, perfect for summer. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium, but I’m going to return them for a small. I think they will still have plenty of room in the waist, and I want them to be a bit shorter on my 5’4″ frame

I already had this eyelet top in olive, but I couldn’t resist this gorgeous red. It comes in 26 colors, so there’s something for everybody. Only the top buttons are functional, so you just slip it over your head. The open neckline, the tiny ruffle collar, the subtle puff sleeves, and the eyelet pattern are all fabulous. Okay, ladies! How do you feel about an absolutely DARLING striped dress that is ONLY $29!?! It’s not fitted, but it’s not boxy either, it’s just the kind of fit I love.
