So I got in the car at about 5:30 yesterday and headed to Dallas for Melanie’s book signing for Nobody’s Cuter Than You! When I got home last night, I didn’t have the strength or brain cells to write a recap of the event.
Why you ask?
Well, can you see what time it is?
I got home at 12:29 a.m.
There were TONS of cute ladies that wanted to meet Melanie, and after 3 hours of Melanie signing books LIKE A CHAMP, we all went to dinner at 10:00 p.m.
I’m going to let that sink in for a minute.
Dinner.
At 10:00 p.m.
I know.
It’s like I was hanging with rock stars or something.
I’ll have pictures and more to come next week, but for now, know this:
Melanie has the sweetest and most hilarious group of friends.
Nobody’s Cuter Than They Are. 😉
FAVORITE #2: These Flip Flops
Cut-offs (several years old) / a great tee (exact one HERE) – by the way, I now own 4 of THESE tees. don’t judge. / a hat / and flip flops.
By the way, I’m looking down because I hadn’t put my face on yet. 🙂
(I had Chris take this of me yesterday morning at like 7:30 before I ran the little man to school.)
FAVORITE #3: KID’S SHOES
If you don’t have a kid, just go ahead and skip to #4. You’re welcome. 😉
Several weeks ago, Nordstrom asked me to talk about kid’s Spring shoes…and when preparing for this post, I realized that Carter basically has and wears the same 4 types of shoes year round.
1) Natives for pretty much everyday (yes, he wears them with socks in the fall and winter)
2) dressy shoes for church and other dressier occasions (we typically go with Sperry’s)
3) sneakers for the days he needs to wear tennis shoes (because some days you do)
and 4) rain boots
I feel like these 4 shoes cover him for any and all types of events for the entire year.
So, let’s break down Carter’s 4 MUST HAVE shoes! 🙂
MUST HAVE KID SHOE #1: NATIVES
Y’all already know we have a deep and abiding love for Natives.
Like I said a couple of weeks ago during the kid’s spring clothes post, when I was first asked to do this post on favorite kid’s spring shoes, I kind of wanted to just throw up a picture of Natives and call it a day.
When I last posted about these, several of you commented that you throw them in the dishwasher to clean them off! Love it! And you can use a magic eraser on scuff marks and they come right off!
He’s had the red shoes now for over a year (the blue ones are new), and I haven’t used my magic eraser trick in a couple of months, but it works like a charm.
THESE. SHOES. ROCK.
outfit links:
blue hoodie HERE / striped shorts HERE / dinosaur shirt HERE /
red and navy Natives both found HERE
And good news! The Natives come in baby, toddler, little kid, and big kid sizes!
MUST HAVE KID SHOE #2: DRESS SHOES
Everybody has to have a pair of “nice enough for church” shoes.
And our GO TOs are typically Sperry’s. Here’s the little fella on 50s day at school this year. We pulled out his church shoes because we felt that they were the most 50ish. 🙂
Dress Shoe Options For Boys:
I was planning on highlighting some of my favorite girl’s shoes also….
But I got overwhelmed and I couldn’t figure out which dressy girl’s shoes were cute.
Sorry.

MUST HAVE KID SHOE #3: SNEAKERS
We know that all kids need a pair of sneakers at all times.
Because sometimes you just need a pair of sneakers.
-Confucius
Like on Fun Run day at school!
Natives wouldn’t have cut it (although the little man did his very best to convince me that they would be fine for the Fun Run).

Look at my 2 handsome boys 🙂
Our go to for sneakers is most often Stride Rite, but here are several great options for boys.
And you can click HERE for all girl’s sneakers.
MUST HAVE KID SHOE #4: RAIN BOOTS
Since Carter was 2, he has always owned a pair of rain boots
Prior to this year I always just had random rain boots for him (1 pair I picked up at Target, 1 pair I picked up at a consignment store), but this year we splurged and got him Hunters.
And I think he likes his just as much as his mama does…and that’s sayin’ somethin’.
Find all kid’s Hunter Boots HERE.
Luckily, my little guy’s foot grows very slowly, so couple that with the fact that I bought a size up…and these should work for him for an entire year (if not longer)!
And don’t worry, there are LOTS of other choices for you if you want to not spend quite as much. Click HERE to see them ALL!
Choices include Thomas the Train, different super heroes, Hello Kitty, and lots of other fun colors and patterns!
If you don’t have rain boots for your little one, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting them.
There were two times earlier this year that we didn’t have them when we needed them (he had finally outgrown his old pair and we hadn’t purchased a new pair yet, and man I was kicking myself that we didn’t have them). I’m telling you, once you have a pair for your kid, you will ALWAYS have a pair for your kid.
Here are some of my lower priced favorites:
One other fun option that we’ve talked about previously are TOMS.
Carter’s enthusiasm wasn’t really on par with mine (let’s be honest, whose is?!?), when I found these TOMS for him.
Nope, he wasn’t a fan (too much of his daddy in him I guess). 🙂
And sadly, after much discussion, we left the store without THESE.
But I still love them.
There are also plenty of choices for TOMS for your little girl, click HERE to see them all!
Here are some of my favorites:
Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring the kid’s shoe portion of this post!

FAVORITE #6: CHEAP (but DARLING!) EARRINGS
Holy cow! I just about fell out of my chair at work this morning while reading your blog. (No, I was not on a break, I’m a rebel that way). Regarding the Franco Sarto flats you OH EMMMMM GEEEEEE’d about, I have not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 freakin’ pairs of them. In every color they offered back in 2013. Black, Sand and the Dark Brown (of which I have 2 pairs of!). And to top it off, I’m wearing the Sand ones today and I keep a black pair under my desk, which I change into when I can’t take another second of my 5″ Charles David wedges.
Tell your readers these are the MOST comfy, cute sandals you will ever put on your feet. Size wise, they run a hair large. I took a 5, while in my usual 5.5, they were flopping around a bit.
Thanks for all the great tips! I’ve even taken to wearing respectfully ripped jeans to office (I’m talking to you, Loft Modern Straight Rip & Repair in Coastal Blue!!)
In Shopping We Trust,
Gail
I love it when I can feel a reader’s enthusiasm!!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Gail!
THESE are the sandals she is talking about…and they have them in gold too HERE.
They are $69.95 and have 124 5 STAR Reviews!
Y’all already know Kathryn, she’s a reader I’ve featured several times before.
Well, I saw a picture of her on ig in a DARLING top, and I had to have the details!
This was the e-mail I got:
Kathryn speaks my language.
I MEAN. THAT TOP IS DARLING.
Remember, hers is called “spring camo”, but there are 21 other options to choose from!
I’m thinking this is a perfect blouse for the working woman!

FAVORITE #9: The Great Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit from Wednesday got LOTS of love! (Click HERE to see me in it and what I had to say about it).
I think I might have converted some of you ladies to jumpsuit supporters!
Let’s form a club.
I’ll be the social chair.
Actually, no. I’ll just be a member.
Let’s nominate somebody else for Social Chair and I’ll just show up at the parties
and be a whole lot of fun.
Yes.
That sounds like a plan.

I love every single one of those studs. I think I might make it my personal goal to own all the different color studs that I can. Of course I have already bought the famous $8 teal pair! I love them and you're right, they are pratically giving them away!

Let's just talk about those flip flops for a minute…when I saw you in them, I wanted to rip them off your feet and take them for myself…and then I realized that wouldn't work for me because you have cute little petite feet…and well, I don't. Boo. Going to get them in my size!!
Heather says

It KILLS me that Natives stop at Big Kids size 3! I want some for my daughter so bad but she needs at least a 4-4.5. Makes me so sad that the size the size range isn't larger.

I literally changed my whole schedule today after reading your blog. Dropped everything and drove to Nordstrom. Even got a flat tire and was stuck there with my 2&4 year old daughters. Not a bad spot to be stuck 😉 Bought my girls the purple iridescent Natives and I sort of want a pair for myself. Have you ever tried them for yourself?? I also bought a pair of the Reefs for myself 🙂 thank you for being my personal shopper!!!
Anonymous says
The spring camo is on wait list, and so is spring confetti which is a really cute print! 🙁
lvlly says
I bought those Reef flip flops and they came yesterday – I love them and can't wait to wear them. I love your blog BTW

I always buy my Hanky Panky's from Neimans Last Call….they usually have a good selection and they're just so much cheaper! And I usually wait until they go on sale. They're on sale now!! They have a bunch for $10-$11!! I think in the past I've gotten some for as little as $7 from Last Call.
