It’s My Birthday Week! Favorite #2

It’s the 4th day of the Birthday Extravaganza…
AND I’VE ADDED A WAY TO GET 5 ADDITIONAL ENTRIES!
I’ve had many people contact me over the last year and request to FOLLOW VIA EMAIL.  I never had it as an option because I always hit a snag when trying to set it up.  Well, I had a friend help me yesterday, and we got it all set up! FAVORITE #2: My Wardrobe Staples Guest post

 WARDROBE STAPLES!
A passage in Fashion for Dummies states the following:
There are some items that you absolutely need ready and waiting in
your closet. These make up the basics of your wardrobe; they’re the must
haves, no matter what your style — the wardrobe essentials. To be considered a wardrobe essential, an article of clothing has to have several important attributes:

*It must be versatile.  
*It has to be of good, perhaps even exceptional, quality. 
Very important for a garment that you’ll rely on again and again.
*It should be a classic style. 
You don’t want your wardrobe essentials to ever really go out of fashion.  
*It must be a 10. 
These garments, like
everything in your closet, should have all the qualities of a 10, and
because they form the basis of your stylish wardrobe, it’s okay to spend
a little more for these than you would other, less essential, items.

So, I looked in my closet with the intention of picking 3 things that I thought were items that met all of the above criteria.

I wanted to choose a clothing item, a pair of shoes, and an accessory.
After looking at my closet, the choices were simple!

I went with my denim jacket (HERE in Large and X-Large… and HERE in all sizes), my nude flats (HERE), & a statement necklace (HERE).
Remember, if you order the jacket, most feel it runs small (especially in the upper arms).
All from Nordstrom.  All excellent quality.  All extremely versatile year round pieces.

After choosing my 3 WARDROBE STAPLES,
I set out to prove that they really could be worn year round in lots and lots of different looks!
So, I played dress up!
Check out the 6 different looks I created with my 3 basic WARDROBE STAPLES!
All I did in each outfit was change out my shirt and my bottoms.  Everything else was the same!

 All of the above pics contain 3 WARDROBE STAPLES:
the denim jacket (HERE in Large and X-Large… and HERE in all sizes), 
the nude flats (HERE), and my statement necklace (HERE).
Then, I simply changed 2 other pieces in and out in each outfit to create 6 VERY different looks.

 WHEW!  That’s a lot of looks created around 3 basic pieces!
The versatility of the nude flats definitely surprised me the most.
The only reason I even bought them was because of the following picture.
 

And because I knew a lot of you might question the versatility of a nude flat (just like I did!), I put together  a Pinterest collage showing us all how nude flats can be a key item in our wardrobes
spanning ALL 4 SEASONS.

The versatility and the classic style makes THESE BABIES a WARDROBE STAPLE!
I have them, and I LOVE them.
They are sooooooo comfy, and I love how they are patent.  They really class up an outfit, and they look good with everything.  I’ve worn them at least once a week since buying them late in the spring, and the collage above gets me fired up to wear them all fall and winter too.
So, THESE are mine.

    I love, love, love this post! Your 6 different outfits (to span the seasons) is an awesome way to show how a good staple spans the seasons. It's perfect for someone who constantly feels they have nothing to wear. I've got my money on the Callisto Wedges being number one. : ) Funny story about the jean jacket… I was at a restaurant and saw an old sorority sister (for maybe the third time in 9 years) and she was wearing THE jean jacket. I walked up to say hello to her and we giggled that we both follow your blog. I went home and ordered the jacket; it arrives today : )

    I wear my denim jacket a lot! I also have a pair of gold fossil flats with almost all the gold rubbed off—-that makes them an almost nude color! I need to spring for the nude ones! Love the ideas!

    There would have been a time I would have been grumpy about these unusually chilly summer mornings! Not anymore! Denim jacket the last two days!

    I love me some accessories, but I got one of those cutie jcrew statement necklaces for my birthday. Every time I put it on I feel transported back to the 80's….like I'm Jennifer Keaton on Family Ties in the episode where she and her friends start a band and all wear rhinestone jewelry with sweaters, jeans (and big hair, natch!). But this necklace is so much cuter, but I'm still struggling with it.

    I bought a pair of nude flats right after I saw your post!

    I was reading your newest post at work while wearing a god-awful pair of flats from a few years ago that were killing my feet. It got to the point where I couldn't walk in them without putting my jeans in the back of the flats in order to move from my desk to the bathroom to the water fountain eventually to my car to payless around the corner to buy a new pair of shoes. Luckily- after reading your post- they had a simple pair of nude flats. Since I bought them that day I couldnt justify buying a second pair – the Vince Camuto ones from Nordstrom. I have OFFICIALLY worn out my nude flats by wearing them so much. I can now justify spending the $80 on the Vince Camuto onces since I KNOW i wear them quite often (almost 5+ times a week).
