This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle. The product selections are my own, and I only highlight and promote pieces that I truly love. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Sheaffer Told Me To!
Great jeans, a classic black sweater, and leopard shoes are 3 pieces that I believe everybody should own. In addition to working together to create a great outfit, they also mix and match into all sorts of different outfits for all different sorts of occasions. Simply put, they are important staples that will serve you well for years and years.
And I’ve got some great news if you need to add one (or more) of these pieces to your closet. They are all still available in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, which means that they are not only available, but they are VERY WELL priced. But consider yourself warned…the sale opens to everybody on Friday, so if you are a cardholder, you need to act now.
Today I’m showing you two outfits made up of the same 3 basic elements. The first outfit is a black sweater styled with skinny jeans and leopard booties, and the 2nd outfit is a black sweater styled with cropped flares and leopard mules. Both outfits follow the same formula, but they somehow manage to give off different vibes.
And yes, the heat index was 112 degrees when we were taking these pictures.

There’s nothing very special about this sweater, but that’s what makes it timeless. It’s crew neck, soft, not too long, not too short, and not too heavy. Everybody needs a classic sweater like this. Having it in stripes and other colors would be nice, but black is a necessity. I’m wearing a medium in the sweater.

Here are some other great black sweater options, all still available:
These jeans are my #1 favorite pair from the sale. And they are still in stock!
They are from the much beloved Kut From The Kloth brand, and I was so thrilled when they asked if I wanted to extend my brand ambassadorship during the sale. They sent me many of the jeans that were going to be available, I tried them all on, and I couldn’t sign on fast enough.
And here’s the truth…Even without the brand ambassadorship, these would be my #1 jean pick from the sale. Because they are just that awesome.
They are true to size, and I’m wearing my regular 4s.

Now, I want to tell you why I think they are still available. The picture on the Nordstrom site is not a good representation of these jeans, otherwise they would have already sold out! They look very casual on the site with a slight boyfriend jean look, and the ankle openings appear quite a bit bigger than they actually are.
My advice to you is to pay no attention to how they look on the site, and just look at them on me. If you like them in this post, you will like them in real life! And now that I’ve added this disclaimer, I’m expecting popular sizes to sell out quickly!
They are a great mid-rise, have the perfect amount of stretch and give to make them comfy (but not too much that they sag or stretch out), and they are a wonderful medium wash.
Click HERE for the jeans. Right now they are just under $60!
They have a tiny bit of distressing and a tiny bit of fading, but it’s the ankle length and raw hem that makes these my favorite.
AND THE BOOTIES, Y’ALL.
This leopard boot is SASSY and still in stock, but popular sizes are starting to disappear. I love how the entire boot (including the heel) is leopard, and the slits on each ankle are deep and flattering. They will add so much flare to basic outfits. In addition to black clothing, I also love to pair leopard with oatmeal, Kelly green, mustard, and all shades of pink. They really are a sassy neutral and very versatile. They are true to size for me.

Seriously. Look how cute the ankle detail is.
And I went with gold earrings and my dainty little pave necklace as accessories. Both in the sale. Both still available.
We have to talk about this tote. Sure, a black bag would look fine with this outfit, but I really love the contrast that is provided when you mix black and brown together.
And the fringe on this bag is everything.

Don’t you love how all 3 of these basic pieces come together for a totally chic outfit?

For the 2nd outfit, I followed the exact same formula. A classic black sweater and a great pair of jeans, sassed up a bit with leopard shoes.
I’m wearing the same sweater and the same belt, but I went with cropped flare jeans and leopard mules. This look is a bit funkier, and I have to admit, I felt cool and a bit edgy in these jeans.
sweater / KUT cropped flare raw hem jeans / tortoise ring belt / leopard mules/ star earrings/ bracelets /small croc bag
So let’s talk about the jeans.
I took a bit of a risk with these. I’ve never had any thing like them in my closet, and I’m 100% loving how edgy they are! And guess what, they are from my friends at Kut From The Kloth as well. The Kut peeps know their denim. I use to only wear skinny jeans, and then a couple of years ago I added boot cut jeans in the mix, and I thought that’s all I needed. But my goodness is it fun to have this cropped flare pair now also. Click HERE to see all of the KUT styles available in the sale, including this pair of higher waist boot cut jeans that look fabulous.
The length is okay on my 5’4″ frame, but I saw them on one of my taller friends, and I actually think they’d be even better for taller girls. The crop length is more obvious and cuter on the taller ladies. Still, it’s not going to keep me from wearing them. I tell you. I’m cooler when I’m sporting these bad boys. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4.
Notice the piped seam down the side.
When I initially put these leopard mules on, I just thought they were so much fun! I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep them though since I already have a leopard flat in my closet that I love.
However, while playing around and styling outfits at home, I’ve found that sometimes an outfit just needs a mule. So I’m keeping them. #itwasnthardtojustify They also look great with a pair of black dressy ankle pants.
Sizing tip: Size UP a 1/2 in these. In addition to leopard, this mule also comes in mustard and black.
And just because a girl likes to have options, here are other leopard shoes in the sale:
This tortoise ring belt has been in both outfits. I love it and you probably need it.
I’ve worn leopard belts for the last 2 years, so I’m happy to switch it up and update my belt game with this one.
And the bag is adorable. Like the other bag, it’s not part of the sale, so you don’t have to be a cardholder to scoop this one up! The croc, the tortoise, the gold hardware…I love it all. It also has a gold chain that can be worn over the shoulder.

And the bracelets are a modern version of Kendra’s famous cuffs.

So now I’m dying to know which of these items y’all already have. Sound off in the comments! And if you are a cardholder and want to take one more pass at the sale before it’s open to everybody, I suggest doing the following:
First, head to my last Anniversary Sale post. If you had your eye on anything before, consider this your last chance before it’s gone. And make sure you have all the bras and undies you need. I also suggest taking a final pass over the Beauty Exclusives. I purchased and absolutely love this pretty pout lip set, but I’m definitely going to take another look myself. I’m considering this jade roller duo and if you need more lash serum, you need to grab it at the anniversary sale pricing for sure.
See you back here on Friday for Friday Favorites!
A huge thank you to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

Kimi says
I have a belt question! Is there a “rule” for how much of the belt sticks out after it’s buckled? Is it supposed to go through the first belt loop after it’s buckled and be done? Or Is there supposed to be 6” of floppy belt hanging out past the first loop? Now that belts are back & so popular, I keep buying them but then I’m not sure if I have the right size – it’s hard to tell in your pictures if there’s a “flop factor,” so I thought I’d ask! What size belt do you usually choose? Thank you!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kimi! Great question, and I’ve never really thought about an official rule, but mine always seem to go a couple of inches past the first loop. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Addison says
I love anything leopard and that first pair of booties was calling my name! So cute!
Andrea says
Very cute! What size belt did you get? Small is sold out.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Andrea! I got a medium! I pretty much always get a medium in belts. xoxo
Laura JeanS. says
FedEx literally just left my house, and I LOVE my new Donna jeans!!! I trusted you on these because they looked pretty “mom jeans” online…but you were right. These are winners! Thanks for the push.. I really needed some cool new jeans this season 🙂
Sheaffer says
This makes me SO HAPPY, Lauren! So happy you trusted me, and I hope others do too! The jeans are awesome, such a cute fit, and so inexpensive during the sale! xoxo
Julie Bradford says
I haven’t tried the Kut from Kloth jeans but I LOVE the Wit & Wisdom Ab solution.. I bought the black bootcut and black skinny ankle pair and the indigo from the sale this time… I only bought one pair last sale and could’ve kicked myself when I needed a black pair and didn’t get… wasn’t happening this time 🙂 I also grabbed 2 pair of wedges and the strapless bra.. it was out of stock but checked back last night and bam it was available!!! today I am eyeing that belt… 🙂
Thanks so much Sheaffer for keeping us all in style!!!!
Sheaffer says
You definitely need to try Kut from the Kloth too! And so glad you were able to grab the strapless bra!!!! xoxo
Erin says
Kut jeans are the best ! And thanks to you I have three blardigans ( over the years )
Excellent recommendations that I look forward to every year!
Question- who has tried the lash serum?
Two bottles can last approximately how long ?
Sheaffer says
I had good results with the lash serum…but my sister Conner and my friend Cassie had EXCELLENT results!!!! I think two bottles would last about a year. xoxo
Lisa says
Just got an email that pretty much everything I ordered on Friday was canceled because of insufficient stock, I’m so sad. No Leith cardigan, halogen stripe crew neck or wit and wisdom crop pants for me. ???
Sheaffer says
Oh no! I’m so sorry, Lisa. 🙁
Shannon Gray says
Question… I am 4’10”. How would the flare jeans look on someone who clearly does not have height in her favor? I love those flare jeans!
#shortgirlprobs
Sheaffer says
Hi, Shannon! Do you have a Nordstrom card? If so, I would get them “hemmed”, but with the raw edge showing. I think as long as the proportions are right, you would be fine! xoxo, Sheffer 🙂
Suzi says
I bought the Diana jeans and love them! Also the yellow flats you featured and The Pants! Love them
V says
LOVE those leopard booties. I ordered those and I’m looking for jeans but having no luck between finding my size, ankle length, wash preference (no rips or distressing for work), and my refusal to wear anything more than a nine inch rise. I also got a new Rails plaid shirt (obsession), a cardigan, and shell…and I’m still deciding on those gorgeous kendra earrings! Are they heavy?
Sheaffer says
The Kendra earrings are SUPER light!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lindsay says
Early access question! This is the first year I’ve been able to shop early access. I placed my order 15 minutes after the sale started of my five “must-have” items. I just got an email today, a week later, telling me none of my items are available. Is this normal? I thought I did awesome purchasing in the first 15 minutes! What about my Nordstrom notes that were used? I’m assuming those will still be available. I feel the biggest letdown this morning!
Sheaffer says
Oh my goodness, Lindsay! I’m so sorry. 🙁 It seems that the people with canceled orders all ordered within the first 30 minutes of the sale. I’m betting there was a surge of orders when it first opened, and the system couldn’t keep up with updating inventory. Soooo frustrating. And I wouldn’t worry at all about your Nordstrom notes. Those will surely get credited. Again, I’m so sorry. Sheaffer
