The last time one of my posts had this title,

Carter and I met friends at the mall last Friday.
We got there a little early, so I decided to swing through the Juniors department,
and boy am I glad I did.
I picked up a jacket and thought I would try it on quickly.
Just to pass the time really.
There didn’t really seem to be anything that special about it on the hanger (or online, but we’ll get to that in a minute)
BUT I’M TELLING YOU….
it IS special.
I put it on, cocked my head to the side (do you do that too, or is it just me?)….
and then I totally oooooooohd and ahhhhhhhhhhhd over it.
I was kind of amazed at the cuteness if we’re going to be honest.
Go ahead. Please give this jacket the respect it deserves.

I looked down at my watch and realized we needed to head to the food court to meet our friends,
so I put the jacket on hold and rushed off to meet them.
As soon as I saw Shay I started talking a million miles a minute about the jacket.
Let me set the stage for you.
We were standing in line at Tin Star and I was was all,
“Shay. You’re going to die. This jacket is SO cute.
It’s kind of like the idea of a military jacket, but it’s black instead of green.”

(To be fair, that’s true…..Shay isn’t really a “black” kind of girl.
She’s more of a neon pink and neon orange with some sunshine yellow thrown in for good

I went on to say, “I know. But it fits really cute, and it has really fun brass accents.”

We placed our orders (just fyi, the migas tacos at Tin Star are to die for…they have eggs and pico and yummy white cheese AND crunchy little tortilla strips all wrapped up in the tortilla people!) and then while we were waiting on our order I whipped out my phone to show her the picture.
And that’s when the universe shifted.
In a very matter of fact tone, she said,

I knew she would.
The same exact thing happened when I texted her and told her about the
MUST HAVE denim jacket back in May.
Shay caught one glimpse of the jacket (in a picture on her phone), and she didn’t even care how much it cost. She just wanted it. Immediately.
This is why we’re friends.
We both had the same feelings about this jacket as we do about our beloved denim jacket
(and that’s saying somethin’ ladies because we are FREAKS about our denim jacket).
For Shay to buy a plain black jacket is so unlike her.

Actually, I don’t think the jacket looks all that bad……but the girl’s jeans are straight up awful.

Not only is the jacket DARLING, it is SO FLIPPING AFFORDABLE!
It is lightweight, which I love.
The fit is great.
And I’m obsessed with the brass zipper and hardware on it.
I want to marry this jacket.
I have no doubt that it is going to be my new GO TO for fall.
And I’m guessing that my denim jacket is feeling somewhat relieved considering it’s been working overtime since May.

For size reference, I’m wearing (and bought) a medium in the jacket. I have boobs and an extremely large rib cage, so a medium worked best for me. Shay got a small, Narci got an x-small.
(The small fit me okay, but I feel like the medium just hung better on me.)

I can't wait for the temp to drop below 99 degrees and then I'm going to wear the heck out of my new black jacket. It is one of the best things in my closet! It looks great, it's light, it has the fabulous gold hardware…it's just as perfect as my denim jacket (and that's saying A LOT!). I'm curious how you think it would fit on a tall girl at 5'8. I love all these cute jackets, but sometimes because of my longer torso they end up looking like cropped ones, and that's not really the look I'm going for. I did end up getting the Olivia Moon linen jacket a couple months ago, and that seems to hit just right…how do you think the black jacket compares to that length-wise? I love your blog!!! Sheaffer, this post was too funny – loved the jacket, I just bought it as well. I loved my pair of the skinny Vigoss jeans too you recommended! If I would have seen that picture of that model with this black jacket with that styling of the crazy-crotch jeans – I would have never, repeat NEVER, would have even thought about purchasing that jacket. Soooooooo, I ordered the jacket. And, as you know, I ordered those cute taupe ankle booties with the buckles. I arrived home from vacation and was SO excited to try them on—don't you know the wrong booties were in the box!! Nordies mixed up the booties and the boxes and sent me the DV Elea boot! Customer service was great, and thankfully the Colten boots were still in stock! I'll let you know how they are when they arrive………Almost forgot–Vigoss light wash skinnies arrived and they are a '10'. Thank you!!!!!!

Anyway…I loved the black jacket you talked about this morning, and as luck would have it, I was heading to Nordstrom today already! So I went down to the juniors dept and tried it on, and for me, it was too short (I'm 5'7"). However, I did end up getting this military jacket!

I really hope you check back here for my response. I'm thinking that you mis-read what I said. I was talking about people that can fit into jeans with a 24 inch waist, which is why I said "people who don't eat queso and cheeseburgers". I'm not hating on the 24 inch waist people either, I have friends that are size 24s and I love them just as much as all of my other friends. I happen to be one of the girls that DOES eat queso and cheeseburgers! (And just to be fair to the 24" waist girls, some of them eat queso and cheeseburgers too.) 🙂

Love the jacket! It looks just like one I fell in love with at JCrew a couple months ago (with the gold hardware, only that was one was navy). I didn't buy it because of the cost, but yours (I say that like you made it, ha!) is less than half the price and super cute! I'm pretty sure that means I should buy it. Now. And btw, I'm one of those size 24 people (as in inches) and I thought your comment was funny and then noticed some people took it the wrong way. Oops 😉 I'll tell you what though…usually the smaller sizes sell out quickly, but occasionally the petite get lucky. I'm pretty sure that means I should buy the jeans, too. Well, I started out reading this on my phone and then pulled the laptop out to have a closer look. I felt that since I spurned your wedges and camo pants (that you look super cute in), I was really ready to try this jacket! Even though I ALREADY bought a black jacket because you told me I needed one!!
