And although it doesn’t feel like fall yet, fall IS in fact approaching (I promise!), and I’m crossing my fingers that cooler temps come with it!!!!!
I am officially over summer clothes. WAY over.
I talked some about transitional clothing a couple of weeks ago and had a good outfit example HERE (think flare jeans and plaid) to hopefully inspire you to start prepping for fall outfits (my favorite kind of outfits!).
I’ve also been trying on some new fall clothes in store (and ordering online) trying to find some good staple pieces for my closet. One thing that I’m for sure on the hunt for is a couple of fall dresses. I didn’t have any last year, and there were a couple of occasions where I wished I would have had a dress to throw on.
A dress that you can just throw on and look totally put together is definitely a FAVORITE.
Click HERE for this buffalo plaid dress (it comes in a dark red as well).
I threw it on the second it arrived in the mail (hence the no shoes), but I just wanted to see if it fit!
And it did!
buffalo check dress / earrings / necklace
I will wear boots like THESE with it.
And you know I’m not going to talk about fall coming without talking about military jackets. Cuz they’re my FAVORITE.
I’ve got several options for you today!
THIS one fits great!
It’s a little longer than the others I have, so it covers the bootie!
It has a waist that you can cinch in, and it has a very flattering fit. I also love the brass hardware.
military jacket / similar black tee / similar jeans from same maker / earrings / converse
Or maybe you have several army green jackets in your closet (you know I don’t judge), and you want to mix it up a bit.
I love this one in navy too!

It’s no secret that THESE $8 earrings are some FAVORITES of mine.
Last week I let you know that they had released crystal….
and now they’ve released a hematite!
You’ll see them on the blog next week!
And the coral and green (found HERE) are 50% OFF right now making them $3.98!
Cassie, my girlfriend that blogs over at Hi Sugarplum, was featured last month in the Better Homes and Gardens publication REFRESH!
Cassie is definitely a FAVORITE of mine ;),
and I absolutely loved getting to see her highlighted in the magazine.
It’s a great article, there are gorgeous pics of her home, and I really loved getting to see the precious pic of her darling family!!!
Click HERE for a behind on the scenes look at the magazine shoot on Cassie’s blog!

So, I don’t normally decorate for fall around my house, but I guess the new house is inspiring me. I got a bee in my bonnet (yes, I totally feel like a grandma for saying that expression), and made this wreath a couple of weekends ago.
And you guessed it, it’s now a FAVORITE.
When I saw the burlap flowers and chevron burlap at Hobby Lobby, I was inspired! 🙂
The whole project cost me about $40!

After I made the wreath, I finally decided to erase the chalkboard that I had done for Easter.
You know, since it’s September and all.
I used a chalk pen this time instead of regular ol’ chalk, and this chalkboard is now
a FAVORITE as well! 🙂

So I shared a couple of pics with y’all last week of Carter on his first day of school.
So when Nordstrom asked me if I would talk about back to school kid’s clothes and shoes, it
was an easy “yes” for 3 reasons:
1) I had a kid that did in fact just go back to school.
2) When said kid went back to school, he did in fact wear clothes from Nordstrom.
3) Nordstrom’s kids’ department ROCKS.
And you can find big kid sizes of Carter’s Sperry’s HERE.
If you’ve seen me highlight them before, then you remember that they don’t really tie. They actually velcro and the ties are fake.

Look how cute the back of THE SHIRT is.
And look how cool he is throwing up his peace signs. 🙂
My goodness his eyes melt me.
He’s so proud!
With the exception of the jeans and the button up, everything here is COZY, so it’s totally Carter approved.
There are lots of boys’ graphic tees ON SALE HERE.
And here are some great shoe options for boys!
I got the Stride Rites pictured below for Carter.
And just because, I thought you might want to see what the first thing that happens is each day when Carter gets home.
He lays down on the floor and loves on his brother.
These two are my FAVORITES.
Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring the kid’s shoe and apparel portion of this post!
These aren’t on sale, but the DV OVER THE KNEE BOOTS are back in stock in several sizes (but going fast).

I bought the military jacket in green, read and black upon your recommendation last winter. I wore them all winter and can't wait to break them out! Thanks for always keeping me well dressed.

Sheaffer,
I will be on the road traveling this fall for work, and I'm in desperate need of a comfy new pair of black flats. LOVE that the Felicia ones are on sale. I am sure you've mentioned it here before, but do you feel like they run true to size? Thanks!!
Sheaffer says
Hi Kate! Totally true to size!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
krazgrl says
I've NEVER ordered from Nordstrom and now you have me hooked. In the few short weeks I've been following you I've placed three orders and now I'm thinking about another one. aaaccckkkkk! Question, I ordered your favorite BP Moveover Pointed Flat as well as the Vigoss Tomboy Distressed Skinny Jeans. Both are borderline snug. I'm wondering what your experience is with stretching out of both of these items. I'm tempted to size up but if they stretch might I be disappointed?
Sheaffer says
Hi there! I wouldn't size up in either initially. If you wear them and are disappointed, take them back at that point! Best customer service EVER!!!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kathryn Pay says
I ordered the nude Felicia flat this week in an 8 (I typically wear a 7 1/2 or 8) and they fit perfectly out of the box. But some of the reviews mentioned sizing down because they stretch. Now I want the red (because you're right, they are the most comfortable flat I've ever tried) but I'm wondering if I should go with a 7 1/2 to allow for stretch. Any thoughts on that?
Sheaffer says
Hi kathryn! I'm not totally sure because the Felicia flats I own are the leopard, and they aren't the same material. Mine haven't stretched, but I can't speak to the solid color ones that are all leather. Can anybody else comment on this? xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Mary says
I have them in several colors and I do feel like the leather stretches a little bit not enough to size down. Hope that helps 🙂
50daysofnogrey says
Nordstrom opens in Vancouver in 2 weeks and I'm so excited to start shopping all your great suggestions!
Mary says
Is the military jacket you're wearing in the "olive tarmac" color? It looks more brown than green in the Nordstrom photos, what color is it actually?
thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi Mary! Yes, it's the olive, and it's definitely more green than brown! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kelly Otwell says
What size did you order in the buffalo check dress? The review online says that the sleeves were tight. Did you have the same experience?
Sheaffer says
Hi Kelly! I ordered a small, and the sleeves weren't tight on me. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Lauren Boswell says
Shaeffer your fall decorations look great! I'm curious how you like the chalk pen? I'm nervous to get one, so I've been using regular olde chalk for our board. While yes it's still semi cute, I don't totally love it.
Love your input!
Ps. You should totally do a post on why husbands should let us shop at nordstroms! 😉
Sheaffer says
Hi Lauren! There are pros and cons. I definitely have more control, but it takes FOREVER to color in puffy letters. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Tammy Wahl says
Can I ask where you got your adorable chalkboard? Love it!
Sheaffer says
Hi Tammy! I got it at Home Goods last September! I saw it, fell in love, and bought it like a week before we moved in!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Trista @ The Classy Chaos says
I love love love the Fall wreath and chalkboard! I'm not much of a decorator at all but a wreath would be easy and super cute! And I'm loving all the fall clothes.. I am so ready for cooler temperatures too!
Have a great weekend!
Jessica Barshinger says
You should totally do a 52 shades of Shaeffer….just sayin' 🙂
Ms. V says
Hi Sheaffer, I LOVE your blog, it is beyond helpful and inspiring in so many ways, so thank you! I had one quick question, I'm looking to lose a few pounds and I followed your earlier posts regarding weekly results of eating healthy. Do you mind telling me how many calories you stuck to per day? I am similiar height and figure and would like to get down 8lbs -10lbs or so from a rough summer of stress eating and sporadic exercise. You had such fantastic, consistent results. Did you ever eat sweets?? Thank you so much for your honesty. Best, V
Sheaffer says
Hi V! I stuck to under 1,500 calories per day, and I worked out anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour at least 5 days per week. If I ate any sweets, it was basically a 1/2 cup of frozen yogurt at night….but I would only do that max of 3 days per week. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
