It’s Friday, so y’all know what that means! It’s time to link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to let everybody know what some of my favorite things are right now!
One of my favorite moments from this past week was just hanging out at home with this guy. Chris was out of town, and even though we miss him like crazy when he’s not with us, we also have tons of fun having slumber parties in my bed, playing games, and ordering in. This was Saturday night during a Jenga tournament. This guy ROCKS at Jenga and has some pretty fabulous dance moves when celebrating. 🙂

I’ve received no less than 10 e-mails from people in the last couple of weeks asking begging me to talk about my weight loss journey that I’m on right now. Y’all are my people. You know me so well. If you’ve been reading the blog for awhile, you know that every January I start on a 3-4 month weight loss plan. Why do I have to do it every January you ask? For you newbies, it’s because I gain it back every year June through December…and then I lose it again January-April. Is it stupid? YES. It it what I do? YES.
I’ve started, and it’s going well so far. I’m not going to blog about it like I have before (with lots of details), but I will post recipes and updates on Friday Favorites, starting today!
I’ll give you some food ideas in a second, but let’s start with this new FAVORITE FIND. I received them on Tuesday, wore them all day Wednesday (both around town doing errands and for a high impact work out), and felt compelled to put them on social media Wednesday night. BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME, and I just couldn’t wait to talk about them. What are they? ZELLA HIGH WAISTED LEGGINGS.
I’ve worn Zella leggings for over 2 years now, but this is the first time I’ve ever purchased the high waisted version, and I did it based upon reader recommendations! THANK, GIRLS! Because OH MY WORD! I still love the regular ones, but if I know I’m going to be doing a high impact work out, I will ALWAYS wear high waisted from now on. I didn’t have to mess with them AT ALL. And I’m telling you, the work out was so hard that I thought both of my lungs might collapse. We’re talking lunge burpees and weird push-ups where you lift one arm up. #imamachine 😉
I took this picture after the workout, which is why I look so pretty and fresh. Also, I’m 5’4″, and the full length leggings are several inches too long on me. I know lots of y’all get your work out pants hemmed, but if the pants are the same pattern and color on the inside that they are on the outside, I just cuff them up! See picture below. You can’t tell on the picture on the far left, but they are cuffed. You can tell on the picture on the far right (because I didn’t take the time to match the seems up).

And here are some other high waisted choices. Just click on what you are interested in:
I got some questions about my sneakers I was wearing after I posted the above picture. I think they are about 2 years old (can’t remember exactly when I got them), and they’ve held up great. They are Nike Free and I love them. They feel like you are walking on air, but they give good support as well. Click HERE for the color options available this year, my favorite is the blue pictured below.
And now for some food ideas for you. Y’all. Check out my new favorite lunch.
Avocado toast with a fried egg on top. With a side of roasted sweet potatoes. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! It’s rich, and creamy, and I actually look forward to eating it. The only problem, I legit think I could eat 3-4 avocado toasts and fried eggs in 1 setting….but that would kind of defeat the purpose now wouldn’t it.
Here’s another lunch I’m eating a lot of lately.
Salad with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, purple onion, 1/2 an avocado, and Nut Thins for crunch. The OPA Greek Yogurt blue cheese dressing is definitely my favorite right now (found refrigerated in the produce section), and I’m having small portions or roasted sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts on the side.

If y’all didn’t catch my Monday post, you need to go see it now. I highlighted an amazing pair of stretchy cords with several different tops. I ended up wearing the cords again this week, but paired them with a simple tee and one of my favorite jean jackets (I have it in two different colors). THIS one is my favorite color, and I wear it the most often.
And fyi, for those of you that love the MUST HAVE jacket, it now comes in black! I’m wearing a 4P in the cords and a small in the denim jacket.

And now for a pair of jeans that many of you have seen before, but due to some e-mails I’ve received recently asking about an an affordable recommendation for boot cut jeans, I felt compelled to show them again. I’ve also received some e-mails asking if boot cut jeans are still on trend. The answer to that is HECK YES! I tend to wear my skinny jeans more because I’m typically more casual….but I wear my boot cut jeans whenever I want to kick it up a notch. Can you tell that I look like WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY taller and skinnier than I actually am when wearing them? These jeans are straight up magic. When wearing them in the winter, a pair of wedge booties like THESE are great for the height you need for the jeans.
Now here’s the only thing I don’t like about the jeans. The light colored stitching. But I’m going to get over that (and so will you) because all we have to do is not tuck in our shirts….and then voila, no stitching! If you’ve been on the fence about boot cut jeans, notice how these aren’t very wide on the bottom. They are a very subtle boot cut, so they should ease you right on in to this boot cut trend if you are hesitant. Although I’m not sure I would call it a trend, because these babies are here to stay.
And seriously, I’m not sure how they have so much stretch in them, but still manage to provide a really snug fit…but they do!
I love this review on the site: These are like yoga pants, jeans, and a tummy tuck all in one! So comfy! I loved that description! Another reviewer said, Hands down, these are the most flattering and comfortable jeans I’ve ever owned! And another said Life Changing Jeans! No other jeans make me feel as comfortable, confident or cuter than these. Nothing compares to this fit. I mean. I’m telling you. These jeans are greatness. I’m wearing a regular 4 in them at 5’4″, but I have to wear at least a 3 inch heel with them. If under 5’4″, I think the petite option would be best.
And here’s a blog comment I received from a reader: Oh my word! You were so right about the Wit and Wisdom absolution jeans!! I really didn’t think they would work on me because I’m short and “curvy” and have gained some weight lately. LOL! The size 12 jeans fit me great! I’ve been reading your blog for two years and this is the first time I’ve commented because I’m that excited over these jeans. I love your blog and all your reviews. Thank you again!
And see below for several Wit and Wisdom options. ALL have EXCELLENT reviews. Even if you are skeptical…you at least need to try one pair of these jeans! They are zero risk with free shipping and free returns…and maybe you too will think they are LIFE CHANGING like the reviewer above! Remember, I had a friend that bought 4 pair and loved them all! And at $68, you will be getting a really great quality pair of jeans, without a crazy price tag!

A great deal is always a favorite on mine, and I found a great deal on a super cute pullover. So I of course had to make a collage to show you how I would style it!

I thought I was going to have a shot of myself wearing my new Old Navy Rock Star skinny jeans, but I just didn’t get around to it. I ordered several pair, but the only ones I loved were THESE (you’ll get to see them next week in a couple of outfits)! They are mid-rise and true to size for me! I got a 4P and they are the perfect ankle length. Some of the ones I ordered were actually called super skinny, and I was NOT A FAN of those at all.

And last, but certainly not least, if you haven’t read The Bachelor recap yet….Click HERE right now!!! I promise that your reaction will be similar to this one…
See ya’ll back here on Monday! Have a wonderful weekend with your people!

Funny you should mention boot cut jeans because I have found myself reaching for mine more than skinnies lately. I think I’m just so sick of skinny jeans. And I cuff my Zella’s too. But I cuff them under so the seam doesn’t have to match. Happy Friday!

So, you’ve convinced me. AGAIN. 🙂 Just ordered a pair of the high waisted leggings AND the boot cut jeans. Here’s to looking tall and skinny!
Stephanie Simon says
You and Carter look like twins in that first picture! I’m feeling pretty smart over here because I already have the Old Navy jeans, and I do love them! And like the girl above, you talked me into the boot cut jeans. #tallandskinnyisgood
Stephanie says
I love boot cut, whether they’re on trend or not!
I’ve never been able to get into skinny jeans, bootcut and flares just make my shape look better and they’re so comfy when you get the right pairs.
I love Wit and Wisdom jeans, too. They’re definitely a brand I splurge on every once in awhile.

You are absolutely right about the Wit and Wisdom jeans! I have ordered two pairs now based on your recommendation and love them both. They fit great, have lots of stretch to them, but don’t stretch out after wearing them like some other jeans do. Thanks for the recommendation!
April Parrish says
I love high waisted leggings!! Old Navy also offers high waisted and I love them! I’m a dance teacher so I’m in those babies everyday and they hold up great!
Alicia says
So, I have a food related question. Do you have a certain calorie count that you are going for for weight loss? I always find food stuff so hard to figure out!!
Thanks!
I second the Old Navy High Waisted work out pants. They stay up!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Alicia! I haven’t started hard core counting calories yet (but probably will)…I think in year’s past I tried to stay around 1,200-1,400 calories. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sarah S. says
Sheaffer, I love your blog and numerous recommendations! I have several pairs of work-out leggings (def want to try the high-waist!) but I’m having such a hard time finding tops long enough to cover the crotch!!! I’m a tall girl – close to 5′ 11″ and it feels impossible to find tops long enough that I feel comfortable wearing out of the house!!! If you find a brand that seems to run long, please share! I’m sure there are plenty of other tall girls with this same problem! Thanks!!!
LeAnn says
I’m with you, Sarah, and I am only 5’5″. Most of my workout tops end between my hip bones and crotch and would love to find some longer ones.
Emily King says
You ladies should try Calia by Carrie Underwood. I never knew it existed, but my husband got me a long sleeved shirt for Christmas and I went back (to size up) and got a tank top and a pair of high waisted leggings as well! I love them, they cover the crotch and dip down in the back to cover your tail. I did need to size up in all of it. I typically wear a small in everything and I needed a medium. This is the tank and it was on sale in the store: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=115338226&ab=CMS_CaliaShop_Tops&cp=4406646.84201886.12454792.50676656&categoryId=58637046

My favorite boot cut is a style from Seven For All Mankind. Definitely a splurge but they get a LOT of use!
You make healthy food look so delicious!!
Tara says
Avocado egg toast is one of my favorite lunches! Add a layer of salsa on top of the avocado and it will take it to the next level – I promise!
megan says
Great post – I love the high waisted Zella leggings.
Are you using the same workout program as last year or have you found any new workouts? What about supplements to keep your energy up when you cut calories? I feel like I lose so much energy when I’m cutting calories and then don’t feel so great when I workout.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Megan! We’re still doing Beach Body videos from Shawn T….but last year we did a different program. Our program this year is called “Max Out” (I think). I’m taking Plexus supplements! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
LeAnn says
I love my high-waisted Zella leggings. Fabletics has high-waisted leggings now (finally) and I love them, also.
Sarah says
I need some high waisted leggings!
How do you gain weight every year and never go up in the size of your pants??
Sheaffer says
Hi, Sarah! Well, there are certain pants that definitely won’t fit anymore….I just stick to the more stretchy ones at that point. I just refuse to buy a size up. I’m afraid if I do, then I will just comfortable in those….so I won’t allow it! Ha! Xoxo, Sheaffer
Emily King says
Giiiiirrrrlllll. I did that Tabata Power workout this morning and I nearly passed out. Am I the only on that thinks about Maxing Out before the first minute is up?
Sheaffer says
EMILY! The first time I did it I was like I’M OUT at like 42 seconds. My neighbor was like NO YOU’RE NOT! So no, you’re not the only one! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Karen says
I had a pair of jeans that had stitching in a color I didn’t care for. I took a Sharpie marker and colored on the stitching. All better!!
Sheaffer says
KAREN!!!!! Now this is a FANTASTIC idea!!!!!!!! I’m going to do it!!!! I guess it doesn’t wash out while in the washing machine? xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Stephanie says
Was going to suggest the same thing! I’ve done it to several pairs of jeans and totally changes the look.
Karen says
It has faded a bit (after numerous washings) but I have not re-marked them. You could test it on a hidden seam at first to see how you like it 🙂
Amanda says
Random question–LOVE your kitchen plates…what is the brand and pattern, please?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Amanda! They are from Crate and Barrel…but they are 15 years old. No idea of the pattern name. Sorry I’m not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Stephanie says
Hi Sheaffer! Where is your black top from? The one pictured with the turquoise necklace. Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Stephanie! It was a particular lush blouse from Nordstrom that is now sold out. So sorry! 🙁 xoxo, Sheaffer
Jan Pytlarz says
Hi Sheaffer! I ordered the Wit and Wisdom jeans that you recommended above, ordered them on January 13th, but they just arrived yesterday, and I LOVE THEM, they are super comfy as promised, and very long. I am 5’7″ and 150 lbs, the size 8 are perfect! Thanks for your fun blog and recommendations. My daughter in law and future daughter in law got some of your recommendations for Christmas gifts, thanks for keeping us all in style!
