Prayers continued to be answered for my friend Jill’s son, Drew!!! He’s now at home awaiting surgery. The doctors sent him home to rest up, gain his strength, and give time for the swelling to reduce in his brain before scheduling his surgery. He’s continuing to have headaches as they work to stair step him down off of his pain medication, but they are shorter lived and more manageable and he is in good spirits! I’ll say it again, he is such a sweet boy and is such a blessing to all who know him. Moving forward, please continue to pray for pain management and discernment for all involved when deciding the best time for surgery and the surgical plan. Thank you all for the continued prayers!
FAVORITE #2: STRAWBERRY POPPYSEED SALAD DRESSING
So this new dressing caught my eye AND IT IS DE-LISH! And bonus, it’s greek yogurt based so it only has 3 grams of fat and 60 calories per 2 TBSP serving!
My favorite salad right now contains the following: mixed greens, avocado chunks, strawberries, mandarin oranges, purple onion, dried cranberries, tortilla strips, and the dressing. YUM!
FAVORITE #3: COLD SHOULDER TEE
Free People is a brand carried at Nordstrom that I would describe as boho chic. Do I consider myself boho chic? Um, no. HOWEVER, I do have several items from the line that I’ve added to my closet over the last couple of years, and I really like the different vibe that their clothes have. Now, I will say this, some of their stuff doesn’t work for me…..but the stuff that DOES work, I love. Like the cowl neck pullover I fell in love with (and many of you did too!) last fall.
I first showed my newest Free People top to you a couple of weeks ago saying that I was going to be wearing it to a Girl’s Night Out with some of my neighbors. WELL. We still haven’t found a date that works for everybody, but I stand by the fact it would be a great girl’s night out top with skinny jeans and tall wedges (like below)!
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the top, so I think it’s true to size. However, some readers have said they sized down. Now I should tell you, the online reviews aren’t that great, but I really do love the top. It is a thin material like the reviews state, but I didn’t feel as if the black was see through, and several readers that have the black have agreed with me! I can’t comment on the other colors since I haven’t seen them in person, but I imagine the light colors paired with the thin material might make them sheer. Read the reviews on the top to see others opinion!

But even though we haven’t had the GNO yet, I have worn the top around town a couple of times. Here I am proving that it can be dressed down, super casual with just a pair of rolled up boyfriend shorts and flip flops.

And as I always do, I took my MUST HAVE jacket with me. #irarelyleavehomewithoutit
And this last look never made it out of the house, but I put it together for y’all to see another option. Simple and good! In this picture you can see the hem of the shirt (way more interesting than just a regular old straight edge).
cold shoulder top/ dark wash frayed hem jeans / similar leopard wedges / charm hoop earrings

So, about my jeans above. Do y’all remember when I showed you the Vigoss frayed hem jeans with the off the shoulder embroidered shirt? You can see that post HERE. Well, like I told you, I ended up returning those jeans because they fit me funny. I’m not sure what was wrong, but they just weren’t flattering on me. So I ordered THESE (seen below) with a frayed hem to try out. They fit me much better, but after trying them on, I’ve decided I want a lighter wash for spring and summer. So THESE are now on their way to me, but now there are only 2 sizes left. 🙁 In case you are interested in a dark wash, I highly recommend the ones below. I’m wearing my regular size in the picture below (a 27), but if I had decided to keep them, I would have ordered a size down for a tighter fit. They were very stretchy all over (which I loved!), but I think they would probably stretch out during the day and require sizing down.
Here are some other items that have caught my eye from Free People (especially the embroidered top)!!!!!! Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this portion of Friday Favorites!
FAVORITE #4: BP Hammered Hoop Earrings

FAVORITE #6: MEMORIES OF SWEET SCOUT
I wanted to give all of you a family update. I am so thankful we are doing a bit better over here. The first 5 days were incredibly tough (and harder than we ever could have imagined), but we are now managing our sadness better (if that makes any sense). We still cry, although less frequently now, and we have so enjoyed going through old pictures and videos as a family! We found some absolutely precious videos of Scout and Carter when Carter was about 6 months old, and it is just so sweet to see them together. I hope to show you the videos in a future post, but today I wanted to share some of our pics of Scout as a puppy before Carter came along (Scout was almost 5 when Carter was born). Get ready for cuteness overload because our little fur ball was just about as cute as they come.
The first day we brought him home, he was running in the backyard and fell in the swimming pool. So I did what any good mama would do. I jumped in to save him. LOOK AT HIM! Soaking wet and precious!
Just relaxing….
As a puppy, Scout absolutely loved going to the ranch, so he went with us all the time. Later in life he developed bad allergies and didn’t come with us nearly as frequently (they were much worse during the warmer months), but he did comes with us when we went just last month, and we are so thankful for that last trip.
I think he was about 3 months old here.
About 5 months old I think. Such a handsome boy!
We took lots of naps together. 😉 Here we are at the ranch house catching some z’s.
Fishing with his Daddy.
Definitely my favorite pic of us together.
This is Chris with Steven, one of his high school besties!
Our little family of 3 a couple of years before we had Carter.
So, thank you for the continued prayers for us and all of the incredibly sweet messages we continue to receive! We are very grateful for your thoughts and support!
Have a wonderful weekend with your people! See you back here on Monday!

Diet? What diet? 😉 It went really well from like February – April, and I’ve already fallen off the wagon. I mean, a girl has to eat tacos. Ha! Thanks for reading and for the sweet words! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Sweet sweet pictures! I know you must miss Scout very much!
Sheaffer I am going to need to know more about your hair care routine! how do you get so much volume!?!?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kim! I dry my hair with a roll brush, and then I use really big hot rollers (at a low heat) to set the curl, but not make it too curly. Does that make sense? Also, my hair is cut into layers all over, because otherwise it would be too heavy for me to achieve any volume.

What a great post! The pictures of your dog are precious and what great memories. I just got the denim jacket in the mail yesterday. I ordered a small and medium but leaning more toward the small. Does it stretch out any or shrink in the dryer? The medium is more relaxed on my size 6 body but the small nips in at the waist. I’ve never spent this much on a denim jacket but already can tell it will be worth the price. It’s amazing! I just want to make sure I get the size right.
Sheaffer says
Hi Christina! Hmmm…about the jacket. It does have stretch in, so it will stretch a tiny bit with wear. But you can also shring it up in the dryer if you want to. If I need to shrink it up, I dry it all the way. If I want to stretch it out, I pull it out after drying for about 10 minutes and give it some tugs. Because of this, I think I would suggest you buying the medium and the drying it fully if you need to! Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Christina says
Thanks! I wore the small today and love it so much. Everyone needs this jacket. I’m wondering if the fit has been redesigned because looking at your pictures my small is roomier and I believe you are a size smaller than me. If I had a bigger chest I’d go with the medium for sure! Hope this helps anyone else trying to decide on a size. Everyone needs this jacket. The faded bleached out super soft wash is perfection. I’m wearing it tomorrow, too! And Sunday ?

Love those pictures of Scout, so adorable and so sweet!

I love you’re blog, so many of my outfits have been inspired by you. Thank you so much for helping those (me) that don’t quite have the vision to think outside the box. 🙂 Love all the pictures of Scout you’ve shared…..so sweet. He was a beautiful dog.

My husband and I have don’t have kids yet so naturally our almost 2 year old Goldendoodle has become our baby and every time you post a picture of sweet Scout I cry! Automatic tears! I can’t even begin to imagine what your family is going through.
Susan says
Well I am sitting her sobbing after looking at your puppy pics. We have two big labs who have healed my heart after ten years of unsuccessful infertility treatments. They are my kids, our daughter’s brothers, and family members in every sense. I am so sorry about your precious dog. He was blessed to have you, but I am guessing that you were even more blessed to have him(: As I dry my tears, I ordered three of those dresses for my daughter and I (: Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Thank you so much for the sweet words, Susan. Animals are incredibly loyal and loving, and a piece of your heart goes with them when they leave. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

So sweet! You made me cry with your post of Scout. Animals bring such joy to our lives. They are always there when we need them. Love the pictures! Thank you for helping someone like myself with zero fashion sense. You have made shopping fun again!

so many things I want to say about this awesome post!!!
1) that shoulder top is darling on you, and I’m crazy about it with the white jeans and leopard clutch. gimme that leopard clutch
2) praise GOD for Drew’s recovery…I can’t fathom what Jill’s been going through!
3) Baby Scout…I can’t even. But baby Chris and Sheaffer make me so happy, and laugh a little bit! That one pic sat on Chris’s desk for 10 years…so I saw you everyday for 10 years.
4) that yellow and red damask-style sofa is sweet…I sure hope you still have it!!;)
5) oh, one last thing…of course you jumped in the pool for baby scout. But of course you managed to do it without getting your hair wet. I mean, maternal instinct only goes so far. xo

Aw cute pics with Scout! You can tell how well loved he was and what a great life he had! I can’t wait for the details on the leopard clutch, too cute! Have a great weekend!

I LOVE all the photos of Scout, but my favorite has to be him fishing with his daddy. And the picture with the German shorthair pointer about broke my heart. My Gracie was a GSP and looked just like that one. I rescued her from Death Row at the animal shelter, and she thanked me every day. We loved each other so much. I’m certain Gracie and Scout have made friends with each other up there while waiting for us. Thank you for sharing.
