It’s Friday, so y’all know what that means! It’s time to link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to let everybody know what some of my favorite things are right now!
FAVORITE #1: ANSWERED PRAYERS
If you follow me on social media, then you know I asked for prayers for a friend. Jill (one of my very best friends since elementary school) had a terrible scare with her oldest son on Saturday night. While pitching in a baseball game, Drew (12 years old) started getting dizzy and just not feeling right. He started throwing up, complaining of a horrible headache, and after a trip to urgent care they ended up at the hospital. The doctor at the hospital thought Drew might be suffering from more than a heat stroke, so he ordered additional tests (thank God). The tests revealed he had suffered a brain bleed as a result of a congenital AVM they didn’t know he had. On Saturday night, Jill and Michael experienced the darkest time of their lives when they thought they were going to lose their son, but through it all, they kept their eyes on God. This is precious Drew. He has a heart of gold, all of the prayers are working, and he is getting stronger every day. This young man is going to have quite the testimony.
I drove to Houston on Wednesday just to hug my friend, and it was so good to wrap my arms around her. It was also incredible to see and hear about their unwavering faith and trust in God during this whole ordeal. They had a terrible scare on Tuesday night and thought he was bleeding again (he was disoriented and couldn’t see), but swelling and low sodium levels were to blame. There has been no additional bleeding since the initial incident on Saturday night, and just last night he was moved from ICU to a regular room on the neuro foor! Please keep the prayers coming because this sweet boy and his incredible family need them. Immediate prayer requests: pain management (he is still experiencing terrible headaches), success in getting more food and fluid into Drew’s little body so that he can get stronger, the ability for all to get good rest when possible, and the doctor’s wisdom when scheduling and performing the surgery.
It also did my heart good to witness the incredible army of people surrounding my friends, doing anything and everything they need before they even ask. And PRAYING LIKE CRAZY.
Here are some pictures I was able to put my hands on of Carter with Jill’s boys. Hunter, Adam, Drew, Carter
When they were little and we were there visiting for the weekend.
And when they were really little!
Thank you all for praying for these important people in my life. The Gilbert family is so appreciative of all your prayers. If you would like to keep up with their story (and know the specifics of what to pray for!), please click HERE and sign up for his Caring Bridge notifications. Jill’s words about this experience will deepen your faith.
FAVORITE #2: THE SAMARATIN INN
My friend Brennan (in the pink blazer) is the volunteer coordinator at The Samaratin Inn. “The Samaritan Inn is more than just a place to spend the night. It is a comprehensive program that teaches self-sufficiency and life skills to meet the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. We help willing people gain dignity and independence. On a typical night, approximately 160 people sleep at the Inn, of which 60 are children.”
Last week I went to an event at their resale store to help some ladies find interview appropriate attire. These women were sweet as can be, so appreciative of the help, and I loved getting the chance to meet them. It was such a great night!
Here’s a close up of my outfit, made up of lots of items you’ve seen before!
MUST HAVE shirt / necklace c.o. Accessory Concierge/ LOFT Marisa ankle pants / scalloped tote / black wedges / circle hoop earrings
FAVORITE #3: SHIMMER BRICK
I’ve had the below shimmer brick going on 2 1/2 years. I got it for Christmas 2 years ago, and it had another good 6 months in it…until I dropped it last week and it shattered. SAD FACE. I used it as an all over bronzer and did a heavier application for eye shadow. Here’s what’s so sad. This was a limited edition color palette. WHAH!!!!
So I went online to order another shimmer brick, and I saw this graphic.
So, instead of ordering another shimmer brick, I ended up going with THIS illuminating powder (because I think it’s going to still have a good amount of coverage and bronzer without so much shimmer). I got “Buff”. I’ll let you know my thoughts after I receive it!
FAVORITE #4: THIS NECKLACE
So if you follow me on social media..and you totally should by the way (facebook HERE and instagram HERE) then you saw this picture last weekend. I had shown you THIS NECKLACE with a dressy outfit, but over the weekend I showed you how I wore it with distressed jeans and a tee!
The sweet girls at Accessory Concierge re-activated the code when I told them I was going to be showing it a lot in today’s post! Use the code SUMMERSTEAL for 20% OFF!
necklace / striped tee sold out/ similar cuffed jeans (less distressed) / nude leather flats / earrings
Here I am wearing it to a neighborhood brunch earlier this week with my white jeans and chambray shirt.
necklace c.o Accessory Concierge/ chambray shirt (only Mediums are left)/ BEST WHITE JEANS EVER (on backorder)/ nude leather flats/ Savannah tote c/o Barrington (use the code PTMTSAVE10 for 10% OFF!)
Here’s the necklace in a fancier outfit from a couple of weeks ago…
necklace c.o Accessory Concierge / scalloped tank / BEST STRAPLESS BRA EVER / blingy hoop earrings/ BEST WHITE JEANS EVER / cork wedges ON SALE! / cork clutch c.o Grateful Bags / additional script monogram HERE / additional block monogram HERE
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the tank (true to size), a 4 in the jeans (true to size), and I sized up a 1/2 size in the cork wedges.
FAVORITE #5: MY NEW TOP AND MY FAV PILCRO SHORTS
If you want a little white tee with some extra somethin’ somethin’, well then THIS top from LOFT is for you! It also comes in navy (which would look awesome with white jeans!) and crimson. The white is a bit see through, and you could probably get away without wearing a cami under it, but I personally love the look of the cami under it. And what better way to accessorize this simple outfit than with my favorite tassel necklace.
This looks screams READY FOR SUMMER!!!!! And if you don’t have a pair of THESE SHORTS yet, you need to grab a pair! VERY STRETCHY AND CRAZY COMFY. And they come in tons of colors and have fantastic reviews! UPDATE: And this morning Anthro launched a 20% OFF EVERYTHING event with the code XOXO!!!! So since these shorts are 20% OFF, I’m definitely grabbing another pair for myself (getting the “red” which actually looks more liked a heathered coral…so great in person!), and probably THIS navy henley swing tee….and let’s be honest, who knows what else. See some of the other items that are on my radar in just a second!
crochet trim sweater / $12 cami / wood bead tassel necklace / cz studs / pilcro shorts / chambray TOMS sandals
Let’s talk about THESE sandals for a minute. OH MY. They are incredibly comfy. Like wear them all day…even if you are going to the zoo or Disney World comfy. When doing a lot of walking, I definitely prefer something with an ankle strap so my foot isn’t sliding around. Some straps are uncomfortable, but not these! They are a soft and flexible material (I think it’s a suede) and they don’t bother me at all! If you don’t like the chambray (you crazy by the way), you can find black and brown leather HERE, and there are other similar ones available in other colorways and patterns HERE. If you hop over to my facebook page HERE, you can see that several people have left HIGH PRAISE for these shoes saying they have them and agree that they are the most comfortable shoes EVER!
Now because of the Anthro sale, I thought I would highlight several Anthro things that have caught my eye! 20% OFF EVERYTHING with code XOXO!
FAVORITE #6: THE EMROIDERED TOP
I know lots of you liked my top from Wednesday’s post! I’m thinking I’ll be wearing it to the Cindo de Mayo neighborhood party this weekend, but ON THE SHOULDER (like below) and with my Old Navy cut-offs and some flip flops for a more casual look!
embroidered top / earrings / frayed hem jeans in picture / t-strap wedges c/o UGG /watch / tassel bracelets / sunglasses / Savannah tote c/o Barrington / THE BEST STRAPLESS BRA EVER
FAVORITE #7: QUICK MALL TRIP
I ran to Nordstrom on Tuesday, because I wanted to take Jill a blardigan when visiting her in Houston. I figured she’s going to be in the hospital awhile with sweet Drew and she would get lots of use out of it since those dang hospital rooms are always so cold. Well, I ran in just to pick up the blardigan, but several things caught my eye that I had to try on.
I saw these cut-offs on a mannequin, and they appeared a bit longer than most of those available out there right now, so I tried them on. I know lots of you are looking for longer than a 3″ inseam, and THESE were great! I liked the lighter color and the longer length. I’m wearing a 27, so they are true to size.
I’m always attracted to popovers, and this one was no different. It comes in coral as well! I’m wearing a small, so I think it was true to size.
This tee caught my eye as well! I knew the olive color would look great with the necklace, and I’m really into the relaxed tee look right now. I’m wearing a small in the tee, so I think it’s true to size. If you would like it less relaxed, I would suggest sizing down 1 size.
tee / necklace (remember to use the code SUMMERSTEAL for 20% OFF!) / similar cuffed jeans (less distressed) / nude leather flats
FAVORITE #8: A SUMMER BLARDIGAN!!!
And speaking of blardigan…in the quest for all things cozy, y’all know I HAD to order THIS. It’s a blardigan for summer! I’m so excited to try it! (There are actually several new Barefoot Dreams products all found HERE.) I’m actually wearing my original blardigan right now (no shame), but I love the idea of one in a summer weight, so I’m happy about this one getting delivered next week! The site describes it as an “ultrasoft open cardigan cut to a sumptuously draped silhouette goes seamlessly from idle hours to afternoons out.” Um, OKAY!
That’s it for today everybody! Hug your people tight, please continue to pray for Drew and family, and have a wonderful weekend!!!
Erika Slaughter says
Wahoo for good news! I’m so glad he was moved out of ICU. Praying for Drew and his family! And I’m sure Jill was so happy to see you. Thanks for loving on your friends in big ways, Sheaffer!! XOXO

Love, love, love all of the outfits in this post. Thanks for sharing, and happy Friday!
Rebecca Lingerfelt says
I know you didn’t do it for praise and compliments but I LOVE you took the Momma a blardigan. I’m sure she will appreciate that so very much. When there is a health crisis people will (lovingly and meaning to be sincere) often say “what do you need or what can I do?” What people don’t realize is most of the time the person being asked that question can’t even think clearly so to just DO something and meet a need is wise and wonderful. I am following this sweet boy and his story on CB and am so grateful he got moved to a private room. You had me at 3 sons as I have 3 grandsons and yesterday we hospitalized the middle one with severe asthma/pneumonia. Getting great care and hoping to be home soon! Happy Mother’s Day dear
Sheaffer says
Hi Rebecca! I completely agree with the idea of JUST DOING SOMETHING…. ANYTHING! You’re right, when they are in this type of a fight, they have no idea what they need! She texted me last night to tell me she was all snuggled up in the blardigan and laying next to Drew watching him sleep. My heart just about burst with my love for them. Hoping your grandson gets better fast and has a short stay!
Laci Murray says
Prayers for your friends boy!! A summer blardigan? YES!!!!
Renee says
I LOVE a good leopard skinny belt. My second one has just bit the dust and I need a new one. I see you wearing yours in quite a few outfits but you don’t tag it. Where is yours from? Thank you!!
Sheaffer says
Hi Renee! I LOVE mine…sadly, I purchased it from LOFT several years ago. There used to be a similar one from Nordstrom, but it has sold out. I couldn’t find a similar one, but when I do, I will definitely post about it! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Julie Higginbotham says
You are a sweet friend Sheaffer – they have been on my mind all week. So thankful he is getting better.
Sheaffer says
Hi Julie! I just had to get my arms around her! Laura Farr and Aron Northington went with me, and it did us all so much good. We all burst into tears as soon as we laid eyes on each other. We are so thankful that he is headed in the right direction! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Sending hugs and positive thoughts to Jill and her family and that sweet little boy, so scary! Lovin’ all your outfits as usual!
Chelsey says
Hi Sheaffer!
I’m not sure if you’ve ever tried this before, but the Pinterest hack for fixing broken compacts totally worked for me. I had dropped one of the Becca illuminating powders a few weeks back and did NOT want to waste that baby, so I figured it was worth a shot. You basically pour a little rubbing alcohol into the compact and then smooth it around with the back of a spoon. You can put plastic wrap over it, too, and press it down with your finger if you want it to set more evenly. After it dried, it definitely wasn’t as pretty haha, but the highlighter is back in action! Worth trying to salvage if you still have the little pieces/haven’t trashed it yet 🙂
Amy says
I was just coming here to post the same thing! I’ve done this and it works. I actually need to do this with a Laura Mercier powder. You could also put it in a small container of some kind with a lid and just use it as loose powder.
Carolyn Reitz says
Hi Sheaffer.
What is your opinion between the Kendra Scott Rayne necklace in pink and the one you show from AC? They are similar. I want to get a pink necklace but can’t decide between the two. Any thoughts?
Thanks and Happy Mother’s Day.
Carolyn
Sheaffer says
Hi Carolyn! I would recommend the Accessory Concierge necklace! I LOVE my Rayne necklaces, but lots of people have them, so I like the uniqueness of the one from A.C. Also, the beads on the actual necklace are GORGEOUS! Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jenny says
I’ve been praying for Jill and her family! Thanks for the updates!!
cassie {hi sugarplum} says
So so thrilled to hear the news about Drew…we’ll keep the prayers coming. And you look so darling in all those sandals!
Carrie says
Thank you for including sweet Drew on this post! That boy has a heart of gold! I know it helped Jill’s spirit to see the three of you on Wednesday! It was nice to meet you at the hospital!
Sheaffer says
Thank you Carrie for being there for them! They love y’all and are so lucky to have such an amazing support system! Xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Laura Stevenson says
Soooo glad that Drew is feeling better! I thought I recognized him and suddenly realized Drew has been on my son’s football team, the Rebels, the last three years! I can’t believe they went through that and we are so thankful Drew is ok. Great kid!! And you are such a good friend. :).
Janet says
Great news for a rainy Monday! and such a fun read. You do an awesome job of describing the clothing options, and I”m interested in the Anthropologie Pilcro shorts, but that was the only thing (that I can find today) that you didn’t give a real life size check. True to size or not? Thanks.
Sheaffer says
Hi Janet! I’m wearing a 27, so they are true to size! Some people have said they sized down, ut I didn’t find that necessary. Hope that helps!
Lindsay says
So glad your friend’s son is getting better! This is totally random…but LSS? Is your middle name sheaffer? If so, what is your first name?
Sheaffer says
Hi Lindsay! Yes! So thankful for Drew’s progress. My name is Lauren Sheaffer Sims. My parents named me Lauren (first name) Sheaffer (middle name), but always called me Sheaffer!
