Sheaffer Told Me To

Black Jeans? Really? YES MA’AM!

September 29, 2014 By Sheaffer 84 Comments

I used to have a pair of black jeans.
I say used to because I donated them a couple of years ago.
Why did I donate them?
Because I never wore them.
Never.
Ever.I would put them on, but then I would always take them off before leaving the house.
I just thought that maybe black jeans weren’t for me.

But then last year I started seeing DARLING outfits all over Pinterest….outfits with black jeans.
Outfits that I couldn’t recreate because I didn’t have a pair of black jeans.
#bloggerfail

This year I couldn’t continue to overlook black jeans.
Take a look at this next collage with me.
If you don’t have a pair of black jeans, and if you don’t even think you want a pair of black jeans…
I’m 99.99% sure that this collage will make your re-think your stance.
And if you already own and love black jeans, then I’m sure you are shaking you’re head at me in shame.  That’s okay, I’m shaking my head at myself too! 😉
I’ve been missing some major fashion opportunities girls!

class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”>1 HERE / 2 HERE/ 3 HERE / 4 from One Little Momma HERE / 5  HERE

I KNOW!
Again, if you already have black jeans, you are probably patting yourself on the back.
Good for you.

So if you don’t have them, are you jumping on the black jean train yet?
If not, I have one more pic that will surely push you off the fence….
this will be an outfit recreation in the very near future fo’ sho’.

source not accurate – if you know the source please leave it!

Case closed with that last pic, right?

I mean, I dare you to tell me now that you don’t want a pair of black jeans.
What?
That’s right. You can’t.So, I went on a quest for black jeans.  I actually ordered 8 pair right before the move to be delivered to the new house.  (I knew I was going to be busy for several weeks and not going to be going on mall field trips for hours to find the perfect jeans, so I thought having them at the house would be the best option.  When they all arrived, Chris may have thought otherwise.)  😉

So there’s the deal…
Out of the 8 I ordered, I hated 5 of them.
I can’t tell you exactly why I hated them, I just did.
But I tell you this, if they didn’t make me look as skinny as possible, they were on the “no” list.  🙂
If we’re going to be honest, that’s how it works with lots of my clothes.
Same with you?

These were my 3 favorites, and they are all under $65!
a.  Wit and Wisdom jeans HERE – $64

b.  Old Navy Rockstar Zipper Super Skinny jeans HERE – $36.94

c.  Mya Ankle Zipper jeans HERE – $59

The ones that I ended up going with?
OPTION C.
The length was perfect on me, they were a great fit, and I really liked the zippers at the ankles.
For size reference, I got the 27.

I had actually ordered “b” for myself after my Old Navy post, but when I received them, they were too long.  I think that at 5’4″ I should have gotten the “short” option if I didn’t want to have to get them altered.

However, by the time I realized that they were too long for my liking, my 8 pair of jeans had arrived, and when I tried them on, I fell in love with THESE .
So the Old Navy pair went back (even though I think the short version would have worked on me), and I kept the Mya ankle zipper jeans.

So…….
I knew immediately what outfit I was going to put together first with the jeans.

Y’all remember the pantless picture of me in the blue plaid flannel on Friday (see below)?
Well, I decided to go ahead and put some pants on with it and see how I liked that look.

Cuz I’m crazy like that.

So I put this next outfit together in my mind.  And in my mind, it was DARLING.

shirt HERE / jeans HERE
earrings HERE / MK silver watch HERE / TB wrap bracelet HERE
leopard flats Macy’s HERE and Piperlime HERE (limited sizes available) and Zappos HERE (limited sizes)
(FYI:  The Lucky Emmie flats that I’ve featured before are on sale for $44 HERE.)

Darling, right????
Well…..
In real life I thought it was even better!!!!!!!!
Check this outfit out!!!!!
Simple. Easy. CUTE!
And I am absolutely smitten with the black denim!
I can’t wait to recreate several of the outfits in the Pinterest collage at the beginning of the post!

I thought the blue plaid looked great with the black jeans.  And then I threw in the leopard.
AND. OH. MY. WORD.
This entire outfit will be in heavy rotation this fall.
Look at me.
Now I love black jeans.

I know it’s hard to tell, but trust me,  the jeans were a great fit.
And at $59 they are a really good buy too!
Again, for size reference, I’m wearing a 27.

My other favorites were the Wit and Wisdom jeans HERE.
For size reference, I was wearing a 4.
If you like jeans that sit a little higher on your waist, then these might be for you!
They were also longer and didn’t have zippers at the ankles.

And here are the rockstar zipper super skinny jeans from Old Navy (before I took them back).
I really think if I had ordered these in a “short” they would have been perfect!
Like I said in a previous post, they remind me of some much more expensive jeans you can find HERE (Joe’s) and a mid-priced version HERE from Treasure and Bond (these have amazing reviews!).  I really wish I would have ordered the Treasure and bond ones to try for myself.  That was a total oversight on my part.
Click HERE for the Old Navy version.
For size reference, I sized up and was wearing a size 6.

I liked the look better with the shirt out with the leopard flats in the previous picture…but I
did really love the cognac booties paired with the black jeans in this outfit too. The cognac booties above are from Old Navy.
But although I loved the color, I didn’t love the quality.

So here are some other cognac bootie options:

a) HERE / b) BP bootie HERE / c) sperry HERE
So, I’m dying to know?!?
Are you already President of the Black Jean Club?

I'm not a fan of black jeans. Scratch that. I wasn't a fan of black jeans, until just now. I'm going to buy your favorites with the ankle zip at the bottom. I already have the blue plaid shirt from when you talked about it last week, and I already have some leopard flats from when you talked about them last year. So I have to buy the jeans. Right? Yes, I have to.

Random question…..after reading your blog for awhile now….and after hearing you rave about the Sam Edleman leopard flats….and seeing all the cute things you wear with them…..I finally broke down and bought a pair about a month ago- which was a stretch for this SAHM on a budget. I'm SO glad I did and have LOVED them. Just wondering why you have been wearing the pointy toed, Steve Maddens more lately. I know they each have a little different look to them (one pointy and one more round). Just an observation and hoping I'm not already "so 2013" :). LOVE the blog!

I like black jeans. However, they have a shelf life (if you wear them frequently) similar to that of a white tee. They should be replaced every year and honestly don't get better with age! On another topic, I must be about your size but taller (5'6"). I am 52. I have thighs, not skinny thighs like some and not big thick apple thighs like others. So I always wonder what is the correct "tightness" in the thighs. Maybe you should do a post along the lines of leggings aren't pants instead it's along the lines of how tight is too tight? I adore my Wit and Wisdom jeans (I have those in blue and black) because they are tight enough without being too tight.

Totally worth the price….cost per wear will play out since you will never want to take them off! They never bag out and make you look slim and sexy! They are awesome!

I have a pair of black Wit and Wisdom jeans that I love! They are easily my most comfortable pair of jeans. I'm six feet tall, so they are a little short on me – but either I wear them with boots and it doesn't matter, or I just go for the cropped look with ballet flats. I cannot wait to (hopefully) fit into them again once I have a baby this fall!

I'm curious if you tried on a pair of black jeans from LOFT? I got a pair delivered last week and am excited to wear them! Like you, I've seen so many cute black jean outfits on Pinterest, and they are so flattering!
The blue plaid old navy shirt is on its way to me and I got the Sam Edelman leopard flats during the spring Nordstrom sale, so I'm excited to recreate this outfit. 🙂

Ya talked me into the blue flannel! It is on it's way. I did order a large because of the reviews warning it shrinks. Definitely washing on delicate in cold water and air drying. Love your fun, energetic, conversational writing style and blog. Feels like we are friends.

I actually have black jeans AND I ordered that flannel shirt because of you. I went with it just because I thought it would look good with my black jeans. It should be delivered tomorrow. And I also got the black cord skinny pants from GAP that the shirt might go with.

Love black fitted black pants, but i have a hard time finding the perfect black jean but I'm on the hunt. In the meantime, I recently bought a black fitted pair of pants with small black polka dots from j crew factory called the gigi pant. They almost like leggings, so comfy and soft. They go with pretty much everything. Check them out!

You really can't beat black skinny jeans, they're so versatile and I love your classic leopard pumps. You look great!

Add a leopard scarf to the denim shirt and black jeans and you pretty much have my go to outfit. At least once a week when it finally gets cooler.

I honestly can't believe you didn't have black skinny jeans! I have to buy a new pair every so often bc I wear them so often in fall and winter (despite washing with Woolite Darks, most do fade).

I have a pair of black skinny jeans and I love them. They were the perfect pants to wear to work when I taught special needs children for MISD because we could only wear jeans on Fridays. But different colored skinny jeans were a loophole some of us found. It was a way to dress up but still be comfortable and wear cute shoes.

I bought the old navy Rockstar black jeans last fall. I loved them at first but after about 2 washes the turned totally faded. After reading your post I think I'll try again but stay clear of the old navy variety.

I absolutely love my black skinny jeans, so much so I bought a second pair with rhinestones on the back pockets! I wear them so much, I can't remember wearing my blue ones! I pair them with a chambray shirt like you did. I also have two chambray shirts – one has bronzy metal bubbles on the shoulders, very cute. I also wear a red/black flannel shirt and dress it up with a shinny statement necklace. In the spring/fall I wear them with simple black flip flops and add a cute white shirt then top with a pink, melon or teal long cotton sweater. Keep spreading the word, I've had mine for two years and get so many compliments; even my daughter said she loved my black jeans!

I know your post is a little old, but found it through Pinterest and thought I'd add my two cents. 🙂
I've been in love with black jeans for the past 2 years! I've actually tried several myself, but FINALLY found the perfect ones at Express. I've probably bought at least 4 pairs by now. I have tried to air dry them as much as possible to avoid fading, and if you do these could last quite awhile. I just have several so I can rotate. Here is the link for $79, but Express always has coupons, so I've never spent more than maybe $40. Enjoy! http://www.express.com/clothing/women/black-mid-rise-skinny-jean/pro/7016311/cat1730040
