We had our last dining room table for 13 years, and I didn’t want it to make the move with us.
I bought the table (it was a harp base antique-ish mahogony table) during our first couple of months of marriage…at a Catholic Charity Center (kind of like a Salvation Army) for $120.
The table…and four chairs….for $120.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever been more proud of myself than I was that day.
It was actually a beautiful set! Sure, one of the chairs would have collapsed had anybody actually sat on it, but it looked good!
We sold the table, chairs, and separate china cabinet before we moved to the new house, and I knew I wanted something totally different for the new space.
I wanted rustic, lighter wood, upholstered chairs, and just an overall cleaner and more updated feeling. Well, we were in the house for 4 months before I even really thought about the dining room. It sat completely empty for those 4 months. And then, all of a sudden during the week of Christmas, I wanted it to done. You now how that works. 🙂
I’ve spent time the last 2 months working on this room, and though it’s not totally finished yet, I’m very happy with how it’s looking so far!
We might paint it, I’m looking for something to possibly put on the sideboard between the two lamps (we will raise or lower the picture above the sideboard depending on if we find anything or not), and MAMA NEEDS A RUG!
Sources for things in room:
and I still love them.
Our last home didn’t have hardwood floors, so until we moved, I’ve never had to pick out rugs before. I was able to find one that I liked for the main living area, but this area kind of stumped me.
Enter Michaela over at Michaela Noelle Designs (you can also find her on instagram HERE).
She threw together a couple of mood boards for me with two different rug choices that she suggested. (Find all of the services she offers HERE.)
And if you want to see how DARLING little Miss Michaela is, click HERE. 😉
I was soooooo overwhelmed with the THOUSANDS of rug options out there, but the second I looked at the two choices (she found two GORGEOUS rugs from Lulu and Georgia), I knew which rug I wanted to try.
I would love to know y’alls opinions though too, so vote for #1 or #2!

FAVORITE #2: LEOPARD WEDGES
I guess it’s not really fair for me to call these a favorite…since I don’t own them…yet….
But I know you girls are always on the look-out for a good wedge, and I thought these were awesome! They are UGGs (so they are totally comfortable), and I love the fun leopard pattern!
They have a good heel height (high, but not so high I felt unsteady walking in them) and true to size, kind of.
I’m normally a 6 or a 6 1/2, and the 6s were perfect in these.
Click HERE for the leopard wedges.
#meow
And yes….I was wearing my camo pants….again.
Take another look at those wedges.
Yep…..they’re fab.
And remember, they are a neutral!
A super fun and sassy neutral!

FAVORITE #3: MY NEW CAMO PANTS.
BECAUSE DUH.
So, y’all are in luck, and my new camo pants are STILL ON SALE!!!! WooHoo!
This was me running to the grocery store earlier this week.
camo pants HERE
The pants are still on sale an an ADDITIONAL 40% OFF, which makes them like $32.99!
striped jersey hoodie HERE (IT’S ON SALE FOR $10!!!) /
grey slip ons HERE (almost sold out)
My grey slip on sneakers would be a favorite # by themselves, if they were re-stocked.
NORDSTROM! HERE OUR PLEA! RE-STOCK THESE BAD BOYS!
I’m enjoying the style and the easy and casual slip on nature of them so much, I thought I would give you girls some slip-on options!
THESE are new from Vans. AND THEY ARE NAVY STRIPES! Swoon!
And UNDER $50! Double Swoon.
Another option HERE from TOMS.
They are nylon, and I’m kind of freaking out about them.
I think they are DARLING.
And they come in a bright orange-y red too that I think looks so fun and springy!
And don’t forget these I showed y’all last week!
I just knew when I came home to find them online there were going to be a ton of STELLAR reviews on them, but there aren’t any reviews yet! 🙁
But OH MY WORD at the comfort level.
SO. STUPID. COMFY.
LOTS of colors available available to choose from (including a fun coral and a GORGEOUS BRONZE that I’m dying over!)
I think the ones that I’m wearing are actually the “white”. They lean a little grey, and I liked that!
Also, THESE are quite expensive ( $195 ), but the reviews are amazing!
If you have travel plans this summer that involve lots of walking, this shoe might be for you!
They have 45 5 STAR reviews, but most people suggest to size down.

FAVORITE #4: BP Camis
Camisoles are a big part of my wardrobe during the spring and summer months. I have lots of light and airy button ups that require them, and I also have some tees that I just prefer to wear camis under (either because I like how the cami smooths me out under the tee, or because the top might be a little too low-cut and I like the extra coverage).
Well, all of my camis were on their last leg, so it was time to order new. I ordered several ranging in price from $12-$36. Yes, I was willing to pay up to $36 if it was great quality and I loved it.
But you know what? I liked the $12 ones the best!
TOTAL. SCORE.
For size reference, the medium was perfect on me.
VERY fitted, but not squeezy, if you know what I mean! 🙂
And fyi, it has 174 5 STAR REVIEWS. And it’s TWELVE DOLLARS.
I ordered “white” and “tan doeskin”.
And at $12 a pop, I’m going back for black, oatmeal, and probably the coral pink.
THESE ARE GREAT CAMIS AT AT AN AMAZING VALUE!

Y’ALL! THE HOODIE IS FROM OLD NAVY TOO! AND IT’S ON SALE FOR $10!
For size reference, I’m wearing smalls in both the hoodie and the jacket!

The little guy had 50s day at school a couple of Friday’s ago, and he ROCKED IT.
I put this on ig, but it never made it to the blog, and I wanted to give everybody a chance to ooh and aah over how cute he is. 🙂
And I’ll tell you this, he is just as much fun as he looks!

AND…nominations will open for Special Mamas (Mamas of kids with special needs).
I’ll announce the prize on Monday, but trust me, it’s good. REALLY good.

Have a great weekend everybody!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
p.s.
I received lots of great feedback yesterday about this pair of jeans that I’ve already featured this week.
Click HERE for these jeans that are getting LOTS of attention!
And great news! They are still fully stocked!
I received some blog comments and some e-mails, but I wanted to share my favorite review with you……I’m thinking Lisa needs to work for Nordstrom in their jean department because she’s pretty dang convincing!
Hi! I have the Treasure and Bond jeans and LOVE them! I wear a lot of AG and Citizens and these compare to those brands. Excepts that these are a fraction of the cost. They are mid-rise (not low waisted, not super high), don’t stretch too much as you wear them and are a great spring/summer color. I wear mine cuffed with booties, converse, flat, etc. I would say they are true to size. I buy the same size in them as I do my designer jeans. Run, don’t walk, to get them at this price! Hope that helps~ Lisa Blankenship
THANK YOU LISA!!!! 🙂

I prefer rug #1. I think it will give the room a little more color. I know it's hard to tell from a picture, but I personally think the room would be "too white" with rug #2 ( I really hope that makes sense to you!!!! HAHAHA). Also, you are killing my wallet these days with all of your awesome clothes & shoes finds 😉 HAHA!!!
Talley Family says
Crazy question . Do you need to wear a bra under cami? I am thinking yes but just wanted too check ! Thanks so much!
Sheaffer says
Hmmmm…..I guess that would depend on your girls. 🙂 I will be wearing a bra under mine for sure, mainly for the lining that the bra provides (if you know what I mean). 🙂 Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I like Rug Option #1.
Those leopard wedges are to die for….LOVE THEM!!!!
Carter is super cute and so stylish for 50's day!
Have a blessed weekend!
Amanda Bullard says
Ok the rugs are up my alley. Rug number one subdues your rustic finished buffet. Rug number two really brings out the charm. So do you want to high light the antique look or chill it out? I say bring it out! Those shoes are screaming my name…..oh my gosh. Love it all!!! Over from the link up!
Heather says
I like rug #2 the best. We just built a house 8 months ago and have all hardwoods too. So I can relate to the rug dilemma! I know you can't go wrong with either rug. I prefer the pattern of the second rug–more detailed and will get depth to your overall room, IMO.
Kellie says
Rug #2
Kathy Olson says
I love your dining room! Very fresh and classic. I think I like choice #2 a little bit better for the rug, but both would look great. It will really finish out your room.
Loved those photos of your little boy!
I am going to have to do your workout plan. All my jeans are feeling snug!
Have a great weekend!
Amber Puckett says
def rug #2! I agree that it will add more depth. I have one very similar in my house on hardwood floors. I love all the detailing on it!
Lori says
I would like to nominate my hair stylist, Chelsea, for your Special Mama contest. She found out during her pregnancy that her baby boy would be born with hydrocephalus. He just turned a year old in December and it has been a year filled with doctor appointments, hospital stays, stress, and celebrating small victories. She is such a beautiful young girl, inside and out. She has handled all of this with such an amazing attitude and such love for this darling boy. She spends her days making others feel beautiful. I would LOVE to see her be on the receiving end of the pampering. Thanks for considering her!
Sheaffer says
Hi Lori! Chelsea sounds like such an amazing mom! The giveaway doesn't start until Monday, so you will need to come back on Monday and leave this comment on Monday's post! Sorry for any confusion! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
April says
I am in love with rug #2! They are both great but that one just speaks to me. You have put your dining room together beautifully!

Great job on your dining room! I would go with rug #1, change the wall color to gray and do the area rug in a taupe color instead. Love your dining table and chairs! I am also in the process of choosing area rugs and doing a little redecorating around my house. I have been in my home 7 years and it's time for a little refresh! Btw, your son is just too cute!!
Candace Wall says
I vote rug #2! I love the pattern and the light color ties in everything in your beautiful dining room!

I would like to nominate Victoria Linton for the special Mama contest. Her little girl, Zoe, has a condition where she doesn't feel pain as well as other disabilities. Victoria spends countless hours in clinics and hospitals with Zoe being treated for her injuries and also fitted for back braces and other things to help her. I was in a Mommy and me class with Victoria and her son, so I follow her on Facebook. It breaks my heart to see the injuries that Zoe causes to her body because of her condition, and I cannot imagine what it does to her Mama's heart. On top of Zoe's problems, Victoria also found out that she was a carrier of the BRCA 1, and opted to have a double mastectomy in January. She handles each day looking ahead and trying to see the positive. Let's not leave out the fact that we leave in Minneapolis which is a whopping 25 degrees below zero right now. That is down right depressing in and of it's self. Please strongly consider Victoria as your special Mama. I know something like this recognition could really lift her spirits. I love you and your blog! – Katie Van Vooren
Sheaffer says
Hi Katie! Victoria sounds like an awesome special mama! The giveaway doesn't start until Monday, so you will need to come back on Monday and just copy and paste this in the comments on Monday's post. Sorry for any confusion! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Michaela says
Thanks for having me help you with your rugs! I would vote…but you and I are already bias towards one 🙂 So fun to see everyone else sharing their favorite option!
Brett Van Vooren says
Thank you! Must be the cold disturbing my ability to read. Will do!
Mary Williams says
Both rugs are pretty, BUT I think in the long run you'll be happier with a rug with more color in it. I'd try to find something that picks up the color of those fun side chairs! Your DR is super pretty! Also love all the slip on sneaks.
Kristi Gordon says
I vote rug #2, I love the brightness it would bring to your darker floors.
Jenni says
Great options! I vote #1 because I just love the style! And how cute it your little guy!!! =) xoxo

I'm always on the look out for things that you tell me to wear! We, unfortunately, don't have a Nordstrom and I am not easy to fit. But, your posts give me a great place to start! I found these slip ons at Pay Less. They are VERY comfortable. Just thought I'd pass it on to anyone else who was looking.

#1 !!! #2 is too white & floaty for all the white & light colors in the room. #1 would ground everything. Love what you've got going on so far btw:)

Rug #2. I keep going back to it's rich texture, yet modern colors. I can also see your walls a deeper shade with it. Love your table & chairs!

Beautiful dining room. Can I be devils advocate and just say NO RUG! It's beautiful the way it is – let that gorgeous wood shine! And really, rugs in any room (but especially under a table designed for dining) gross me out. They harbor so much dust, dirt, and old crud that never goes away. Maybe paint one wall if you want to add a pop of color?
GuillotFam says
Voting late for rug one. You know what would be pretty? Board and batten on the buffet wall with a pretty wallpaper above. Gorgeous room!
