However, I never thought I was “with it” enough to pull off some of their creations.
But then I found THESE tees, and I became a big ol’ fan.
(You’ll see pics of me in the tees at the end of the post.)
So when Nordstrom reached out to see if I would talk about Free People, I knew I could of course gush about the tees (which was enough to get me excited about the post)!
But I also thought it was a good reason for me to get up my courage to try other pieces of theirs as well.
Now, FULL disclosure here.
I tried on a lot of things that made me look ridiculous. 😉
The Free People pieces are often a bit “boho chic”, and I am probably the opposite of “boho chic”, so there are some pieces that definitely don’t work on me (some are too long, others are too short, others are too lacy or see through, and some
of the arms are way too flowy). As I sit here writing this post, I’m sad that I didn’t take pics of me in those items, because we all could have had a good laugh.
#bohochiciamnot
However, I did find a handful of things that I absolutely LOVED! And that’s what I’m going to share with y’all today!
First off, this beach cocoon cowl neck pullover (I’m wearing the charcoal).
I love everything about this pullover.
IT. IS. AWESOME.
It’s loose and flowy (without being HUGE or tent-like), and I love the “heathered” look. The big cowl neck makes it interesting and unique, but it’s not overwhelming at all. I have no doubt that it’s going to be an item that I reach for again and again all fall and winter long.
It’s just so cozy (but still really cute)!
For size reference, I’m wearing an x-small/small.
It comes in this grey color that I’m wearing, a lavendar (that looks like a really light grey online), and a denim (that seems to be a dark blue).
And you can see here that the back is very cute as well!
This is a great top!

In fact, you might remember this same tunic from last year!
Do you remember Candace? She’s the mama that inspired the Special Mama giveaways, and in 2014 we took the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale BY STORM.
Well, she got this tunic while we were shopping!
Apparently, this pullover was so popular that they brought it back this year (after it sold out last year). You should go HERE and read some of the reviews. Everybody loves it!
I mean, how cute is Candace!
I texted Candace on Monday to let her know that she was going to be on the blog today, and I wanted to know if she still loved her top!
She said she does LOVE it and it is so cute and comfy!
She even sent me this pic of her in it with leggings! DARLING! And my goodness I love those boys of hers.
Click HERE for the tunic. And she’s wearing her MUST HAVE leggings (of course!) and her Penny boots (ON SALE!) 🙂
Candace sized up to the medium/large so she could wear it with leggings.
Also, I haven’t washed mine yet (and I’ll probably dry clean it, because I dry clean a lot of my clothes), but Candace says she wishes she would have not dried hers all the way. Thanks for the tip Candace!
This next item took me by surprise. I thought it was going to be too boho for me, but I loved it!
Maybe I am a little boho. 😉
SWING DRESS (and it comes in 2 other color options)!
This was such a cool look with leggings (I think it looks more like a tunic top than a dress), and I thought the color was very pretty!
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the dress.
swing dress/ MUST HAVE leggings in graphite / similar cognac boot / similar cross body bag options below / circle hoop earrings
And I find myself reaching for my cognac cross body a lot. Sadly, mine is sold out.
So, here are some options for you!
This next top surprised me as well.
It’s the tree swing high low top.
I saw this top on Jen Hatmaker on facebook one day, and I wanted to try it for myself!
(FYI, Jen has also been spotted wearing the ombre blardigan on several different occasions on her ig. I wonder if she knows it’s a “blardigan”?!?)
But I digress. Back to this top.
I’m wearing it here straight out of the package it shipped in (I hadn’t tossed it in the dryer or anything to pull the wrinkles out).
I wanted to love this top, because I totally LOVE the idea of it, but I think maybe I’m not tall enough for it (I’m almost 5’4″). Or I might have too much boob for it (sorry dad).
For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
top / AG skinny ankle jeans / similar cognac boot / circle hoop earrings
And then I tried on this pretty little thing while at the mall.
Again, I think I have a little too much boob for it.
I’ve seen it on other bloggers (taller, thinner bloggers) and they don’t wear a cami under it and it’s GORGEOUS! It’s a really deep v, but it looks so pretty without anything underneath it if you can pull that look off. You can even dress it up with skinny jeans and heels.
Also, here I have it paired with boyfriend jeans (because that’s just what I had on)….but I think skinny jeans would look much better with it with some tall boots or booties for a more casual look than heels! When wearing a flowy top like this, I always try to wear fitted jeans
so not everything is baggy.
I didn’t love the top on me, but I’ve definitely loved it on others. Maybe it would be great on you?
I’m wearing an x-small here, but I needed a small (it was too tight in the chest).
v neck tunic / similar jeans / circle hoop earrings / shoreline converse
Again, please pay no attention to how this top is styled in the pic below. Imagine it with skinny jeans and tall boots or booties!

Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!

Many of you purchased them when I talked about them last week, all of you seem to love them, and 1 of you even said they are the best jeans they’ve ever owned!
See y’all back here on Friday!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

Costco has Hunter boots on their website falls $79 and shorts $76 … limited colors but good ones. Of course I ordered another pair.
Erika Slaughter says
I definitely think you can pull those off, friend! That grey/white sweater-that back is stunning! I don't think I've ever used that work in reference to the BACK of a sweater but it is!!
Slightly Askew Designs says
Free People is my JAM! LOVE all of your picks (which is to be expected as I have most of them. hahaha)
Melanie Smith says
I thought of you, Andrea, as soon as I started scrolling through the pics. These pieces are so YOU!
Lori Smith says
This is the third year of that cowl neck, which makes me happy since I have two of them ! I love it and have worn them a million times. Cute and so comfy! I wash mine and usually hang to dry and then toss in dryer for 15 minutes to soften up and they have held up great!
Melanie Smith says
I love the look of the Free People pieces, but they, unfortunately, don't come in my size. 🙁 Boo!
Dena Wofford says
I have the pullover and I agree you can not dry it because it will shrink! I sent mine back and Nordstrom is sending me a new one!!
I Like Ike says
You in the cowl neck, distressed skinnies and red Hunter boots– FAVORITE outfit ever! Love love love it!
Buddy's Mom says
I am a Free People freak!! Keep trying their stuff; it is amazing. I have two tops from them that I have worn to absolute shreds. I admit some things are a bit Stevie Nicks-twirling-in-an-80's-video, but they're so pretty and unique.
Melanie Lien says
What size are you wearing in the Free People Tee? I'm usually a medium, but it looks like a larger fit.
Sheaffer says
Hi Melanie! I'm wearing the x-small/small!
Kendra Petrellese says
Wearing the cowl neck pullover as we speak-what a coinikinkydink! Love love love it, super comfy and perfect for fall! And I must say, lady, you make everything look good!
Mary Deckert says
I love the cowl pullover but I hate that it only comes in two sizes. I'm a small/med and I hesitant to get the xs/s in case it's too small (I want it to hang right and be long enough) but the m/lg seems like it would be too big. Any advice? It look so cute on you!
Sheaffer says
Candace got the med/large, and it doesn't swallow her! I think you'd be fine! Hope this helps Mary!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Jennifer Barnhouse says
Hi Sheaffer! I love following your blog. We have similar taste in clothes. Do you own a denim mini skirt? I have the one from Loft and need some outfit ideas. Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi Jennifer! I don't! Sorry I'm not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
LMC says
Wearing the ombré blardigan right now–so cozy and warm and easy! And cute with leggings!
Narci says
The sweater is so pretty!! Love it!!
Alys says
I love that grey sweater, especially the back of it! Also, do you know of any good brands that sell wide calf boots?! I've tried on a couple pairs of boots and they seem just a tad bit to snug in the calf, I would prefer them to be a little wider. I've tried sizing up but then they are to big on my feet.
Sheaffer says
Hi Alys! Both Sam Edelman and Frye have wide calf versions! I know that people have luck with both of those brands! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
{Hi Sugarplum!} says
That sweatshirt top is darling!!! And I think you're well on your way to boho chic! Thanks for the scoop on this fun brand!
Katrina says
That cowl neck pullover with those Hunter boots looks like the most cozy outfit! Love everything about it!
