I’m so happy about today’s post, y’all!
I love sharing spaces in our home with you, and today I’m sharing my favorite room in the house: THE FAMILY ROOM
I’ve shared the family room before, but I’ve got new touches all over the room that I think you will love. Pieces that I picked up that were very affordable that really perked the space up!
I think it will surprise you to learn that many of the accessories in the room are items I scored from Walmart!
You’ll see that my decorating preference is to mix old treasures with new items. I don’t like for everything in a room to be brand spanking new, and those that know me know that one of my favorite things is to go digging in an antique store for a vintage piece, even if it’s just a small accessory! I definitely like for some of the items in a room to have a history and feel well-loved.
My hope is that my home will look like it was put together over time, and not just shopped for from a catalog. But in addition to some vintage items, the room of course has some new items as well! And listen, I don’t care where the items come from. It makes things so interesting and fun when all you care about when furnishing a room is that you love the item! And it brings me so much joy when somebody asks me where something is from, and I’m able to shout out “OMG! It was $12 And you will NEVER BELIEVE where I got it!!!!” It’s one of my toxic traits. If I get a great deal on something, I HAVE to tell the person how much it was. I’m all about the shock and awe. Chris is like, “You know you don’t have to always tell people how much everything costs.” And I’m like “Actually, I do.” Haha!
Let’s start with the drive up and my beautiful new wreath!
It adds just the right touch to the door. I think it’s so welcoming, and it definitely signals the change of the season.
LOOK! HOW! GORGEOUS!
The autumnal colors are so pretty, and the wreath combines fall leaves with a festive mix of pumpkins, lotus pods, twigs, berries, feathers, and orange slices. It’s seriously stunning, and right now it is ON SALE!
I’ve been burned a time or two in the past by wreaths that I’ve purchased online that end up looking NOTHING like they did online when they arrive, but this wreath was a pleasant surprise.
The materials are all faux, but I’m thinking the faux materials are going to add to the longevity of the wreath.
Upon entering our home, you are greeted by a formal dining room and entryway which opens into the family room.
This room is where we spend the great majority of our time as a family. It’s comfy, it’s cozy, and we love it.
This picture was taken at the beginning of this year when I first added some Walmart accessories to the space, but now there are even more!
Now we’re going to take a closer look at all of the lovely little touches that really helped to bring the room together.
You’re looking at the entertainment center hat wet bought when we first bought the house, but we still love it. I grabbed the chairs at an auction right after we were first married, but I like to change the pillows in them every so often. Here’s the room styled this spring with the yellow and cream embroidered pillows. I thought these pillows did a great job brightening up the space for spring.
embroidered pillows with tassels
With fall upon us, I decided to change things up with these tassel pillows. They are officially called “coral”, but I think of them as more of a “warm spice” or “light rust”. They feel very fall to me. They are quite soft, very easy to cuddle up with if you styled them on a sofa, and they also come in grey and navy. They are a total steal at just under $16 a piece.
This pillow is just the way I like it! Nice and squishy!
One of my favorite pieces in the room is this pouf.
This pillow and this pouf are both from Walmart! Can you even believe it?
And although my little side table is over 10 years old, I found this plant stand that I also think would look great in this room. It’s smaller than the table for sure, so keep that in mind, but it is a nice option.
I will say, when my pouf arrived, it was darker than I thought it was going to be, but it totally worked! Also, my pouf has “leather” piping on the corners. The online pouf didn’t show this, but I actually prefer it with the piping!

I added several fall touches to the coffee table.
wooden dough bowl / rattan pumpkins / farm apple and pumpkin candle / tassel pillow (in background)
The wooden dough bowl adds a beautiful natural element to the room. It’s made of real wood and is a very pretty piece. I love the lines of it.

And look at the texture on the pumpkins! They are around only $3 a piece, and I have them a couple of different places in the room.

Do you see the sofa table behind the sofa? Let’s take a closer look at how it’s styled then vs. now.
If you remember, this sofa table used to have the red box in the center (from an antique store), and then the table was filled with picture frames with family pics. I loved the view from this side with the family pics, but the view from the other side was just the ugly backs of picture frames. Earlier this year I cleaned up the styling. I actually style and restyle this table all the time. Here is what it looked like up until a couple of weeks ago.
candle / brass tray / blue and cream throw / basket
I recently added a wooden picture frame (with one of my favorite pictures of Carter) and a fall scented candle. This one is Farm Apple and Pumpkin and smells amazing. I actually bought this exact scent in several different containers for around my home.
My vase came from a local boutique, and I filled it with faux olive branches myself. But if you click HERE, Walmart has an awesome option for you of a similar vase already filled with eucalyptus leaves. It doesn’t look to be as large as mine, but it’s only $12! It’s a great way to get the look for less.

The brass tray is a find from earlier this year. It has a really pretty patina, and it’s the perfect size to house a little vignette.

I love baskets that are filled with blankets. It makes the room look cozy, and it’s great that the blankets are easily accessible for when you want to cuddle up on the couch.
This blue and cream throw is on sale now for just under $21, and this basket is just under $24 and the perfect place to throw a bunch of blankets. I love that the light-colored wicker contrasts with the dark wood of the sofa table. I used to have a dark basket here, but this lighter one is so much better. I also love the handles and the shape of this particular basket.
I fell in love with the rich colors in this throw pillow and knew it would be perfect on our couch.
And ladies, this blanket is a must have! We’ve owned it for a while now, and we ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It is super similar to the very expensive blanket that everybody knows and loves, but this one is a mere fraction of the price. Thank heavens, because I know not everybody wants to pay $150 for a blanket, I don’t care how cozy it is! 🙂
For just $25, you too can own this blanket that feels both luxurious and expensive. It is sooooooooooo soft and incredibly cozy and warm. I love this grey animal print, but it also comes in a neutral animal print, an Aztec print, a stripe, and a soft blue solid.
Get one for your own home for sure, but also know that these $25 blankets make excellent gifts. Get one for everybody on your list!
I love how all of my Walmart fall home finds really brought this space together!
In addition to the glow up the family room received, I also added just a handful of items to the kitchen.
New and fresh kitchen towels always make me happy. #itsthelittlethings
Do you see that adorable little lamp? I grabbed it while in store, and I’m afraid you’re going to have to do the same because I’m unable to find it online.
The base and the shade are sold separately, but you can get the entire lamp for just under $20! I think it’s worth a trip to Walmart for sure. The size is really perfect for under kitchen cabinets, and I’m all about the soft glow a lamp gives off in any room.
This 13-piece rose gold utensil set is awesome. And I placed the entire set (including the rose gold container) into this turned wood vase I grabbed at an antique store in downtown McKinney. This is the perfect example of mixing old with new. The fit was perfect! I could hardly believe it.
The set includes the following: 1 Ladle, 1 Skimmer, 1 Slotted Turner, 1 Pasta Server, 1 Cooking Spoon,1 Potato Masher, 1 Egg Whisk,1 Slotted Spoon, 1 Cooking Tong, 1 Flat Turner, 1 Flexible Spatula, 1 Basting Brush, and 1 Utensils holder. The utensils are made of high-quality stainless steel, and the rose gold finish is awesome!
I love having all of these utensils at arm’s length. It’s just so functional to have them right there on the counter instead of all thrown in a drawer.

And would you look at this beautiful loaf pan!!!
It’s a gorgeous bronze color, it’s crafted from heavy and sturdy materials, and you can tell it’s a quality piece.
When I saw it, I knew immediately I wanted to make pumpkin bread in it. (Because while I’m not a pumpkin pie girl, I am definitely a pumpkin bread girl.)
The first time using it over the weekend, I just used this spiced cake box mix. I wasn’t sure that getting the cake out of this pan was going to be easy, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of time on a homemade recipe. I thought a box cake was the perfect way to try it out.
I’m happy to report that I was extremely pleased with the final result!
Just look at this beautiful spice cake!
All I did was mix the cake just as the package directed. I sprayed the entire pan with Pam, and then I poured the batter in. That’s it.
Harvest Bounty loaf pan / kitchen towel set
And seriously. Look how beautiful. It popped right out without any issues!
I let it cool down for about an hour and then used a knife to make sure the edges had pulled away from the pan, which they had. I turned the pan over, and it basically fell out. Because of that, clean up was a breeze! It only required a quick rinse and dry. Nothing was stuck to the pan!
I was SO PROUD!
I didn’t have any powdered sugar in the pantry, but a light dusting would have been very pretty on top.
I have to say, the box mix was surprisingly tasty! Carter gobbled this entire loaf up in a 2 day time period.
And now that I trust the pan, I will be brave enough to make something homemade in it next time. I’m thinking a true pumpkin loaf with a cream cheese swirl.
I will definitely be bringing some pumpkin loaves to Thanksgiving with my dad’s family. They will be delicious, and I know the presentation will get some oohs and ahhhs! 🙂

Sheaffer, the pouf is so pretty. Is it actually sturdy enough to sit on if needed for extra seating or only for decoration or to use as an ottoman?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Terry! I would say it’s semi-sturdy. Children or smaller adults could sit on it for sure, but it is definitely low to the ground and does have some give to it. Hope this helps! xoxo

Love all of the fall decor! Where did you get your sofa?
Sheaffer says
Our sofa is from Weir’s, and we absolutely love it. I believe it’s still available, although I’m not totally sure. I think it was called Jonathan something. Hope this helps! xoxo
