Denim Shorts Review!

Today we’ve got some very important business to attend to.

WE’RE TALKING DENIM SHORTS, LADIES.

They are a wardrobe staple for me during the summer months, and even though I typically have 1 or 2 favorite pair, I like to have several options to rotate through all summer long. #agirlhastohaveoptions

Well, GREAT NEWS! I’ve got 13 different denim short options for you today!

Today we’ve got distressed, clean, frayed hem, straight hem, raw hem, light wash, medium wash, stretchy, structured, shorty short, longer, etc.

What I’m saying is, I got you covered!

I’m typically a size 4 (27) in jeans, but I sometimes find myself sizing up in shorts for a bit more length and room. I’ll notate which size I went with for each pair of shorts.

KUT FROM THE KLOTH CLEAN SHORTS

These NEW TO ME denim shorts have a 4 1/2″ inseam, so they are still short, but not too short. And they aren’t too long either if the 6″ ones I’m highlighting later feel a little bit too mature for you. 😉 These don’t have any distressing at all, and they have a finished hem instead of a frayed hem. So these are the “cleanest” of the bunch I’m reviewing for sure. I’m wearing my regular size 4, but they are very stretchy and forgiving. If you are between sizes, I would definitely recommend sizing down. Depending on how you like the fit, you might want to size down even if you’re not between sizes.

AGOLDE DENIM SHORTS

Was it 2 or 3 years ago that the Agolde denim shorts first came on the scene? EVERYBODY was wearing them. I tried them, but I didn’t love them then. I don’t remember exactly why, I just didn’t love the way they fit my body. Well, I decided to give this year’s AGolde denim shorts a whirl and I’m a big ol’ fan. They are a button fly, which I don’t normally love, but I like these shorts so much that I don’t mind. They aren’t tight at all, and they have a perfectly relaxed fit. The 4 1’2″ inseam makes them a great length on my frame. For size reference, I did size up to a 28 and I’m glad I did.

SANCTUARY DENIM SHORTS

I think of these are more of a chambray than a denim. I would describe them as a little bit lighter weight than a denim, but a bit heavier than a typical chambray. They do have some stretch to them and there’s elastic across the back which makes them quite comfortable. The site says they are true to size, but I sized up to a 28 and I’m glad I did.

KUT FROM THE KLOTH FRAYED HEM WITH MINIMAL DISTRESSING

THESE DENIM SHORTS ARE SO GOOD. They have a 6″ inseam, so they provide a good amount of length, but I don’t feel matronly in them at all! I just feel covered, but cute. Basically, I still feel like a cool and hip mom, while managing to stay totally age appropriate. They are slim cut which makes them flattering, but I love the roominess of the leg opening. I’m wearing my regular size 4, but I would suggest sizing down if between sizes because they are definitely roomy.

KUT FROM THE KLOTH HAILEY SHORTS

These are similar to the Kut shorts directly above with their fit, but I personally prefer the ones above over these. I just don’t love how dark the wash is specifically on the fly. They are comfy and stretchy without super tight legs, but again, I would choose the pair above instead of these. The ones above just fit my body better.For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4.

AMERICAN EAGLE SHORTS

I absolutely LOVE these denim shorts. I got them 2 summers ago, and they’re still going strong.

They are cute, soft, AND OH SO COMFY. They have a functional zipper and button….BUT GET THIS…..there’s elastic across the back of the waistband. Yep, they’re basically like toddler shorts. And they’re awesome. If you fully tuck in shirts, then these shorts aren’t going to be for you because the elastic waistband isn’t cute. But since I only 1/2 tuck shirts, nobody will ever see the waistband. I’ll just benefit from the comfort!

I think this is probably obvious when looking at them, but these babies are pretty dang short. I’m now mostly wearing these shorts just around home, at the ranch, and maybe on an occasional grocery run. There are just certain occasions I won’t wear shorts this short. At my age, the thought of being “age appropriate” is always at the forefront of my thought process when gettings dressed.

• 88% Cotton, 12% Polyester

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. These are the “rocky blue”, but they come in new washes and colors including different washes of denim and an olive pair and a neutral pair.

And here they are in “medium indigo wash”… but be careful when you’re choosing the color because there’s a medium indigo wash on the top row of color choices and then just 1 on the second row. These are the pair from the 2nd row.

AMERICAN EAGLE 6″ SHORTS

These are from American Eagle too, but they are a whole 3″ longer than the shorts directly ablve. A dark wash with a medium level of distressing, these are super casual with some length. They’re described on the site as “super high rise”, but I didn’t find them to be aggressively high or restrictive. I’m wearing my regular size 27.

SPANX DENIM SHORTS

If you’re a lover of the SPANX brand, I can pretty much guarantee that you are going to want these shorts. They definitely have the SPANX compression technology that everybody loves, and these provide some good length with a 5″ inseam, without feeling too matronly. I grabbed a medium in these (because I wear a medium in their leather leggings), and I’m super glad I did. Smalls would have been wayyyyy too tight on me.
