Feel that chill in the air, ladies? JK. Me either. But I did hear a rumor that we are supposed to get a bit of a cool front later this week, so I’m going to just go ahead and believe it’s going to happen. Maybe I’ll make a vision board. Again, JK.
Well, pay no attention to the 90 degree highs, because TODAY WE’RE TALKING SWEATERS! I’m down right giddy about the thought of a chill in the air, and I think we should all be prepared when fall finally decides to arrive. Rest assured that I’ll be highlighting sweaters all season long, but today I’ve got two great basics that will serve you well for years and years to come.
EVERYBODY needs a cream color sweater, and this one is gorgeous.
Most often cream colored sweaters can easily be dressed up or down, and this one is no exception. I love it here worn casually with denim, but this sweater would look just as great dressed up with a nice pair of black slacks and heels for the office.
The neck is an oversized funnel, and both the neck and the cuffs are ribbed for added interest. I love that the neck has some drama, but it’s not restrictive. It’s a light to medium weight, and it’s very soft, super cozy, and warm. The overall fit is perfectly relaxed. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
And the jeans? Well, I continue to be obsessed with the jeans, and I’m not the only one. I’m getting so much great feedback from y’all. Here’s just 1 message I received….
Hi, Sheaffer! I’m 3 months postpartum, I’ve never tried Wit and Wisdom jeans before, but I’m now a true believer. I feel amazing in these jeans. I love how they hold me in and smooth everything out, but they are still so comfortable. And you are right, they are so flattering. And the hem on this pair is so fun! I’ve been reading your blog for 5 years or so, so I’m not sure why it took me this long to try this brand, but you are absolutely right! Thanks for another great recommendation! – Emily
Thanks for the feedback Emily! I TOTALLY agree and I’m thrilled you love these jeans!
These jagged hem slim jeans are from Wit and Wisdom, which means they boast our beloved Ab-Solution technology. They are super stretchy, they suck you in in all the right places, and they are crazy flattering. I’m wearing my regular size 4, but most people size down in Wit and Wisdom jeans because of the stretch.
The super fun jagged hem is totally on trend.
And the mules!!!! Let’s give a slow clap for these mules. If they still have your size left, grab them! I think they are DARLING, they are quite comfy, and I absolutely love the gold chain accent. I would suggest sizing up a 1/2.
Here’s the same sweater, just styled a bit more casually. I switched out the designer cross body for the cognac tote, and I traded the mules for sneakers.

These chunky huggie earrings are my new favorites. Y’all know I love a huggie (they are so comfortable), but these are my first pair of chunky ones. All of my other huggies are quite a bit more delicate, and these make more of a statement. They are going to be awesome for fall.
I’ve been highlighting this tote for years and years now, but it continues to make it into posts because it’s just so simple and goes with so many different outfits.
Y’all already know I love to throw a bandana on the tote to add color and style.
And I love how you can easily switch them out. There are so many bandanas to choose from, and for $12 they add a whole lot of color and style for just a little bit of money.
These leather sneakers are perfectly neutral, classic, and a tiny bit sporty. I had other leather DV sneakers last year (they had neon yellow and neon pink on them with leopard accents), and I wore the heck out of them. I LOVE THEM, but I thought it would be nice to have a more neutral option. Last year I bought my regular size, but I ended up wishing I’d sized down a 1/2. Since they are leather, they stretched out a bit, so I sized down a 1/2 in these. If you aren’t often between sizes, it’s probably not necessary.
I love the entire look.
And you can of course throw a military jacket on top for added warmth and style. I think this camo military jacket is a wardrobe must. I did an entire post showing you three ways to style it HERE, and I’m still pulling it out for new outfits. It comes in plus size too and it’s ON SALE!!!
It’s a cotton stretch twill, so it’s very comfy to wear and not restrictive or stiff at all. It has an internal draw cord waist, so you can cinch it in or out depending on your preference. If you’ve got a tiny waist, cinch it in and really define it! If you need a little more room around the middle, let it out and it still looks great! For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
So we’ve already established that everybody needs a cream sweater.
But you know what else everybody needs? A black sweater that they love.
I’m so sad to report that mine is currently no longer available in black (fingers crossed for a restock!), but it is a really great sweater and it comes in TONS of colors. I also own it in the hot pink from last year. I wear a small, and it’s still a relaxed fit, so I would suggest sizing down.
The total look is simple, and I love it. You could wear this so many places and feel totally put together with very little effort.
Here’s the same outfit, dressed up just a tiny bit. I switched out the bag and the shoes again.
A black sweater with great denim and leopard? This is an outfit formula that everybody should try.
That’s all for today, Ladies! Do you already have a cream sweater and a black sweater in your closet? If you do, make sure you pull them out and have fun styling them! If not, consider grabbing one (or both) today. A huge THANK YOU to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.
