Style It Again, Sheaffer

Today’s post is one of my favorite types of posts to do.  It’s part of a series I call Style It Again, Sheaffer where I take an item that I love, and I style it several different ways.  Today we are styling a camo utility jacket 3 different ways! I’ve owned a camo utility jacket (a couple in fact) for several years, and I wear them ALL. THE. TIME. I think of it as a neutral with sass, and I have so much fun styling it.

Every year for the past several years I’ve featured a camo jacket for y’all.  I think they are such a great addition to just about anybody’s closet, so I look for a new one each year that’s in stock and available.  I want everybody to be able to grab one if you so desire.

Many of you have purchased camo jackets in the past.

I will say, after every camo jacket post I’ve ever done, I tend to get an influx of e-mails asking for styling ideas for the jacket.  People love the jacket, they buy the jacket, they are excited about the jacket, and then they seem to get intimidated by the camo and just can’t figure out how to incorporate it into their outfits.

So…..today’s post is for two different types of people:  1)  those that don’t yet have a camo jacket, but need one  2)  those that already have a camo jacket, but need help on how to wear it.

OUTFIT #1:  CAMO JACKET with PINK and DARK DENIM

Pairing a camo jacket with denim is always a good idea.  Here I’ve paired it with a dark wash denim, and I think it looks great!

I will say that from e-mails I’ve received over the years, most people tend to throw their camo jacket over a plain white tee and call it a day. It’s a great look and one I wear a lot, but there are so many more options!

You’ll see here that the camo looks great paired with this pretty rose color (officially called terra cotta).

And I really jazzed things up by throwing on a leopard belt too.  I mean, fashion is supposed to be fun, so I thought I would go for it!

The balloon sleeve sweater is a cotton blend with drop shoulders and a beautiful balloon sleeve.  It’s lightweight, very soft, and has a bit of stretch in it which makes it very comfy. It’s casual enough to wear with jeans and sneakers, but it could very easily be dressed up for the office as well.  I’m wearing a medium and there’s some extra room, so I would say it’s true to size or maybe even runs a bit big (even though the description says it runs small).  I love the fit, I love the sleeves, and I love this color.  It comes in 8 colors total, so there’s something for everybody!

This tote is another item I’ve owned for years and years.  It’s super inexpensive, it’s held up great, and I tend to stuff it with all sorts of things including a laptop and a denim jacket.  This bag would be great for teachers to carry papers back and forth between school and home.  If you’ve been reading for a bit, you know I love to add style to this tote by tying a bandana around one of the straps.  You can find a great selection HERE.

If you are looking for a classic pair of dark wash jeans with no distressing, LOOK NO FURTHER.  I think I’ve had these jeans for 2 years now.  They still look great, and they keep stocking them because they are so dang popular.  I like distressing as much as the next gal, but I always need “clean” pair or two in my closet as well.  These are “clean” and the dark wash makes them easy to dress up if you’d like.  The raw hem is subtle. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4 (not petite).

Since these are skinny, they would also be great with tall boots.

OUTFIT #2:  CAMO JACKET with GREY JEANS and SNEAKERS

I’m playing it a little more safe here by pairing a plain black tee with the jacket.  I feel like most would think to do this.

But instead of regular denim, I reached for my grey denim!  More on the denim in a minute.

This camo utility jacket is the star of our post today!  And it comes in plus size too!

It’s a cotton stretch twill, so it’s very comfy to wear and not restrictive or stiff at all.   It has an internal draw cord waist, so you can cinch it in or out depending on your preference.  If you’ve got a tiny waist, cinch it in and really define it!  If you need a little more room around the middle, let it out and it still looks great!  For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

UPDATE:  I just realized that the jacket is now 40% OFF!  WOW!

I love having grey jeans in my closet for fall and winter.  I think they look great styled with lots of different colors (black, white, red, olive, blush, and camel just to name a few), and it’s just nice to have denim options.

As you can see on the site, they are much shorter on the model, but I definitely prefer them the length they are on me.  I wouldn’t mind them a tiny bit shorter on me, but I definitely don’t like them as short as they are on the site.  These do come in petites, but I think the petites would be way too short on me in this particular pair of jeans.

(Again, I’m 5’4″ with long legs for my height.  I’ve had readers 5’7″ that say they look great on them too.  I think the model must be reallllllllly tall.)

Okay, y’all.  These leather sneakers are really good. They are perfectly neutral, classic, and a tiny bit sporty.  I had other leather DV sneakers last year (they had neon yellow and neon pink on them with leopard accnets), and I wore the heck out of them.  I LOVE THEM, but I thought it would be nice to have a more neutral option.  Last year I bought my regular size, but I ended up wishing I’d sized down a 1/2. Since they are leather, they stretched out a bit, so I sized down a 1/2 in these.  If you aren’t often between sizes, it’s probably not necessary.

This is a look you’ll see me in again and again.  Switch out the black tee for any number of colors including white, blush, pink, rust, the possibilities are endless.

I would normally pair a denim jacket with a dress like this, but I thought the camo jacket with it was a little bit different and a whole lot of fun.

Here’s the dress without the jacket.  Totally basic, super simple, and darling.

The material is soooooooooooooo soft, but it’s not regular t-shirt material, it’s better.  The site describes the dress as a “classic pocket T-shirt dress made in a slinky cotton fabric with a suede feel—oh-so touchable and wearable.”  You know, I’d have to agree.

It is touchable and wearable.  Haha!  I’ll be wearing this on repeat for sure.

It’s got a very relaxed fit and doesn’t hug the body at all, which I very much appreciate.  Still, I don’t find it to be boxy either.  For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

This dress works on it’s own (as seen above), it’s great paired with a military jacket, but it would look fantastic with both a denim jacket or a long cozy cardigan too.

Remember if you’ve got a tiny waist, make sure you cinch in that internal draw cord to help you define it and show it off.
