The Case for Camo!

I know that camo is a polarizing fashion subject.
Some of you out there embrace it, and I stand with y’all!!!
Others shake your head and don’t understand why in the world you
would choose to wear it if you weren’t hunting. 🙂

I am firmly on the EMBRACE CAMO side of the field.
And for those of you that think I’m crazy, let me present to you my new CAMO board on Pinterest.  Looks at these DARLING looks all created with camo.

Camo is EVERYWHERE.
As you will see, some designers are VERY PROUD of their camo (as evidenced by their price tags), but I’ve found several great options currently in stores that won’t totally break the bank.

First up, let’s start with a camo field jacket.
A couple of the looks on my Pinterest board include a camo jacket if you need to see how it translates to real world wear.

And here’s the steal jacket on me!
I didn’t get this one because I still have mine from last year, but if I didn’t already have one, this would have come home with me.  I actually like this one better than mine.  The colors are more muted, and the material is quite a bit softer.
For size reference, I’m wearing an x-small in the camo jacket, so I sized down.
If you are planning on piling lots of layers under it, I would just stick with your regular size.
I probably couldn’t have zipped the jacket up (after sizing down), but I prefer to go with the smaller size to achieve the fitted look.

And it’s not just camo jackets, camo pants are hot right now too!
And I’m telling you, they totally up your cool factor.
I’ve had camo pants for years now.  My first pair was from GAP about 3 years ago, but they sold out before I ever even had the chance to put them on the blog.
And then last year I found a pair at LOFT that I loved, but they sold out very quickly as well.  Since then, I haven’t found any that I like, even though I always have my eyes peeled because I’ve received several e-mails for camo pant recommendations!
I’m VERY particular about my camo pants.
It’s not that I hadn’t seen any, I just hadn’t seen any that I liked.
WELL, GREAT NEWS!
I found some last week that I love!
I didn’t get them (since I already have 2 other pairs…that’s what they call restraint ladies) :), but if you’ve been on the hunt for some, I think you’ll love these!  And they are only $54!!!

And just think how cute this same outfit would be with  this cute pair of booties or maybe these.
I also think it would be cute with a denim jacket thrown on top!

They didn’t have a 5 for me to try on, so I can’t comment on the difference in the sizes.
When dealing with junior’s sizing….sometimes I’m a 5, and sometimes I’m a 7.

If you remember my post from a couple of weeks ago, I gave some current denim jacket options.
They are from the same maker of my beloved MUST HAVE jacket (see in the pic above) and they too are fitted and contain some stretch.  They aren’t boxy, and they ARE flattering!  
And they are READY FOR FALL.
If you don’t have a denim jacket that you love, GET ONE.  Find one that you love, and get it.  You will be amazed at how often you wear it.

    I do like camo in small doses. It's just hard for me to fully commit. I live in MS and I don't want people to get the wrong camo vibe from me if you know what I mean ha.

    So.. I like camo but my husband is in the Army and wears it everyday for his job so it feels strange for me to wear it. Also, when I go on post I feel like I'm trying to fit in with everyone in their uniforms. LOL

    I am SO glad I found those Gap camos 3 years ago…I stalked the website and the only size left after a few weeks of continued monitoring was my 4L! HALLELUJAH! Camo and stripes are my favorite!!

    Hmmm…I like camo on you and others, but think I am past the age of being able to pull it off without looking like I am trying too hard to "fit in" with a younger crowd. (I'm 57)

      Hi Kim, I will be 56 in October and I love to rock my camo's. As Sheaffer says, it's how you style them. I wear mine with a black tee shirt or gray tunic top and booties. I think it helps us appear more youthful when we keep up with fashion trends but 'interpret' them appropriately, if that makes sense. Good luck.

      Thanks for the encouragement to give it a try. Maybe I will get a more muted pair of pants and like you suggested, wear it with a gray or black t-shirt. Cindy, my daughters also keep me current and we often share clothes. The three of us have several of Sheaffer's "must haves".

    I have been surrounded by hunters all my life and can't separate the connection of camo and hunting, lol. So, I'm on the side of the fence that says, go for it if you like, buts it's not for me! ? I'll stick with my leopard. LOVE all things leopard! ❤️

    I'm from Mississippi so for me camo was always for the hunter's. I use to think it was kind of raw to style camo but I'm board now thanks to your pins and blog! Do you curl your hair everyday or it just great on it's own?

    I LOVE Love Love camo and have 2 pairs of pants from LOFT in it. One that you recommended and another I found on Ebay cause I went camo CRAZY! I too feel very sasssssssy in them,lol.

    so don't let that stop you from trying them.

    HECK YES!!!! I bought the LOFT camo pants your recommended last year and it takes restraint not to wear them every single day. I feel like they go with EVERYTHING. I totally think it ups my sassy/cool factor when I wear them. Keep up the good work!!!!

    At first I liked the camo look but was leery that I might look too "mutton-dressed-as-lamb". I went ahead and wore camo pants with a black tee shirt, booties and a denim jacket to work with the littles at church. A young mom commented "I would love to wear that exact outfit and it looks fabulous on you!" So of course it has been on repeat a few times – LOL.

    I bought the Kut from the Kloth camo pants you recommended a year or two ago and honestly they sat for a while. I didn't have the nerve to wear them! My family was leary of me wearing them too. But once I got the courage to wear them, I reach for them all the time. It helps that they are super comfy and now I would wear them a few times a week if they weren't so memorable. Also, my teenage daughter has 2 pairs as well (she also loves your blog) but she got hers after me!

    I never would have considered camo until I saw you rocking it. I now own a pair of camo Toms which I absolutely love. My husband, the hunter thinks I'm cooler now that I wear camo. That's enough reason for me to wear it 🙂

    Love me some camo! I lost some weight last year so my fav came pants were too big…I have yet to find another pair that I love. Tried the Hudson pair from Nords but didn't love…and for the price of those then I HAD to love to keep. Gap HAS to come out with another pair this year…don't you think? I believe they had some last year.

    I will do camo the day I get a gun rack in my truck (I don't have a truck) – which is to say, no can do. I am also southern and there are just to many negative associations. But – it looks great on you!

    I always thought camo was awful and reserved for hunting. Why would I want to wonder the streets of my very urban city looking like I just took down the forest? But I took a chance and heeded your advice back in the spring and got the Loft camo skinny pants and a Nordstrom camo jacket. I haven't gotten to use the jacket yet (Houston gets too hot too quick and holds onto summer for what feels like forever), but the pants have been worn with chambray and a plain white tee. You were right! You were also the person that turned me onto leopard (I owned not one single leopard item until I started following your blog and now I own at least a dozen items). Thanks for the inspiration!!

    Schaefer, a million thanks for the Sam Edelman Felicia flat tip. My job has me running through airports a lot and these keep me comfy and stylish. I think dear Sam "gets" me since I also have a pair of Sam Edelman calf hair camo heels that never fail to get compliments. They make a work outfit way more interesting yet are surprisingly neutral.

    Just wanted to say that I bought the must have military jacket a couple weeks ago and wore it for the first time yesterday, to a football game. (I'm not the type to dec out in my favorite sports team gear) I was warm, fashionable and felt WAY more put together then I would have in a sports hoodie haha. I may have already planned my next outfit to pair with it.
    Thank you for all your suggestions, my closet has defiantly been enhanced with all these "must haves" and I am loving it!
