If you missed my recap from Monday night’s episode, click HERE. You need a solid foundation for all of the crazy before you read Tuesday night’s recap.
Before we get started, I would like to congratulate us all on making it this far.
It’s been a long hard season, y’all!
But don’t get too comfy yet, ladies.
BECAUSE TUESDAY NIGHT WAS A DOOZY.
More specifically, BARB WAS A DOOZY.
Actually, she was a full on whack-a-doodle. (Let’s just all agree that “whack-a-doodle” is code word for a not so nice word that I want to say, but I will refrain from saying.)
But she wasn’t just a whack-a-doodle. She was a mean spirited, controlling, and disrespectful whack-a-doodle. Which is the worst kind of whack-a-doodle.
But I’m telling you, all was not lost, because Tuesday night while watching I felt like I was attending a MASTER CLASS ON HOW TO NOT ACT WHEN I’M A MOTHER-IN-LAW.
I seriously filed some stuff away.
And I even texted my own mother-in-law to basically thank her for being lovely the entire 27 years I’ve known her. #shoutoutdiane
Poor Peter.
Poor Peter’s brother.
And while we’re at it, poor Peter’s dad.
And even though Barb was terrible on Monday night, she was in RARE FORM on Tuesday night. Even the first time the camera cut to her in the audience she looked sooooooooo pi$$ed. But at that time I thought she was maybe just mad about her hair and her blush.
Okay, that was mean. But for real. I have some feelings I need to work out for this woman, so just bare with me.
THE FINAL ROSE
So with Madi gone, Peter decided to “choose” Hannah Ann because he was “100% certain. And he’s going to choose her every day.” He even picked out a ring (A HUGE AND GORGEOUS RING) from Uncle Neil and called Hannah’s dad to ask for her hand in marriage. Dad said yes, and Peter actually looked really excited.
BUT I WASN’T BUYING IT.
I think it was like 18-24 hours ago that he was absolutely broken because Madi left.
Even Hannah Ann had doubts, as evidenced by this scene. She was all dressed, but she needed a moment.
Harrison showed up to the rose ceremony site and said “I just found out something about Hannah Ann (insert lonnnnnng dramatic pause)……. I’m not sure if she’s coming.”
OHHHHHHH. EMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Peter almost passed out.
Heck! I almost passed out!
But instead, he took to the bed. Good heavens, everybody was taking to the bed.
But don’t y’all worry, Harrison walked in a little bit later and was like PSYCH! She’s coming. (I really do have to wonder if that was just a production thing or if Hannah Ann was really considering not going.)
So, Peter headed back to the rose ceremony site.
And Hannah Ann did in fact show up.
Peter greeted her, took her hand, and immediately started crying. But not Barb tears, the man was crying real tears. And I kind of started to believe that maybe he did love Hannah Ann. He started his proposal speech through those tears, and it sounded genuine.
BUT THEN.
THEN HE SAID MADISON’S NAME.
I almost puked out of sheer awkward terror. It’s a thing.
For a split second I thought we were having a Ross and Rachel moment because he said, “Madison…….” AND I WAS LIKE NO HE DIH UNT. HER NAME IS HANNAH ANN!
But he was just starting a sentence. He said “Madison ……………………………………………………………………………………….. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..(the pause literally felt like it was 7 hours long) left 2 days ago.” And then he proceeded to tell Hannah Ann he loved her over and over again, and that he would choose her over and over again.
And I was like.
HUH.
I mean, YES. Madi did in fact leave.
But it seemed a little weird that he presented the whole Madison left 2 days ago thing as if she left because he wanted her to. Because that’s not how it happened, Bud.
I mean, they looked super happy (adorable, actually), but I was questioning it all FO SHO.
I was also questioning how in the world they were placed on the top of this rock. It looked pretty precarious. Perhaps a metaphor for their relationship.
*******************************************
PETER WENT BACK HOME TO TELL THE FAMILY
Peter went home to tell his family how his journey had ended. When he walked through the door, Barb went nuts again. Like Peter walked through the door and she went full on psychotic. She made weird sounds, her hands shook, and she went on and on about how she missed his smiles, she missed his hellos, blah blah blah…..
Just fyi, when my son comes home from college in 8 years, I’m going to try my very best to PLAY IT COOL. I’m gonna give him a side hug and be like, “Hey. How’s college treating you?” I mean, inside I’m going to be shaking and internally screaming that I missed his smiles and his hellos, BUT ON THE OUTSIDE I’m going to be cool as a cucumber. Because #DONTBEABARB.
She burst into “tears”, but again there was not any evidence of actual tears. Her eyes weren’t even damp.
The lady is CRAZY.
And a big ol’ faker.
Peter sat down and set out to reveal to his family who he had chosen. Barb grabbed her husbands and her son’s hands, and she looked like she was going to stroke out.
When he finally said he had chosen Hannah Ann, Barb LOST IT. I mean, she fake lost it, but she did in fact lose it. GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF, BARB. Your embarrassing yourself.
And then she started “wailing” again. Which for her, is really just making a lot of noise while shaking her bands back and forth. There were NO TEARS, but don’t you worry, she wiped away those imaginary tears like it was her job.
HANNAH ANN VISITS PETER IN LA
I guess she has some sort of brand ambassadorship with 5-7-9, because she walked in the place wearing a fuzzy crop top and some jeans that zipped up the back. That’s some signature 5-7-9 stuff right there.
They sat down on the couch and things were immediately awkward.
She was still wearing her ring, but something had obviously gone down between the two of them. They immediately mentioned how they hadn’t seen each other in a month, which was strange, because the couples generally meet up for a secret rendezvous or two.
Peter was hard core struggling and visibly torn up. He was crying REAL TEARS. He thanked her for being so strong and supportive, but all of the subtext said that he was still struggling with the fact that he still loved Madi.
He said “I’ve told you everything, and even when I didn’t deserve it, you stood by me.” He said he wanted so badly to give her everything….BUT he couldn’t do that.
I of course felt sorry for Hannah Ann.
But I also felt sorry for Peter. And it’s not like I’ve been a huge Peter fan all season long, but Barb did a real number on him. Also, I would like to talk a minute about Peter’s jeans here. Hannah was so upset that she got up from the couch and left the room, but when he went after her I had to wonder, were his jeans tight rolled? I mean, I know all of us that were kids in the 80s were masters of the tight roll, but I don’t think that’s a trend that should ever come back.
Hannah Ann was so sad, and she didn’t hold back. She said “You took my first engagement away from me, because I trusted you. Why didn’t you just let me go? Why did you take my first engagement away from me?”
We get it Hannah Ann.
It’s terrible, and Peter definitely should have just let you go and never proposed.
But here’s the deal.
He seems as if he’s genuinely sorry, and what’s done is done. Even though he should have done it before, at least y’all are cutting your ties now. You don’t want to get married to a man who isn’t fully in love with you, and it’s obvious that he isn’t fully in love with you. You deserve more.
Hannah Ann looked at him and said, “We’re done. I mean it.”
And in her little box on the bottom left hand side of the t.v., Barb started clapping and cheering Hannah Ann on. Real nice, Barb. #dontbeaBarb
Hannah Ann went on to say that she felt betrayed and she had no idea what she was saying YES to when she accepted his proposal. And she was right. It was a fair complaint because the whole “Madi left 2 days ago” declaration was most definitely a half truth.
Although, I actually thought that Peter explained himself very well why he did what he did in the moment. Yes, he was sad about Madi, but he also had loving feelings towards Hannah Ann, and he thought those would grow. I guess he was mistaken.
HANNAH ANN AND PETER ON STAGE
First of all, Hannah Ann didn’t come to play. Her spray tan, her extensions, her perfectly perky (but not overwhelming) boobs, and her red dress cut down to there all meant business. The girl looked GORGEOUS.
She immediately started in with him and said she was blindsided during the proposal (because he wasn’t honest about why Madi left) and again at the L.A. house when he told her for the first time how he couldn’t give her his full heart. Apparently he’d been saying all the right things to keep her around and hanging on (even though they hadn’t seen each other in a month). She felt it was unfair, and I’m sure she was right. She said, “You either don’t mean what you say, or you don’t understand the impact of your words, so which one is it?”
AND AGAIN, THERE WAS BARB RIGHT ON CUE WITH AN AGGRESSIVE HEAD NOD AND APPLAUSE.
That woman really rubs me the wrong way.
In closing, Hannah Ann said “looking back on it, our engagement involved three women. Me, you still being in love with Madison and proposing to me, and you needing closure with Hannah Brown.”
I MEAN. She just threw Hannah Brown into the mix, and I was not expecting that.
But Hannah Ann, you are wrong about something…there were 4 women in your relationship.
BECAUSE LET’S NOT FORGET THE BIG OL’ WHACK-A-DOODLE OF A FUTURE MOTHER IN LAW. Because she might like you now, but the first time you suggested Thanksgiving with your family instead of hers, SHE WOULD HAVE TURNED ON YOU IN A HEARTBEAT.
Hannah Ann’s final words….”If you want to be with a woman, you need to become a real man.”
And there was Barb, right on cue with the nods and the claps. #dontbeaBarb
HARRISON WENT TO AUBURN
So here’s what went down. When Peter and Hannah Ann called it quits, Harrison took it upon himself to head to Auburn to have a little sit down with Madi.
Madi: So what happened after I left?
Harrison: He got engaged.
She looked completely torn up, and Harrison shared that Peter didn’t now he was there, but that the engagement had ended.
Madi: “Is he okay?”
HOW SWEET IS THAT?
Harrison: “Are you in love with Peter?”
Madi: “I mean, like I know that I fell in love with him and those feelings have not gone away, but I don’t know where his head is at and what’s going on in his mind right now. It’s just confusing.”
Harrison: “He ended his engagement because of his feelings for you. I think in his dream that he would be with you.”
Her lashes continued to confuse me, but Madi was still adorable and she admitted to Chris that she regretted leaving.
And don’t you worry, Barb was in the corner. Look at her face! She rolled her eyes no less that 27 times. It was disgraceful. #dontbeaBarb
Madi: “If I had a second chance, I’d take it in a heartbeat.”
Harrison: “This is your second chance, so what are you going to do?”
Madi: “I guess we’re going to L.A.!”
Me: SUCK IT, BARB!!!!
So they went to L.A.
Peter was standing in a backyard somewhere, and we learned that he was expecting Chris Harrison, but he got Madi. He was genuinely surprised. AND THRILLED.
THIS is what love stories are made of Barb!
A man that is in love with a woman that he’s willing to do hard things for to possibly be with her (like break up with his current fiance). A man that is willing to better himself not just to deserve her love, but because he wants to be better too.
They stood forehead to forehead, OBVIOUSLY. And daggers shot out of Barb’s eyes. #dontbeaBarb
Peter said, “I’ve made a million and 1 mistakes..but I fell in love with you. And I know I messed up, and I messed up, and I messed up. And I’m so sorry for that. But I haven’t fallen out of love with you.”
Madi: “I know we can’t change the past.”
Peter: “So what do we do?”
Cut to commercial break.
BACK TO THE STUDIO AUDIENCE
Peter then told the audience that he hadn’t seen Madison since that day.
HUH?
I had many questions. HOW LONG ago was that day? WHY hadn’t they seen each other? And perhaps the most important question, WHY hadn’t he placed Barb in the corner and told her to shut her mouth?
Harrison asked Peter if he loved her, and Peter said “Yeah”. I would have preferred a more rousing declaration of love, but okay.
As you can imagine, Barb was a stone cold B.
Madi came out on the stage looking STUNNING and her mascara was ON POINT.
Madi said, “I love Peter and that hasn’t changed since that day in Australia.”
They talked about how it is all a lot to process, and that although they’ve talked since, they haven’t seen each other. But then Harrison said WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
Neither one of them gave a real straight forward answer, but it seems that the gist is that they are going to take things slow and see what happens.
What happened next made me want to go hide under the kitchen table.
Harrison asked Barb how she felt about everything, and the woman unloaded.
Barb talked about how Hannah Ann organically embraced her with love and they just loved her so much. But the next day when they met Madison “she had us wait for 3 hours for her to come in to meet us.” I identified with this lady and her side eye on a deep level.
PUH-LEEZ, Barb.
Barb, I’ve had to watch 4 hours of The Bachelor this week WITH YOUR FACE fake crying several times and making all sorts of hateful grimaces and strange sounds. You were FINE waiting for 3 hours.
She went on to say how Madi didn’t apologize that they were late, and when she asked her if she was madly in love with her son that she said “no” and that she would not accept a proposal in 4 days. She the shared how the family clicked with Hannah Ann and how the unfortunately did not click with Madison.
BUT Y’ALL.
Madi was such a class act. I’m going to share what she said word for word, only because I thought she handled herself so beautifully.
Madi said, “At the end of the day, it is what it is. You can’t change the past, and there was a lot that out of my control. I came into this journey and I said I was going to be unashamed of who I am and undeniably myself, and that is something I’ve done throughout this entire journey.”
She went on to say, “I’m not a mom, so I don’t know what it’s like to have a son and to have kids. I know I have love and respect for Peter, therefore I have love and respect for Peter’s family….so I will never say a negative word about anyone or anything.”
SHE WAS A TRUE CLASS ACT.
#BEAMADI
It is my hope and prayer that one day Carter will bring home a girl as strong in her faith and convictions as Madi is.
And even after her respectful words, Barb had the nerve to lean over to her husband and say “She didn’t even answer the question.”
Harrison then asked Peter how he felt about it all, and Peter gave his family a pass. My opinion is that he was too kind to them and didn’t stick up enough for Madi. He said it all came from a place of love, which I understand to a point, but he really needed to defend Madi’s honor in that moment!
But then he looked straight at his parents and said, “I know how she feels for me, and I know how I feel for her. And I just ask that you guys that you can just give her that chance and trust me.”
Harrison gave Barb another chance to open her mouth.
Which was a mistake.
She said “We want the best for him. And I have to tell you, the girls were completely two different people that one was willing to compromise and the other has not. And to me, you need both to compromise….And Hannah Ann was the only one that had given her heart to Peter.”
Madi spoke up at that point and respectfully shared her thoughts. She politely said, “I disagree! I think this isn’t just Peter’s journey. When you sign up to come on a show like this, you’re looking for love too. This wasn’t just Peter looking for his wife, I totally understand as a mother you are obviously going to be thinking of Peter, but this is my journey too. This isn’t just Peter choosing me, this is me choosing Peter.”
WELL SAID, MADI! Her parents must be so proud. HECK, I’M PROUD!!!!
Harrison kept on what I can only image was trying to give Barb a chance to make nice, and he asked her “How do we turn the page?”
Big mistake.
Big.
Huge.
Barb said, “He’s going to have to fail to succeed. That’s it. All his friends and all his family….everybody that knows him knows it’s not going to work.”
Where are the Fletcher brothers when you need them.
Peter said, “I’m telling you that I love Madison, and that should be enough. Listen to me. Listen, please.”
Harrison then said, “Dad what’s your take on this?”
And that’s when the whack-a-doodle (remember that’s code) turned to her husband and said something in Spanish to him under her breath.
She said “Say something bad too, help me.”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME, BARB?
IS THIS WOMAN FOR REAL?
I certainly hope that today she’s embarrassed of her behavior and that she’s taking a moment to reflect on how she could have handled herself better.
Dad said, “I hate this situation, and it’s telling to me that there’s so many obstacles in his way to even get to this point.”
And that was that.
Let me say this. If this doesn’t work out with Madi, a huge GOOD LUCK to Peter because I can’t imagine that anybody would willingly sign up for whack-a-doodle BARB. SERIOUSLY. Can you EVEN IMAGINE her being a grandmother to your babies?
So, that’s that.
Y’all, I have more that I could say about Barb, but I’m going to refrain.
But let’s all agree that #dontbeaBarb should start trending.
Julie Connelly says
OMG, I have soooo much I could say but I totally agree w/ you…#dontbeabarb. I just can’t believe the stuff she said especially on TV. So disrespectful!!!! I would be so embarrassed if I were Peter. If I were in their shoes, her behavior would push me even MORE to make the relationship work. Clearly they love each other, so I really do hope it works out for them. Buuuut I’m also sorry for Madison to have that for a MIL!!!!! LOL
Kristen T says
Your bachelor recaps are not only hilarious but spot on every week! My friend and I share quotes from you and literally LOL together! Thank you so much for doing them again this season!! I totally agree with you on every single thing especially they #dontbebarb needs to be trending!!!
Ava says
You are absolutely hysterical!
Kathy says
Yes! I totally want #dontbeabarb to start trending! That woman is a whack-a-doodle for sure, and all the other names that fall under the category of CRAZY B. Chris Harrison should have take the opportunity to counsel Barb during this episode about how to love your child unconditionally, instead of manipulating them with your tears and dramatics–or shaming them in pubic. I guess Harrison saves his counseling talents for bachelor and bachelorette contestants only? That’s too bad because Pete’s family sure could have used it this season!
Christy says
If I remember it was Chris H who reached out to M! No one is blaming him ?
Alissa says
Wait, she actually said that to her husband?? I couldn’t tell what she had said but if what you’re saying are her actual words, that’s sooo disrespectful!
Sheaffer says
That’s what lots of readers messaged me! And I saw it on E News, so I guess it’s true! 🙂
Tiffany Gardner says
TRUTH. All truth.
Becky says
Oh my word! My youngest daughter could have had a Barb (yes, that was her name) for a mother in law. I literally get new ticks when I think about that woman. She was SO similar to Peter’s mom. Loved your recaps…….
Christy says
5-7-9 bahaha! She is only 23 so should transition to the Casual Corner soon. #dontbeabarb #beamadi I think it may be a culture clash between California and the South on the uber awkward wiggle talk. So cringy!!!
Ronin says
No it’s not a California thing, I’d be mortified if myself or my kids talked like that❤️
Rhonda says
Definitely not a California thing! I’m born and raised in California and my parents would never have been that interested in my “wiggle” life. And talking about it on national television? We all would have rather died a thousand deaths. I think it’s a #dontbeabarb total lack of boundaries issue rather than a California lifestyle issue.
A. Louise says
not a culture or regional thing…. it’s a NARCISSIST thing. Barb wants to interfere in her son’s lives, and is clearly controlling of her husband, as well. Maddie and Peter ultimately broke up last night for good (Thursday) with both posting very respectful regrets on IG. And within minutes Barb posted a song and dance to “Leaving on a Jet Plane” with a couple of “friends”…. So, clearly, this is not a mature, decent or normal woman (or mom) in any culture, region or lifestyle. Peter needs to contemplate the role his mother should play in his life and romances. NOW. Or he will never have control of his life.
Michelle says
#dontbeabarb
I LOVE your posts! Thank you for your time doing these!!
I also feel that Madison has a solid Christian young man with NO baggage and a loving family out there for her! I feel that Madison should be friends with Peter, but move on. TOO MUCH DAMAGE has been done and the future for them looks REALLY ROUGH. Who wants that??
Sharon A says
I totally agree! She can do much better!!! Peter (and his fam) is not for her—especially after all of this drama.
Jenny says
My heart stopped too when he said Madison during the proposal!! Love your recaps so much!! #dontbeabarb
Susan says
Great recap again! I thought of you when I saw Peter in the jeans!! The good news for Peter is that anything bad or weird this season he did can be easily explained by the unhealthy relationship with Barb. Yikes! He gets sympathy more than rebuke for some very questionable decisions. Hopefully Madi can help him, but I completely understand if she runs in the opposite direction.
Lauren says
Another great recap! I always look forward to reading your thoughts!
Jenny says
I can’t even bring myself to watch this stuff anymore, but I do LIVE for your recaps! Hilarious!!!! It also confirms I can’t stomach this stuff anymore. ?
#dontbeabarb
Dawn Spencer says
I love this! As usual, you are so spot on. I have no doubt that you have more to say. We all have so much to say. The entire thing was just the most bizarre spectacle I have ever seen. However, I am just out of energy for these people and I want my life back! I am exiting the crazy train and hope that I can work through all the oddly strong (why do I even care about these nut jobs??) feelings I have about the entire Weber family. For me the entire thing can be summed up with one of your lines, “Barb was a stone cold B.”
Also, Madison’s parents deserve some sort of parenting award. The girl was just so level-headed and well-spoken. She never strayed from who she said she was. I was beyond impressed. I can’t imagine how it could ever work out between her and Peter, and wish for better for Madison.
Keisha Dawson says
Once again, I didn’t watch, but your recap was fabulous! I learned so many way I don’t want to act when my boys find that special somone!
Amy says
You had me rolling on a day when the mood needed to be lightened! Absolutely hysterical, #don’tbeabarb! Maddie was a class act for sure… I loved what she said. As a mother of two boys she is a normal mother’s dream!
Kathy says
In a later interview, Hannah Ann said that Peter told her in January (after the November proposal) that he needed to talk to Hannah B for closure. Hannah Ann knew that was a huge red flag. Barb has created such a weasel for the horrible way Peter treated Hannah Ann and for sleeping with the other girls when he knew Madi was the one and that it would affect her. Madi has a tough road ahead.
Diane Hagarty says
I just don’t understand what happened between the vow renewal date (Madi’s first date with Peter) and seeing them again in Australia. At the vow renewal, Barb was all hugs and sweet to Madi and even made sure she caught her bouquet! The whole family seemed to love her then…
It really seemed like they turned on her after hearing she didn’t want Peter being intimate with anyone. Just eww. I do blame Peter though for ever telling his family about that. None of their business!
Yley Allen says
Yes to every thing you said! I also thought he was having a “Ross and Rachel” moment! My heart stopped. I also think Hannah Ann was 100% not genuine through this whole thing. I really think she just loves the camera and attention. So ultimately she promised accepted a proposal she didn’t really want anyway. I do feel bad for Peter- I hope for his sake he moves out of state so he can have a chance at a healthy relationship away from his crazy family.
Melissa says
I love your recaps, they are hysterical. And i will definitely trend #don’tbeabarb! Lots of life lessons there.
Brandye says
Sheaffer, you are on point, as always! I’m dying over here…all the fake crying. I think someone nailed it in the comments above…culture clash of the Deep South vs California. Madi is a great model of Southern women. My gracious, Southern gradmother would love her. #beamadi
If Madi and Peter just choose to live FAR away from Peter’s family, they might have a chance. And that’s sad, but Barb is creating that for herself, no matter who her boys marry. #dontbeabarb Engaged couples gotta know the whole family comes with your new spouse. My m-i-l passed away in 2017, but she was GOLD. I love her dearly.
My hs boyfriend’s mom was just like that. Turns out he was cut from the same cloth. I have friends that are married to their hs sweetheart. I thank God that I am not.
Terry C says
Sigh… I really don’t care who Peter ended up with because this season was generally a bore, but I have to take issue with everyone who is applauding Madi for her #wiggleandwearedone antics. I’m FINE with her values and #yayher, but if that was so important to her, why did she go on The Bachelor in the first place? It’s not like the Fantasy Suites and wiggle expectations is not a known thing going into it. To me, it seems her no-wiggle-before-marriage and oh-yes-let-me-be-on-the-show stances are totally at odds… and that is where she loses my respect.
Ruth says
Thank you for saying EXACTLY what I am feeling about Barb! I honestly couldn’t believe her, but then I realized that is exactly why Peter has been rewarding the drama and gravitating to the emotional girls all season. It’s what he’s always known, apparently. Props to Peter’s dad for seemingly being so caring and understanding to his wack-a-doodle wife! Unfortunately, I think that if Madi and Peter don’t last, his mother will be the main reason, which is so sad because Barb says she loves her son SO much but really, she just wants her own way, not his true happiness 🙁
Alice H says
Peter definitely should have stuck up for Madi more. He is a wimp!!! BARB IS A NUTJOB!!!!! I would run as fast I could if I were Madi!!!!
Vickie says
Having raised three amazing young men and one daughter (three of whom are now married) I am appalled by this woman! As the old adage says, “A son is a son ’til he gets a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life. ” It is hard being a boy mom knowing that one day he will take a wife and you will take a backseat but the joy of having a daughter in law and forging a relationship with her is everything! Take note Barb! I keep thinking Sean and Catherine need to spend some quality time with this couple. Peter could benefit from some one on one time with Sean Lowe. Madi is strong in her faith and I cannot see how this will work with Barb in the picture. #dontbeabarb
Michelle says
Once again, your recap was better than the show itself! #dontbeabarb – love it! Poor Peter…he will never find a wife because who in their right mind would marry into that family?!! Even my husband who could care less about this show, walked into the room and made a negative comment about Barb. It was truly unbelievable! Thanks for keeping me entertained with your hilarious commentary. You’re the best!
Timothy and Rachelle Smith says
Love your recaps and 100 percent agree about Peter’s mom. I pray my daughter doesn’t end up with a MIL like that! She is a terrible person. What loving mom would do that to her son on national TV??
Ahsia says
This was an amazing recap. I felt like I was watching right along with you. Thanks so much for taking your time to do these.
Dawn Scheurich says
I have SO many thoughts of Barb, but just let me say I 1000000000% agree with everything you had to say about her! #shamefulbehavior And I am seriously using your #dontbeabarb hashtag like I’m getting paid!
April Parrish says
Well, Chris Harrison was finally right- this was a very shocking & dramatic finale! I did not expect Barb to act the way she did. What is wrong with people? I agree with Madi 100%. Peter is intimate with these women on the fantasy dates and then in just a few days wants to propose to the very one he didn’t do the big wiggle with! Who in their right mind would accept a proposal from a guy who was intimate with someone just days before. Peter needs Madi because he needs Jesus…and so does Barb! I hope Madi can continue to show Peter and his jacked up family the love of Jesus!
Love the hashtag- #dontbeabarb ???
Tara C says
What a sad situation for any woman who may marry one of Barb’s boys! She is literally CRAZY!
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
First off, I want to sit Madi down at the Nordstrom beauty counter and let them give her a full makeup tutorial. It looked a lot better at the finale but we’ll have to see more pics to see if she sticks with it. I’m so confused by those lashes! Also, I hope Madi and Peter don’t try to stick this thing out longer than they should just to stick it to his mom. They clearly have some very major differences when it comes to lifestyles but even if they could get through that I honestly don’t see how anyone could love someone enough to sign up for that woman for the rest of her life. There is no love worth it. ? And Barb will cause nothing but problems for WHOEVER he marries. I feel bad for him! He can’t win with that woman attached to him.
Amy says
Ugh, I am not a Madi fan at all. I can’t understand why she came on this show. She has stated that she wants a man to be the religious leader of her family, just like her dad, yet she came on the show to date a man that is not overly religious that she knew had sex 4 times in a windmill last season. That’s fishy to me and screams that she came on this show to become “famous” or to gain Instagram followers. I do feel like she wants to change Peter and that she expects him to do all of the compromising. And somehow because changing him has to do with religion that makes it ok? I can’t agree with that. I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT disagree with how Barb handled this whole situation, but I have to agree with her line of thought that Madi doesn’t want Peter just as he is and that he needs to change his lifestyle in order to be with her. Madi would never change her lifestyle to conform to him, and let’s be clear, I’m not saying that she should, but people think Peter should change his lifestyle for her? That’s kind of crazy. Again, I think Barb should have kept her trap SHUT, but I do understand where she is coming from. These two are just not compatible in my opinion.
Jennifer says
I absolutely love your posts and they always make me laugh! And while I am 100% on “Team Barb-Is-A-Whack-A-Doo”, I have a different take on Madi.
I am sure that I will get a lot of backlash for this…but I have to say that I lost all respect for Madi on this episode and thought that her behavior was on near-equal footing of Crazy Lady’s. Here’s my thoughts:
1. If she really made the family wait 3 hours while hashing out her feelings with Fly Boy outside, she should have apologized when she went in the house, or at a minimum, acknowledged the 3 hour delay.
2. Since she didn’t do that in Australia, she should have started her response to Crazy Lady in the Studio with either an apology or an acknowledgement of her feelings (and even if she didn’t mean it, she could have said it…followed by a patented Hannah Brown “Buuuuuuutttttttt”). Instead, she rolled her eyes and said “It is what it is…”
3. In my experience, when a Millennial uses the phrase: “It is what it is…”, that is code for “Go f*** yourself…” and it was completely disrespectful of her to act that way.
In my view, she dropped herself down to Crazy Lady’s level and acted like a spoiled child. I was not impressed.
However, I do have to say that Hannah Ann was a complete rock star and I think that they did an editing disservice to her during the season. During the season, they made her out to be this naïve, young, innocent girl who had never experienced love. But based on her performance on the Final Rose, that girl is smart, well spoken, and knows what she wants. I really wish she was the next Bachelorette. Oh well, here’s to hoping we see her on Paradise!

I agree with you completely. To Madie: Start with an apology and end with a bless your heart. Hold you head up and face the world. Southern style

Thank you for your recaps…you spared me plenty of wasted hours of watching, and provided the laughs I missed. I have the most wonderful MIL, and I will do my best to not be anything like a Barb!!

You are spot on!! I could not believe how she acted and what she said. Appalling!! #dontbeabarb. Madison was a class act! #beamadi.
Allison says
Of course ABC allowed the Weber parents drama for good TV, I don’t remember parents being involved much (Arie? Jason?) But I bet Madison’s parents had some feels about how a grown woman was talking and acting towards their daughter. But, they are also a whole lot classier and are way more respectful people I’m sure. #beamadi

Whack-a-doodle (code) is exactly right. Barb is nothing but manipulative. Using her {fake} tears to get the men in her life (husband and sons) to do what she wants. No wonder the man was so wishy-washy throughout this whole season. He didn’t have his mommy there to tell him what to do! And I truly feel sorry for him. He needs to cut the cord or he will live at home with her forever.
I truly feel one reason she loved Hannah Ann so much is because she would be able to manipulate Hannah Ann the way she does the men in her life. Madi seems to be her own person, and has strong values and opinions, and Barb can’t control that. Hannah Ann just cried and said she loved her son.
I don’t think this relationship will work if Peter doesn’t stand up to his Mom.

your recaps are the absolute best!!! thanks so much !!! #dontbeaBarb

One of my favorite moments was when Hannah Ann said the “you took away my first engagement.” Adding in the “first” really tickled me. If she was already planning on more than one then SOMEONE had to be the one to take away the first one. #dontbeabarb

I never used to watch this show but I have been following you for a couple of years now and I started reading your recaps. I thought they were so funny that I started tuning in every now and then. This time I caught the whole season and boy did I pick a season to watch! I agree, watching Barb was a lesson in how not to behave. As a mother and as a human being. For the life of me I do not understand how you can revile someone so much simply because they have a moral compass. Madi is a beautiful girl and a real class act. I wish her and Hannah Ann all the best!

This finale left my heart hurting (I never thought I would say that about this show). When Madison showed up at the pool you could see the pure joy and relief Peter had to have her back in his arms. I feel like he genuinely loved her and really wanted a woman with her integrity and morals to catapult him in to being a better man, I think he was drawn to that. You saw him beaming when she walked back out on the stage too, he loves her and his mother SHOULD have seen that as well. Barb can have her opinions, she can have her predictions but they should have been kept to herself. My thought is Barb is used to being the queen bee of their family and she wants to remain in that position. Hannah Ann met them and just gushed about how great they were, how great Peter was and it was all rainbows and butterflies (Barb likes hearing how great her and her family are). Also, life isn’t rainbows and butterflies, she seemed phony to me and rehearsed, if I were Barb and had to sit through Hannah Ann’s conversations I would have been gagging. Madi “made them wait 3 hrs”. Sorry Barb, your son was talking with his girlfriend about some issues and if they thought they could get over them. Madi didn’t want to do something as special as meeting the parents (that’s called respect) if she didn’t feel like they could work. Take a nap on the couch Barb. And when Barb was talking to her Madi stopped the conversation and didn’t just compliment Barb she gave an opinion and I think from that moment it was over for Madi because Barb felt challenged. Barb thought this is a person that could threaten my throne. Barb might
not have Peter for every holiday because Madi has a backbone and Peter would want Madi to see her family during the holidays too because he loves her. Then Barb went in to rage mode and was willing to do and say anything to put Madi in a bad light with zero thoughts of how it might hurt her son. As Peter sat on that stage and heard his mom say “you have to fail to succeed” I wanted to hug Peter and Madi, and then Barb went on to say all our family and friends know this won’t work…so you’ve been talking crap behind Your son’s back Barb???? Classy, way to show him you love him SO much. She is a selfish, manipulative and vile woman with zero class. Madi’s parents should be so proud, they have done their job and done it so well. I think Barb made it clear she will never make it possible for Peter and Madi to work which is great for Madi, she can do better but life is gonna be rough for Peter. Any woman knowing Barb is lurking in the background should be verrrry afraid. I was happy to see that in an interview Chris Harrison made it clear it wasn’t just Madi that had Barb waiting, it wasn’t like Madi was trying to find an outfit or taking forever on her makeup, it was her and Peter talking. I think Chris Harrison was shocked by Barb’s behavior as well.

I agree…SUCK TI BARB!! She was so cruel. What gets me is Barb stated Madi was 3 hours late meeting them…she had already met them and Barb loved her then. I hope Barbs sees herself and is totally ashamed. Madi held herself high and didn’t fall for the manipulation. Way to go Madi!!! #dontbeabarb #beamadi

Sheaffer, my only wish would be that Maddison’s daddy could have walked out of the wings and sat down next to “Whack-o-doodle” and dared her to roll her eyes one more time at his precious daughter!! Love your recaps and agree with you ?❗️ P.S. Every single time you said “took to the bed” I died ?

You are HILARIOUS! & a great writer. I don’t even watch the show. (can’t stomach it) BUT I love your recaps. Thank you for brightening my day with a (few) belly laugh(s).

I sure hope Ms. Whackadoodle reads this. I keep thinking the same thing…she broke every possible MIL commandment and best watch her P’s and Q’s if she ever wants to see her grandbabies in person. No woman in her right mind will put up with her nonsense. #nufsaid

Barb is likely to lose her son over this. Ever make your children chose between you and the one they love. Either they will chose the one they love instead of you, or they will chose you and be miserable and silently blame you. I pray Peter is strong and follows his heart. #futuremotherinlawfromhell #dontbeabarb

Great recap!! I have a different take on Peter though. I really do think men are always attracted to women who play hard to get. Madi was immensely more attracted when she left. Hannnah Ann lost her appeal when she became too available. She was willing to accept Peter’s proposal even with some nagging issues. She was almost coming across as desperate to keep everything together. I think Hannah Ann is stunning but she should have washed her hair before the California breakup scene b/c it looked dirty. She still looked amazing on her worst day, though. Madi was looking rough in Auburn and I too don’t know what’s going on with those spider lashes. I actually liked both girls and feel bad for Hannah. I’m not sure Madi was the real winner though with possible in-laws like those. Love the hashtag #dontbeabarb.

And today, just 1 day later, the papers are reporting Peter and Madison have gone theirs separate ways. Shocker, right? Girls in the future should run, not walk away from mommas boy Peter and his crazy mom.
The Bachelor’s Peter Weber and Madison Prewett have SPLIT after finale
Amy says
AAAANNNNDDD this just in (per GMA): Peter & Madi have already broken up. Check out their instagrams.
I love Madi but I do think a woman of faith like her deserves so much better. A man who loves her AND is willing to wait for her.
Barb is probably smugly smirking and planning (manipulating) her own Peter & Hannah reunion hookup. ?

Loved your recaps almost as much as I loved Madi’s lashes during the after the rose show! And I think Barb needs to self quarantine for at least a year so she can think about what she did.

Girl don’t you ever stop doing these recaps. You have a gift for sure and I thank you for finding time to make us all laugh. You are so right about the mother in law thing and I’m here to tell you that’s one of the things I strive at is to be a good one. I’m the mama of 2 sons and boy mom’s have a tendency to mother hen their boys. But since mine have been adults, they have taught me there is a line drawn now. No adult son wants to be hovered over by their mom. So suck up all the loving you can before they turn 13 or so. After that it is side hugs?

How is #dontbeabarb not trending???

Sheaffer, I actually pretty much despise The Bachelor, but your recap here was hilarious! Having taught writing and literature for the past fifteen years, I really appreciate an author who has a strong voice, and your voice in your writing is just lovely! Thanks for the smiles!

Oh my goodness, Amy! What a wonderful compliment! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave it. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Love these recaps so much!
Barb was a total whack-a-doodle!
So broken hearted that Peter and Madi called it quits already, but I think it’s for the better. She is such a sweet and genuine girl! She will find a gem!
Not sure if you saw that Peter posted an Instagram video showing an article about his relationship with his mom and then panned over and there she was on the couch!
That lady has to go! Why is he with her already? He’s 28 not 8!!
Get out from under her grip!!!
