I shopped the sale like a FREAKING MACHINE on Tuesday, so today you can consider me your personal shopper, a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale tour guide of sorts.  Don’t you worry, I’m super qualified for the job.  I had a great time shopping, and I’m actually really proud of this post.  I was very thoughtful this year when trying things on and making purchases, and I truly feel like my picks will serve us all well.

I’m going to be showing you MY VERY FAVORITE items today.  Just the tip of the top and the cream of the crop, and I hope you have some clear favorites that emerge as well. THE STUFF IS GOOD, Y’ALL.  (Make sure you are following me on Facebook and Instagram too because I will also be posting often on social media today and throughput the weekend.)

IMPORTANT:  Even if you can’t shop until tomorrow (or even next week), today’s post will still be super helpful.  It can serve as a lookbook of sorts, and you can start narrowing down what you want after seeing my favorites.  

STRATEGY:  Because Nordstrom has FREE SHIPPING and FREE RETURNS, I wouldn’t recommend browsing leisurely and waiting till the weekend to place your order.  I promise you, certain items will be gone if you do that.  I heard it time and time again last year.

NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE EARLY ACCESS FAVORITE FINDS

Let’s Go Ahead and Start With Blardigans.  Obviously.

Right off the bat…right out of the gate…we need to talk about blaridgans.  I looked back at last year’s post, and 2 short days into the sale, some of the most popular colors and sizes were already sold out.  Every blogger in the world will be talking about them this year because the word is out and BECAUSE THEY REALLY ARE MAGICAL, so grab yours before the rest of the world does.

But I would like to remind you that I pretty much discovered the blardigan years ago.  #iwasapioneer

For those of you that are new around here, BLARDIGAN is a word that I made up around 5 years ago, but I would like to think it’s part of many people’s everyday vernacular now.  I mean, if you type “blardigan” in on the Nordstrom site, you are lead to a blardigan landing page for crying out loud!  I mean, if Nordstrom recognizes it as a word, let’s go ahead and all agree that it’s a real word. So, what is a blardigan?

Blardigan, noun – An article of clothing that is a perfect marriage between a BLanket and a cARDIGAN.  A blardigan is SOFTER THAN SOFT and COZIER THAN COZY. 

YES. FREAKING. M’AM.

I might have made it up, but it’s TOTALLY A word now.

I currently own 4 blardigans (1 is actually Carter’s – yes, my son has his own), and I’ve probably given over 20 as gifts over the last 5 years.  They are perfect gifts for graduation, new mommys, Christmas, Mother’s Day, and JUST BECAUSE gifts.  I’ve also given countless to friends and family who are going through a hard time.  It sounds a bit cheesy, but I feel that giving a blardigan is like giving a hug.  Right now is definitely the time to grab them. I’ve given them to my mom, mother in law, my sister, my sister in law, and a grandmother for Christmas.  I believe it is truly the best give to give and receive, and I’m always so proud when I gift one.  I always hope that the recipient thinks about how much they are loved each time they put it on.

THE BABY BLARDIGAN

The baby blardigan is the shortest of all the blardigans, it has a rounded hem, and it has pockets.  I  wear it both in and out of the house and it seriously still brings a smile to my face each time I put it on.  When I’m wearing it, I’m living my best life.  The x-small/small is the size I prefer, but the next size up is just a more relaxed fit and has a bit of extra length (which some prefer).  The arms are fitted, which is what allows it to be worn out of the house (and not just look like lounge wear), so consider sizing up if you prefer extra room in your arms.

Here are the 3 colors you have to choose from this year.  Oh, wait!  It also comes in a dark grey that wasn’t at my store.

(Before we go any further…you will see me wearing this white tee throughout today’s post, but I don’t recommend it.  It’s very thin and quite see thru.)

The new blardigan on the block is awesome.  Remember the hooded blardigan from last year?  It’s very similar in shape and fit to that one, but this one does NOT have a hood.  It’s the hoodless hooded blardigan.  And I love it.

I get a new blardigan just about every year (this is a no judgement zone, ya’ll! ha!), and this year I grabbed the beautiful olive green (seen on the left).  I’m so pumped about this new color.

I get questions all the time on if I wear blardigans out of the house, and the answer is always HECK, YES!  You can see above how I styled the baby blardigan super casually with jeans and sneakers.

Below you will see how I dressed it up with booties, a belt, and some jewelry!  So, yes…you can lounge around in them all day at home, but you can also wear them to the office!  Or church!  Or on a date night!

If you’ve never touched a blardigan, I get that you might not understand what all the hype is about.  But once you touch it, you’ll understand.  And once you slip one on, you’ll be hooked for life.

This new blardigan also comes in a beautiful neutral, but I didn’t see it at my store.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing an x-small here, but I think I would prefer the fit of a regular small.

MY FAVORITE SHOES FROM THE SALE

Whenever I shop the sale, I always head to the shoes first.  WHY?  Shoes sell out the fastest. And some sell out lightning fast.  At my local mall, they were out of my size (6 1/2) of several shoes just a couple of hours after the sale started.  I know the online inventory is much deeper, but I’m betting that these first 2 pairs of shoes are going to go SUPER fast (especially in the most popular sizes).

THE SHOES WERE DEFINITELY THE BEST PART OF THE SALE THIS YEAR.  I’ll admit I went shoe crazy, but I just couldn’t narrow them down.  So many great choices at unbelievable prices.  Pay attention to my sizing tips, because sizing was all over the place this year.  Also important to know, I do not wear or buy uncomfortable shoes.  So if I am highlighting them, it means they were comfy as I was trying them on and walking around the shoe showroom floor.  If they aren’t comfy when initially putting them on, I immediately take them off.  I’m hoping they will all stand the test of time and continue to be comfy!

I got THESE SNEAKERS in grey earlier this year and absolutely love them!  I grabbed the black ones on Tuesday (with the fab gold accents), although the white ones are darling too and have a vertical pink stripe down the back.   People always ask if the ribbon laces (so cute!) stay tied, and they totally do as long as you are intentional when you tie them!

AND GET THIS.  THEY ARE ONLY $63.90 RIGHT NOW!  That’s a total steal!

Sizing tip:  These are true to size for me, but some size DOWN a 1/2.

I will be wearing these with all of my Zella gear (seen at the end of the post), but they also look great with ankle jeans!

THESE WEDGE BOOTIES are definitely going to be one of the top sellers of the sale.  I’m not sure how deep the buy was, but I imagine they will sell out really quickly.  They are very comfy, just the right height, and the feminine little cut out on the outer ankle and the stitching makes them the perfect bootie in my mind.  There were other similar booties in the sale, but they just slipped on without a zipper, and I very much prefer a zipper.  It makes getting them on and off so much easier.

I know suede tends to scare some, but these have been weatherized and are waterproof!  NO FEAR NECESSARY!

Sizing tip:  size DOWN a 1/2 in these.  My color is “Sesame”, but they also come in black, taupe, a darker brown, leopard, and the super popular snake skin!  After the sale is over, they will go up to $130, but right now they are under $88!

I also went for THESE PERFORATED BOOTIES!  What can I say, they spoke to me.  I like how they are a little bit funky and not a super high heel.  I usually go for a flat pair of booties in the sale, but there weren’t any in store that I loved, which gave me just the push I needed to grab these.  The stacked heel is chunky and great, and the geometric perforations are so unique!

Sizing tip:  size down a 1/2 in these.  I got the 37s.  Color:  Light Brown.  They also come in a black, a grey/blue, and an olive.  Regularly $140 and on sale for $90!

I don’t normally shop for heels in the sale, but because of the fabulous work pants in the sale that I’m crazy obsessed with (you’ll finally see them in a minute!), I knew I needed to grab some heels this year.  THIS CLASSIC BLACK PAIR were at the top of the list.  I loved the leopard too, but they only had one 6 1/2 at my store, and they were sold before I could get to them!  The pointy toe, the sassy little cut out, and the heel height were just what I was looking for.

Sizing tip:  Size DOWN a 1/2 in these.  My regular size slipped up and down on my heel when walking.  When I went down a 1/2 they definitely felt a bit tight when I put them on, but they should stretch a tiny bit with wear.

I put these on and just thought these leopard mules were so much fun! After looking at the catalog, I had my eye on these and the studded flats you will see next.  They will of course look great with ankle skinny jeans, but I also thought they would be the perfect types of shoes to wear with some funky cropped flare jeans I’ll show you tomorrow.  And just under $70 is a great deal.  I’m actually considering taking these back (even though I love them) because I already have a leopard flat I love in my closet.  These mules are definitely different, but I’m still not sure if I can justify it.

Sizing tip:  size UP a 1/2 in these.  In addition to leopard, this mule also comes in mustard and black.

This pointy toe studded flat whispered my name from across the room, and it was love at first sight.  These are the same flats that so many of us grabbed in leopard (without studs) earlier this year, and now there are 4 colors of the super cool studded version.  I thought the mustard was SO FALL, so I scooped them up.

Sizing tip:  I sized DOWN a 1/2 in these.  These great little flats also come in light grey, black, and a great snakeskin (which is HUGE this year).

This leopard boot is SASSY.  I love how the entire boot (including the heel) is leopard, and the slits on each ankle are so sassy and flattering.  These babies will add so much flare to basic outfits.  In addition to black clothing, I also love to pair leopard with oatmeal, Kelly green, mustard, and all shades of pink.  They really are a sassy neutral and very versatile.

Sizing tip:  TRUE TO SIZE.  If you aren’t in the market for such a bold leopard bootie, these also comes in a studded black and a snakeskin.

I already have 2 pairs of Shoreline Converse sneakers, so I didn’t personally need another pair, BUT THESE SNEAKS ARE ONLY $39.90 right now!  Unbelievable!!!  Size down a 1/2 size for sure.  Y’all know I much prefer the Shoreline Converse to regular Converse, and I think these colors are great.  I wear these no show socks with my Converse, and they are included in the sale too!  Sizing tip:  size down 1 whole size.

MY FAVORITE JEANS FROM THE SALE

There are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo many jeans in the sale.  If shopping the sale on your own (without the help of your own personal tour guide), all of the hundreds of jeans would be super overwhelming.  Luckily, I had 2 of my favorite jean brands send me a nice selection of jeans several weeks ago, so I was able to try lots of jeans on in the comfort of my own home, wear them for more than 2 seconds in a dressing room, and really decide which ones I loved.

Remember how I was a brand ambassador for Kut from the Kloth earlier this year?  Well, I’m excited to be working with them again!  The pair of jeans you will be seeing most frequently in today’s post are THESE BABIES.  I LOVE THEM.

They have a great amount of stretch (but they don’t lose their shape during the day), a hint of distressing, and they are a great medium/dark wash.  I love the slighty frayed hem and think they look great with booties.  They are skinny enough to easily tuck into a tall boot as well.  If you are already a KUT lover, you have to try these!  (P.S.A.:  Pay no attention to the picture of the jeans that are linked.  I know for sure I am linking the right jeans because I checked with my KUT contact, but they are not as wide on the bottom as they appear to be on the site.)  If you like the jeans I’m wearing, I promise they are linked correctly.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

You’ll also see this Ab-Solution pair from Wit and Wisdom several times in today’s post too!  ALSO LOVE. They are ultra comfortable, have the Ab-solution power mesh panels for the tummy that so many of us are OBSESSED WITH, and they also have booty lift construction.  These jeans WORK HARD for us.

Although this pair can be dressed up with boots or booties, I prefer to wear them with sneakers to keep the SUPER COMFY theme going.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing my regular size 4s, but I would suggest sizing down if between sizes.  They come in petite too, and I’m going to order these in a petite to compare. I would prefer more of my ankle showing.

THE BEST WORK PANTS EVER

LISTEN TO ME.

Seriously, I’m going to need your full and undivided attention for just a sec.

I am not sure that I can adequately convey my excitement and passion for these pants, but I sure am going to try! I didn’t see them in store yesterday (thank you to Wit and Wisdom for sending them to me early), so when 2 of the sales associate complimented me when they saw them on me,  I made both of them touch the pants and pull on the waistband.  AND I’M NOT EVEN ASHAMED.  I got appropriate levels of “oooohs” and “ahhhhhhs”, and it made me giddy.  When I had Chris pull on the waistband, his eyes dang near popped out of his head.  He went on and on about how they needed to create a men’s version.

I obviously don’t work in an office, but I’m so happy to have a pair of pants like this in my closet.  EVERYBODY NEEDS A  PAIR OF CLASSIC BLACK PANTS.  And if they look amazing but feel like pajamas, EVEN BETTER!  The fabric has a nice weight to it, they don’t show wrinkles, and I love the built in belt.  AND LADIES.  THEY ARE SOOOOOOO INCREDIBLY FLATTERING.  I feel like a million bucks in these pants.  Oh, and they also have the Ab-solution power mesh panels!  The belt is made out of the same stretchy fabric that the pants are, and I love how its presence helps to define my waist.

Let’s talk sizing.  I’m in my regular 4s, and I wasn’t able to try on 2s since they weren’t in store, but I’m thinking that everybody should size down.  I was able to pull the 4s on without even undoing the little belt or zipper.  That’s how stretchy they are.  I’m actually ordering all 3 pairs in size 2s today for myself.  I’m wearing the regulars and love the fit, but they come in petite too!

UPDATE:  MY SIZE 2s CAME IN AND THEY ARE GREAT!  DEFINITELY SIZE DOWN!!!

And in case you need me to say it again, I LOVE THEM.  I adore the ankle length, but I don’t think they are high waisted like described.  I think they are a perfect mid rise.

And get this, they are ONLY $44.90!!!  I seriously cannot believe  it.

Look how sharp these pants are!  I think they look like a perfectly tailored pant, and the overall style reminds me of the Marisa pants from LOFT.  But let me say this, they are 23,000% more comfy than the Marisa pants.

Here they are with one of my very favorite blouses from the sale!  I adore the blush cheetah pattern, the little ruffle neck, AND THE SLEEVES ARE TO DIE FOR.  They puff out a bit and are then gathered close to the bottom which creates a nice little feminine ruffle.  I love the sleeve length and how they cover up the entire top 1/2 of my arm.

The blouse pairs perfectly with these dressy pants, but it would also look great with skinny jeans and tall boots, or boot cut jeans and heels!  Seriously.  Think how cute that would be.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing a medium because I needed the room in the chest…but otherwise, stick to your regular size.

So…..these amazing pants don’t just come in black, they come in 2 patterns as well!

Here they are in a great plaid!  These are the exact same pants, just a different pattern.  They also come in a small muted grey check that I can’t wait to receive!  Again, I suggest sizing down (the size 2s are on their way to me).

This faux wrap sweater is a wonderful basic in black, but it comes in 9 total patterns, including a leopard colorway that is darling.  It’s tacked right where it crosses at the chest, so there shouldn’t be any wardrobe malfunctions.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing a medium.

If you prefer a classic crew neck, this is the one I’m recommending from the sale (you’ll see it below in a great color block pattern with jeans).

MY FAVORITE ACCESSORIES FROM THE SALE

If I’m being honest, I was not thrilled with the jewelry selection this year. And I was really hopeful for the Gorgana pieces, but I didn’t like how shiny they were.  However, I did fall in love with a small number of pieces that I’m very excited about!

I am also really pumped about the 2 belts that I picked up!  I wore a leopard belt all fall and winter last year and just love the finishing touch a great belt gives an outfit.  This year I’ll be mixing it up with this reptile print belt (I think it’s so fun that the print is a brown reptile, and not the standard black and white snake print) and this black belt with a tortoise ring. You’ll see both of them throughout today’s post.

TWO OF MY FAVORITE JACKETS

There are tons of jackets in the sale, but two favorites quickly emerged for me.

Y’all know I love a great military jacket almost as much as I love my denim jackets, so I had to show you this little camo number today!  When I saw this on the rack, it looked kind of “eh”, but I fell in love as soon as I slipped it on.  I saw several people try this on, and I thought it looked great on everybody (of all shapes and sizes).

I love this camo color and pattern, I love the collar, I love the length (will cover most of your bum), and I love the little stitched design on the pockets.  One of the best features of the jacket is that it can be cinched in at the waist, which leaves a gathered look about waist level from the back.  SO CUTE.  And get this.  During the sale, it’s just under $60!

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing a small, and I often wear a medium in jackets, so you might want to size down.

This suede moto jacket is fun and edgy, but somehow still remains totally wearable even for a mama that’s not edgy AT ALL.  And the price is phenomenal at $78.90!

The cut is great, and I love this neutral color, but it’s the black zippers and hardware that totally make this jacket.

This one surprised me. In addition to just looking cool, it’s incredibly comfortable.  The material is stretchy and it just feels great.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing a medium, which is pretty consistent for me in a jacket like this.  If I didn’t need a little room in the chest, I would have gone with the small.

MY FAVORITE SWEATERS AND CARDIGANS

The Anniversary Sale usually hits it out of the park with sweaters and cardigans, and this year was no different.

LOOK AT THIS SWEATER, Y’ALL.

Do you think I like it?  I wanted to convey my excitement in the picture, and I think I nailed it.

I believe this sweater comes in 9 different colorways, but this one is THE MOST DARLING OF ALL.  I think the color combo is gorgeous and a bit unexpected.  I love it with the reptile belt, but it would also look awesome with a leopard belt.

This sweater is soooo soft, a really great classic basic, and definitely one of my TOP PICKS.  I obviously think it looks great worn casually with jeans, but it’s nice enough to wear with work pants and heels.  You could also style one of the solid colors with my favorite work pants and loafers for a fun preppy look.  I’m definitely going to pick this one up in a solid color too.  It’s just a great basic that will become a work horse in your closet.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing a small, but I need a medium.  I’m sucking in like a crazy person here, but I’m guessing the medium is going to give a more relaxed fit.   OH!  And there’s a turtleneck version HERE!

And look how great it looks with the studded mustard flats (remember to size down a 1/2).  I also think it would be cute to lose this belt and style it with the leopard booties.

When I saw this long cardi on the hanger, I thought it was way too long.  #iwaswrong

It’s perfectly long, and I love the long and lean look it creates.  It’s soft, lightweight, ribbed, and has this great shawl collar.  This would be cute with the mustard flats too.  I love pink and mustard together.

Sizing Tip:  Size down for sure.  I’m wearing an x-small.

I was so excited to see this famous Madewell cardi in the sale in this really pretty color block/stripe combo.  The cream, oatmeal, blush, and rust all combine together so beautifully.

Sizing tip: Size way down, I’m wearing an x-small.  This cardi is very oversized and even the x-small was a little bit big on me.  It also comes in a navy and grey color block combo.

MY GO TO BRA AND UNDIES

I first purchased THIS BRA several years ago during the sale, and it’s become a tradition to get a new one every year during the sale.  It’s expensive when not on sale ($72), but I have found that it’s SO WORTH the money.  Grabbing it at the sale price at $47.90 is a no brainer. I named it a MUST HAVE a couple of years ago, and I know soooooooooooooooooo many of you are believers now too!  If you doubt me, just check out the online reviews.  The cups are perfectly rounded, it has just the right amount of lining, and the material is oh so comfy.  And look how pretty the straps are!  Click HERE for the bra.  True to size for me.

I discovered the these undies 3 years ago during the sale, and now they have a cult following.  (They are called “girl briefs”, but they are definitely for women.)  They stay in place without digging into the skin, rolling down, etc.  Plus, they are pretty with the lace detailing.  And I’m telling you, you can barely even tell you have them on!  I wear a small, so they are true to size for me.  I initially bought 1 pair to try several years ago, and then I immediately hopped on and purchased 3 more.  Since my initial purchase, I’ve probably purchased 20 additional pair.  When I found myself sad when they were all in the laundry, I started grabbing several pair every time they were on sale.  Life’s too short to wear undies that you don’t love.  You can quote me on that.

I got sooooo many comments on yesterday’s post from readers that say that they stock up on these every single year!

bra / underwear

OH!  AND CHECK THIS OUT!  The strapless bra that I’ve been raving about for 5 years now and have turned so many of y’all onto……the dark tan color is in the sale!  My friend Meagan finally bought one last month, and she keeps texting me about it saying things like “My saggy boobies have been perfectly happy and supported since 7 a.m.  They feel confident again!  This strapless bra is a miracle worker!”  And days later “I’ve decided I only want to wear the strapless bra.  Always.”   YEP, THAT’S RIGHT.  So many of us wear this strapless EVEN WHEN WE DON’T HAVE TO WEAR A STRAPLESS.  That’s pretty much unheard of, y’all!  Sizing tips: Some buy their regular size, and some size up in the band or the cup.

THE FAMOUS BLANKET

People of all ages love THIS BLANKET, and I can personally attest to the fact that it’s one of the softest and most cozy blankets you will ever own.  I have 3 throws and have probably given 10 as gifts.  You cannot beat the $25.90 price point, and I actually prefer this to the Barefoot Dreams blanket!

I get messages like this (that I received yesterday) ALL THE TIME:  Last year upon your recommendation I purchased “the best blanket in the world”, well my kids all fight over it. So this year I am ordering them each one for Christmas and some as baby shower gifts and another one for myself too!!  Ann. K

ZELLA

I ADORE THESE HIGH WAISTED ANKLE LEGGINGS.  They come up above my belly button, and they suck me in like crazy, while somehow still allowing me to breathe and be 100% comfortable.  THEY ARE MAGIC.  Once I tried the high waisted option a couple of years ago, I have never purchased the regular rise again.  And although I own lots of different lengths of Zella leggings, this slightly above the ankle version is my favorite.

And get this, this year’s version has a great little pocket on the side!  So cute and obviously functional!  And they still manage to be super slimming.  If you prefer the longer length, click HERE.  I’ll be showing the ombre tomorrow that I love!
