A white tee and a scarf are two items that many of you probably already have in your closet.
I’m going to show you 6 outfits today, and the base of all 6 outfits is simply a white tee and a plaid infinity scarf! For today’s post, I set out to highlight the flexibility of these two items and how they could work in lots of different types of outfits, and I think you will see that I’ve proved my point. In fact, I stopped at 6 outfits today, but I feel like I could have easily thrown together at least 4 more!
So, any ol’ white tee will do for these outfits (although I do have some favorites that I’ll be highlighting today). Many of these outfits would also work with scarves you already have, although I do feel like this particular scarf is extra fabulous. The colors are great, it’s not too overwhelming, and because it’s an infinity scarf it totally styles itself! All you have to do is wrap it around your neck twice!
When I planned all of these outfits a couple of weeks ago, I used this white tee (the one I say is “like buttah”) for all of the outfit flat lays. However, after I started actually putting the looks together, I realized that this particular tee worked best when the layer worn with it was long (like the hooded blardigan or the long grey cardi). Also, although I have a small in the like buttah tee in the wine color (you can see it on me HERE), the white color was quite a bit bigger. I’m not sure if the one I received was sized wrong, or if maybe the white one is just sized differently?!? Anyway, in the outfits where the layer was shorter (like the military jacket or denim jacket), a tee with less length worked way better. So, when I actually wore those outfits, I subbed in this peplum tee. If you prefer a short sleeved tee, y’all know I love this one from Madewell.
OUTFIT #1:
I came out of the gate strong with skinny cargo pants, a denim jacket, and a leopard clutch! I adored this whole combination! Fyi, this is one of the outfits that when I actually started putting it on, I realized that a shorter tee was much better proportioned for the jacket. These cargo skinny pants are stretchy and awesome. At 5’4″, the petite sizing was perfect for me for ankle length.

Grey jeans and a military jacket are also a perfect pairing for a white tee and this scarf.

This outfit is a bit unexpected, but I thought pairing the plaid with camo was so much fun. I have a couple pairs of camo pants from years past that I love, but I always get requests for current camo pants. This pair is from Wit and Wisdom, and they have a plus size version also (both linked below)!

TALK ABOUT COZY! Beware, if you put this outfit on, you might cancel your errands for the day and just stay in. It’s made up of my pajama jeans, my hooded blardigan, and my slim profile UGG boots. I MEAN, COME ON!!!

Now, this outfit is probably the most “me”. The must have denim jacket, shoreline converse, and a baseball cap mean I can look cute (even if I haven’t washed my hair in a couple of days). 😉 #word

And here’s an outfit that shows you how a white tee and scarf can be dressed up a bit with a long cardi and some skinny black jeans! And I couldn’t resist adding a tiny little pop of leopard with a skinny belt.

GIRL!!! You sure did come out of that gate STRONG! SO many cute ways to wear an old white tee with a scarf. I can’t even choose a favorite look! Too many cute options!
Jess says
Would you say this top is long enough to wear with leggings?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jess! The white small I received would definitely be long enough to wear with leggings. HOWEVER, the wine and the black one I have are NOT long enough to wear with leggings. I’m not sure if the small is sized differently, or if I just received a bad one. Sorry I’m not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I got the black one to wear with camo leggings I got from The Gap and it is plenty long and looks great. But yesterday I tried it on with skinny cargo pants and it seemed huge and much too loose. I think the one I got must be the “runs larger” version.

I love the hooded blardigan! I purchased it during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I’m so glad that I did! I think I need it in all colors. So comfy and cozy. 🙂

Can you tell me if the buttery white swing shirt is at all see-through? I love the look of a white tshirt, but hate having to wear camis under them.
Sheaffer says
Hey, Jennifer! It’s not see through, but you will have to wear a bra with no lace. The lace can be seen through the super soft buttery fabric! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

LOVE this post! Thank you for all the outfit ideas.

Loved this post, Schaeffer! Thanks for the ideas

Considering. Getting the white shirt. Quick question…..do you need to wear a cami under it? Is it see through? I find it SO hard to find a good white shirt that doesn’t need a cami. Thanks so much!
Sheaffer says
Hey, Jenny! So, you might want to hold off on the white shirt. As I mentioned in the post, it is MUCH bigger than the same shirt I have in a different color. I’m not sure if I got a bad one, or if the white one is just sized differently. Now, that being said, it’s not see thru! However, you will need to wear a bra with no lace, or that will show thru. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!! I feel like I am talking to a celebrity!! Enjoy the weekend.

All of these outfits are so cute. I love basics like an infinity scarf and white tee because they go with so much. I never thought I would like plaid and camo together, but you made it work.
xoxo

I really loved this post! One of the things that I love about your blog is that you repeat your basics and come up with new combinations to inspire us. I mean, repeatedly wearing our clothes- isn’t that what real people do?? Thanks for keeping it real !!!
Sheaffer says
Thanks so much for your sweet comment, Mary! I know I have favorites that I wear again and again and again! I mean, good gracious! My denim jacket is almost 4 years old now! Ha! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I really loved this post. I’m all about using what I have in my closet and making this work in multiple outfits. Following your lead I finally bought the camo jeans and the scarf.
I know you said the scarf styles itself, but I can’t make it work. It feels overwhelming. Could you do a post on how to style an infinity scarf for us scarf challenged girls? I really want to make it work and be stylish this fall. My outfits are depending on it 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi, Suzanne! I’ve had one other person mention the scarf feeling overwhelming. After I loop it twice, I zhush it how I want it, and then I kind of pat it down. No tricks other than that. Are you typically a scarf person? My mom isn’t, and all scarves drive her crazy. I would maybe suggest looking for a scarf that is really gauzy and very lightweight. It might feel more manageable that way! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for one! xoxo, Sheaffer
