I’m a jeans girl thru and thru. I love jeans and wear them often.
But sometimes the occasion or maybe even just my mood dictates a different choice than just regular ol’ jeans…
So today, I have three alternatives for you. The first two options are actually still denim, although they don’t look like traditional denim at all. And the third option is a pair of black pants. I’m going to style each pair several different ways.
patch pocket blush pants / cropped olive wide leg pants / pleated black pants
BLUSH PATCH POCKET PANTS
Let’s kick things off with these blush patch pocket pants. They are stretchy and comfy and have a bit of a retro vibe with the front patch pockets. I’m 5’4″, and I had to cuff them for them to be cropped. They are actually a raw frayed hem, and I like that look better than having them cuffed, so I’ve decided that I’m going to cut off several inches so I can keep the frayed hem look.
The blush will work in the spring and summer too, but I actually think it’s a great neutral color with a little bit of interest. I think they look awesome styled for fall! For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4.
Here I went with a simple short sleeve ribbed sweater and some leopard loafers! The sweater also comes in off white and stone, which would both also look great with these blush pants. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

And if you’ve been reading here for a while, you had to know I was going to put this combo together. In fact, I’m going to show all three pairs of pants today both with the black sweater and with this tee and denim jacket combo.

These loafers are my newest obsession.
First of all, if you don’t know, LEOPARD IS BACK IN A BIG WAY. These Rothy’s leopard loafers are an investment for sure, but I know I’m going to wear the heck out of them, so I took the leap. True to size for me and sooooooooooooo comfy. Rothy’s are definitely known for being insanely comfortable.
Here’s what you need to know about Rothy’s:
- Fits true to size. For best fit, order your regular size.
- Soft, flexible upper.
- Dual-density insoles create an exceptionally comfortable feel.
- Gum outsoles with raised nubs for extra grip and durability.
- Machine Washable: Toss in the wash. Air dry. Wear again and again.
- Knit with Rothy’s signature thread, which is spun from recycled plastic bottles.
Click HERE to see all of the Rothy’s choices because they have lots of different colors and styles including round toe Mary Janes, square toe Mary Janes, pointy toe ballet flats, braided loafers, loafer mules, and the choices continue!
You can also see here how I cuffed my pants to get the cropped look. Yep, I’m definitely going to cut them on my own because I definitely prefer the raw hem look.

Even though I’m in love with the Rothy’s, I also wanted to give another choice that’s much more economical. These leopard knit ballet flats are ONLY $14.98!!! They don’t hug your feet like the Rothy’s, but the fabric feels similar (although not as substantial and luxe). I got my regular size, and my heels slip in these, so I would suggest sizing down a 1/2. I’m returning them since I’m keeping the Rothy’s (seen above), but they are definitely an affordable option.

And here are a couple more outfit ideas for the pants…

I think I might have found one of my fall uniforms…

CROPPED OLIVE WIDE LEG PANTS
These cropped olive pants have a wider leg than the above blush option, and they are shorter with a finished hem, but they do have the same patch pocket front. They’re 98% cotton and 2% spandex, and I love the bit of stretch they have. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 27.

And just like I did with the blush pants, I’ve styled them here with the short sleeve sweater and leopard loafers.

And here are some other ways to style the olive pants…
I love them with sneakers.

Stripes and leopard? I’m down.

BLACK PLEATED CROPPED PANTS
The fact that I’m LOVING some pants from Wit and Wisdom should come as no surprise to any of you.
HOWEVER, these pants are pleated, so I was not expecting to love them at all. Because of the pleats, I didn’t think they were going to work on my body (since my tummy is my problem area). WELL, I was wrong! They are crazy comfy and quite flattering! They are a substantial ponte like fabric, but they’re a medium weight and not too heavy at all. They are crazy super soft and stretchy, but they keep their shape throughout the day. They’ve got a double bar and hook closure with a hidden button and a functional zipper, but I’m telling you, you can just pull these on if you want to! Yes, they have that much give. Most size down in these, but I’m wearing my regular size 4.
A pleated high waist elevates the style of stretchy, ankle-grazing straight-leg pants featuring ‘Ab’solution powermesh panels that mold and hold.

I love these pants. Color me surprised.

And here are some more looks with the pants…
They would look really cute with fashion sneakers, but you could also dress them up with kitten heels. They will be great for all different sorts of occasions, including work.

Several observations… I never thought about blush pants for fall, but one of my daughters has a blush/light brown flannel shirt that would look adorable with those pants. Leopard print (loafers or belt) are considered a neutral in my opinion. I was in junior high and high school in the 80’s and swore I would never wear pleated pants again. Last year at Nordstrom Rack (we don’t have a Nordstrom) I tried on a pair of light weight wool pants with pleats; they draped wonderfully, the fabric was like butter and they were so well made. They should have been for $250… at Nordstrom Rack! I passed because of the price but also my promise to never wear pleats again… every once in a while I still think about those pants. All of my kids (ages 16-21) have pleated pants, but I’m still not sold. PS: they do look good on you though.

I’m with you, Sandi! I never thought I would wear pleated pants, yet Here WE ARE! 😉 And yes, leopard is 100% a neutral. xoxo

Also, what are your thoughts on socks over leggings? Are people our age completely out of style if we leave our ankles showing? Are chunky white tennis shoes and crew socks only for the younger set? Would love your advice…you are always on point!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Pamela! I’ve actually already ordered those jeans!!!!! I think they get in today!!!! About the leggings/socks questions…. I’m thinking my ankles are still going to be proudly exposed. Never say never, but I can’t see me rocking the crew socks trend. 🙂 Haha!
