Happy Monday, Everybody! And I’m not sure if this is the case where you are, but if you live in my neck of the woods, HAPPY SUMMER!
I thought today would be the perfect day to take a look at my beach bag. First of all, SHE’S CUTE. Second of all, she holds a ton. And finally, the products in the bag all come highly recommended by yours truly.
Tropic Like It’s Hot tote / beach towel
WHAT I’M WEARING
Before we break down what’s in the bag, I thought you might want to see what I’m wearing. My new swimsuit is so good. The coral and pink ombre is so pretty, and I love the fit of the suit. The 8 is perfect on me (I always size up in swimsuits), and it’s super flattering. You know, for a swimsuit. 🙂 You’ll see that it also comes in a blue ombre as well. I actually love lots of the Tommy Bahama suits and cover-ups because they are super cute, but age appropriate for me. They are suits I can feel comfortable in.
My new cover-up is awesome too! I love the idea of an oversized shirt as a cover up, and this one is light and gauzy. It’s 100% cotton, and I love that the crinkly look gives it a totally relaxed feel. It’s perfect! For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

You know, let’s go ahead and talk about the rest of the outfit before we get to what’s actually in my bag. I was thrilled to find this straw hat. Here’s something you may or may not know about me…I have a HUGE melon. Yep, my noggin is big. It just is.
Most of the time hats that are in stores don’t even fit my head, but when I saw this one came in sizes, I went ahead and ordered the large. WELL. The large is actually a bit too big, but you better believe that I’m going to exchange it for a medium. I might be layering incredible sunscreen all over my face, but I’m going to double down on my sun protection with a hat too. This one has great reviews and it’s super reasonable.

Okay, the tote.
The tote is FABULOUS.
I mean, tell me “Tropic Like It’s Hot” didn’t make you smile. And then tell me you didn’t sing it in your head. I mean, I know I did. #snoopdog4evah
It’s a great size, it’s big enough to hold tons of items, but it’s not too big that if you stuff it full that it will be too heavy to carry.
Check out other bags from the same maker HERE. There are tons of cute options!

These jelly slide sandals are one of my favorite finds from the last couple of months. HOW CUTE ARE THESE SANDALS! Mine are the “bright poppy”.
Raise your hand if you were around for the jelly sandal trend in the 80s. These are a chic and modern new jelly sandal, and I am HERE. FOR. IT. They are absolutely perfect for the pool and beach. I used to think I would wear them around town too, but they are kind of slick on the bottom, so I think these will be my official pool/beach shoes. True to size for me.

And please pay attention to the GLAM bag. More on the bag in a minute.

WHAT’S IN MY BAG
This GLAM bag is THE BOMB.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever used that phrase before…I’ve certainly never written it.. BUT IT IS IN FACT THE BOMB.
It reminds me of a designer brand that is known for bags with appliqued letters. These bags are typically carried at high end department stores and are super expensive, but this GLAM bag is a total nod to that brand for just a fraction of the price! I found it in the kid’s department, and it’s only $28!
Because of the material, I knew it would make a perfect catch all for all of my products in my beach bag (and I carry a lot of products, as you’ll see). It looks like there’s only 35 of these babies, so scoop one up for yourself before it’s gone!
Okay, so what is my GLAM bag holding?
Let’s start with the obvious.
I’ve been talking about this brand for years, so I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that you will find a lot of Supergoop! products in my beach bag.
I’ve talked about both of these products many many times before, but I can’t have a What’s In My Beach Bag post without singing their praises.
The Unseen Sunscreen IS AMAZING. I used it for the very first time last summer, and I became an immediate fan. It’s weightless, invisible, scent free, and gives incredible coverage and protection for your face. My skin absorbs it very quickly (like IMMEDIATELY!) and there is NO TRACE of it. It’s not oily or greasy, it gives a matte finish, and it doesn’t leave any white residue behind either. I think it goes on like a primer! It’s velvety in texture and it totally just glides on your skin, both under and even over your makeup. Also, from reading reviews it seems it’s awesome for people with super sensitive skin. I’m telling you, the product is absolutely incredible.
I used to only use Supergoop! Glow Screen as my “foundation” when I knew I was going to be in the sun for a prolonged period of time.
HOWEVER.
I’ve come to love the product so much that I’m now wearing it every single day that I apply make-up in the spring and summer. I love the color, the glow, and the level of coverage it gives! And please don’t let the “GLOW” in the name scare you. It’s very subtle and just really pretty! And the SPF is just a huge bonus. Sometimes I wear it on it’s own, and sometimes I combine it with 1 or 2 other products (more on that in a minute.)
I seriously cannot recommend these products enough. I want all of you to try them because they are truly amazing.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen/ Supergoop !Glow Screen
Out of the next 3 products, I only really keep the Glow Screen in my beach bag (I actually have 1 in my beach bag and 1 on my bathroom counter, but I still wanted to talk about all 3 products in today’s post.
If I’m going to the pool or beach, I’m most often going to use the Supergoop Glow Screen on it’s own. As I mentioned before, it protects me from the sun while giving me the slightest glow and color. If I want to look like I have a deeper tan on my face, I combine the Glow Screen with the Body Blur. Both for the body and the face, a little goes a long way. I started using the Body Blur after I stopped using self tanners on my face. {After getting IPL to treat and remove the dark spots on my face, I’ve been scared to use the self tanners on my face that I once loved. I don’t want the remaining darkness on my face to grab on to the self-tanners, so I’ve stopped using them completely. I’ve just been so pleased with my IPL results, that I’m wary of messing up the progress.} The Body Blur allows me to add some additional color to my face. Officially, it’s a wash off skin finishing body makeup that perfects skin, gives a natural looking tint for the body, and reflects light for a photo-ready finish.
When I want a full face and full coverage, I actually do a combo of the Supergoop Glow Screen with the It Cosmetics CC Cream (and I sometimes add the Body Blur in as well).
Supergoop Glow Screen /Body Blur / It Cosmetics CC Cream
I started using the CC Cream last year, and it’s definitely a favorite. I’d been hearing about it for years, and now I know why. IT’S TOTALLY LEGIT. (And because I personally didn’t know for a lonnnnnnnnnng time, CC stands for “Color Correcting.” It makes so much sense now.) Ha! It really does a beautiful job of evening out skin tone while covering up redness and discoloration. It’s actually the #1 CC Cream in America with over 20,000 5 STAR REVIEWS! And it has sun protection too with SPF 50+! It will provide you with:
- Lightweight, hydrating texture that won’t crease or crack
- Hydrating anti-aging serum that improves the look of your skin
- Physical sunscreen with up to SPF 50+—perfect for even sensitive skin
But here’s why I like it: It gives me FULL COVERAGE (which I have recently come to appreciate), but it doesn’t look cakey or like “too much”. I’m telling you, friends noticed that I was doing something different, and they complimented me on it. I feel like it gives me an even complexion AND a youthful glow. So yeah, I’m hard core hooked. #givemethatglow
And like I said previously, I use different combinations of the below on different days.
Some days I only wear the Supergoop Glow Screen .
Other days when I want a little deeper of a color, I combine just a small little drop of the Body Blur with the Supergoop Glow Screen. It really deepens the color.
And on days when I want full coverage, I add the CC Cream into the mix.
Supergoop Glow Screen /Body Blur / It Cosmetics CC Cream
This Mineral Powder Foundation is a super easy way to reapply sunscreen to your face when out and about. Just brush it on like you would a loose powder, and you’re covered! I wouldn’t use this product without putting anything else on my face and feel protected, but I love it for reapplication.
This may seem silly, but the first time I purchased this sunscreen, I couldn’t figure out how to apply it. When you receive it, the yellow pin you see on the left is in the middle of the brush. You have to pull out the pin to remove it in order for the powder to come out. (I will tell you, it took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to figure that out. Haha!)
I’ve shared this before, but I started using this Coola sunscreen after borrowing a friend’s at the lake last summer. I actually prefer it now to the Supergoop spray on suncreen.
This Coola sunscreen sprays on very evenly via a really light mist and it smells amazing. It’s a continuous nonaerosol, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 50 protection, anti-aging benefits and a guava mango scent. I’m telling you, IT’S AN INCREDIBLE PRODUCT. And it’s not just me that thinks so, the reviews are fantastic. Coola has an array of products to choose from if you want to check them all out! I know you’ll love this sunscreen if you try it!
Supergoop Glow Oil / Coola guava mango sport sunscreen (SPF 50)
The Supergoop Glow Oil was a product recommended to me by my sister. Even though I use and love several Supergoop products, I wasn’t familiar with the Glow Oil, so I was excited to try it.
I thought it was an oil to use on your skin just to make it look healthy and hydrated. But when using it for the first time, I saw that it said SPF 50 on the bottle, so I realized it was an actual sunscreen as well! It makes my skin so glowy, it looks so healthy, and it provides sun protection! And somehow, even though it’s an oil, I don’t feel greasy after applying it. It has a light melon scent that I love, but I really just love the way it makes my skin look.
When preparing for this post, I was looking around for new products to order and try out. I loved the idea of a cream shadow with SPF when I saw it, and to be honest, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought about applying SPF to my eyelids before. I mean, of course they are delicate and need to be protected from the sun. I ordered “first light”, and it’s just a super subtle glow with some shimmer (but it’s not too sparkly). This picture doesn’t do justice to how pretty this product is when applied (you can see the subtle shimmer on the fleshy part of my hand).
Supergoop! illuminating cream eyeshadow
This detangler brush is a game changer. I believe I talked about it during a beauty post last year, and I’m still using it and still loving it. It’s meant to be kept in the shower, so I brush my wet hair with it before even stepping out of the shower. It’s awesome because it doesn’t pull, tug, or snag my hair. The teeth easily glide through my hair. I brush it, I wring out extra water, and then I brush it again.
And listen, although I know it’s meant to be kept in the shower, I’m telling you that you need one for your beach/pool bag too. Get it for yourself for sure, but I’m thinking this is also a necessity for all of you that have daughters.
I don’t actually keep this Olaplex Moisture Mask in my beach bag, but I’m talking about it today because it’s going to be a new part of my summer routine. I wash my hair much more frequently during the summer months, which means I’m styling it much more frequently during the summer months. With increased washings and heat stylings, I thought it would be a good idea to make sure I was doing something to maintain health and shine.
I know this is hard to believe, but I’d never even tried any Olaplex products until last month (while doing “market research” for this post). 🙂 I’ve obviously heard influencers raving about it for years, but I never took the plunge. I had a hair mask that I’ve used for awhile that I LOVE, but it’s been sold out for a long time now (production issues), so I wanted to find a new option. Olaplex #8 is a multi-benefit, reparative hair mask that moisturizes, smoothes and adds body and shine to hair. There’s a ton of Olaplex products, but it seemed like a good place to start for me.
How to use: Apply to clean, damp hair from mid-length to ends, working through with your fingers. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse fully and style as usual. Start with two pumps for shoulder-length hair. Use more for longer, thicker hair, and less for fine or short hair. Use weekly for best results.
I plan on using it once a week. The first couple of times I’ve used it, I’ve been amazed at how soft my hair is afterwards and it really does seem to tame fly-aways too. I’m actually interested in all of y’alls Olaplex experiences, so please sound off in the comments about your favorite Olaplex products and what has worked the best for you. After buying #8, I’ve actually read a lot about Olaplex #3 and wonder if that’s where I should have started.

I really love a shiny lip. I’m not into the matte lip look at all, and you will always find me wearing a gloss. In fact, I often wear just a gloss, but even if I’m wearing lipstick I’m always wearing a gloss over it (even if it’s just clear). The Juicy tubes lip gloss gives me a super shiny lip and it is SO hydrating! This is product I actually ordered in preparation for my GET THE GLOW post last month, and I fell in love with the shade “hallucination”. It’s a perfect neutral shade and shine to wear as a natural look (with a hint of color) with a (faux) tan! I also love wearing it over lipsticks for a glossy finish.
I recently started using this Clinique chubby stick in “roly poly rosy”, and I’m obsessed. I’d been reading that traditional powder blushes can make more mature skin appear older, so I was on the hunt for a cream blush. Heaven knows I don’t want to put anything on my skin that makes it look even more mature. This cream blush is hydrating, and it doesn’t settle into lines. I also love the color. It blends beautifully and just adds the perfect rosiness to my cheeks. And although it doesn’t say you are supposed to use it on your lips, I have.

This Coola product is a tinted mineral lip balm that adds a hint of color to your lips while protecting, nourishing and softening. I went with the color “summer crush”. To be honest, I don’t love the color on me, but I do love the sun protection it gives AND I don’t mind the taste. The taste is actually pretty pleasant. It may sound weird to comment on taste, but I’ve tried SEVERAL lip sunscreens, and the taste on all of them has been absolutely terrible, so I’m happy to have found this one.
Twice in my life I’ve suffered a sunburn on my lips, and it was an awful experience. Once was in high school when I was on a ski trip with friends, and the other time was just a couple of years ago when at the beach with my family. I vowed then that I would never not wear sunscreen on my lips again. They swelled to twice their normal size, and it was painful. And I can tell ya this, it wasn’t pretty.
So, this lady now makes it a priority to use SPF on my lips.

So, that’s it for today!
That’s what in my beach bag, just in time for summer!

NORDSTROM 2022 BEAUTY POST REVIEW
I’ve had several posts with Nordstrom this year that have focused on beauty.
Click HERE for the Get Your Glow On post.
It’s in this post that I shared my love for the St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse.
I’ve tried TONS of self-tanners over the last 10 or so years. TONS.
And I would say the great majority I’ve tried have been a big ol’ fail. Some were too difficult to apply, some weren’t a pretty color, and some were super streaky.
St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse / self tanning mitt / jelly slide sandals (size down if between sizes)
Now, there are several I’ve found that I really like, but this St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse has to be my favorite of all times.
First of all, I LOVE the color. It’s a really pretty bronzy brown and I think it looks very natural. Like you just got back from the beach! Secondly, it is SO EASY to apply. See the mousse on the mitt below? Because of the color, you can see exactly where you are applying it! So if you miss a spot, you know and can correct it immediately.
Now, if you haven’t used the mousse before, the self-tanning mitt is ESSENTIAL for an easy and smooth application. It keeps your hands clean, and it really does make the application just about flawless. It helps you evenly distribute the mousse and it helps to blend it beautifully.
I’ll put a fresh application on tomorrow and take pictures so I can share them on Wednesday!

I love Olaplex products. I really like #8, but #3 really is my favorite. My hair was very damaged, and it has totally revitalized the bounce and shine. Try it for sure!

That’s so good to know, Elizabeth! Adding it to cart right now!!! xoxo

I ADORE the Clinique chubby stick for blush too…. great color and simple to apply makes it a big WIN for me! My stylist recently shared an article about dangerous ingredients in shampoos/conditioners (I’d been bouncing between Head & Shoulders and Olaplex) that included both product lines, so I recently tried Prose hair care and am IN LOVE with it! It’s personalized, so you select the things that are important to you (shine, volume, smooth, etc) and they create a system that’s supposed to make your hair look and feel its’ best… it’s even cut down on the time it takes me to dry my shoulder-length hair! LMK if I can send you a code to try it… I would love to share it with you. 😉

The Brixton hat has been my go-to for years. I receive countless comments on it. Please note – you are not alone in the big noggin club! I am a 7 1/8 and take a size Small. I could take the Medium, but it’s a smidge too big.
Olaplex 3 is the best! I didn’t give much thought when I used their shampoo and conditioner; only when I didn’t use it, did I notice that my hair wasn’t as soft and healthy looking as when I did use the combo. Warning – once you start Olaplex you will not go back to any other brand – it is that good and worth EVERY penny.
P.S. I have that amazing detangler brush. I have mid-length, thick red hair that is a true rats nest after the shower. This detangles without pulling out ANY hair!
Sheaffer says
Hey, Gail! Great to know about the hat! Can’t wait to try Olaplex 3!!! And seriously, the brush is amazing!!!! xoxo
Martina says
I use nr 3&8 and I like them but am not not amazed. I always do the Olaplex treatment at the hairdresser and that has def improved my hair. But you have to try Olaplex nr 6! You use it on wet (leave in) or on dry hair. Honesty, I have never had a hair product make so much difference. It will give your hair great texture, “just blow dried” look, tame frizzy ends, it smells heavenly and is very light weight.
Sheaffer says
Okay, Martina! Now I have to add #6 to my cart as well! Thanks for the recommendation! xoxo
