I’m super excited for today’s post for a couple of reasons. One, you get a little peek into the quick little Galveston getaway we did last weekend. Two, you get to see all of the outfits I packed! I’ll show you more of the trip next week on my What’s Up Wednesday post, so today we’re really going to focus on the clothes and the sunscreen. Because y’all, I’m pretty passionate about the sunscreen.
You’re going to get to see 5 outfits today that I packed for our quick little trip. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and we left on Sunday morning, but we had tons of fun in between. Any special time I get to spend with this guy is okay by me!
My life in 1 picture. All we’re missing is the 2 furry guys.
I wore this on the car ride, and although I packed two other pairs of shorts, these were the only pair I wore all weekend. There’s just something about these denim shorts. They’ve got the perfect amount of distressing for my taste, and they’ve got some stretch in them which makes them very comfy. For size reference, I have a pair in both 27 and 28. I’m wearing the 27s here. I wore the 28s the rest of the weekend, but when comparing the pictures, I’ve decided I like the look of the 27s on me better, even though the 28s are more comfy. Haha!
This is the exact type of outfit you’ll find Carter in 95% of the time, travel day or not. The kid is ALL ABOUT COMFORT. In fact, if you’ve been reading here for awhile, you might remember that when he was little we used to call him Captain Cozy.
Under Armour is his brand of choice right now for shirts and shorts. Concerning his shoes, he actually prefers his old Nike slides to his new Adidas slides as far as comfort level goes, but he likes the look of the Adidas slides more.
Carter’s outfit: Under Armour tee / Under Armour shorts / Adidas slides
my outfit: tee (similar henley tee with better stock)/ sunglasses / demi stud earrings / necklace / denim shorts / flip flops
Like I said, I’ll show you more of the property and what we did next week, but today is all about the outfits.
eyelet knit top / sunglasses / pink shell earrings / necklace / denim shorts / crochet tote bag / flip flops
This eyelet knit top has pretty eyelet embroidery and subtle flutter sleeves. I love this soft pink, but it also comes in a soft blue as well as classic black and white. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I needed the room in the bust plus the little bit of extra length that the medium provided.

Okay, so no contest here, this striped cover up was my favorite thing I wore the entire trip. I’m wearing the “midnight” (it comes in a black and white stripe too), and I love the nautical vibes of the vibrant blue and bright white stripes. With July 4th right around the corner, it would be perfect for a pool party or backyard barbecue.
It’s super soft and lightweight, and I happen to love the short fit. However, if you’re tall, this might not be the cover up for you. I’m 5’4″ (with long legs for my height, but no torso) and you can see that it’s quite short on me. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
Now, if you’re too tall to wear it as a cover up, consider pairing it as a tunic with denim shorts or white jeans!
striped cover up / striped bag / sunglasses / demi stud earrings / necklace / flip flops
This striped bag is made of a sturdy cotton canvas and it’s a great price at only $34. You can carry it by the small handle, but there’s a cross body option as well. I obviously used it as pool bag on this day, but it’s definitely appropriate (probably more appropriate actually) to wear with regular clothes as well.
The boys had been fishing that morning, and that’s them rolling up in the boat behind me.

This boy loves fishing.

I’ve talked about this countless times, but these flip flops are my GO TO sandals all summer long, especially when at the pool or the beach. They are flexible, they have a cushioned foot bed, they are waterproof, and they wash off easily. They are truly PERFECT for the pool and beach. I’m regularly a size 6 1/2, and I prefer the fit of the 37s, so I would recommend sizing up. If you don’t have a pair of these Havianas flip flops, you should really consider adding them to your closet.
There’s a story behind this picture…. I told Carter to look at me and smile, and he said “I really don’t like the pics where we are gazing into each other’s eyes.” I started cracking up. #noted

The sun was extra hot and bright the day we were at the beach, so I just left my cover up on most of the time. It protected my arms and shoulders from the sun (it’s always my shoulders that are most likely to get burned), and it kept me cool!
Check out these cute bags I picked up. They come in a set of 3, and they are so useful! They lay nice and flat which makes them great for travel, but they also have an expandable bottom so you know you can fit all the things.
I found that the small one was the perfect size for my phone and some cash. I used the other two to hold all of my sunscreen products, an extra pair of sunglasses, and even a water bottle.
Besides being super functional they are also super cute. I fell in love with this striped set, but they also come in varying solids and a leopard set as well.
Unseen Sunscreen / Coola SPF 30 / Supergoop body mousse
I went to the mall the day before we headed to Galveston, and I grabbed these swim trunks on my way out the door for Carter. They quickly became his very favorite trunks he’s ever owned. He hates the underwear shaped lining in most boy’s swimsuits, and he actually has me cut the liner out. But these are lined with a super soft fine mesh lining that goes the entire length of the shorts. He’s a huge fan and says they are very comfy. Captain Cozy strikes again.
He also really likes the Supergoop body mousse. It’s super lightweight and it’s not greasy at all. We found that it’s easy to apply and absorbs quickly, so active kids can get back to being active. We’ve been using it for a couple of years now.

Here’s the arsenal of SPF products I brought with us…
Y’all know I’ve been wearing Supergoop for years, but I recently started using Coola too after borrowing a friend’s at the lake. I love that it sprays on very evenly via a really light mist. Coola has an array of products to choose from, and I just ordered the Coola lip oil for myself. Two summers ago I got a bad sunburn on my lips after a day at the beach, and they swelled up to almost twice their normal size. #itwasbad #realbad
I NEVER go without lip sunscreen now, but I really didn’t like the Supergoop lip product that I brought on this trip. It did it’s job protecting my lips, but it tasted awful. From what I’ve read in reviews, I’m going to love the Coola lip oil.
Supergoop body mousse / Coola SPF 30 / Unseen Sunscreen / Glow Stick not currently available / Supergoop Mineral Powder Sunscreen
But the real star of the SPF show for me this trip was the Unseen Sunscreen. IT’S AMAZING. I’d never used it before, and after last weekend, I can tell you that I’m a customer FOR LIFE. It’s weightless, invisible, scent free, and gives incredible coverage and protection for your face.
When I know I’m going to be in the sun for a prolonged period of time, y’all know I use the Supergoop Glow Screen as my “foundation”. Heck, I often use it on days that I’m not going to be in the sun, just because I like the color and level of coverage it gives! But when I’m going to be in the sun, I wear it for sure because of the sun protection it gives as well.
I’m EXTRA PROTECTIVE when it comes to protecting my face from the sun (dark spots are the main skin issue I deal with), so I double up with the Glow Screen and the Unseen Sunscreen for outdoor days. The directions for the Unseen Sunscreen are to use it as a makeup primer. However, I used it differently on this trip. I applied the Glow Screen in the morning, just as I would if I was just applying makeup for the day (but with the added SPF 40 benefit). Then, I used the Unseen Sunscreen throughout the day to reapply additional coverage as needed. This stuff is incredible. It’s velvety in texture and it totally just glides on your skin, even over your makeup.
My skin absorbs the Unseen Sunscreen very quickly (like IMMEDIATELY!) and there is NO TRACE of it. It’s not oily or greasy, it gives a matte finish, and it doesn’t leave any white residue behind either. Also, from reading reviews, it seems it’s awesome for people with super sensitive skin. I’m telling you, the product is absolutely incredible.
Yep, it’s a new day…but I’m still wearing my favorite denim shorts. I just can’t quit them.
square neck pin tuck top / sunglasses / paracord earrings / necklace / denim shorts / crochet tote bag / bracelet set / cognac sandals
square neck pin tuck top / sunglasses / paracord earrings / necklace / denim shorts / crochet tote bag / bracelet set / cognac sandals
This square neck top is adorable. It’s made of crinkle cotton, and it has so many cute details including the square neck, the pin tuck pleats, and the flutter sleeves. I also love the pink, rust, and cream windowpane pattern. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

Kendra Scott’s newest line includes these paracord earrings, and I love how bright, colorful, and unique they are. I’m wearing the “gold coral mix”, but they also come in a “gold mint mix”. There’s a matching bracelet too.
And if you come around here often, you know that I wear this sweet little necklace just about every day.

I love how this bracelet set comes in a set of 3 and features 2 toned metallic discs. I love mixing metals, but for those of you that are hesitant to do it, this set makes it easy! My wrists are definitely on the small side, but if you have really tiny wrists, I do think this set will be too large for you.
square neck pin tuck top /denim shorts / crochet tote bag / bracelet set
This beaded crochet tote bag is so unique! It’s hand crocheted and the colorful wooden beads are so much fun. I’ve found that it really ups the cute factor of most of my summer outfits.
These cognac sandals are the ones I added to my closet last year. I tried to find a new pair this year, but I ended up taking them all back and I stuck with these. They are comfy, they stay on my feet when walking, and they can easily be dressed up or down. True to size for me.

All right, I told you it was a short trip, so I’ve got just one more outfit for you today.
petal sleeve top (plus size top HERE) / sunglasses / necklace / denim shorts / crochet tote bag / bracelet / cognac sandals
This petal sleeve top is absolutely made for summer. The fabric is very lightweight, and I would describe it as easy and breezy. It’s not see thru, but you will definitely need to wear a nude bra because it’s so lightweight that it could be considered a bit sheer. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. You can also find it in plus size size HERE.
The site talks about how the elasticized neckline will also allow you to wear it off the shoulder! If you do, you are going to need the best strapless bra in the whole world for sure. It stays put all day, and you will never find yourself needing to tug on it.

The petal sleeves are so feminine and pretty. The top comes in a red option too, but I was really drawn to this soft blue.

I wore this to dinner on our last night, and I was so happy to have on such a light and breezy top. IT WAS HOT, y’all. This blouse kept me as cool as possible.

So that’s it! I told you, it was a quick trip. If you’ve got a beach vacation coming up, I hope you got some outfit inspiration for your casual days. And seriously, I cannot recommend all the different sunscreens I highlighted enough. The Glow Screen and the Unseen Sunscreen have been game changers for me, and I think they will be for you too!
A huge THANK YOU to Nordstrom and ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post!

Oh my goodness!
You were at Tiki Island! LOVE IT THERE!! Some friends of ours live there and we were there all last summer basically since we couldn’t do much else due to COVID. Best area, best people, fun times!! Thankfully Waco isn’t to far of a drive. 🙂
Also, I bought the denim shorts after seeing how much you loved them and I too have them in 2 sizes. Absolute favorites as well. I practically live in them also.
If you don’t have they are a must, if this is your style!
Sheaffer says
Hey, Angie! We weren’t at Tiki Island, but we still loved it! We were just southwest of Jamaica Beach, on the bay side. So happy you love the shorts!!! xoxo

I grew up in Dallas but live in Galveston now and can’t wait to see what all you did on your trip here. I’m trying to remember what the water was like last weekend – it changes all the time! We get rough surf and the water can be chocolate milk colored, but when the wind shifts it gets clear and blue/green, believe it or not. We absolutely love living here! Hope you enjoyed your getaway.
Sheaffer says
Hey, Melissa! We loved our house so much, we actually spent most of our time there! We did go out the last night and I had the best redfish of my life! 😉 xoxo
Christen says
Sensitive and pale skin person here to report that the Unseen Sunscreen is the GOAT. I wear it everyday as my sunscreen, and it’s a great primer if I’m going to wear makeup too. I have converted several friends to it and everyone thanks me. I liken the finish to Smashbox primers but not as drying.
If any other over-40 ladies are worried about the shimmer, I like the Glow Screen mixed with some moisturizer for a little glow. You still get some coverage, sunscreen, and a hint of color without the 90s body glitter flashbacks.
Ooh I want to try the Coola lip oil now!
Sheaffer says
Christen, I could believe how much I loved the Unseen Sunscreen. Like how in the world can I love a sunscreen THAT MUCH? I don’t know, but I do. Thanks for the tips! xoxo
