So y’all know that I’m normally a jeans girl. Still, many occasions call for a dress. And let’s be real, often times a dress is just easier to throw on (see Monday’s post for one of the easiest outfits ever!). Couple that with the fact that I get lots of requests from you ladies for dresses, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work with Nordstrom on a 2 part dress series. And now that it’s April (how in the world did that happen?!?), I knew it was time to start highlighting some dresses! Shower season, wedding season, and graduation season are creeping up on us, so let’s be prepared!
Today I’m going to share a casual dress with you. A dress you could throw on with sandals and a denim jacket to run around town to do errands (or an impromptu lunch with your hubby! yay!)….but you could also pair it with wedges or some heeled strappy sandals for a girl’s night out or a date night.
The material of this particular dress is super soft jersey (which I love!), but my favorite part about this dress is the hem. I often have trouble with maxi dresses because they overwhelm my almost 5’4″ frame, but this one doesn’t at all! The overall fit is slimming, I LOVE that it’s a tank (I much prefer a tank to strapless or spaghetti straps), and the high-low hem is perfect for me (and I suspect it will be for many of you as well)!
Before you see me in the dress , I want you to see it on the model so you can get a really good idea of what the dress is like when worn on it’s own. Pay special attention to how the hem will show off your shoes! (It’s shorter on the model than it is on me…I’m guessing she’s probably taller than almost 5’4″.) 😉 And at $68, it’s a great price point! And WHOAH! The orchid and yellow just went 40% OFF! That’s a CRAZY good deal!
Chris and I were able to sneak away for a lunch alone, and I had him snap some pics! Such an easy and comfy outfit to throw on to wear around town! Size References: I’m wearing a small in the dress (true to size), a small in the jacket (the small is fitted, but I wanted it that way!), and the wedges are true to size as well.

And stumbling upon this sign made my day.
I mean, AGREED.
And Amen.
When proof-reading my post yesterday before pressing “schedule”, I noticed that the black dress was already selling out. Fingers crossed for a quick re-stock, but in the meantime, if you are really wanting to pull the trigger on a black maxi, here are some great options!
And for those of you that like the inside pics, here you go!

If you want something more than black, look at all of the colors the dress comes in!!!! HOW FUN would this be on a beach vacation! And I’m telling you, you could throw it on over your swimsuit with some flip flops…or you could put on heels and fancy jewelry and wear it out to dinner! Just click on your favorite color!
Another option…..one of the brightly colored dresses would be sooo cute with the white denim jacket or cardigan….and maybe the cork wedges!
Here are some other casual dresses I’m loving right now. #throwonandgo #orthrowonwithadenimjacket Click HERE for all of the KUT denim jackets (all in different washes) that I highly recommend.

THIS STRIPED MAXI was one I tried on last year that all of you loved! It was WAY too long for me (and I don’t want to bother getting it taken up), so it went back. Still, I decided to show it because I thought some of you tall girls might be interested in it! (Just fyi: I took this pic after a work out…hence the disheveled look.)

Of check out THIS bright and happy dress, also with the high-low hem! Gorgeous on it’s own, but also cute with a denim jacket or cardi!
And although you don’t need a strapless bra with the first high-low maxi that I featured today, summer dresses and tanks often do require a strapless. If you’ve been reading here for awhile, then you know about THIS bra. It’s the strapless bra of all strapless bras. Here’s my claim: you might even wear it on days that you don’t have to wear a strapless bra. I’M NOT EVEN KIDDING. You will seriously wear it and not even want to rip it off at the end of your event. If you need a strapless, look no further. Click HERE. You won’t believe how this strapless stays put. Click HERE for a version by the same maker for those with a smaller bust. If you have this bra, please leave a comment with your thoughts! If you don’t have a great strapless (and if you don’t have this particular strapless, then you probably don’t)…..make the investment and buy this bra. #yourboobieswillthankyou
Have a wonderful weekend everybody, and a big THANK YOU to Nordstrom for sponsoring this dress post! In Part II we will take a look at some dressier options!

I 100% agree!!! That strapless bra is the best. I’m off to order in black. My girls thank me for the nude every time I wear it. 🙂

Sheaffer! You look so cute in the dresses!! And the fact that the square already had a sign out…was just icing on the cake :). Loved this post!
Narci says
So fun!! You look adorable in that dress!! Also, love that it comes in yellow!! So pretty!!
Lori says
I love the dress! I bought the Loveappella one (on the right) last year and it is VERY flattering! I’m 5’4″ as well and it comes in petite! Win!

I love that high-low black maxi, but I’m a little worried it would be too long on me even with wedges. I’m 5’1″. The wedges are fantastic and comfy as can be.
Chas @ Haute Mommy Blog says
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I’m only 5’2″ so I don’t do maxi dresses, they just don’t look right on me – ever. I’m going to give this one a shot!

You should check out adhesive strapless bras, great for backless or tops that are strappy but show alot of lower back! I recently discovered them and I’m in love! Mine are a silicon nude color and they lift and support while staying on. I wore it on a hot day in Florida to Disney and it felt like I had no bra on all day!
Sheaffer says
Hi Jessica! I tried a bra like that last year, and it did not work on me. I wanted it to sooo badly, but it just didn’t stay up on me. I was soooo sad because it meant I couldn’t get a dress that I really wanted. What brand did you get? xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Tiffany says
I’m 5’9″ and just bought the striped maxi, can’t wait to get it! Thanks for all the cute suggestions!
Christa says
I have that high/low black dress – bought it for a beach resort trip because it was so easy to throw on in the morning to go to breakfast. Thanks for showing me that I should wear it more often – and for showing me how to wear it! What would I do without you?! 🙂 (For size reference, the dress is true to size, but at 5′ 4″, it is almost too long for me – better with wedges.)

You are 100% right on the strapless bra. Before I clicked on your link, I thought to myself “I hope she is talking about the Wacoal Bra from Nordstrom, because after all of these years and trying every single brand under the sun, it is the only one I will ever wear, ever.”
I was so happy that you were talking about the same bra!
Mary says
Hey Sheaffer where are the plus- size options you used to be so good about posting? Curvy girls love us some maxi dresses! : )
Sheaffer says
You’re right Mary! I’ll try to be better about that!!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

I ordered the high-high-low dress after seeing it recently and just received yesterday! It is super cute but was a tad tight so I planned to just send it back, but then today I saw that the navy version is also in sale, and the only size they had was the larger size I needed, so I went ahead and reordered! What a great piece for summer!
I also have to say thanks for the post on sandals…I ordered the TOMS Zoe sandals after seeing them here (I got the all leather version) and OMG. They are the MOST comfortable sandal I’ve ever put on my feet! Now I want them in every color and print!
And I also got the Kate Spade abalone studs…gorgeous! I’m going broke with all these great finds you’ve been showing us!

I’m a DD, has anyone tried this strapless bra that is “well endowed”?
Your crazy cute Sheaffer, thanks for all you do!
Jordan says
Hey K! I am a D and I own this bra. I LOVE it! I used to avoid buying strappy dresses and cute tanks because strapless bras were such an annoyance for me. I have worn this bra with lots of bridesmaid dresses also, and you never have to pull it up! Give it a try, I think you will love it! And if not, Nordstrom is so simple with returns 🙂

Ambrosia is a favorite of mine in downtown McKinney! If I saw you I would be star struck! I saw Erika at Nebraska Furniture Mart and was too star struck to to speak, #newbloggerprobs

Hi Sheaffer! I thought I remembered you posting about the high-low dress in this post, and I’m SO glad I did/googled it! I think I am about to order the dress for a wedding we’re attending in a couple of weeks, in the pink color. Would it have touched to the ground if you weren’t wearing the high wedges? I’m about your height and I won’t be wearing as high wedges (thanks, knee problems!), probably just 1.5″ ones, so I wanted to make sure it won’t be too long and look crazy. Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi Shae! I think you’ll be fine! If I was wearing flat sandals, it probably would have touched the floor….butwith a little wedge you should be good to go! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
