It’s a big day today because I’m naming a new MUST HAVE.
Cue the hysteria and get out your credit cards.
This is a good one people.
A little background first.
A couple of Mondays ago I did a post on leggings,
and it’s one of my TOP 3 FAVORITE posts I’ve ever done.

I basically revealed the formula for what I feels makes a successful leggings outfit.
THE FORMULA INCLUDES 3 IMPORTANT COMPONENTS:
1) BOOTS
(Although there was some discussion on how you can pull off a great leggings outfit with flats,
and I do agree.)
2) LAYERS.
Lots and lots of layers.
3) A GOOD QUALITY PAIR OF LEGGINGS.
(And of course the UNDERSTOOD 4th component that leggings ARE NOT PANTS.)
Ryan Gosling thought that my message was so important that he even stopped by to
weigh in on the matter.
(Let’s just all agree that if Ryan talks, we should listen.)
And just to be clear (because there was some discussion on this too),
leggings can in fact be worn as pants……
AS LONG AS THE CROTCHAL AREA IS ADEQUATELY COVERED.
Let’s just act like “crotchal” is a word.
So…..
I felt it was my civic responsibility to find a “GOOD QUALITY PAIR OF LEGGINGS” to help fulfill the #3 requirement for ladies everywhere. I’m a giver.
Because no matter how good the rest of your outfit is, if the leggings are bad,
then THE WHOLE THING is bad.
I talked about several different pairs of leggings (all with great reviews) on the initial post, but I hadn’t yet decided which pair to get for myself.
I read the reviews carefully and decided on THESE.
The reviewers all LOVED them, and they were under $40, so I went for it.
Well.
They came on Friday.
And now I would like to declare that every day before Friday will now be referred to as BUWWHL.

Here is my review of the leggings that I left on nordstrom.com:
These are by far the best leggings I have ever had on my body. The leggings are a nice OPAQUE black and do not become too thin or sheer when put on. The material doesn’t sag or bunch, and they hug my body perfectly without being too tight. The “ultra wide” waistband puts the leggings into the PERFECT category for me. It hugs my tummy without being constricting and they are SO comfortable. I am 5’4″, a size 4 in pants, and the size SMALL was perfect for me. They were a couple of inches too long, but I plan on only wearing them with boots, so I didn’t mind just folding them up. (And I think this is a good thing for taller ladies!)
The wide waistband is SUCH A NICE touch.

Some reviewers said they run large, but I did not find this to be the case.
I’m a size 4, and the SMALL was perfect on me.
Shay is a 0-2, and the X-SMALL was perfect on her.
We are both 5’4″ish, and they were long on both of us…but that is great for you taller girls. I couldn’t wear mine with flats, but I don’t mind folding them up for my boots! If you’re taller, then I’m guessing you could choose to wear them with flats.

There were some people in the reviews that said that although they wear it almost every night at home that they wouldn’t wear it out. I totally disagree. I think the only reason they wouldn’t wear it out is because they ARE wearing it at home. Several other things that you need to know about the Blardigan:

The arms are fitted and the draping is so SO flattering.
So, even though it’s a roomy piece of clothing, it still shows your shape nicely.

Think about how amazing this would be for your holiday travels. You could wear it on a car or airplane trip, wear it out to dinner, and then lounge around in it at your fam’s house too!

Since there are only two sizes: small/medium and large/x-large….the sizing is very forgiving, which makes it super easy to order it as a gift

very pregnant friend Nikki (gonna pop any day now) tried on mine and it

I have no shame that I was cuddling the blardigan in the middle of the mall. If Andrew would let me, I would throw away my bedspread and just cuddle with that blardigan at night. Considering my current leggings have a hole in the crotch I think I *might* be in need of a new pair. These look awesome with the wide band. I have a pair from Loft that I love except in the waist because it gives me total muffin top. Not good. And I picked up the white style staple shirt on Saturday (and the fringe scarf!) and I totally tried on outfits that night. I live a wild and crazy life!! I have these exact HUE leggings. I bought them last year and I told everybody I know about them. You are right when you say the wide waistband makes all the difference in the world. I even had my crotchal area covered, although, I definitely need to shop for some longer shirts. I wanted to tell your readers that I am a size 16 and the extra large leggings fit really well. OK Shaeffer…..I need your honest opinion here. What about a 50++ age woman….should we really be wearing leggings in public?? I did this the first time around…I think it was the 90's….and not sure if we should be wearing them this time around. I know I must not be the only older reader you have following your blog. Great question! Yes, you can TOTALLY wear leggings, you just need to be extra careful what you pair them with. I would say that the tunic should not only cover the "crotchal area", but it should be a little longer than mid thigh. Don't look for shirts, only look for tunics. Hope this helps!

At what age do you think leggings are not appropriate? I'm not as young as you (not even nearly) but am petite and still want to be stylish. I've gotten some great finds from your blog. It's hard to find style blogs for us more mature ladies! Leggings are so cute and comfortable, but I don't want to look like I'm trying to be too young. Help!

Timely post! I placed a Nordstrom order last week and it came in the mail yesterday. I ordered the must have leggings and the Penny boots. Both are absolutely perfect! The leggings truly are better than any others I have ever tried, and they look awesome with the cognac boots. I can't wait to wear both today! Your fashion picks rock!

Shay's comment makes me laugh 🙂 I can attest to the wonderful Hue leggings and am so glad you named them a must have because really, we all MUST have them. Must. I can already picture it, the long drive across the mountains to the in-laws for Christmas, Hue leggings on, warm and cozy in my blardigan, warming my hands on a egg nog latte in a red cup. Best day ever.

I love your post about the leggings. I have been shopping for the past couple of weeks trying to put together a couple of legging outfits with all the layers However, I am 5'8 and have a long torso, so I am trying to find shirts that cover my "crotchal". It is proving to be a difficult task. Do you have any suggestions on places to find shirts that are long enough to cover. I have found several that are almost there, but not quite. Definitely feel more comfortable with everything covered, as I am sure the rest of the public would be too. 🙂 Thanks for any advice you can give.

I love this post and all the different leggings. I have been trying for the last couple of weeks to put together some legging outfits, but have been struggling to find shirts long enough to cover my "crotchal". I am 5' 7-1/2" and have a long torso, so most of the shirts hit just right about the area. Any suggestions you could give on where to find shirts would be so appreciated.

Thank you for all your fun cute and stylish tips you share!! I've always love love loved clothes. But as a busy mom if two little girls, you know how it goes. Oh and PS: I bought the HUE cano leggings recently and fell in love!!! They are SO fun. Now I think I need the grey ones. I just bought the Zella live in legging in black and they are every bit as wonderful as the reviews say they are!!!!!

Hi Sheaffer! I was so glad to see an "over 50" girl ask a question about the leggings… I am no longer pushing 40, I am dragging it, so I often wonder if I can truly pull off the PRECIOUS ensembles you put together! Maybe you could consider having a "guest model" from time to time…like your Mama, Shay's Mama….somebody's Mama! It might help us middle agers! I am so thankful for your helpful posts! I have three girls, 21, 16 and 14 so your ideas are helping me with Christmas this year!!!
