So every year I always do a HUGE post with my favorite leggings and TONS OF TUNICS! Well, I’ve gotta be honest. I’m having lots of trouble finding tunics I love this year. I’m still trying really hard (I have 3 on their way to me right now, so fingers crossed!), but so far I’ve only found 1 that I really love and think will be universally liked by lots of you ladies.
And here’s the thing. It’s a dress. But it’s a REALLY SHORT dress, and even at 5’4″ there is no way I’d be able to wear it without leggings. But great news! It’s a perfect tunic length for leggings! And more great news, it appears to be fully stocked, and it comes in 5 additional colors/patterns!
I think the v-neck is feminine (and not too low), the bell sleeves are a nice feature (but they aren’t too big or distracting), and the overall fit is really great! I think it’s very flattering! Throw it on with leggings, and you can head out the door, but feel like you are in pajamas. THAT’S A WIN IN MY BOOK. For size reference, I’m wearing a small in both the dress and the leggings. The size chart for the dress says a small is a 3-5 (and I’m not normally a 3-5 in dresses), so I thought I was going to need a medium, but a medium was definitely too big.
bell sleeve shift dress / MUST HAVE leggings / necklace / earrings / similar cognac boots / bracelet / square faced watch
Let’s look at all angles of the dress, because it’s seriously cute from every angle. It’s a bit longer in the back, and look at the keyhole detailing and the pleats! Again…I’m almost 5’4″, and although it’s PLENTY long for leggings, I personally would not wear this dress without leggings. Important info: I put a pic of the dress on facebook last night for a sneak peek, and I did have a reader comment that this is definitely dry clean only. She owns other LUSH items (and washes those), but she washed this one and it shrunk. So, please keep that in mind!
And here, I added a great bag. It’s realllllllly pretty in person. It’s nicer than the bags found in the junior’s section, and to be honest, if I would have found it among the “real bags”, I wouldn’t have thought it looked out of place. The whip-stitching is lovely, and the hardware on it is antique and rustic. I just love the overall look. It’s a great size too. I find many cross body bags to be too small for my liking, but this one is a nice medium size.
They only had grey in the store, I didn’t get to see the sable in person, but it looks gorgeous online! And the storage is great! There is an outside pocket (right under the magnetic/snap closure), there is 1 zippered pocket inside, and then there are two other pockets (without zippers) inside as well that are perfect for keys and a phone!

Now, let’s talk about the leggings for a second. Even though I have them in both grey and black, it’s the grey that I always reach for! Over the years, my black leggings have faded a bit, but not the grey. I’ve had these leggings for 3 years now, and they are still in AMAZING shape! And the ultra wide waistband really is a game changer, ladies. These leggings suck you in, they smooth you out, and the ultra wide waistband won’t roll down on you!!!! All this, and they still manage to be stupid comfortable.
And here’s an accessories close up! The bracelet description says it is “red/gold”, but it’s much more of a wine color. square faced watch / bracelet
And check it out! The exact shift dress I’m wearing in today’s post comes in all of these patterns and colors!
And since I don’t have any other new tunics to talk about (yet!), I thought I would go ahead and highlight a picture from last year with a tunic that is still available! It’s one of our much beloved MUST HAVE (tunic length) shirts! This exact color is no longer available, but there are other great colors. I’m wearing a small in the tunic. If wearing with leggings, I would go with your regular size. If planning on just wearing the top with jeans, I would size down. Also, I dry clean mine, but tons of readers have shared they just wash, dry for a bit, and then hang to dry the rest of the way!

Some other dresses and tunics that have caught my eye: THIS dress from Anthropologie and THIS super soft Lou and Grey tunic from LOFT ! Here are several choices:
And THIS DRESS is now 40% OFF, and I think it would look awesome with leggings! I tried it, and it didn’t work for me, but I’m hoping it will for some of you at this amazing price! With dresses I sometimes have the issue that when I get it big enough to not pull across the chest, then it’s just too big all over….and that was the case with this dress. I wish it would have worked though, because I loved the look of it! So pretty and feminine!
Oh, one more thing. If you follow me on facebook and instagram, you already saw this. THIS PEA COAT is back in stock…and not just in this gorgeous green color, but also in black and camel (I adore the camel). And the oxblood one is 40% OFF! Now remember, size up 2 sizes. That’s right, TWO SIZES. I’m wearing the Large. Look at the collar and the detailing on the sleeves! DARLING!

I have the Lush dress/tunic in the wine color and love it!! I think I will pick up a patterned one today too! I have a question about the leggings. The site says to order down an size because they stretch out. Do you find that to be true, or do you order your regular size? Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Susan! I do not find that they stretch out at all. My regular size small has been perfect! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

That outfit is cute cute! Love that dress/tunic! And I should add that a tunic/leggings outfit is almost like wearing yoga pants but everyone thinks you’re all put together. 😉
Narci says
Love that tunic/dress! I have it in the brown print, and it was darling with white skinny jeans at the beginning of September! I need to grab that blue print also! So cute!

I noticed the other day that old navy has some cute shift dresses this year. I’m 5’9″ so most dresses for me are a tunic. 🙂 I don’t know if that could be an option for you but you might check it out. And I think they are having a 40% sale on some things through today.

I tried that dress on and was bummed by how short it was too…genius to wear it with leggings! You look adorable in both tunic outfits! And that coat is a definite…I have it in two colors and it’s perfection!
NerdGirl says
That is so cute! I’m wondering if it’s long enough to work as a tunic/leggings for us taller ladies – like would it even cover our rumps? If you hiked it up 5, 6 inches would you still be covered? Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi! Hmmmm…I’m not sure. 3 or 4 inches, definitely. Not sure about 5 or 6! Sorry I’m not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
NerdGirl says
Thank you!

I find those leggings particularly long…like in have to fold over long…and I do not have particularly short legs. I just can’t see paying someone to hem them.
Solution– I just wear with boots.

Sheaffer, this old navy tunic is comfy, fun and it covers everything! http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1065637&vid=1&pid=275952032
I am 5’2″ and it covers the front and back appropriately for leggings, but I do wear a tank under it since it is cut up high on the sides 🙂 They also have an almost identical version without the lace on top that I’m eyeing, but the lace top dresses it up a little. As a bonus, it cosy enough that I don’t feel scratchy all day – softness is a MUST for me. I think it fits true to size, too.
Mary Beth Black says
Love all of this! Quick question. Do you think you could fit a small laptop (12″ wide) in the crossbody bag?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Mary Beth! Sorry, but I don’t think it would fit. 🙁 xoxo

Well, if it’s legging/tunic time, then it’s time for you to re-post the rules about leggings. It’s your duty. The world needs to hear it.
Sarah @The Teacher's Wife says
I have you to thank for introducing me to the tunic and leggings look! I know you mentioned the “tunic” actually being a dress, but I almost always have to buy short dressed to wear as tunics b/c of my height. I’m 5’11” and a normal tunic usually doesn’t cover my rear – and I know how you feel about that! 🙂
Lisa says
The grey leggings are the best. I agree that my black have faded a little but not the grey. I even have a pair with the tags still on for a back up because I can’t stand the thought of not having a pair! Great find and a definite “must have”!
Megan says
As always, such a cute outfit! Do you think your tunic/dress would look ok with black or brown leggings? Or is this one you really need the gray for?
Kimberly says
Can you recommend any leggings that can be worn with flats? I know you have said that you wear your leggings with boots and that’s why you can just roll them up, but I do like to wear leggings with flats and it’s so hard to find any that aren’t too long…
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kimberly! I’ve heard people say that they have leggings from The Loft that can be worn with flats! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Sarah says
Love that bag! And I’m forever grateful to you for introducing me to Hue leggings!
Megan | Honey We're Home says
I might be the only person short enough to wear that dress as an actual dress! Great idea to add leggings and wear it as a tunic though- so many colors and patterns! I need to try grey leggings- I only have black and brown.
Sheaffer says
Megan – I bet it’s DARLING on you as a dress!!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
