Today we’ve got another Style it Again, Sheaffer post! I started this series a couple of months ago, and it’s been a big hit with y’all! Everybody really likes seeing one piece in multiple outfits. After all, that’s how we all dress. We wear things again and again. And again. #andthenagain
And then we throw them over the chair and wear them yet again. Or maybe that’s just me. 😉
If you missed them the first time, you need to go check out the other Style It Again posts!
Today I’m going to show 3 different tops…and I’m going to show you 2 ways to style each of the 3 tops. When I was planning these outfits, I made flat lays for all of them…so first you are going to see the flat lays…then you are going to see me in the outfits that I planned. I’m mainly just changing up the footwear and bags, so nothing ground breaking here…but hopefully the outfits will inspire you to look at your outfits in different ways as well. If you’re like me, you sometimes wear certain pieces the same way every single time you wear them. Next time, switch it up a bit, even if it’s just with the shoes and accessories.
I partnered up with Nordstrom to bring you all of today’s looks!
The first two looks are with a classic plaid shirt. The look on the left is casual with booties and a leather cross body bag. The look on the right is all sorts of sassy with black over the knee boots (that pack some SERIOUS SASS) and a leopard clutch. #meow
I have a deep love for plaid button ups, but I don’t wear button ups very often because I always have a problem with these types of shirts pulling at the chest. And a button that is stressed is NOT a good look. 🙂
Well, I sized up to an 8 in this shirt, and that definitely helped matters. If you are really worried, you can always size up 2 sizes in the shirt. In fact, I think I might even be more comfortable in the 10. I know most people size up 1 size in J Crew button ups anyway (even those that don’t have a big chest), so if you have a big chest 2 sizes might be necessary.
I kicked it up a notch by tying the shirt at my waist for fun, but it would be just as cute (and probably more “me”) with a half tuck and my favorite leopard belt. (PSA, if you don’t have the leopard belt, fix that today! I find it is often just the touch that so many of my outfits need!) More about the jeans later in the post….
And y’all. My $12 necklace? SO GOOD.

The next set of looks are with a simple grey pullover. The look on the left is SUPER casual with minimal jewelry and sneakers. The look on the right is dressed up just a bit with the booties and bag.
This super casual look is definitely my favorite of the two. Maybe because I’m wearing my favorite new sneakers! (The grey sneakers are just about out of stock, but they did just add a black that’s a great look too.)
As far as the color of the pullover goes, when I took the pictures of the above flat lays, the sun was streaming through the windows, so the grey looks very light in the flat lays. However, I would say that the color is actually a dark grey, and the pictures below are a much truer representation.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the top, so I didn’t size down. It’s over-sized and slouchy (but not sloppy), which is just how I wanted it!

So here’s what you need to know about the jeans. I love the fit. LOVE THE FIT. They are my first pair of high waisted jeans, and I’ve gotta say, I’m a big fan. They are very stretchy, but they are thick, so they will hold their shape. When I was taking pictures of them, I was disappointed that one of the knees was so blown out. I mean, I know that there are lots of jeans out there right now with basically completely open knees, but I don’t love the look. Well, great news! I hopped online and looked to see if they were supposed to be like this, and they’re not!! They are definitely heavily distressed on both knees, but if you click HERE, you can see that the rip below the knee isn’t there in the online picture.
Now, am I worried that the knee might do this after I wear them? Yes. I am a bit worried. However, I’m loving the jeans so much that I’m willing to take the chance! So, I immediately hopped online and ordered them again. Fingers crossed my new pair don’t have the additional rip!
UPDATE; So….after I posted the above picture on facebook last night, it appears based on 2 other reviewers thoughts that the jeans all come with the weird slit under one of the knees. DANGIT! (For some reason the reviews weren’t showing up for me at first.) I hate that because I absolutely LOVE the fit. I might keep them anyway (because the other parts of the jeans are so great), but I’m just not sure.
ANOTHER UPDATED ADDED 12 p.m. Monday: I got a comment from a reader that said the following: Take the jeans to Nordstrom and have alterations put a patch” behind the rip. I did that with the famous AG jeans from 2 years ago and I love the look. Their alteration dept can do some amazing things. THAT’S FREAKING, GENIUS!!! THANK YOU STEF!
I have a couple of high waisted options in my cart to try for us, so I will keep you posted after I receive them.
Here is another affordable high waisted option for you….and these aren’t distressed!
And here’s a high rise toothpick pair that have great reviews…

These last 2 outfits are styled around a classic cable knit sweater, but one that’s updated a bit with buttons down the side. Again, a bit more casual on the left, and a bit dressier on the right.
This is a totally simple and classic look that I love. I sized up to a medium in the sweater (which I often do in J. Crew) because I wanted the little bit of additional length. It is a wider cut, but I didn’t mind that!
And ladies, the bag just gets better and better with each passing day. And it’s ON SALE!

In the second look I just styled it with black instead of brown. I feel like black accessories always dress an outfit up a bit. And the studded bag? I love the edge it gives to the outfit!

Erika Slaughter says
I’m loving that sassy knot you tied in the plaid! Just that gives it an entirely different look and it’s so CUTE!
Jill says
You look supercute in all of your outfits, but to really make the two looks more different, maybe add a vest or scarf or different color pants?
Sheaffer says
I completely agree, Jill! Today I was just going for small changes. In my Style It Again posts, I typically switch things up way more! xoxo, Sheaffer
Monica says
I’m kinda over the distressed jeans (but that’s just me) and going for colored jeans these days. Anyhow, I still LOVE your blog – give me great ideas and who ever would have thought that my leopard belt would be my go to ALL. THE. TIME. Thank you!
Amanda says
Another high waisted suggestion! The Old Navy Rockstar High Waisted Jeans are so comfortable and I love how they keep you sucked in!
Jenny Null says
The original picture on Nordstrom’s does not show the slit on the knee, but if you go to the 6th picture they have posted it does show the slit. Weird!!

DARLING outfits!! Obsessed with that plaid…J.Crew makes the best plaids and button shirts ever. Also, I need that hoodie pullover STAT!
Laura Seifert says
What size did you buy in the jeans. I’m between 26 and 27, are these TTS? Thanks!
Sheaffer says
They are true to size, Laura! I got my regular size 27…..so you might want to go with the 26? Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kim In Minnesota says
Pssst… a little Hollywood tape will fix that button pull and no one will be the wiser. One package lasts a long time. I cut the strip a bit smaller and use it between the button that pulls and the next one down. Works like a charm and I’m much more confident in button-downs!
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the tip, Kim!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kathi Powell says
Love your blog!! I really like the color of your lipstick in the pictures with the cable knit sweater. Could you share the brand and color?
Thanks
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kathi! It’s “fashion icon” by Lacome. Not sure which gloss I’m wearing because I always mix it up! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Karen Lynn Joslin says
Sheaffer, I know you aren’t a fan of the larger rip, but for the record, you look ADORABLE with the rip! LOVE.
Sheaffer says
That’s so sweet! Thanks, Karen! I had two different people tell me on facebook that they weren’t flattering at all, so thank you for leaving a sweet comment!!!! 🙂
