Spring and Summer Tops: Part I

Y’all.  It’s May.  HOW IN THE WORLD IS IT MAY.

That means our children are home for summer in UNDER 30 days!  WHOAH.  I know that scares some of you, but with just one 8 year old boy in the house, we are pumped!  Summer, YOU CAN BRING IT.  We’re officially ready for ya.  We especially love the late nights and late mornings around here (Carter will go to bed around 11:00 and wake up at like 9:30)!  It’s GLORIOUS! We’re also excited for tons of play dates with our friends, several trips to the ranch,  and a trip to Florida!

With the anticipation of summer and all the warmer weather around here, I’ve been having lots of fun adding new spring and summer items to my closet.  I don’t remember loving all the spring and summer items this much last year, but this year I’m having lots of luck!  So when Nordstrom reached out to see if I wanted to talk about seasonal clothing, I knew just the items I wanted to talk about.

Top #1:  Bow Back Poplin Top

This bow back poplin top caught my eye online, but before it arrived I had convinced myself I probably wouldn’t like it (because it would probably be too tight in the chest).  WELL.  I was wrong.  I LOVE IT.  The pleated detail, the bow in the back, the cuff on the sleeves…it’s all good.  Now, the fabric doesn’t have a lot of give to it (which would normally annoy me), but it didn’t in this top!

Now here’s the deal with the pom pom necklace.  I’ll give you the bad news fast.  It’s on backorder at Nordstrom.  The good news is that it’s FABULOUS, and even though you won’t get it until June, you will still get it.  I wore it last week to do several errands, and I got 3 compliments on it just when I was in Anthropologie!  If you can’t wait, there is a similar one HERE.

Size References:  I’m wearing a small in this top, which is true to size for me.  If you are concerned about the tightness across the bust and shoulders, you might consider sizing up.  I’m wearing it here with my denim jeans, but it will also be darling with white jeans and denim shorts!!!

These jeans are EVERYTHING.  I would say that 90% of the e-mails I’ve received this past month have been about these jeans.  Y’all are just as obsessed as I am.  You all love them so much, you had to e-mail me and let me know, which I of course LOVED.  They are pajama soft and cozy as can be…but they also hug you in all the right places and will make you look and feel great.  I went with my regular size 27, but if you are often between sizes, I would suggest sizing down.

I’m telling you. GET. THESE. JEANS.  The frayed hem, the ankle length, the light wash, and the stretchy denim make them perfect summer jeans.  And you can click HERE for pair from the same maker that is on sale.  They aren’t exactly the same fit…the ones that I already own are called “Carly” and the ones on sale are called “Sarah”, but they look pretty similar to me!

Top #2:  Peplum Tees

You first saw this peplum tee last week with my new blush jeans.  Well, I’ve worn it lots since then.  And I ended up purchasing it in blue as well.  Sadly, the top is already sold out in regular sizes in most of the colors, although there seems to be a good selection in petite sizing (scroll down when looking at sizes). I’m also keeping my fingers crossed for a full restock and promise to let you know the second I see one!

In addition to CZ studs, I also really enjoy wearing smaller studs in the summer months when I want to keep an outfit simple, when I have on a really bold statement necklace, or when I’m heading to the pool.  I of course love the mini glitter studs, but the abalone studs are some of my favorites.  They go with pretty much everything.

Back to the  top…remember how cute it was with my blush jeans?!? These jeans are from the same maker of the frayed hem ankle jeans I talked about up above, and they are the same awesome fit!  Some of you have already received these, and you are giving them rave reviews as well!

And because the above peplum tee might be difficult to find in your size right now, I have another awesome peplum option for you. The peplum is a little bit smaller on this one and starts a little bit lower, but I like this one just as much!  And it comes in two other stripes and 4 solids!  I’m pretty much guaranteeing that once you get one, you’ll most likely end up picking up a 2nd one.  #andmaybeevenathird It could possibly become your favorite summer tee!  It can be dressed up with great jewelry and wedges, but it could just as easily be worn with denim shorts and sneakers.  It’s a really great top!

Sadly, my sandals are now sold out, but THESE are amazing.   I actually think I like the look of them even a bit more than my own, and they come in 5 additional colors. They also have the same padded foot bed as mine, so I imagine they are going to be just as comfy.  A couple of the reviewers suggest sizing up 1/2 a size, and I sized up a 1/2 size in my others, so it’s definitely something to take into consideration.  And listen ladies, if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, Mr. Edelman knows what he’s doing when making a comfortable and good lookin’ shoe.  Click HERE for all Sam Edelman sandals (THESE are a fan favorite and pretty much have a cult following and THESE look like the perfect neutral everyday slip on with some height).  Click HERE for the sandals below.

Top #3:  Embellished Top

This summer you definitely need an embellished top of some sort…lace or embroidery should be perfect, just something to make it special!

This top definitely has that special feeling, but it even looks great with just denim shorts!  You can see my bra strap through the lace (wearing my absolute favorite bra, of course)….however, since it’s nude, I felt like it looked totally okay (and was not very noticeable at all).  The fringe detailing is found both on the bottom of the tee and at the bottom of the sleeves.  It’s a great look and is definitely worthy of the “special” label.

THIS one just popped up on the site yesterday.  I MEAN.  Look how crisp and cute it is with white jeans!

And because so many of the tops out there right now are cold shoulder, one shoulder (DANG THESE ARE CUTE!!!), or off the shoulder…let us not forget that this strapless bra is the best strapless bra ever.  I’m basically making it my personal mission for all boobies to at least try it.
